Does it's job without fanfare
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an UPS...it's quiet and supports the electronics I connect when the power goes down. Hard to argue with it.

Easy to use UPS
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an excellent unit. It's easy to set up and use. The documentation is straightforward. It's currently connected to a desktop computer, monitor, external hard drive, and printer. During one power failure, the unit functioned perfectly, allowing ample time to save and shut down the entire system.

Great value for home office protection
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Moved to a new home and experienced several power outages. The huge storms were easy to anticipate losing power, but the short outages are unpredictable and causing problems which caused the purchase. Out of the box easy set up. Cool feature that monitors my iMac for sleep/hibernate and turns off my printers when inactivity occurs - turns everything back on when the computer goes active. Program monitors and shows the power savings. Note: The software does not install on Apple. The UPS cleans the power (frequency and amplitude), will back up my specific load for 33 minutes, shuts down my devices properly when approaching battery limit, hot swap battery and saves energy too. Home office running iMac, notebook (runs APC software), HP All in One, HP laser, backup drive, network switch and IP phone. Highly recommended.

Great Battery Backup!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have always had the Cyberpower 1000+ Battery Backups in the past but after my last one died I wanted to try something new. The APC 1300 seemed like it would support my dual monitor, beefed up gaming PC well so took a chance on it. Setup was easy and there is a USB cable that will connect to your computer that offers a cool dashboard that tells you if you have had any blackout outages, if your ups has cutover to battery and even calculates your CO2 emissions saved etc. The only ciritcal feedback I would add is related to the APC website where you download the app for connectivity. Downloading the software was a little wonky, but that has nothing to do with the product itself really. Overall I am glad I got this and also glad I went with the 1300 vs the 1000 model.

Great but installing software ...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my third UPS from APC. It seems harder and harder to find the Powerchute Personal Edition software. Would be nice if it was included or mentioned in the documentation. It would also be nice if the instructions told you to remove the old software, add the new unit and then re-install the software. "Plug-N-PRAY" from Windows at it's best... Otherwise it is GREAT and performs like a champ!!! I really appreciate the slimmer model vs the previous model. I will continue to buy.

Very good product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was purchased with the intent of only using it for the new high-end HP desktop, networking gear and a 19" tube monitor but after all that was plugged in, found it was only using about 1/3 of the total capacity (750W max) and the status screen indicated that more could be added. Now two PC's, one monitor, networking gear, speakers, basically everything at my desk - that's a lot - is connected and it's still only around 1/2 the capacity. Keep in mind the "up to 140 minutes" is the absolutely best case with very little connected to it. The estimate with my gear shows 14 minutes, still more than enough time to safely power-down if needed. The display on the unit has multiple modes and is extremely helpful. Once the monitoring software is installed, there is a wealth of information as well, including a Self-Test option. Apparently it has a cooling fan, but rarely runs and very quiet when it does. Read reviews of other products which people said they were very loud so that was a factor in the decision process. The battery is very easy to access and would be user-replaceable with minimal effort. If the price seems a little steep, think of it as an investment in protecting your equipment and what it would cost to replace it. Factor in just how much you can connect to it and then the price tag is more justifiable. Very pleased with it.

Great worry-free device
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I needed a replacement for a non-USB backup power supply that was no longer working. This device was relatively inexpensive for its class. I was impressed how easy the setup was and the monitoring software was extremely intuitive. Since installation, I have noticed that it has taken over three times in 2 weeks (FL is known for its frequent storms and the power is not reliable at times) . I was pleased to see that it even took over when the outage was only 5 seconds. This sure helps with my router which does not handle short surges/outages very well.

Excellent Product, thus far
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just moved back to Florida, into a rental home, and lost power briefly on my second day back - no surprise; I also noticed some lights flickering when the vacuum was run, so I went out the next day and bought one of these. I choose the 1300 over the 1500 because I figured most FL brown-outs only last a second or two and if the power went out more than a couple minutes I would shut down/auto-shut down my computer anyway. Also, the claim of 140 minute run time is for a minimal system with virtually nothing connected to the UPS. I am using this to provide power to a 24" LCD, Power mac, External drive, Cable Modem, and an airport extreme and surge protection to a second 24" LCD, Drobo Pro, Printer, PogoPlug and a switch. As I said I dont expect more than 5-10 minutes protection, which I am fine with, but this will allow me to save work to server or locally and give me time to shut down if needed. My wife ran the vacuum cleaner yesterday and every time she turned it on the APC kicked in. The line voltage dropped to around 50VAC for a half second but the APC kept me running smooth. Obviously there is a wiring issue in this rental - which I notified the owner about - but I don't expect them to fix it while I am here. In the mean time, I feel I am protected with this unit. The unit looks GREAT, is easy to set up, has Mac/PC PowerChute (auto shutdown software) available and works flawlessly. As other reviewer stated, it belongs ON the desk and not under it - it looks that good. :-)

Good Device for the money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A word of warning to new buyers, this is a battery device and I would not put lots of stock in the battery times. I am running about 290 watts on a home theatre system and I get around 20 minutes. Really just enough time that if the main power does not come back on within a few minutes I can shut off the equipment. This will not help you finish the hour long TV show or continue working on a computer for hours. Secondly, you must fully charge the battery PRIOR to use. The instructions do not tell you this. Fully charge before you plug up any devices. Just plug it in the wall and turn the power OFF. Wait 24 hours. I failed to do this and the battery failed to re-charge the first time after a test. It was not a big issue, I just unplugged the unit then plugged it back into the wall and it fully charged in about 12 hours. Thirdly, I found the APC technical support to actually be helpful and easy to communicate with. The one thing to remember, these battery times are estimates at best. I would buy 3 time the wattage power you need to feel good about the unit. Finally, I got very lucky my TV worked with the unit. Most new TVs will not work because they need a "pure sinewave". A sinewave is the cycle that defines the AC frequency be it 50Hz or 60Hz.. Well this unit uses a "stepped sinewave" which is not exactly like the current coming out of your wall plug. I would suggest just simply trying it and if it does not power the TV on battery (the TV will just not come on during battery time) then return it. APC sells a "Smart UPS S series" line that will work and produces the "pure sinewave"

Very Nice UPS
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this UPS to replace an old Belkin unit that died and I've been extremely pleased with it. The screen offers a lot of neat information like voltage input, wattage draw, and estimated battery time remaining that, while perhaps isn't strictly necessary, it is still useful to have that info available (especially the time remaining). Aesthetically, this is probably the nicest looking UPS I've ever seen. Sure most people just stick their UPS under a desk and never look at it, but this one is sitting next to my desk and it looks great. Functionally it seems fine. Tested the battery backup via unplugging and the transition from line to battery was smooth without my display flickering or any abnormality on the PC. Tested USB connection and the automated shutdown and that was able to shutdown my PC successfully. Note that the master control power cutoff (which completely cuts power to secondary outlets when the power draw of the master outlet drops below a certain threshold) can be disabled - which is good. I'm not using that feature because I still want power going to all my secondary stuff when my PC is shutdown (e.g. because my modem takes a reeeeally long time to reset after a cold boot) - but I could see someone using it for something like a printer or speakers. So it seems like a really good UPS and it's cheaper (MSRP at least) than the model it's replacing (BR1300LCD)

Battery Backup System
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a very good battery backup system for the price. An additional feature that I was not aware of is this unit conditions the out going power so that your computer and accesseries are not subjected to fluctuations with the incoming power. The PowerChute software monitors your system and performs power tests to make sure everything is operating as it should. I would fully recommend this product.

Awesome battery back up
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.APC - Back-UPS XS 1300VA Tower UPS is a small but powerful battery backup. I use it mainly for providing my very expensive computer clean, stable power. This prevents and over or under current damaging my computer system.

Believe the warnings...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'd done some homework re: other APC/Cyber models before heading to BB, but after chatting with a sales guy about my setup, he recommended the 1300VA because of the amps. So no, I didn't read the reviews BEFORE getting this home. Gave it a go anyway, because it seemed to be pretty comprehensive, I liked the software, display, etc. -- but yeah, my Dell i7 just shut off in self-tests -- and yeah, the reason was that the power from the battery wasn't clean enough for Dell. Took it back and reduced the variables, got a quality surge protector with coax/ethernet, will deal with this again later -- life's too short :) If you don't have the Dell issue, I think this could be an excellent unit. I rated good-average based on how it seemed it would work if compatible.

APC 1300VA Battery Back-Up System
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off, I like the looks of the UPS. It's sharp and does the job I expect it to do at a reasonable price. It's used as a power back up for a relay system in wireless internet. I have one in my base tower box and in the relay and have had no problems with either of them.

For The Price - A Good Unit
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I own three of the APC 1300 units and am getting ready to purchase a fourth from my local BB. Two of my units are about one year old and have been working fine with no problems. My third unit developed an internal fault at about 8 months old. I got online and emailed APC telling them of my problem and giving them the fault code displayed on the front panel. Since I had registered my warranty with APC, within one day I received an email back from APC. They informed me that a new unit was on its way to me and giving my instructions on how to return the defective unit (after I had received my new one). Within four day, my new unit was here, I installed it, and it has been working fine ever since. Everone at APC, that I communicated with, was very nice and easy to get along with. If you register your unit with them, they do stand behind their warranty.

Loud, and expired
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This item was purchased on sale on the bestbuy website. It was shipped to store 4 days later and brought home, only to find out that the battery within was almost 2 years old and no good. Due to this, the internal cooling fan was extremely loud when under load. The replacement I received direct from APC also had a relatively loud fan. My recommendation is to go with the 1100va model if using for home office use, as that model is much quieter. Also, make sure the inspection date is within 6 months, to make sure the battery is still good.

Posted .Thank you for taking time to review our UPS. I am sorry to hear about the issues you faced with the unit. Unfortunately the larger units do have a fan for cooling purposes that will kick in when the load is higher or the unit on battery. If you have any other issues with the unit please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We would be happy to assist you further.

I have come to trust the product and the technical support that is behind the product. I use this product at home to power my server and it works great. I use other APC products to power my business needs. Overall I like the company very solid. The Customer Support is excellent, and brilliant in the way they handle their business.
