Hit and miss
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So first off, if you car has an AUX but no Bluetooth, you can use the ROAV as a bluetooth adapter - connect your phone to the ROAV and the ROAV to your car stereo via AUX. If your car has a bluetooth, well then this is not for you, you already have Android Auto, use that and save yourself the trouble. So, if you fall into category 1, lets talk about the good things - Well now you can use bluetooth to connect to your car (via ROAV Aux). That's about as good as it gets - - The "Hey Google", "Okay Google" hotword detection isn't that great. - There is almost ALWAYS a lag in response once it does decide to hear you. The amount of times I have resorted to using the "mic" on the app I was using, renders this thing as a "smart" assistant useless. The first time I hooked it up, it did perform a firmware update, and I wonder if this will get better with another update. If so, I will post an update. Till then - if you want a bluetooth adapter that looks coool, go for it. If you think this is Google Home for your car, you will be disappointed.

Honestly, A Waste
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I should say, I should not have gotten this. I did not know it was going to be a duplicate of what I can already do with my phone in my car. Big booooo. Issues: I have to yell at it a few time, "Hey Google!," before it responds. I tested playing music with it. I had to yell, "Skip! This! Song!" or "Play! Next! Song!" before it will do the command, IF it even decides to do that command. The music is lower than when I connect via Bluetooth directly to my car, which is lower than when I connect via usb. So..... I could not get my iPod touch to talk through my car speakers (even though it was connected to the Roav and would listen to Ok Google commands). However, when connected to my Android phone, it would talk through my car speakers. Worst issue: I cannot play my iPod via car iPod/USB source and use car Bluetooth source at the same time. Wtf. In conclusion: I guess if you have no other option, i.e. an older car (maybe?) then well, try your luck. I don't like it. I don't get it. And I do not recommend it.

Great Hands Free Device!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you have a Google Home device or use an Android phone, you will feel right at home with this device. You can fully control this device using voice, allowing your eyes and full attention to remain on the road. It can be used for things such as playing music, controlling navigation, making calls, and more. Best of all, it includes built-in USB ports so you don't have to sacrifice charging any of your devices. The call quality is great and the assistant is very response. This is a great device!

Check Compatibility First
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Apparently my 2015 model year car is in between technologies. It does not have integrated blue tooth audio but also does not have an aux plug. Therefore, to test this device I used a stand alone speaker to plug it into. Once I did this it worked fine but I would not recommend this configuration for most people. As long as you have an aux in jack for your audio system you should be good to go. The device does respond to commands better than just using my phone though. In particular being able to say "Ok Google, what do I have for upcoming appointments?" and getting the next few calendar entries read aloud is really great. My only reason for the low star rating is that I could not test it thoroughly and in my case, it was not clear that this would be a problem before I requested the product.

Convenient Charger and Audio Input
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just about anyone with a phone used as a media machine knows it's good to have a charger handy everywhere you go, so having the Roav Bolt to give you the charging while also giving you the ability to pump your phone's Bluetooth audio output into the "aux" input of your car stereo is a handy thing to have indeed. For any of you that already have Bluetooth audio built in, this would be a waste of money. And to emphasize--if your car stereo *doesn't* have a 3.5mm Aux audio input, the Bolt is pretty much just a charger. So, hey--if your vehicle has a nice sound system with an aux input but no Bluetooth, the Roav Bolt is for you!

Good
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall this product works as advertised. It is not fully functional with an iPhone which I expected. It does work flawless with my pixel 2. I don't have Bluetooth in my car but I do have an aux jack. Connecting this to my aux jack and using it as Bluetooth connection to my phone is great. I'd give this 5 stars if it had more working functions with an iPhone but I know why it doesn't.

Does not work as advertised
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As a person who commutes quite a bit, I was excited to try this out. That’s where the excitement ends. I cannot recommend the ROAV in any way. I am usually quite the fan of Anker products, but this is nowhere near ready. Initial pairing took several tries. Third time's a charm? Not in this case. I am running Android 9.0 and everything is up to date on my phone. This is supposed to work with your phones Google assistant by your voice commands, but apparently the commands are near useless. I have tried numerous tests, even the voice commands written on the retail box, with minimal to no luck at best. In fact, after you wake the device by saying okay Google, it takes about seven full seconds (timed with a stopwatch app) before being ready for your next command. I found myself looking at the lights on the ROAV to see if it was woken up or not, which is very unsafe while you are driving. I finally got it to reply by saying “okay Google play some music” which is a command that is advertised on the box. After several tries she finally answered me with “okay what app would you like to use for that?” I said, Google Play Music……. and nothing. I got her to say that phrase twice and both times, nothing. I would assume that since this is marketed as a Google assistant that it would at least recognize Google Play Music as an app option, or perhaps even default to it?! Weird and very disappointing tech. Once I got it to pair, the unit did perform a self firmware update. This actually did nothing for me since I updated the firmware before I even tried it for the first time. I suppose it is “possible” a future firmware update could fix these issues? Maybe, maybe not. All in all I am very surprised that this was released as it is. Clearly this needs work before being ready for retail. Basically this is only an expensive car charger.

Cannot setup with Samsung Galaxy phones
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I spent the better part of an hour trying to get the device to setup. I tried three different Samsung phones: s10e, s9 and s8. All phones failed during the setup (after pairing successfully to the bluetooth) with an error button at the bottom stating only "Try Again". I was able to get the device setup with an Android tablet, so I know the device is working correctly. But no dice with any of the Galaxy S phones.

Will not connect to car radio with Bluetooth
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have a 2014 Audi A4 which has Bluetooth connectivity allowing me to make and receive phone calls through the audio system. However, if I want to do navigation, send texts or use the Google Assistant I have to do that through my android phone. The auxiliary connection in my car is located in the glove compartment so that any device that had to be connected would require a wire running from my glove compartment. Not ideal. So when I saw the ROAV Bolt which states that it can do all of those things through Bluetooth I couldn’t wait to try it out. Unfortunately it will not connect to my sound system thru Bluetooth, only through the 3.5 mm auxiliary connection. In addition, you must keep your radio on auxiliary, therefore not allowing you to listen to the radio. The only music you can listen to is what you stream from your phone. Now maybe, the Bluetooth issue is isolated to my car or only to certain makes and models. However, if this is the case then the manufacturer should list the makes and models it may not work with. One more problem is created by the design of the product. The 12 volt connection in my car is in a recessed area. The Bolt fits in but it is very difficult if not impossible to connect the auxiliary cable and USB cables. This forced me to place the Bolt in the center console, so that every time I would have to press a button I would have to lift up the console cover to access the buttons or to see the status lights. And the auxiliary cable would have to be very long. It seems to me that it is easier to just have your phone out of your pocket because you can summon the Google Assistant by voice, without having to touch your phone. And, if you have a newer car with Android Auto, this product is just not necessary. I am very disappointed in this product and cannot recommend it.

Can pair only with one phone !!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am big into Google ecosystem. I Love the product idea here. Audio quality and google assistant functionality is great and seamless. Keep in mind buying early is like an early adopter here. Big deal breaker for me is it can pair with only 1 phone (I am NOT talking about connecting to two phones at same time here). So when I drive my car and I pair to my phone. When my wife drives, there is no way my wife can use the Bolt with her phone, without having to reset Bolt to forget all previous pairings and go through whole pairing process again with my her phone. Impossible to use this device if two people use the car. Confirmed this by calling support as well. Roav, please fix this obvious flaw. I am hoping this is in a future firmware upgrade.

brings my car into the 21st century
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have a 2005 Honda Element and this Roav Bolt has made hands free a reality for me. It paired very easily with my Pixel 3 phone. I had the car running, plugged in the Bolt, inserted the aux port cable, searched for new devices under my BT settings & it walked me thru the entire process. it was seamless. examples of my commands "OG (ok google) what's tomorrows weather. OG play upbeat music OG call dad mobile OG add to my calendar OG set a reminder. OG play NPR. I love not having to touch my phone. It picks up my voice well even driving at higher speeds. It's a perfect fit for my older car!

Awesome Product!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really like this device. I've using it in conjunction with ankers wireless charging mount and it allows me to have Android Auto in my car without changing anything out. It starts up quick, like within 5 seconds of my car turning on and automatically connects. I use this with the Aux port, which works perfect! The Mics on this are also really good. Overall I'm very happy with this purchase. I have an older car which this works perfect in. I could see this not being needed in a newer car, but the Mics work well enough that I may use it in a newer car one day.

Google Home for the car
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Roav Bolt is a really cool gadget. Its the size of a regular phone car charger but it packs the Google Assistant inside. It has a better microphone than just using the Google Assistant on your phone. It works even with the phone screen off. I love the ability to check the weather, play music, make phone calls, check my calendar, send messages and control my smart home from my car by voice. My only issue is it sometimes has connectivity issues and I have to unplug and replug in to get it working again. Hopefully a firmware update will fix that.

Brought my 2010 Tacoma to the Cordless Era!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ROAV was the best money I've spent on phone accessories. I drive a 2010 Tacoma with only an Aux input. When I updated my iPhone to the new iPhone Xs max, I lost my headphone jack and ultimately the ability to listen to music and charge my phone at the same time. This was devastating because I spent a majority of my time driving through desolate New Mexico. The ROAV allows me to connect my phone to my car's audio via Bluetooth. It's a game changer. I've recommended this product to my small group of friends.

Wanted to like it
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was really excited about this product. I was looking forward to charging my phone and being able to use all the features. Unfortunately I was really disappointed....had a ridiculously hard time trying to pair it. It was totally unresponsive for the most part when it did pair. All in all it has become just a charger for me. With the new stereos that are out this is pretty much not needed. I thought it might have been great in our car that has a broken button on the steering wheel stereo controls but that's a no go since it doesn't work as well as it should. Easier to just reach over and push a button on the stereo than fight with this. Maybe with more time they will develop it better but for now save your money and skip it.

Quick response time
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I needed Google in my old 2003 Ford Focus and this basically gave me everything I need. I now can check my maps application without having to navigate through the murky water that is touching my screen with my finger. I also like that I can literally hop in my car and just let Googles' ears capture any soliloquy that may come its way, WITHOUT PHONE IN HAND.

Works Great...For Me
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I pre-ordered 2 of these, and had my fingers crossed that they would meet my expectations. I have two BMWs with finicky bluetooth, and these work great in both. Setup worked smoothly for the most part, with a small hiccup initially joining the devices to the phone (Pixel 3XL). After that, Google assistant setup was a breeze. The firmware was updated, and I was able to trigger Assistant as expected (with audio via aux). There were no issues with microphone pickup, and I was able to ask Google about my commute to work, driving on the highway, while streaming music. I didn't have to raise my voice, or repeat the trigger. Since this is a new device, and bluetooth at that (which is still a hit or miss solution for most people), I would view the overly negative and overly positive new reviews with a grain of salt until the product is more saturated in the market. There are a lot of variables involved with getting things like this to work for you (not always the product's fault), so approach it from that standpoint when looking into it before making a judgement. It works as advertised in all respects for me.

Surprisingly more useful than I thought
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As a Android phone user, I was thinking how useful this would be since I already use google assistance on my phone. All I have to do is saying "Ok google" and use it. However, it was annoying that sometimes my phone does not pick up or I need to at least turn on the screen to make it pickup my calls. With this Roav Bolt with Google Assistance, it is very sensitive to my call for "OK Google". It picks it up almost all the time. Also, if it doesn't, there is a button that I need to press for 0.5 sec to activate google hearing mode. Once that is done, it works exactly same as just using Google Assistant. Another good thing I like is that it can read off notifications and if it is messaging app, it can reply back with my voice. So far, it typed out my message back very accurately. This was very useful when I really need to reply back but I am driving, making my driving a lot more safer. I would definitely recommend this product for anyone who is used to using google assistance. It will make your life lot more easier than just using it on the phone.
