Fast, Good price but 63dB fans while gaming

This Alienware 17R4 has all the ports you want, lots of features like eye tracking and lighting and it looks nice not flashy compared to other brands. oh i play on ultra settings:)
Now my only problem with gaming laptops nowadays is they make them too thin and thats when it gets bad, the fans have to work harder and they all sound like mini vaccum. unfortunately this one at 63dB while gaming is too much for me.

Graphics Card
It has two Graphics Card in the system.
Intel(R) HD Graphics 530
Nvidia Geforce GTX 1070(8G)
It switching depending on what your doing. Gaming it goes to the Nvidia, when you doing web browsing and office stuff it goes to the INtel.
Battery
It last me about 5:40 hours when I'm browsing the web and watching movies. It last me about 2:00 hours when I'm doing gaming but that isn't a surprise since it is a gaming laptop.
Gaming
I play ultra high setting in
World of Warcraft, Heroes of the Storm, APB Reloaded, and I stream some games from my Xbox to it.
NO LAG LAPTOP!
I haven't experience lag on this system. So far Ultra runs smooth.
CONS
Im a big guy and my finger gets oily and greasy. It does stain the laptop since it a black coat finish and it picks the oil on it quickly. Once every week I clean the laptop with isopropyl alcohol and clean the spots even on the keyboard. Just pour some on a paper towel and wipe it off. It its left there for a long time with the heat of the laptop it will leave a mark. I show some pictures to show what i mean.

This laptop is a great purchase. I have had no regrets since buying this laptop. Has a crystal clear display that looks great, and is very fast. Great frame rate on all games I've played so far. If I was to buy again, I would look for a slightly larger storage drive as it seems to fill up fast. Only seems to last about 2 hours on battery, but I expect this. Most gaming laptops are power hogs. I'm used to it.

This is an excellent computer. Huge upgrade over my last gaming computer. The graphics card will run every game I own on max settings. Very fast and reliable. Only cons is no cd/dvd burner which doesn't really bother me that much since I didn't use my last one much. Burners will be obsolete in 5 years anyway. Overall great purchase.

It's great experience to play games on it. The 17 inches screen looks great, and the tobii eye tracking system is convenient. The lights in keyboard is fantastic,it can set lights in 11 different places. 1070 graphic card is perfect to run any games.

I like the new Alienware I just purchased. I don't understand why it has such a small SSD with only 128 GB C drive. It is somewhat of a pain having to save everything to the 980 GB SSD D drive I had installed. Before even taking this computer home I had the standard 1TB HD replaced. Alienwares are supposed to be the best of the best. Please don't cheap out and offer pcs with such small hard drives. I would have also liked to replace the 16 GB of RAM but they didn't sell that type of RAM at Best Buy. Other than that it is a great computer.

This is by far a great laptop with all the works for the right price. (Speed/processor/memory/size). Love the Tobii eye tracking feature for gaming, as well as the eye scan feature for logging in. The Alienware FX lighting is another nice feature as well.

I got a great deal on this. For reference, I paid about $1200. For that, I got an amazing deal. It is obviously not the most portable thing in the world and looks absolutely ridiculous. I definitely won't be using the portable aspect of it outside of major travel. I still have my daily commute laptop for work/class.
That said, I feel fairly future proof for the next several years. By the time this thing starts having issues running games, I can buy the amp and throw in a new graphics card.
The screen is amazing for a TN panel. That said, I have it plugged in to a 4K TV with HDR and it looks spectacular.

This thing is a beast. I got it to play games on my HTC Vive and there have been ZERO issues and we've logged about 60 hours of game time already. One thing to be aware of is that the hard drive is partitioned - so if you're using it for Steam games be sure to change the install directory to D:// or your hard drive will fill up too fast - we've had that issue, but it was me not thinking, not a problem with the computer. Hopefully that'll help someone else thinking of this for their VR set up.

I purchased this Alienware laptop for my son this past Christmas. He absolutely loves it. All video games run without lag and the sound is fantastic. I would definitely recommend the large screen size. The laptop is pretty heavy but that is expected from such a powerful machine. IMPORTANT: Buy from Best Buy, not directly from Dell. I tried buying directly from the Dell website and due to issues on their side I was still waiting for the laptop 4 weeks later. Dell's customer service is horrible, worst experience ever. I cancelled my order and bought the laptop from Best Buy instead.

It gets a 4 stars because it heats up and is noisy, plus the battery needs to be charged more often than I like, otherwise its performance is great for gaming.

This laptop has played everything I've thrown at it without hesitation. (most of which on ultra settings) Overwatch on Ultra @ 150% of normal texter resolution runs at well over 100fps. Would recommend for sure.

I'm very happy with the power of this laptop, and so far it's been able to play every game I've thrown at it, set to the highest possible graphics. It also has the best monitor I've ever had on a Windows machine.
The only complaint is that it's too big to fit in any of my laptop backpacks for travel (including the 17" one), and is on the heavy side even if I do find a big enough bag. I travel on a regular basis, so this is a problem.
Still, I'm happy with my investment, even if it's more of a mobile desktop than I'd hoped.

This is a fast laptop but it's too heavy, hot, and loud to sit on top your lap. It'd be best used as a portable desktop with additional screens.

Great laptop for a gaming desktop replacement. Runs cool, looks nice, and not that heavy after you get used to the weight(about 8lbs).I choose this brand over the others due to build design and quality. The case felt more sturdy and the components were higher grade the others on display. Plus there is one bonus I found out after purchase is the camera unlock feature, saves from having to use a password to unlock.

This is without a doubt a very powerful laptop. Desktop performance in a laptop. It has handled everything i have given it with ease. The build quality is top notch and strong. The only setback is the light bleed from the screen. The first unit I received was very bad. I took it back and swapped it out within 10 minutes (great customer care). The current unit has less light bleed at the screen edges but it is still prevailant with dark images. Disappointing that such an expensive and powerful laptop would have an issue like this.

From a person that has owned every brand of gaming laptop (except for MSI... sorry, but the design is not very appealing for my taste), I have to say that this is an outstanding machine.
For those just jumping on the market, the first thing to note is that this new generation of laptops do not have a mobile version of the GPU, they have (for the most part) the same technology an power of thier desktop counterparts. Yes... that also means that the heatsink is big and protruding in the back making it a large and heavy machine, but oh well some of us may consider that sexy on a machine if it is done with class, like it is in this case.
Now, down to more specifics for those more experienced readers. Could it use a 120Hz panel... definitely, but the machine does well in its own right and for those of us that enjoy playing on 27" 144hz 3D panel, this machine can handle delivering 140+ FPS without much trouble via miniDisplayport. The Tobii Eye tracking technology in this machine is gimmicky at best, so I will not go into any details (not full integration and not even advertised in the specs).
Back to the important things, the machine comes with a 128GB M.2 SSD with ok read speeds and weak write speeds, and with only 128GB it is just a value SSD that pushes the machine to a good performance level for the price. I honestly thought I would be ok installing the games in the 1TB HDD but I guess I had forgotten how slow HDD are... this is the one area where you will likely want an upgrade... but wait... good news! This machine has 3 M.2 slots! One is an M.2 2242, and two M.2 2280! Although the 2242 is almost useless because of the lack of variety from manufacturers in this form factor, the other two 2280 are a phenomenal feature as this machine will take NVMe PCIe 3.0 x4 which will allow you to get a drive that performs up to 6-7 times faster than a high en SSD that is limited to the SATA III interface. Yes, I am now sporting a 500GB Samsung 960 EVO that will read 6 times faster than any SATA III SSD that you throw in there (you can get the 960 Pro if you want ;) ). With this in mind, although the machine will run ok out of the box I will strongly suggest taking advantage of its great upgradability.
Back to the games... VR whoooa this is where this machine shines! it will run every Oculus experience in high detail while maintaining a solid FPS rate to match the high refresh rate of the rift (90Hz). Reading the reviews about the USB connectivity, yes it is weird that a computer like this will not even allow you to connect your Rift + touch setup out of the box (no, you can not keep daisychaining USB hubs as the latency will impact the ability of the sensors to quickly respond to positional changes), but although it would have been nice to see more USB ports in the machine, the truth is that it does have 4 ports, but 2 of them are USB type-C (one is also Thunderbolt), and therefore your machine is better equipped to run future peripherals; if you want to run the "old" usb ports, you can get type-c to usb female adapter and there you go, you full rift setup is running!
Opening the machine for upgrades should be quicker for a gaming rig like this (who has time to remove 7 screws when you can be playing in VR!); and the last upgrade would be to get 32GB ram when you feel like you need them or for bragging rights.
Finally, I may have forgotten to mention... this beast gorgeous!
