    Excellent large screen 1440p monitor

This is my second 1440p monitor having owned a Dell 27" that is about six years old now. It is also my first AOC monitor. I am blown away. As an avid PC and PS4 gamer, I debated moving up to 4K at this size but knew that would entail a serious GPU upgrade to nail the solid 75FPS/Hz marriage for smooth game play. So I decided to stay at 1440p. Out of the box the monitor is a little cool in coloring (green-blue hue) but not hospital glare bright out of the box like some are. Typical for a 250 cd/m² rated monitor. I have not calibrated it yet at all (I own a Datacolor Spyder5PRO) as I want to get fully informed on how it handles both the PS4 and PC. The big win was no dead pixels! If you are a PS4 gamer, this monitor scales at 1080p beautifully just like my Dell. If you are a PC gamer and have a relatively powerful Nvidia GPU like me (GTX 2070), locking in 75FPS/75Hz makes easy pickings of even the most GPU demanding games at max quality settings (I'm looking at you Deus Ex). No stuttering here. If you are moving up from a 1080p monitor, you will need more GPU horsepower to run this monitor at its capabilities. I'd say a minimum of a GTX 1070 or an AMD RX Vega 56 which of course can take advantage of the FreeSync. To give you an example of that, I previously ran GTX 970s in SLI to get some games at a solid 75FPS/75Hz with the Dell (overclocked from its native 60Hz). Back to the monitor itself, for the size, the stand leaves something to be desired. If you have a force feedback wheel on a desk, you may notice some wobbling with all the movement. It's minimal, but it is enough for me to look into a VESA mount kit. Those can be purchased (HumanCentric B074JSJSF3) for desk clamp type stands or VESA capable aftermarket footprint stands like the AmazonBasics LCD Monitor Riser. For office and desktop work as well as mouse and keyboard gaming however, the stand will be fine. There is some back light bleed and off center color/contrast shift when viewing from the side however which is surprising for a supposed pure IPS panel…I never have that problem with the Dell. But since this is only a gaming monitor for me in front of my face at a desk swapping between the PC and PS4, it's a non-issue. Oh and speaking of that, one thing I love about the monitor is that you have four different input options. I keep the PS4 connected via HDMI and the PC via Display Port. FYI you only get an HDMI and VGA cable which is rather disappointing. VGA is so 10-20 years ago and most of us have them laying around in junk drawers. Give us a DP cable! I will assume the potential buyer reading this review knows that you won’t get the full 2560x1440p resolution with VGA and if you go the DVI route, you need DVI-D. Finally, the display finish is medium-matte meaning it will reduce background lighting glare but doesn’t rob color and character clarity quality too much. I can’t say the same about the Dell. I find it an acceptable happy medium. All in all, the monitor met and exceeded my expectations so far having never experienced an AOC monitor before although I was familiar with the brand. Again, I have not calibrated the monitor but have no doubts based on a professional review and my initial experience is that it is an excellent performing monitor and an excellent value. Take it from someone who has bought probably 15 monitors since the late 1990s starting with Dell/Sony Trinitron CRTs: you won't be disappointed.

I didn’t even get a chance to hook these up since the back does not have anyway to mount it to a stand. Since I have dual monitors, mounted on a stand is the only way I can fit it on the desk so these had to go back. Seems like such a simple feature to not include it on any monitor.

Initial impressions were bad, using a DMI cable from a 980 ti video card. Black and White text had rainbow patterns mixed in, and it was difficult to read. The monitor comes with a HDMI cable and a VGA cable, but not a Display Port cable. My 980 ti doesn't have an HDMI output, so I had to buy a Display Port cable. Using the Display Port cable, the monitor looks quite good. Black and White text is sharp and crisp, with no added fringe colors. I get 75 Hz refresh rate, which wasn't possible using DMI. I downloaded the display driver from AOC's website, but Windows 10 said it wasn't certified or something, so I had to override Windows to install it. Good times. I have a few dead pixels in a short horizontal line, about the width of a character. The line is very thin though. I got this monitor at a very good price, so I will allow it. Dynamic range of colors and blacks seems better than my older monitor.

Great Value, geared for gaming, not editing

Was concerned about the quality I'd receive at the price but the quality is just fine. It's a really nice screen that has some sheen to it which I prefer to a matte screen finish. Reflections are not an issue. Gaming is great on it as the 2560 x 1440 screen size works well with my Gtx 1070. Just as many of the sites reviewing this model will tell you, you will have to tweak the color settings to your liking because they are just, well..off...,more so than any monitor I've owned. Its by no means a deal breaker *, and to me the simplest settings are to set the monitor to sRGB while surfing the net, and one of game modes while gaming. Its just a matter of a couple of push buttons and clicks * but to some they may not like to have to select the optimal setting for each venue they choose. For the price I paid, no complaints, the value is there, though some features are missing which to me did not matter. First of all, the stand does not have a height adjustment. Second, there is no way to mount it. Third it does not rotate. Again none of that mattered, but I can see why other monitors cost 100 or more than this model if they include those features. Bottom line. Solid monitor especially on sale.
