    4k video is far superior to the previously released blu ray. Audio is also a nice step up. Highly recommend.

    If you’ve seen this movie, you know what to expect. If not, the movie is based loosely on the life of Frank Lucas, who was a multimillionaire Harlem druglord in the 70s who smuggled drugs from Vietnam in the coffins of dead soldiers. It’s Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe, reunited for the first time since Virtuosity. Great performances all around. The transfer is full screen, at 1.85:1 aspect ratio and looks and sounds great with a new native 4K transfer and DTS X soundtrack. It’s never looked or sounded better. Sadly, there’s no Dolby Vision, but this film has more realistic colors.

    fun gangster movie, not the greatest, not the worst, but entertaining nonetheless. video transfer from blu ray isn't that different.

    I saw American Gangster in the theaters and had to own it. I have also seen the movie Hoodlum about gangster Bumpy Johnson, so I was interested in his protégé, Frank Lucas. Very good performances by Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe, the two main characters. Its not the typical gangster movie as there isn't an overly amount of gunplay, most of the film is concerned with how both men got to where they were and how their worlds would eventually collide.
