3700x will be a better deal

Basically I'm very happy with 3800x. I bought it on Black Friday with a nice price which is only 10 bucks higher than 3700x. But be advised, it is very very hot with a 105w tdp whereas 3700x is only 65w. And the performance I would say they are basically the same. The only difference is 3800x has a higher base clock but you can easily raise your 3700x in bios. Unless you are an extreme OCer, the boost clock speed will also be very close. At least my 3800x never hit the advertised boost clock due to my cooler and case can not quite handle so much heat. Besides, 3800x and 3700x are both single chipdate design, not like 3900x which is double chipdates. For Ryzen 3000 series, single chipdate has only 1/2 ram writing bandwidth than double chipdates cpu. So in my opinion, unless you can find a nice price, go for 3700x or spend 100 bucks more get a 3900x

Takes a little bit of testing to find the ultimate bios settings. With the right overclocks it performs better than the 9700k in many ways. Definitely do not buy this to go with a b350 board. Was unsuccessful getting the b350 tomahawk to work. Each bios update you will probably have to change the settings again but to be fair you can't tell the difference between stock unless you are looking at the fps.

I haven't built a PC in 20 years, I'm amazed at how much easier it has gotten and how incredible AMD has become over this time frame. This CPU was an incredible bargain on sale during the 2020 Holidays. It's up and running with the Wraith Prism cooler that looks great in my RGB Chassis. Interesting to note the Wraith Prism cooler has support for both RGB sync from the motherboard (+5v only) AND a direct connection to a motherboard USB 9 Pin for even more control over the lighting effects using software from Cooler Master. Very fun!

Good chip but there's better options

Yes it's fast and overclocks well. Handles everything with ease. So my complaint isn't with the performance but with the temps and TDP. 3700x makes more sense. Water-cooled this chip run pretty toasty and no way the stock cooler would be able to keep up. Even on water I'm hitting 70-80c while gaming. Stock out of the box and on an X570 the voltages aren't set to what they should be 1.41v out of the box. It has never hit the advertised boost frequency without me going in and manually overclocking to it. The good part is it will run 4.5GHz at 1.32v and gets the temps in a more comfy range of 50-60. Again, it performs really well but, so does the 3700x for less money and at lower temps.

Extremely fast and runs beautifully for gaming. Did experiment with OC too and was able to get 4.5 on all cores but decided to strip the OC for better gaming performance. But if you dabble in design/rendering then this chip will suit you well

Great CPU with plenty of power for your gaming or streaming needs. Paired the 3800x with a new 3080 I was lucky enough to snag as the centerpiece of my first build, and the performance is ridiculous. The plan was to wait for the Ryzen 5000 series, but I ended up going with this chip and I honestly don't see any need to upgrade anytime soon. This cpu enables me to stream while gaming at ridiculous frame rates and never seems to break a sweat. I'm very pleased with my purchase. Performance is great right out of the box as well. I've got absolutely no complaints whatsoever. It's a great CPU, and an excellent value as well. I highly recommend it!

very good cpu. good at multitasking and is pretty fast. good for gaming. I have it paired with a 5600xt and can get right aroung 60 fps on most games. 165 on some other games such as minecraft. but i know that my gpu is the limiting factor on most AAA games. stock cooler runs a little loud out of the box with precision boost overdrive. but still doesnt reach max temp in a 4000d airflow with ample cooling. good midrange gaming/ possible production cpu for the price.

I order this to upgrade my last amd fx 8150 and i really see a huge improvements. The base speed is 3.9ghz i was able to overlock to a whopping 4.2ghz and it been stable as of this writing nothing crashes and i play modern warfare 2019 fine. I've always been an amd fan abd have use their processor for over 20 years since i was a teenager. I would highly recommend AMD because they pretty rule the 2019 market and soon rule 2020 market also.

Easy to install and runs well! Intel processors do usually result in more frames on many gaming titles but ryzen comes in cheaper on most markets. The difference in frames however is usually minimal for a large price difference though equally ryzen currently handles and performs overclocking better it would seem my current experience and what others have said online. This over clocks with its stock cooler and 4 case fans at 4.4ghz without passing 67 Celsius for me. It handles emulators very well including Yuzu and cemu!

I did a lot of research before I got the AMD RYZEN 7 3800x I’m a light gammer (World of Warcraft). The processor comes with the AMD Wraith RGB cooler (which is gorgeous all lit up in my system). During extended game play on The Ryzen’s CPU default settings, the processor’s temp. stays around 54 Celsius. When I change the over-clock setting To “precision over-clocking” through the AMD Ryzen master software, that temp jumps up to around 63 C. The fan bumps up a bit; audible but it is not full throttled at all...maybe goes between 1500 - 2000 RPMs. It’s still quiet though. My game play doesn’t change though, so I keep the settings on default. It will run three or four applications in another window while I play my game and it keeps its cool on default...again, it will go into the low 60s Celsius, but the fans stay low and don’t rev at all...silent, and no over heating...not even breaking a sweat! I love this processor! I would absolutely recommend it for its performance and stability. It has not yet stalled or frozen even running gaming with 3 other programs like disk defrag., Samsung magician drive analysis, windows explorer (YouTube music video) and a game playing on another 32 inch high resolution screen (I have two screens on my rig). Hope this is helpful!

Took a few tries to get the cooler to socket correctly, but other than that it was a smooth install. The processor itself works very efficiently. I can boot up in just seconds, especially with a NVMe drive. The stock cooler does a good job keeping temperatures down even when gaming. Can't wait to see how it performs with a upgraded cooler.

Pros: Faster than my Intel 5930K and AMD 2600X in single and multiple core performance. The 3800X can achieve better clocks than the 3700X. I get 4.525 GHZ turbo boost using the latest bios on two cores, and about 4.350 GHZ max on the rest of the cores. Overclocking I can run at 4.4 GHZ all cores with 1.37vs, 4.425 GHZ at 1.4Vs if you're comfortable with the heat this processor can produce. I settled on 4.375 GHZ across all cores at 1.35vs. This allows the processors to stay under 73c full load. Cons: Off sale this processor is $70 more than the 3700X. This results in 1-5 FPS in additional performance which is great, but 150 FPS compared to 145 FPS is not is meaninglessness at 1080P. Lastly is the heat when using 1.37v or higher. I was regularly seeing temps at 80c when using 1.4vs. The minor bump in performance is not worth causing additional stress on your processor. When using turbo boost the 3800X is all over the place causing fans ramp up and CPU heat all over the place.

Used this as an upgrade from an older 2600. I had been on a 2200G before that and had definitely noticed frame timing and stuttering issues on both compared to this CPU. Overclocking was pretty straightforward (even if it's not the best in the world), this still works awesome with hyperthreading disabled. Super fast.

Great upper-mid range CPU for B450-B570 compatible motherboards. I used this for my starter build and it handles quite well, whether it be gaming on high or ultra and getting a playable 60FPS or higher, multitasking, as well as being used for any productivity-related task such as editing, or designing on your off-time!

This is a great cpu. Installed in an Asus b450 f motherboard. Very fast in all applications. I have it paired with a 5700 gpu and average FPS in cod mod warfare multiplayer is 110. This is using it set on 2k with all settings on very high. I replaced a 2700x with this cpu and it has improved my 1% lows in gaming.
