Worst decision of a laptop I had ever done. Cost $3000 and thought I was getting top of the line item when this is the buggiest thing I have ever used. I bought laptops half the price that didn’t have any problems compared to this one. I’m currently overseas on a deployment and bought this item right before then. No one ever told me this would be struggling to turn on. Whenever th e screen locks I have to reset the laptop due to the screen not wanting to turn on. Now, im just on a dead laptop that just displays colorful Rgb keyboard with nothing on the screen. This is the first and last time I’m buying an alienware

Built Like A Tank. A High Speed Tank

First the good… This Alienware m18 gaming laptop is a beast. It’s built like a tank which speaks to a type of solid build that I’ve not seen from Alienware since they were acquired by Dell. Just be aware that this is one rather large computer that has a considerable weight to it. The stats on this machine are as impressive as the build quality. Personally I prefer AMD processors and video chips to either Intel or nVidia. When the box arrived two things struck me. It’s big. Like really big. And it’s by far the heaviest laptop I’ve ever used before. The closest I can think I’ve used is an old Grid laptop I had in the mid 90’s. I cannot be 100% certain but my guess is that most of that weight is due to its battery which is odd. I only got around 2 hours and 50 minutes of use on battery while playing a game (GTA V). If you are using it as a regular laptop (web surfing, word process, watching videos) then you get better battery life. But this is a gaming laptop which means you probably won’t being too much “regular” stuff on it. One of the first things that stuck out to me is the number of needed updates on first boot up. Not really that many as I’ve seen much worse. No, what stuck out was the fan noise during the download and installation of them. Think wind tunnel levels of noise. After that the fans weren’t too much of an issue. Gaming while plugged in only yielded loud fan noise after faming for more than three hours straight. Speaking of gaming I should mention again this thing is an absolute beast. At least got a gaming laptop. I was able to set ever single graphics setting to max on the games I tried out and not on single hiccup. Picture quality was outstanding when either gaming or watching a couple of movies. While gaming the images were butter smooth. With movies ditto. That 480Hz refresh rate is no joke. Probably overkill but it’s better to have the power and not need than to need it and not have it. That 32GB of DDR5 memory makes everything I threw at this beast easy as cake. I edited a few photos and a 20 minute 4k video with no issues or hang-ups. Same can be said for the 1TB SSD inside it. It reads and writes at a considerably high speed. I can’t tell you how fast as I don’t do the benchmark thing and just got by feel. It exported that 20 4K video in a few minutes to an external SSD I plugged into one of the USB-C ports. As already mentioned the screen is magnificent. It’s very large and gets reasonable bright. Color accuracy seems on point with the promises made by Alienware. I’m very satisfied and I am a harsh critic of displays. The keyboard is excellent with just the right amount of travel. Now the bad… As mentioned, this computer is a massive gaming laptop. For me the case use is more portable. You take it off your desk at home and bring it with you to game when at a friends house or when you are traveling. An example of how big is trying to fit into the back I normally use when traveling. No go, too big. I ended hunting in my closet for my old backpack that is rather large itself. And if you have a bad back be warned, carrying this on your back will hurt. The trackpad is your usual windows laptop trackpad. It works. I’d recommend using a Bluetooth mouse. It’s easier anyway. Then again I’m a Mac user primarily and I’ve probably been spoiled for life with trackpads. Overall this is one heck of a gaming laptop and is probably the best to come from Alienware in many, many years.

I bought this in open box. It wouldn't even get through setup without crashing. I had to return it and the sale associate who I dealt with said that he had told them multiple times that it didn't function and that it crashed even when it was bought new and that's why it was returned then. She said that she had told them multiple times not to put it back out to sale. Was pretty irritated by the whole thing.

This version of the Alienware M18 is killer. It has the fastest AMD mobile processor, the fastest AMD mobile graphics chip, a ton of RAM, a fast NVMe SSD, and a super-fast refresh screen that looks great. It's also built like a tank, the top and bottom panels are nicely finished metal.. First things first - the display is 1920x1200, 16:10 aspect ratio. At that resolution, this laptop can play any game you throw at it with every video quality parameter set to ultra and still maintain 80+ frames per second. On previous generation games, I had the settings maxed out and was seeing 180-200 frames per second. And those frames look stellar! Funny how the game is much easier to play at those high framerates compared to my old machine which could manage rates in the 30's. This is the only computer I've ever used that plays Microsoft Flight Simulator perfectly smoothly with high detail. The sound is probably the best of any of the dozens of laptops I've owned. Can't get a lot of bass out of the small speakers, but the clarity and sound image surprised me. The keyboard is decent, certainly a step up from mainstream laptops. I use a Bluetooth mouse most of the time but switch to a wired USB mouse when I want to make sure I get no lag. There are plenty of ports for any kind of connection you may need. Also, there are 3 2280 NVMe SSD slots available inside, one is taken up by the SSD that comes with it leaving 2 for expansion. I added a 4TB drive to store all my stuff separate from the drive with the OS. There are 2 RAM slots, both taken up with 16GB SIMMs for this 32GB configuration. You really don't need more RAM than that, plus the graphics chip has 16GB of its own RAM. I never saw more than about half of either being used while playing any of the games I have. There are two minor issues, both pretty much related to the massive power this thing has. First of all, it weighs a ton and has a giant footprint. The separate power brick almost looks like a loaf of bread. The second issue is that this thing has 3 internal cooling fans and it can get pretty loud. It never bothered me since you can't really hear it if you have the sound turned up to gaming levels, but at low volumes it can sound a little like a vacuum cleaner. So take off one tenth of a star for that. Overall, this thing rocks. It's not cheap, but what great things are? This laptop will be all you need for the next few years.

The Alienware m18 FHD 480Hz Gaming Laptop with an AMD Ryzen 9 CPU is a behemoth of a gaming machine, packing high-end specs into a hefty 18-inch chassis. Here's a breakdown of its strengths and weaknesses: Strengths: • Unmatched Performance: This laptop is a powerhouse. The Ryzen 9 processor and top-tier RTX 40 or Radeon RX 7900 series graphics card can handle even the most demanding AAA games and professional applications with ease. • Ultra-Smooth Display: The 480Hz refresh rate is a gamer's dream, delivering buttery-smooth visuals in fast-paced titles. Combined with the FHD+ resolution, it offers great visuals without sacrificing performance. • Cooling Power: The Alienware m18 boasts a sophisticated cooling system with liquid metal thermal interface material, ensuring optimal performance even under heavy load. • Premium Build Quality: The aluminum construction feels sturdy and luxurious, with a sleek Dark Metallic Moon design and customizable AlienFX RGB lighting. • Comfortable Keyboard and Trackpad: The recessed keyboard with full NumPad offers excellent typing feedback, and the 14% larger touchpad is spacious and responsive. • Upgradeability: Unlike most thin and light laptops, the m18 allows for easy access to RAM and storage for future upgrades. Weaknesses: • Price: This beast comes with a hefty price tag, putting it out of reach for many casual gamers. • Portability: At 8.9lbs, the m18 is a desktop replacement, not a true laptop. Its size and weight make it impractical for daily carrying. • Battery Life: Expect moderate battery life due to the powerful components. You'll need to stay plugged in for serious gaming sessions. • Fan Noise: Under heavy load, the fans can get quite loud. Graphic Tests Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (Med) 190 (Ultra) 150 Rainbow Six: Siege (Med) 500 (Ultra) 400 Far Cry (Med) 200 (Ultra) 130 Grand Theft Auto V (Med) 260 (Ultra) 175 Overall: The Alienware m18 FHD 480Hz Gaming Laptop is a top-of-the-line gaming machine for the most demanding users. Its unmatched performance, smooth display, and premium build quality come at a premium price and a sacrifice in portability and battery life. If you're a hardcore gamer with a big budget and a dedicated gaming station, this is a dream machine.

Do Not buy this brick waiting to happen. I have now sent it to dell going on 2 time. The motherboard and daughter board were replaced and after getting it back it instantly failed again. The only good thing is Dell is very quick at shipping the box for you to send it to them to repair. It was next day shipping everytime. I'm sure they are out $300 in shipping by now.

Not even 24 hours in trying to make this thing work, it's been giving me problems left and right. I tried troubleshooting this device, one update led to another problem until it eventually bricked itself. It even gave me a terrible time trying to perform a factory reset. I'm getting my money back the first thing when Best Buy opens up. Do not buy this laptop. Look elsewhere.
