Great return to form for AMD

I've been using Intel for the past few generations because they've been far ahead of AMD, especially for gaming. Now with Zen 2 and especially the 3700X, AMD is bringing top tier performance and value and competitive again with Intel in gaming. While this won't get you the highest possible FPS in gaming, the utility is so much higher than a comparably priced Intel processor, with more cores and thread for productivity. The only bad part is that being an early adopter, there are still BIOS and driver issues and additional refinement that AMD needs to make in order to make this a more polished product. Additionally, the density of this 7nm part makes it heat up extremely quickly, even though it has a relatively low TDP. The included cooler is fine, although I recommend an aftermarket one for better cooling and more quiet operation.

Upgraded to this from my Ryzen 2600. Good: Pretty solid increase in game performance. It’s not a 9700K. You’re not buying this because of gaming. You buy this because it’s performance is really solid with gaming and you need the extra cores/threads for more tasks that may require it. It certainly holds it own though. Not a single issue, it handles everything I throw at it with ease from gaming to video editing to the oh so common basic tasks such as word processing/web browsing. Pure honesty: if all you’re going to do is gaming related things and you have a set budget.. just get a Ryzen 3600. The performance isn’t that far Off in gaming. If your needs are beyond gaming go with the 3700X. Avoid the 3800X because it’s not worth the money for what little performance increase you’re getting over the 3700X. I was fortunate enough to not have a specific budget when I purchased this so I went above the 3600.

Great CPU for a ground up build

I wanted to upgrade my image processing computer to take advantage of new AI software. I waited for the release of this CPU to start the build. I used it with a new generation ASRock Extreme 4 570 motherboard. The build went smoothly and the system POSTed first try. This box replaces an Intel i7 system. I'm not a gamer and I don't overclock, this box is strictly for productivity. I did look hard at the Intel i9, which would probably met my needs as well, but I wanted to go with the newest generation. A tip of the hat to BestBuy, who allowed me to pre-order at MSRP and delivered as soon as the second batch reached them.

Great processor at a good price. Upgraded from a Ryzen 1600 and saw an immediate improvement. Going from 6 to 8 cores helps for my programming/compiling times.

AMD knocks it out of the park with this processor for the price. Plenty of cores and thread to run most modern games. Highly Satisfied with purchase. Used the Best Buy pick up service and was satisfied with little wait.

I had a 2200G then a 1600 for the last year. Both were great, and the 1600 was ALMOST enough power for me. But when I read about the new gen of Ryzen coming out I got excited and ALMOST plopped down for the 3900x. But made a conservative turn and I'm glad I did. The 3700x is within something like 10% as much power as the 3900x and I saved 170 bucks (which I dumped into RAM)(3200 which I OC to 3600 w/o issue). And Bam. Blazing. And the wraith prism is so GD beautiful. It's honestly my favorite part of the new rig. I never thought I'd like rgb but the rainbow color shift is awe inspiring. I stare at it haha. You won't be disappointed. Enjoy.

AMD's third gen processors are better than comparably-priced Intel CPUS. Although Intel does not want us to know that with misleading and false claims that the Intel's CPUs are better, a number of Intel claims of superiority has been proven as outright deception and falsehoods by crippling the AMD CPUs in comparison tests. UserBenchmark is an example. Ther test shows the Intel as only 1% faster than the AMD, but their test scores only weight the multi-core performance as 2% of the overall score. Earlier this year, Intel showcased their TOTL CPUs at a show only to fail in disclosing that their CPU was highly overclocked and cooled by an illegal cooling system the size of an ice chest. In another comparison, the Intel was show as superior to an AMD CPU by discretely disabling half of the AMD cores. They also claim that any software test suites that shows AMD as superior as being biased toward AMD, but also accepting those same suites if the Intel is shown as superior. I used to have an Intel i7-8700K and replaced it with the AMD 3700X. The AMD 3700X has eight cores and 16 threads. The Intel has six cores and 12 threads. While the Intel has a faster CPU, the higher number of cores in the AMD shows that the AMD is about 48% faster than the Intel when using all the cores. Since the Intel has a faster CPU, apps that use only single-cores (such as most games) will be slightly faster than the AMD. In this case, by a couple of per cent. Since I do video transcoding, the 3700x has shown to be over 20% faster than the i7-8700K. In all other applications, i find the AMD much more than adequate over the Intel i7-8700K,

This is a great processor. Stock settings hold temps from 28c to 35c max. Overclocked, looking at 38c to 49c. This was all ran using the stock cooler that was given in the package. Speed is great. A very good middle ground for someone wanting power at the best price point. As mentioned in my title, don't use low end boards with this guy. Might have been user error, but this guy ate two cheaper x570 boards. got one with more heft and didn't have an issue.

This is a great processor. Very fast and is not only great for multi-tasking, multithdeaded applications but gaming as well. With that said, if you're looking to drop it in an older x300 or x400 series mobo, be mindful that the bios is in its infancy. Therefore you may have some boot issues or problems with the chip not boosting properly. If you're going straight to X500 mobo then go for it and emjoy! Make sure to pick up some fast low latency RAM. (Samsung bdie) to get the most out of your chip.

I picked this up to update my Ryzen 7-1700. (The 3xxx series is as far as my mainboard, an Asus Prime X370 Pro, is likely to go.) It is exactly what I expect from AMD, CPU wise. Simple drop-in replacement, unlike Intel's "change the socket and chipset for each generation" nonsense. It's a 65w part, 8 cores, 16 threads, and handles whatever I throw at it nicely. I'm 100% happy with the processor, which is why I gave five stars. But - and there's always a but... The included Wraith Spire cooler was the big letdown. Yes, it's a value-add. It's big, it cools well, it has RGB. However: - Going from the 1700 (screws into the backplate with the MB after removing the clips,) you ... need the clips, so I had to dig those out again. It makes sense, as this is a much wider cooler, but it's really irritating. If you're upgrading like me and, for some reason, DIDN'T keep the cooler mounting clips to put back on (which got taken off again, btw, with the cooler master cooler I replaced this with,) you'll have to source some and appropriate screws. - This thing was noisy and *buzzed.* Apparently this is a known problem, and there are two versions of this cooler, one with (I want to say) 7 blades which buzzes, one with (again, from memory) 11 which doesn't. Contacting AMD will, apparently, allow you to request a non buzzing replacement. - The RGB is... annoying. Hook it straight to an RGB header, you can control the fan, sure. Not the lit ring or the logo. If you want to do *that,* you have to swap out to a cable that goes to a USB header and, for some reason, download software from Cooler Master. Otherwise it's not going to let you change it. (I'm not sure if an ARGB header will work. I kind of doubt it from other reviews and help requests I went through.) So it'll be *another* piece of RGB software. Thanks to that and the buzzing, as mentioned, I went with a Cooler Master tower cooler (which meant removing those clips again, and good riddance) and life was good - and quieter - again.

This has gone above and beyond my expectations. Coupled with the Asus TUF X570 this is a beast in VR games. No Man's Sky running beautifully. Make sure your memory is compatible with this processor and your board so you don't have any issues. Coming from intel my entire life I think saying I was nervous about this purchase was an understatement. I really liked what AMD was doing with this chip, really pushing things in a new direction. The faster your memory the better, these new chips like fast memory a lot. They also are very dependent on cooling. The better your cooling solution is the faster this processor will go, without you having to do anything other than install a better cooler. The processor automatically adapts to how well its being cooled and overlocks itself. If you're seeing a higher than normal voltage at stock/auto settings that is absolutely normal. When a program like hwinfo/cpuz reads the voltage it sometimes gets the last peak voltage it was at because the core that its polling is possibly asleep so amd won't let it poll the live voltage because that would wake it up.

At first I was skeptical to get an amd processor as I was a bit of an intel fanboy, ut after I looked at some benchmarks and apple's to apples conparisons I realized it was the processor for me to get. With 8 cores and 16 threads for 350, you cant beat that deal with an Intel chip currently. So if you're in the market for a good gaming and all around great processor for 300 dollars. This is one you should look at.

This CPU is excellent. Not only are 7 series CPU's compatible with more value based, older motherboards but this thing performs like a beast. I never have to worry about how many processes are running on PC because this CPU tackles it all. I bought it to stream and play games at higher settings, and it handled that just as well as I expected. Highly recommended.
