I am a middle aged professional returning to a doctoral program. I am a paper, pen, book kind of gal. This has been a great vehicle to help me consolidate so many of my required texts into a convenient space. It has a "book" feel. I carry it everywhere!

The basic Kindle is for reading only -- it's not a tablet, there's no internet connection, no color graphics. It's ideal for reading however and if that's your primary interest this is fine.

I bought this Kindle for my son and it has proven to be very good purchase as he has not had any problem with it and has increased the amount of books he reads.

The kindle has improved is interface gone to touch screen the keyboard for searching is the most noticeable improvement. Your able to modify the display area if you got large hands like myself so its not as cumbersome as it would be other wise. Overall a better product than the earlier model.

Not having the backlit display is a huge downer for me, so if you can afford the upgrade to the Paperwhite, I would definitely recommend it. But for this price point, it's good (but I'm biased...I've loved every Kindle I've ever owned).

My 12 year old daughter loves it and has already read 6 books on her Kindle. The only thing she has complained about is that it is not well backlit. She would like to be able to read it in the car at night when the fam is on the road.

I've been using the Amazon Kindle for quite a few months and it has totally replaced my books. I love the display and Amazon's ecosystem is awesome. If you are in the market for an e-reader, buy the Amazon Kindle.

I bought this for my mom who is not at all tech savvy but loves to read. She loved it and it was so simple for her to use.

The majority of my public domain books are collected in Kindle Cloud Reader. I have used a tablet, but the e-Ink of the Kindle is easier on my older eyes. Not to mention that it was on sale when I bought it. That was the dealmaker.

I absolutely love my new kindle. The only negative is this one does not have a backlight, but I just clip a booklight in the corner and it's perfect.

Served the purpose it was designed for. Returned because it did not have a built in light and I need light for night reading. Great for the beach but needs outside light source for night reading.

I was a bit surprised to notice that there are no more buttons to maneuver through the Kindle, but after a bit of getting used to it, it works fairly well. The Kindle now has more the feel of a tablet to it then before.

I have the paper white & bought this Kindle for my Mother in Law. We are both avid readers & this is perfect. Battery life holds up well, you can read in direct sunlight & it`s compact enough to take wherever you want. Love it!

Great product. Especially if you just want to READ. No need for any other features. Easy to download new books.

bought this product for my daughter. The price difference to the next models which have color screen is very small, but I wanted a product for reading books only. My daughter is very happy with it.

Lightweight, easy to use and its very good to take any where.

I am very pleased with this kindle. I had an older kindle that wasn't touch screen and this one is which is very comfortable. I especially like it because it does not have its own light source. I have always wondered how healthy it is to have light constantly shining on your face from an electronic device.

Unfortunately this was not the Kindle I needed for my grand daughter. She needs a Kindle Fire or a regular tablet. She wants to play games; so I returned the Kindle so someone else can enjoy it for its amazing cost.
