Laptop is great. No problems running AAA games at near max settings. Sound issue sometimes occurs when going from headphones to laptop speakers with muted sound and only coming from one side of the speaker. Restart fixes the problem.

This computer runs very fast with all kinds of games. It has many really cool features. Absolutely no lag issues. This is the kind of computer that I can keep for many years to come without a need for an upgrade.

Overall, after having used this Laptop for a little over year now. I must say there are some pros and cons to the device. Overall, for someone wanting a mobile workstation at the same time as a durable gaming PC on the side this is an ideal laptop. However please review my listed pros and cons below. Thanks
Pros:
1. 17" 1080p IPS panel is crystal clear, keeps games and other GPU intensive performance at an ideal range since 1440p and 4k resolutions on laptops tend to result in heavily deminished FPS rates and performance drops on your GPU unless your gaming laptop has a 1080 or 1080ti (Or SLI based 1070s +).
2. The CPU in this unit keeps a consistently cool temperature even under heavy workloads and in most cases even being on my lap it still maintains peak performances.
3. Even the newer Alienware models are maintaining this design and cooling performances, if you are looking to the i9 or other heat intensiver laptop solutions I 100% recommend this model laptop for that due to it's heat distribution designs.
CONS:
1. Terrible m.2 SSD at start. I was getting some of the lowest tier SSD performances when I did benchmarks for my SSD that came with this computer. Should you get any Alienware product, immediately download Veeam and do a backup of the OS and buy a Samsung 970 Pro m.2 SSD and do a bare metal restore to it. Alternatively the Samsung Software I believe also does the same trick.
2. Size (not affecting rating with this con). Obviously if you are a mobile person where you need a powerful work laptop to do video rendering or more intensive projects like that you may want to look into spending an additional $500 or so to get the hardware equivalent of a Razer laptop for it's Ultrabook frame and size. The Razer laptops suffer more likely cases of thermal throttling so just bare in mind the Razer you pay for the size and weight reduction however you will suffer performance differences compared to a beefier or bulky style gaming laptop.
3. Lack of a CD Drive (Again not a Rating deduction) I can't say CD drives not being present is a con, but I still would have liked to see something like this since the laptop suffers a severe lack of USB ports, with this lack I was hoping for some means of additional storage or boot options since this USB lacking can really limit your peripheral usage.
4. Battery Life (Comes with the size/type of laptop not deducting Rating)
Battery life in these models of laptop tend to range from 2-3 hours of runtime not to mention in most cases your laptop will disable the GPU and run integrated or run a severely throttled GPU setting. So this lack of GPU performance off the plug makes this more like hauling around a desktop and setting it up where you decide to set down. But I do not find that nearly inconvenient enough an excuse to bash on the device when the performance on power is so amazing for a laptop.
OVERALL:
I honestly must recommend this device, but for anyone looking at a new laptop and you happen upon this old review, please consider what your needs are. If you are a student going to class I would say go with an Alienware, however if you are a mobile worker needing to go from place to place in 15 minute intervals or so. I would have to advise switching your scope of laptop hardware to a Razer ultrabook like frame (Or for apple users a Macbook Pro just beware of their thermal throttling being pretty hefty).
Thanks again for taking your time to read this lengthy review, enjoy your product searchs and best of luck to you in your laptop endeavors.

Got this on clearance for several hundred dollars less than the newest model. The only difference being this has a 6th gen i7 as opposed to the newer 7th gen on the full priced newer models. Very minimal differences between the two for the large price difference! The SSD boots the system up in seconds, and it has plenty of Ram to handle about anything. I was very surprised that the mobile version GTX1070 performs pretty much identical to the desktop version (which I also have). In the past with identical desktop vs. mobile GPU models, the mobile versions usually under-performed compared to the desktop, not so with the 1070-runs ultra settings without even trying with high framerates!

Its been around 2 months since I purchased this laptop. there is no issue at all other than the fun goes crazy sometimes, makes some noise especially when there is a system update.
But when it comes to gaming; I am able to play world of warcraft in the highest graphic setting and there is no problem at all.

This was my 2nd gaming laptop and by far the best so far. This laptop plays all games on ultra with no problem. Yes it is heavy but I knew that going in and don't really notice it anymore.

Really great quality and great performance. If you've ever checked the flex on other gaming laptops most of them have a lot but the Alienware doesn't at all it's super sturdy. The display in my opinion is really good the colors don't seem off and I don't notice any ghosting. The keys on the keyboard have a good feel and travel distance. I know gamers aren't supposed to but I game off the wifi and experience no difficulties or lag compared to it connected through Ethernet I am connected to 5ghz. The Alienware sound center is a good application to tweak sound settings that the Logitech software wouldn't let me. Couple bad things two USB ports I've never had to connect more then two things to the USB ports but other people might run into a problem. Might have to get a USB hub or something. Another thing is portability I honestly don't mind how big it is because that's why I bought it but finding a backpack for this thing was difficult so I needed just buying the Alienware one and it's a cool looking backpack so no loss there. It has an external graphics card connection in the back that only Alienware has and in terms of performance from external graphics it's the best way to connect. Other externals use the thunderbolt 3 connection which go through the USB connection on the motherboard but Alienwares connection connects directly to the PCI lane. The GTX 1070 paired with a 1080p display means ultra to high settings at 60 fps on most games. The only game that I ran high to medium was Mass Effect Andromeda which I have no clue why. Other games run great though and well it runs this beast does throw out some hot air. It has great ventilation for the components but due to the thermal paste application from Alienware it does sometimes peak at 91 degrees for a brief moment when i check performance from intel extreme tuning application. I'm hoping they fixed that now but as far as mine goes I'm not feeling the process to reapply it myself. I'll just underclock it for now. I'm no laptop manufacturer but it'd be nice if they had two separate heat sinks for the CPU and GPU for better performance. Couple other things that come to mind is the lighting I love the strips on the side which can be programmed to different colors and to pulsate etc. The mouse pad keyboard and Alienware logos can be programmed differently colors. I liked sticking to the default blue. The mouse pad lighting up is really cool to the whole lighting design is what caught my eye for this laptop. Another program it has is Tobi eye tracking mine doesn't have it to where I can use it in games but it's enough for windows hello which unlocks your laptop with just your face and a cool feature is when you look away it puts the computer on stand by then when you look at your screen again it turns everything on. Which brings me to another topic the storage it comes with a 128gb SSD and a 1tb HDD. The OS being on the SSD gives it great power on speed as well as application use. The 1tb HDD for mass storage is a great combination. You can upgrade the storage with an extra m.2 SSD or replace the 2.5 HDD with a SSD. All in all it's a great laptop in terms of construction and performance the price is where it should be. If you can't decide just go with this one.

This laptop is a true powerhouse. It’s not small by any means, but more portable than a full desktop. If need you need tons of performance in a mobile package, you will not be disappointed. The feel and speed of this machine is something to behold.

Bought this Laptop specifically for gaming. I also have a MSI Stealth with the Kaby Lake processor. This machine with the better graphics card and whatever else alien voodoo inside beats out my kabylake machine when it comes to gaming. Large laptop, so if you're going to be on the go, perhaps look into a smaller machine. Absolutely love the display. Handles everything I throw at it with ease. The macro buttons in the keyboard are a great feature. If you need desktop performance in a laptop style package, this machine is a great choice!

This is a top of the line computer. Fast-does it all. My only negative would be the 128 GB SSD. A 256 would have been more "comfortable."

Recently bought an HTC Vive system mainly for gaming at home with gaming desktop. But we are traveling a lot and wanted to be able to take it when visiting family, friends, and on the go. Bought this Alienware primarily to use for VR gaming and it rocks. Beautiful system, beautiful display, and handles the VR great. I wasn't sure if I would like having such a big screen on a NB, but I like do and it is really a plus when sitting at a distance and laughing at friends as they "walk the plank" or do various games on the VR>

I've had Alienware laptops for about 10 years. I've only customized my units in the past, but this pre-built unit fit my needs at a better price than any other outlet. I get reward points ($) in return, so this was truly a good deal.
This unit gets warmer than I had hoped, with the offset screen for the heat sink. It's also louder than I expected (no louder than past units, but I had hoped technology would have improved in that area by now).
I love the SSD boot drive - rebooting is so much faster.

We got a great price on this item and the employee told us all about how the bigger screen and insane memory size (1 Terrabyte!) is the way to go with a computer that my 11 year old son is going to use for years for his gaming interests. The layout is great, functions are all very practical and easy to use, and the visuals are just astounding. An additional bonus is the computer has extra fans inside so it can never get too hot. A cool computer for sure, and if you get it on a discount, go for it.
