Customers express satisfaction with the Bolt Charger's Bluetooth connectivity and microphone quality, frequently praising its ease of use. However, negative feedback centers on the Google Assistant functionality, with comments citing slow response times and compatibility issues, particularly with iPhones and other non-Android devices. Some users also reported difficulties during the initial setup process. The overall experience appears mixed, with strong positive feedback on certain features offset by significant concerns about others.

This is an amazing product that has changed my commute. It does exactly what it is supposed to do, which is act as a hands-free microphone between me and phone while I'm in the car. It hears me clearly and even better than when I have tried just yelling at my phone in the car.
I would recommend this to anyone who streams music or audiobooks from their phone to their car stereo. It handles commands perfectly and I can switch from Google Play Music to Audible hands free with no issues. I can also listen to my notifications and it will read my texts to me. It actually makes me happy to use it every day, and I know I am being a much safer driver.
I'm not sure why others had so many issues. I can only think it is because either they don't have Bluetooth or they don't understand what this device really is for. I plugged mine in while still in the Best Buy parking lot and within a minute or so it updated and was giving me directions to the closest Starbucks. Also, I am not having any issues with Bluetooth delays. I should say that I do not have an older car and my car already has Bluetooth. I also do not have an older phone, so it seamlessly synced with my phone and there is no bickering between them. They even removed it during a car wash and when I popped it back in it was running again in a matter of seconds.
So if you're on the fence, I would say read the reviews with a grain of salt. I've had nothing but excellent experience with this gadget.

A Good Upgrade, But With A Beta Feel

The Roav Bolt is for sure an upgrade for the audio system in older cars, but it's not perfect. Although the Bluetooth works great, the connection sounds good, and the mics pick me up surprisingly well, there are some fixes needed. The big problem is that the device does not always connect correctly to my Pixel 3. Sometimes it works, sometimes Assistant cannot seemingly connect to the device. Spotify specifically has some issues connecting to the Assistant and the Bolt. Are these Bolt's fault? I have no idea, but hopefully something can be done in the future.

I was extremely giddy when I opened up the iconic ROAV orange and white packaging. I was very impressed with the box and packaging and how it opened. The build quality of the charger is incredible. It’s well built, feels heavy and sturdy. Now for the purpose of this review, I have an Essential PH-ONE, I have a few google assistants at home and am fairly familiar on how to use it.
Whats in the box? Roav Bolt,3.5mm aux cord, and some reading material.
Install: Set up was a breeze. Turn on Bluetooth, select the Roav Bolt from available bluetooth options. Follow the screen prompts on your phone and voila, you’ll hear a few audible tones to test the connection.
First impression after install: I felt the USB ports on the side are very awkward. I know every car is different, but my 12v cigarette lighter outlet is more on the dashboard imbedded into a compartment then near the transmission/cup holders. So when the usb charger sticks out at a right angle into the side, I can really only use the top USB port.
Bolt in use: “Okay, Google” or “Hey, Google” turns the mic on into listen mode. I tried a few basic commands that I had typically used before. “What’s the temperature outside” - In Grayslake, the current temperature is 56 degrees. Seemed to work well. “Okay, Google - Open Waze” - it opened Waze quickly without confusing the Google Assistant on my phone. “Okay, Google - Play. “Okay, Google - Turn the Entryway to Cool, Set the Entry way to 70 degrees”.
Now here are my gripes, besides the USB placement. My phone charges very slowly. I am used to the Anker PowerDrive Speed 2 which produces 39W and quick charges my Essential PH-1. Now I’m getting a slow charge with 24W and a 12W max per slot, and am a little disappointed by the lack of speed. There is also a Google Assistant button on the top, once pressed it will tell you what time it is. I do not like this feature, I wish it would just listen for a command instead of saying “Okay, Google” or maybe have a shortcut or something that could be customized.
I love having the Google Assistant hooked up to the car, but before I had my Android Phone, which I could theoretically do the same things. With the PD Speed 2 I could at least quick charge my phone.
Today, I found out that I have a cigarette outlet in my armrest and one in the back seat, I am going to try to put the Bolt in one of those spots, where I can still use the PD Speed 2 and get my quick charge. I call that a win win!

Outstanding Car Charger with Google Assistant!

I was looking for a Google voice assistant gadget for my car. I am a big fan of Anker products and purchased Anker ROAV - Bolt Charger with Google Assistant. Packing is excellent as you expect from Anker products. It came with Anker ROAV Bolt Charger with Google Assistant, Get started guide, 3.5mm Aux cable. The design is unique and it has two PowerIQ-equipped charging ports with VoltageBoost intelligently detect and deliver the optimum charge to any device.
Setup is easy and the pairing process went smoothly with iPhone 11. Build quality is solid and lightweight as well. Bolt + Google Assistant is compatible with Spotify, Pandora, Google Play Music, YouTube Music, iHeartRadio, TuneIn, and Deezer in Android and Apple Music, Google Play Music, YouTube Music, and iHeartRadio in iOS. By pressing the button on top, it will activate google voice assistant. I am using this very often voice commands in car-like calling "Ok Google Call Joe.", "Ok Google What's my ETA?". Voice-controlled navigation can be activated by saying the word to get turn-by-turn directions.
With Dual Signal Processing Technology voice commands will be heard loud and clear with Bolt's unique technology that combines advanced on-device signal processing with machine learning-based signal processing on Google Cloud. It comes with 18 months warranty from Anker. I highly recommend this to activate the Google assistant in cars.

Initial setup is a bit confusing. After the initial setup, it will automatically connect to your device. You will need to set it up for every vehicle you want to use it in. After you say "hey Google", you need to wait several seconds before you say the command you want it to perform. Sometimes it will not respond if there is noise from your air conditioner or other noises in your vehicle. I hope they fine tune it for the next iteration.

Wanted to try one of these out and see how practical they really are. Because my cat dosent have Bluetooth built in I also wanted something I could pair my phone with to listen to Pandora. For the simple fact that I can listen to whatever I'm playing on my phone it gets the 4 stars. I have it connected with the 3.5mm Jack and it works and sounds good. My only gripe is that the volume of the assistant isn't as loud as the music so i have to turn it up to here directions and then back down. I also don't like that there isn't a quick way to skip a track. Telling Google to skilp works but it would be a lot easier if you could double tap the button. It's nice that you can say ok Google or press the button to get it listening. Directions and smart home stuff all work as they should. The charging ports are in an odd location for my car but that's not the devices fault. If you looking for a fun little thing to mess with and are locked into Google's eco system i say get one and see how it works for you.

Roav is an excellent Bluetooth companion for my car. It gets the job done. The only thing to be watchful about is it’s dependence on Google assistant app in your iPhone. Make sure the app is running in background. I wish the device has controls to forward/rewind tracks.

Very easy to connect to phone and car. The far-field microphones are dramatically better at picking up my voice than my phone or car Bluetooth was and the noise-cancelling works! I can place phone calls with my windows down and the person I'm calling doesn't hear the wind at all! I basically have a Google Home in my car now and it is amazing! The only problem is the Bluetooth is so good that because my cigarette lighter doesn't turn off when my car does, the Bluetooth stays active and my phone stays connected even from my apartment three floors above the parking garage!

I bought this device because my Jeep doesn't have a smart display and I wanted to be able to play and control my own music and respond to texts or calls while I was driving now that the new texting and driving law passed in Florida. This device works well WHEN it works. It plays back music, no distortion on sound quality. The phone calls are 4/5 stars. Sometimes the other people can't hear me well and I have to practically yell but that might be in part to my truck not necessarily being sound proof when I'm driving down the highway because I have a soft top. The problem is that this device works every other time I turn it on. Half the time I get no connection whatsoever or a connection reject by my phone. Other time it won't recognize my voice command. I've had to force restart this device 3 times and I've had it maybe 4 months. So, it works well IF it decides it's going to work that day.

I put this in my older vehicle. It has the stock stereo unit which sounds great, but it has not Bluetooth connectivity. I plugged this into my cigarette lighter and ran the short aux cable from this to the aux input. then you connect this unit to your mobile device and voila done. It was simple, sound is excellent. The voice command feature on this via google is just ok, Not sure if its the mic input on this or maybe where it is placed in my vehicle, but it can be improved. But for the money and the quality of the audio sound, it helped my update my older vehicle to more current times.

My car is 2011, the time when Bluetooth in cars was a fragmented mess. I use this to play music wirelessly, both when traveling for work and when commuting locally. Not having to hook up a wire is awesome. While Android has its glitches, which means connecting can be inconsistent, there's no substitute for having the Google Assistant in your car. Easier to play music, hear navigation over the speaker, and charge my phone at a higher voltage, I wouldn't go without. If I lost it, I would purchase another. That's a good sign by all metrics.

The ROAV is a great product and perhaps one of the only devices that brings the Google assistant to Your vehicle if you don't own an Android phone. But with that being said, this doesn't very well with iPhones. Although it will respond when summoned, your Google Assistant is limited when paired with an iphone. When you ask to open any app in your phone, you'll have to tap on a notification that is sent to you. This gets annoying especially because you want to be hands free while driving, not having to worry about tapping a notification just to open Spotify

Great Item by a well known company of these little gadgets. My vehicle does not have bluetooth so using this with aux cable matches perfectly. It also is very useful for handsfree driving. Hears my voice a lot clearer than my phone does when I use speakerphone. Setting it up could be a little difficult just make sure you follow the directions and even if your car already has bluetooth using the aux cord if possible will gratefully improve connection.

I bought the Bolt for a present. When we set it up with their phone it worked for a day and then was not showing up under assistant. They have a Huawei phone and I have had problems with the Road Viva in the past. I recently switched to a Motorola X4 and decided to try it with my phone. It works great. I ended up giving them the Viva, which works better with Huawei and using the Bolt myself. Been using over a week with no problems.

It actually does use the Assistant on your phone but the enhanced functionality is fantastic. Making the Roav a trusted Bluetooth device allows me to do everything without having to unlock or touch the phone. The microphone on the Roav is much better than the one on my phone even when listening to loud music. The only shortcoming I can complain about is that it will only pair with one phone at a time.

I just dont spend enough time in my car to justify new Sirius radio fees. I found this little device and thought I would give it a try. Easy to set up. I run my music apps from my phone. Great sound through my car speakers. No issues. I would recommend getting yourself one if you want to save on subscription fees.

Useful gadget; not for everyone. Sure, your phone can do most of the things that this does, but my #1 use case is when my phone is connected to bluetooth but I'm not using it for media -- the Bolt can send it's audio through your car's bluetooth as a phone call, which enables it to respond to queries when you're listening to regular radio. Ding ding! Winner!

I think this might be better if you use mostly Google services and/or an Android phone. Bought it for my mom who loves having google in the house, but on an iPhone it becomes more distracting that it is worth. If you ask it to make a phone call, you have to confirm it on the iPhone screen, defeating the purpose, and it only works with streaming music services connected to it. It cannot play/pause whatever is already running.

The charging speed for all Roav charges is great, they all charge very fast. The device itself is great, it helps a lot when on the road. The only thing I didn't like is that the car it was installed on is a small car and doesn't block the road noise very well and it affects the quality of the calls. At times you can also listen double voice when on the other line outside of the car.

I have an iPhone, and I must say, it works pretty ok. I took out one star because Google Assistant makes it difficult to configure the device to perform voice activated commands when you have an iPhone. I just wish there was more to the support options available for this because when it works, it works great.
