This machine replaced a basic non-HE machine, bought used and very old, that had finally given out. I've had for about a year. The first thing I noticed about this machine was that the wash cycle selection knob was/is so loose it twirles like a top whenever I accidentally nudge it. Hence, though I always leave it on DEEP WATER WASH I'm never really sure that's what I'm getting and, since the lid locks, I can't see the water level. The next thing I noticed immediately upon the finishing of the first load was that when I transferred my washed items from this machine to my dryer the load was SATURATED with water that had not been spun out. Picture this: Every week I have to launder three comforters used by my animals. This was never a problem before. But now after washing those items it's obvious they're not really clean. Worse, they're so wet that I can't run the dryer for anywhere near what it would take to dry up all that water. Yea, It's winter and I have comforters hanging all around my house, near registers, until they're dry enough to put away... Ridiculous. But I shouldn't have to drag these items to a laundromat. I'm an adult with a washing machine, for crying out loud. If you're buying into the hoopla about big savings on your water bill with the new HE washers know that THIS machine will force you to have to DRY your loads longer, resulting not just in your savings disappearing but likely costing you considerably more on your electric bill(!). Woo-hoo. That's bad enough but... Where this machine REALLY fails is in its inability to clean your clothes. I have animals and use white terry cloth rags in lieu of paper towels (which used to save me a lot of money) to clean everything, including litter boxes. I have always washed those rags in a separate load using a combination of quality detergent, bleach, and Borax. Rags used for cleaning will obviously always have stains that will never come out but my cleaning rags NEVER came out DINGY until I started using this machine. My first load of white cleaning rags came out so gray, and I was so disgusted, that I was forced to re-wash the entire load with a boatload of bleach. Since then, every load of white cleaning rags swims in bleach to counteract the inability of this washing machine to clean. But wait. It gets better. Cats puke on everything. If you have them you know about coming home to their dried up bilious goo in rugs, towels, etc.. Well, not once, or twice, but five times I have thrown something a cat has puked on into this washing machine and when the load was done found the puke STILL on the item. And, as always, the load was super wet. More re-washing. I was thinking maybe all HE washing machines were a compromise, much like those hideous CFL lightbulbs everyone tried to convince us were fabulous even though their light was downright funereal and the savings went out the window when all the utility companies raised their rates to make up for the profits they claimed they were losing (though your electric bill never went down, did it?). I started voicing my HE machine frustrations to co-workers only to learn that none of them were having these issues with their HE brands. The difference? They all spent quite a bit more for bigger RPM's. When I first looked inside this machine I was dismayed to see no agitator. When I first used this machine I was dismayed by the obvious lack of sound in the SPIN cycle. I was right to be concerned. When it comes to HE machines, you get what you pay for. Btw, I do NOT overload my machine, ever. I like my laundry clean. I also miss being able to allow a load to soak. You can't do that with this machine. You probably can't do that with any HE machine. I need to commune with my co-workers on that because it matters - and I WILL be replacing this washer with a better one as soon as I can. All I know is If my whites aren't getting clean then nothing's getting clean, whether I can see the dirt or not.

    Unfortunately it doesn’t clean clothes

    Posted
    ILikeCleanClothes

I suppose you get what you pay for, but when my old, very basic model, cheap washer finally quit, I bought this one. I couldn’t be more disappointed. Complain #1: the machine will not allow user to select load size, or water level. Instead, the washer is advertised as “auto-sensing,” and will select the water level based on the “sensed” load size. But the only size it “senses” is extra large: place a small load of hand towels in it, and the machine will fill two-thirds of max capacity. Consequently, it wastes water and excessively dilutes the soap. Complain #2: the washer gently swirls clothing back and forth in its overfilled water tub. The agitator doesn’t “agitate” vigorously enough to clean heavily soiled fabrics — I could clean my clothes more efficiently dipping them in a river. Complaint #3: the washer locks once the rinsing cycle begins (it also locks during washing and spinning). I occasionally have to stop the cycle if I want to drop some liquid softener on the load. I also cannot restart a wash or time the wash cycle once it begins. The cycle has to be cancelled and started over. Certainly a minor inconvenience, nothing more, but as the laundry lord of my home, I like a machine I can fully control, even halfway through a wash, should my teenagers decide to throw in their stinky socks after I started laundry. If Amana wishes to offer a low end, cheap machine to its customers, I recommend skipping the attempts at fancy auto-sensors and automatic locks. Stick with the basics: let us choose the load size, temperature and cycle type, and all that’s required of the washer is to obey the knob selection.

No lint filter- no children, pets or yard work!

I purchased this washer from Best Buy (I checked out as a guest, and I just spent a while chatting with them online, so I guess there is no way for me to be a "verified purchaser".) 13 months ago. I gave up a 27-year-old washer that I sort of regret giving up - it was beginning to have tiny pieces of rust come off in the wash, but they didn't hurt anything - kind of wish I had kept it 'til it died. I don't like the auto-sensing feature - I guess I'm stuck with it because of HE, but it's a problem - I know how much water I want for the clothes I'm washing and how dirty they are. The particular problem with this model (and I have written to Amana and asked them to get their engineers to redesign!) is that there is no lint filter. Fortunately (or unfortunately) I had lost my last cat I will be able to take care of before I bought this washer. The lint trap in the 27-year-old GE washer often had handfuls of cat hair in it and there was no cat hair on my clothes, towels and blankets the cat slept on when they came out of the washer - well there was some, but the washer got much more than the dryer did or that it could have handled by itself! (When you have a cat, cat hair is on everything, and that washer put it all nicely in that lint tray.) Now, it's yard dirt and pieces of pine needles after I work outside - clothes and socks and yard gloves. Sometimes I fish this stuff that should be in a lint tray out of the bottom of the washer after the load is finished. And, today, I had a hot water heater go out and had to use old rags to keep the water from running into my house - well, I washed (I always use the double-rinse - how is that saving water????). Then I used the double-rinse again, and when I was shaking them out to put them in the dryer, so much stuff (dirt, pine needles, small leaves, etc.) came out, I did the double-rinse again (That's 6 rinses on one load). I'm so tired and quite discouraged. I want a washer like my old one! The only reason I gave it a 3 star is that it does okay if you don't have dirty clothes - like with dirt on them or pet fur.

10/17/17 Purchased from ColumbusGA BestBuy for my mom -- Installed by Geek Squad (thanks Tom & Ross). My Mom says: I peeked into the back of the truck when the GeekSquad arrived and our machine was the only MadeInUSA washer (I saw at least 3 other washing machine boxes besides ours). Very easy to use! Buttons are pretty low tech. Easy options for washing, so not overwhelmed by too many choices. Wash water temperature choices: tap cold, cold, cool, warm, hot. (I wash a lot of things in hot, my daughters choose warm most of the time.) All cold rinses. Water level choices: auto sensing & extra rinse, auto sensing, deep water wash, deep water wash & extra rinse. I love the high efficiency low detergent use. I kid you not I use one Tablespoon of Arm & Hammer OxiClean per load and clothes are CLEAN! Nice, quiet machine (compared to our last Amana I inherited from my late mom which worked great for 17 years). Our water bill dropped about $8 to $10 per month compared to our old machine's water use. Haven't really noticed a big difference on electric bill. Every month or so I make sure to run the "clean washer" cycle with a cup of vinegar and hot water, to keep it clean. No complaints. Happy customer. (and if it keeps going for 17 years it will probably outlive me)

I recently had to replace my washer, so I checked out what was available online and listed as "available for pick up today" in my local Best Buy. First, let me start by telling you that Amana is made by Whirlpool, so if the salesman tries to push the more expensive Whirlpool washer, don't fall for it. Same company, just a different price. Next is the actual availability of washing machines in the store. I was told by the salesman that "we don't keep these here at the store due to warehouse space...." blah, blah, blah; however, once I stated I refused to pay the $70 delivery fee on an item that clearly states it is available same day, the salesman suddenly had one in the back room. OK, so those "cons" are out of the way and now I can tell you the "pros" of the washing machine. I love it! This machine automatically senses the size of the load and adds the water accordingly, so no more guesswork when it comes to which setting to use. I'm one of those people who don't need all kinds of bells & whistles on a machine...I want it to clean my clothes without having to take college courses to learn how to use it. For that purpose, this is the perfect washing machine! It also has the option of a second rinse cycle, so you know that all traces of soap are rinsed out. The drum is larger than it looks. I've washed a queen sized comforter in it and had no problems. And another plus is how quiet this is. I actually have to listen carefully to make sure I don't miss the time to add fabric softener. And the spinning cycle on this is great, getting out a lot more water than my old machine did which helps cut down the drying time. Overall, I give the machine itself a solid 5-star rating. I only giving it a 4-star rating due to the salesman.

    So Far, So Good

I've only used this for one load so far. My work jeans came out clean so I am very satisfied with that. The load took about 75 minutes for a Heavy Wash cycle. It does not let water into the drum if the lid is opened. The water settings are Auto-Detect or Deep Wash. There is no Small, Medium, Large load selection. The main dial is not an old-fashioned timer. Hopefully, these electronics will be more robust than other "modern" washers with these digital selector dials. The one load I washed was not very large: two pairs of jeans, four t-shirts, socks, underwear. During the spin cycle the drum had gotten unbalanced---but you can't fix it because the lid locks. It wasn't terribly unbalanced and hopefully it will do fine with a full load. The instruction book mentions some kind of noise reducer add-on--- the noise does not matter to me, but it might be worth looking into for some shoppers. This washer had water in it. The box was sealed, everything appeared brand new, and the instruction book mentioned nothing about water in the system from the factory. When I removed the red rubber cap from the drain spout, probably a pint or half liter of water ran out onto my floor. Is this normal? I don't know. Best Buy had this washer ready for me a day early. I was very pleased with their service. Young girl at the counter was very helpful, and two young men put the washer onto my truck. Three places in Tallahassee offered this model: A local appliance store wanted a 40% higher price. A national Home store offered the same price, but did not offer in-store pick-up. I would have had to pay another $60, then wait at my house for them to deliver it. I'm giving Four Stars because of the water on my floor and because I hate lid locks.

I SAVED A LOT WITH THIS WASHER. IT MEETS ALL MY NEEDS. YOU CAN LITERALLY SET IT AND FORGET IT. YOU DON'T HAVE TO CHECK TO MAKE SURE THAT THERE IS ENOUGH WATER PER LOAD SIZE. THIS MACHINE TAKES CARE OF ALL OF THAT FOR ME WITH THE PUSH OF THE AUTO SENSING BUTTON. I USED TO HAVE TO MOVE THE CLOTHES AROUND IN THE WASHER SO THAT THE WATER CAN SOAK THEM AT THE TUB FILLS. NO MORE OF THAT. THE MACHINE ROTATES THE CLOTHES AS THE TUB FILLS. IT'S NOT VERY LOUD OR DISTURBING WHICH ALLOWS ME TO TO GET A QUICK NAP IN THE DAY OR A GOOD NIGHTS SLEEP WHEN ON MY LAST LOAD. BUT I WILL SAY THIS, I NOTICE A MILDEWY SENT COMING FROM THE MACHINE AFTER USING IT THESE PAST TWO MONTHS. SO YOU GOTTA MAKE SURE TO KEEP THE TUB WATER CLEAN. ALSO, I HAVEN'T NOTICED A BUZZER OR ALARM ON TH MACHINE TO ALERT ME THAT THE LOAD IS FINISHED. SO YES I CAN GET A GOOD REST WHILE IT WASHES MY CLOTHES, BUT I OFTEN TIMES FORGET THAT IT'S WASHING BECAUSE IT'S SO QUIET. NEED TO CHECK AGAIN TO SEE IF AN ALARM/ALERT SETTING COMES WITH THIS WASHER. PEOPLE LIKE ME NEED A REMINDER THAT THERE'S WET CLOTHES IN THE WASHER THAT NEEDS SOME DRYING. MAYBE LEAVING WET CLOTHES IN THE WASHER FOR A DAY OR TWO BECAUSE I FORGOT THAT I HAD ONE LOAD LEFT TO DRY IS WHAT'S CAUSING THAT MILDEWY SENT I SMELL SOMETIMES. BUT WHOSE TO SAY FOR SURE. HMM... BUT IT'S CHEAP, AFFORDABLE, AND DOES A GREAT JOB FOR IT'S VALUE PRICE. I'M PRETTY PLEASED WITH THIS PRODUCT!

Was delivered 3 broken washers in a row

If I could give this product zero stars, I would. We were delivered THREE broken washers in a row. The first one was extremely dented to the point where they said it would not have worked. (Okay, things happen, we ordered a replacement at no cost) The new one could not be delivered for over a week, when it was delivered and we tried it out, it got "stuck" on the wash cycle, meaning it would not drain, rinse, or spin our clothes so they sat in a pool of dirty water! We called and again were told Geek Squad would come look at the washer within a few days and would more than likely be able to fix it on the spot. When they looked at it they said the entire washer needed to be replaced. Again, it was over a week before a new one could be delivered. Once the THIRD washer was delivered it would not even complete the wash cycle, it filled with water and made on odd noise like it was trying to wash, but would not actually wash the clothes or go through any other cycles. At this point we have a date scheduled to get a different washer because I have no faith in this one working (at all, or for long after delivery). I would HIGHLY suggest getting ANY washer but this one. The matching dryer has worked fine for us but it's worth investing another $80 or so on a better washer.

Having to purchase a new washer after the old one gave up and died after 9 years of hard labor. I seen this one at out local HD store (Did not but there). After researching and comparing several different models by various manufacturers side by side. Decided to purchase this AMANA washer and glad I did. After reviewing this washer on line and reading various review by people who rated it anywhere from (1 to 5) I would not believe anyone would go wrong purchasing this machine. Even with some of the review being very poor, it also has a lot of good reviews. This machine is well built to be inexpensive. The wife and I was very shocked to see how quiet it runs, it goes through all cycles and is quiet in all of them. Our old washing would make you jump out of your skin when it started. So we are enjoying this machine. It may not have all the bells and whistles of the more expensive machine, but it does do what it was made to do and does it very well. washes cloths clean and spins them almost dry. It does have a nice selections of different wash setting. Also has the dual action old school agitator that was must have to purchase any machine for me. Was not sure about the lock lid feature but after seeing how it works it is a nice feature especially if you have little ones around, the pause/cancel button works well if you get a load out of balance and have to stop it. I really do not have anything negative to say about this washer like I said it is a great washer for the money so if your are in the market you cannot go wrong with this one.

In May 2016, went online to research new laundry set - husband was ill-I was 24/7 caregiver-needed both ASAP. Due to the fact that Amana had always been sterling silver name to me (Refrigerator owned now for 18 yrs.), saw what I believed was excellent buy, store was nearby so I went down to store, salesperson had no clue, called another to help, he was almost useless also, but since I was desperate, bought, they del d and all was somewhat okay since I was not knowledgeable about HE, water levels, no agitator as I was use to but with some maneuvering clothes came out clean with exception of dirty men's work clothes.....daughter's friend......as they were helping me with care of husband. But now after just 2 + yrs. I have a $400 washing machine that the control panel is shot.........$200. to replace plus service call (already pd $50 to learn 'piece of junk') So just saying be warned by someone who has experience........Amana is not owned by that company anymore............Whirlpool bought them out! Must say that I ve owned Whirlpool products (wash/dryer) in the past, way past, & they held up for many years. When I m buying large products I try to read as many reviews as possible.....hope this will be of help to anyone in need as I was.........blessings!!

I like this machine because it doesn't have a circuit board. I didn't want the possible problem of costly repairs.I wanted a machine that was old school. This machine is a nice blend between old school and newer machines. It has an agitator and is a HE machine. It weighs the clothes and determines the proper amount of water. It always fills the machine with enough water to cover the clothes. The drum size is very large. Amana is made by Whirlpool in America so that's another plus. It does a good job of getting my clothes clean. I must mention that HE LAUNDRY DETERGENT IS A BIG SCAM. I was prepared to pay more money for HE detergent but I discovered in tiny print on my current laundry detergents that it says HE compatible. So take out your reading glasses and look at your labels because you're most likely already using HE compatible detergent. I went online to my favorite detergent's website and it said to use half of the amount that I would regularly use.

Machine stop working properly after first 30 days

I recently purchase this machine after thirty days I notice the washer would only work on the heavy duty setting. When adjusted to the regular setting it would just fill and would not go through the whole washing process of spin, and drain. When I call best buy they asked me if I had and extended warranty. I told the agent I did not they referred right away to Amana with not much help. The only way to communicate with Amana is via online chat which had no agents available to take request. I'm very disappointed with both companies. It seems that support ends right after the item leaves their stores. The reason I purchase this washer was due to an emergency. I had to get something quick and economical. I recommend to purchase a better quality washer. Yes it will be more money but less hassle in the long run. If you absolutely need to purchase this washer for it's price. I highly suggest purchasing the extended warranty!

I purchased this washer because it was one of the only options that would fit in my apartment (only have a 57" opening). While it is not the most beautiful model, it does do it's job. I've been using it for about a month now and it has cleaned my clothes just fine. I typically wash about two to three pairs of jeans, five to seven shirts, and a few pairs of sweatpants in an average load and the machine is comfortably full. I can also wash my king size sheets and duvet cover without a problem. For what it's worth, you WON'T be able to fit a comforter in the washer. The cycles are a bit on the long side (compared to what I'm used to from my old apartment's coin laundry). Normal Regular with auto sensing and extra rinse takes about an hour to wash. Bulky sheets with deep water and extra rinse takes about an hour and a half. The only negatives I have about this machine are that it doesn't have a timer to tell you how much time you have left on the load and that it doesn't have a fabric softener dispenser on the agitator. I picked up a downy ball for about $3 and it's been working just fine. Overall, for being my first washer, I am pleased. Especially since I wanted a different model, but had to get this one.

After hearing stories of friends and family with their high-tech, expensive washing machines having various issues, I decided I wanted a basic, top-load, agitator model with no bells and whistles. I've had the Amana for a few weeks I am very happy with my purchase. The cycles are MUCH faster than other brands I've used, and it gets my clothes nice and clean. It is quiet and just does its job well. I mostly use the full water option, vs the "sensing" water level, although the one time I had a small load I had no issues with the sensing level. The one thing for prospective buyers to note is, I noticed that it was taking my clothes a long time to dry. Sure enough I saw some reviews on youtube, and this Amana only spins out at 600 rpm, which is apparently far slower than most washing machines. As a result the clothes have more water left in them than would be if it spinned faster. Not a big deal, but if fast drying is a big deal, definitely consider something else. For the price, it's hard to complain though.

The knobe to select water says an option for auto sense water level and this functionality is misleading and selects water almost full always. The water bill in my house is high after purchasing this. I could not return this too since I noticed the issue only after the return period is over. If you are a person who is looking for adjustable water level sensing, this may not be a good option for you. Though the lower price is an attraction, it will end in a big loss through utility bill. The whirlpool service ( amana is from whirlpool) and bestbuy from where I bought could not help me since the return period was over.

After reading the reviews, I had high hopes for this Washer. I was looking for something simple that did not have a lot of electronic parts that could fail. Well, I apparently did not go simple enough. Less than a month after purchase, i noticed that the washer would fill to the top no matter what amount of clothes were in it. Apparently, the autosensor had gone bad, but since I rarely wash small loads, i decided it wasn't worth the trouble of a service call. However, it is now four months from the purchase and now the washer is filling up with scalding hot water, even when set all the way to Tap Cold. Still under warranty so a service tech is ordering new parts that will take a week to get in and require me to take the day off work. I guess having electronic sensors make all your choices for you doesn't necessarily make for a better machine.

I just got off the phone after 1 1/2 hours of being bounced from department to department. I got the Amana washing machine online delivered with on time - the machine did not go through the cycle- meaning it filled up with water and drained but never completed the cycle- so my clothes were saturated with water and detergent. I called the appliance department and I was told it could take up to an hour and a half to complete a cycle. So I waited and waited and waited and still nothing. I called back again I was told to unplug the machine so it could reset- Nada machine does not work OK it happens, they replaced it and ta da!! the same situation- when I called they asked if I wanted one for more money- I don't know but it sounds like a ? scam? they are going to return my money and I will go some where else to buy a washing machine- really disappointing.

I purposely purchased the cheapest washer and dryer because I am in a divorce situation and was having to furnish an entire apartment - which was getting expensive. This particular purchase is a major regret. The machine will sometimes get stuck in the wash and rinse cycles, repeating the cycles over and over. If I am not on top of it, it can go on for hours before I notice it. I'm not sure how or why it happens. It is super frustrating when it happens because I expect to be able to dry my items and move on with my day, but cannot. Sometimes it will self correct after several repeat cycles and go on to completion, and sometimes it has to be unplugged for several minutes to reset. I also did not realize that it does not have a place for fabric softener to be added. I had to buy a Downy Ball, which is not that big a deal, but certainly an inconvenience.

I needed a washer and dryer for a house that I bought in Arizona. I was in Wisconsin when I saw this and the matching dryer on sale. By the time I got into Best Buy the sale was over. I found that Home Depot had it on sale and Best Buy matched the price. I had Best Buy deliver and install it along with the dryer and a refrigerator. Everything went in without a problem. To check the installation they ran the washer. I later found the manual and a detergent sample in bag inside the washer. Even with this glitch I gave the guys a great rating. I found this to be the most inexpensive washer out there. I've had high end, high efficiency units before. I found that my biking clothes. golf shirts, and other fine material clothing were getting lots of snags and ruined by the high efficiency units. I haven't had any such problems with this washer. I suspect it is due to the lower spin speed. If I spend more on gas to dry my clothes I see this as cheaper then buying new items to wear. I am happy with this washer.

This washer is still considered "old school" but it does wonders! As a 21 year old woman who needed a set but had a tight budget, this was the right choice. It has ample space and it's simple to use. I love the feature of Deep Water Wash. When I'm washing those blankets that I know need some water than usual, this is the feature I use on them. I also like the fact that if I forget to put the softener and the cycle is finished, I can definitely set it back to just Rinse and Spin, which allows me to then put the softener and the cycle will just pick up from there. I love them! this is my first starter set, and I am 100% a happy customer.
