works so far
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I do not know much yet, but the unit has a nice dispaly. It is the largest and heaviest of about 10 UPS units I have had for the last 15 years. Most small ones do not last 10 years.

Works as advertized
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm running an Alienware system with a 1000 watt power supply, an external USB hard drive (in addition to the other 2 drives in the system) and a 26" LCD monitor. The information stated that a gaming system (which I consider this to be) should last about 20 minutes on battery. Instead, I'm closer to 11 minutes, which they advertise is applicable to an X-Box or a 40-some inch TV. Still, it works and gives my system enough time to shut down in a power failure. I also like the LCD display on the front that gives me the status on the incoming power, the battery life and the relative load on the UPS.

Does what it claims to do well
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There is nothing as pleasing as finding a product that does what it is supposed, does it well, and does not require a lot of set up. I am very pleased with this unit. It's quite and unobtrusive.

Protect your Media Equipment too!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanted to protect my multi-media equipment (53" LCD TV, DVR, Receiver, etc) from surges and also keep things running for those times the power goes out for 10 seconds but makes you wait for the DVR to re-boot. I have a whole house generator but it takes about 20 seconds to kick in. I plugged in the UPS, let it charge overnight, unplugged the powerstrip from the wall and plugged it into the UPS. According to the digital readout on the UPS with everything turned on (including the 200 watt receiver) I have around 50 minutes of runtime. I have used APC for years on my home equipment, workstations and servers at work and have always had good luck.

Tall and Silent
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Needed a unit that sits on the desktop - not enough room behind the desk. The APC 1300VA is a handsome unit, whose size accommodates the number of outlets I needed - including a couple of "bricks". Have already had one power spike in my home - the power dropped for one second, then returned, and the unit worked as designed - keeping my iMac and external hard drives operating. The displays are useful and informative, and light up only on demand. And the unit is dead silent.

Great UPS
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Does its job very well. Purchased this item to power a cable modem, router, NAS, & office PC in case of power outage. Nice features, looks sleek, and solid performance of "cleaning" AC line voltage. The only con I have is its rear plug spacing, for transformer mounted plugs, but that can be resolved with very small extensions.

Great UPS!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this UPS to replace a Belkin unit that could not be monitored by my Windows Home Server machine. This one works great with Windows Home Server (using Grid Junction), and the load/runtime/condition display is quite handy to see how much power you're actually using. While I'm not using the load-controlled outlets for my server, I'm considering another unit to use on my desktop machine where I could plug the display and peripherals into the load-controlled outlets for additional power savings. The unit seems to run cooler than the Belkin unit (with AVR) it replaced, and the size and shape looks great too.

It's working...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product worked for 3 days and then stopped. We called APC and they say it had a system failure, it even turn off and wouldn't turn back on. I decided to leave it charging overnight without any equipment connected on the output connections and the next day started working when I turn it on!. So far is still working. I read the entire manual before installation and it doesn't say anything about charging the battery overnight or until fully charged before connecting any equipments to it, but it worked for me.

Peace of mind!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I live in the " Burbs " and over the past several months have experienced 5-6 brown-outs per day. ( I have already had 2 power supplies fried on my new $2,500.00 computer) I have the Geek Squad Protection Plan, so there was no problem in getting them replaced. Hopefully this will rectify the problem and give me peaceful nights.

Looks like a beauty queen yet works like a horse
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Replaced a CyberPower that was ugly; wires all coming out the top. It had to be hidden behind a 500 pound oak desk making it extremely difficult to deal with. The APC looks like a little desktop computer and fits under the desk right at my feet. The wires are all in the back and cannot even be seen. Best of all, I can now push the heavy oak desk back against the wall like it should have been all along. Thanks APC!!

The Standard in Battery Backups
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Plug and Play for the most part. Works seamlessly with Apple products. I have had several different backups over the years and have a 1500 and 1300 APC currently. Sometimes out of the box these batteries are old. Battery Plus has replacement batteries if you ever need them.

Known Incompatibilities - but no warnings...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This unit is a replacement for a smaller and older competing model I've owned for years. I bought it based entirely on the good reviews here and it's attractive features. 780W, slim design, Green features, plenty of outlets - very nice package and price. But guess what? a) You're not allowed to put a surge protector between your device and the Back-Ups (OK, I guess) b) You're not allowed to put an extension cord between your device and the Back-Ups (huh?) c) You'd better try and figure out if your computer (yes, your computer) is compatible. I have a high end workstation - big national brand with four letters in its name. Apparently this PC's power supply doesn't tolerate "dirty" power - and by their own admission - APC says this Back-Ups battery power is dirty. (Nice feature for a back up system) Forget the chat line. Useless. Forget pre-sales technical support. Won't talk to you without an exact APC model number and serial number. So, here's the deal. All batteries produce DC current. In order to convert that to AC you need something called a rectifier. The rectifier in this Back-Ups produces an AC signal that is described as a "Stepped Approximation to a Sine Wave." Meaning it produces a bunch of little (digital) square waves to try and approximate (fake) a smooth sine wave. The degree of smoothness determines the "cleanliness" of the power. So what? So I prepared to run a self test once I got everything running and the battery fully charged. I liked the PowerChute software-it told me my load was 325W v. the 780W capacity of the Back-Ups. Plenty of room to spare. Hit go, and the PC's power was interrupted causing it to crash. Didn't expect that. Did a test with just a lamp. Worked fine. Tried the PC twice again with smaller loads - same result. Called to see what give's and was finally told, after much non-sense that certain ****-brand coomputers had power supplies that were intolerant to dirty power and that APC was researching the problem (these computer models are top of the line and their latest and greatest). I was offered the opportunity to buy a Smart-Ups for hundreds more. No thanks. Customer service was awful. A real surprise for a company with an otherwise good reputation. My beef is I'm supposed to know that their "Stepped Approximated Sine Wave" is incompatible with my computer. Right. Show me the wave form and maybe I'll figure that out on my own. Face it, they use an el cheapo rectifier. Only the most critical component in that system, next to the battery. No thanks. Even if your computer tolerates this AC signal I cannot, for a moment, believe it's good for your power supply. As Elmer would have said, "Be verwee, verwee carefuul." Hopefully Best Buy will take this back - APC said I couldn't ship it back to them. Really? Wow! Really.

Nice Display
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a good unit. I bought two of them for my home theater equipment. They are performing fine and handle the high inrush current when the amps turn on. The display is easy to read and provides useful information (volts in/out, load, etc.).

Horrible in a long line of Horrible
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Over the years I have dealt with probably hundreds of APC UPSes at my workplaces and except for the high end enterprise Backups that I used in the Navy that cost thousands of dollars, I have yet to have one work the first time straight out of the box. Today was no exception. I picked up the BX1300g at the closest BB (a 70 mile drive) and brought it home, flipped the battery, plugged it in and nothing! So now I get to make a 140 mile round trip tomorrow. The last time I bought one of these smaller home models it took three trips before I got one that worked and now after two years the battery is toast and APC would not sell me a replacement battery. I would have said never again a long time ago, however APC is practically the only brand left in brick and mortar stores. The only thing crazier than buying another APC from Best Buy would be buying any brand of UPS from an online retailer since trying to ship anything with a battery back by USPS or FedEx can now get you in trouble with the law.
