Such a beautiful display! I got the 3.5ghz version with the 1TB Fusion Drive here at bestbuy because it was cheaper than at Apple or elsewhere. Overall the computer runs very smooth and cool, even after an hour of browsing the web with the screen at almost max and a ton of background apps open, music playing etc. the computer is absolutely stone cold to the touch like its on sleep mode! I'm upgrading from the 2011 iMac 21" so it's a huge contrast. That sucker runs HOT! I don't use this computer for any type of photo editing or gaming really just word processing, music Internet/browsing and a movie or two. This computer has fulfilled all of my expectations and then some! :)

About 20 years ago I had an iMac, I loved it. It was lost in a large house fire my wife and I suffered. Thankfully, after that 20 year span, I am back!! I have suffered through windows repeated "updates" to their operating system and alway swore I was going back to mac. I love it!! Took a while to get used to the small differences like the close and minimize buttons being in the upper left hand corner. I also purchased the magic touchpad. This is highly recommended!! Once you learn all the gestures you will regret ever using a mouse. It does come with a mouse and it is a very nice touch style mouse, I am just so used to touch devices and gestures. I do a lot of photo and video editing and this thing is a dream!! It is sleek and stylish. My brother kept asking me where the rest of my computer is?? The display is amazing. I look so forward every day to getting home and firing this thing up.....and oh yes, I am writing this on my mac! Don't even get me started on the whole continuity with my iPhone 6. I can send emails and web pages back and forth from phone to mac and can also make and take calls from my mac. It will also tap into my iPhone for wifi if my network goes down!! Genius! If you are a mac fan and looking for an awesome desktop, this is your machine!!! You will love it. Oh yeah I almost forgot!! New iOS coming soon this fall with many updates. The new iTunes music is already out and It is so much better than the old iTunes, I used iTunes on my phone and was not a fan. I do love it now.

This is a beautiful iMac. I love the way it looks. The Retina display makes the movies I watch come to life. I'm ecstatic about the speed and ease that it runs my programs (Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro). I'm looking forward to making great movies and music with this new powerful new computer!

When I first saw the 27 inch 5K iMac, I realized how great it would be to post process my photos on it. I had considered moving to Apple because of my disappointment with Windows, and all it took to win me over was the awesome 27 inch display that was so clear it hurt my eyes.

I had been debating on switching from a PC to an iMac for a few years now. This is by far the easiest computer I've ever used. The learning curve isn't as bad as I thought it would be and the setup was so much easier than when getting a PC. I highly recommend!

The moment after setting up and seeing the desktop for the first time, I literally forgot to breathe for about 5 seconds. That says something about how amazing this display is. Even though we've all seen retina displays before on the phones and computers, this is simply not on the same scale: being about to see some many pixels on one panel. I used to be a PC supremacist, talking specs here specs there. But if we compare a regular PC all in one to the iMac with retina display, you simply can't compare the color correctness, the contrast (How black the black is, how white the white is), the pixel density. And being the first commercially available 5k panel, it's worth it to get the display for 2499, let alone they decide to throw in a powerful computer in there as well. Believe me when I said there is nothing else like this, because there really isn't anything like this out there.

Love this computer; bright crisp screen, fast startup, easy set up. It did not have all the startup programs preloaded as advertised, but a call to Apple support resolved that issue and they loaded me up over the internet. This machine has brought my wife over to the Apple side of the force as she nows plays with Garage Band and her WACOM drawing tablet. I've just started sorting through my thousands of photos and can't believe how big and beautiful they look on the Retina 5k. This is a big computer - width and hight wise - but still on the thin side so we got a nice new computer desk to hold it and to blend in with our other furniture, so size is a factor. Performance is excellent, speed is good, the screen is big enough to work from several windows at once and the memory is enough for every task I have for it now. If I need to I can easily upgrade the memory later. I also bought a small external LG disc drive to handle importing data and music.

If you can swing it, do yourself a favor and buy the retina 5k iMac. You will not want to go back to any other computer. You get a lot for your money, as comparable 5k displays alone cost as much, and don't include a computer. The display is amazing. The colors are deep, rich and accurate. I cannot say much more - you just have to see it and compare it with other displays. The sound is way better than I expected from an all-in-one - deep and full, not tinny at all. FYI - you can also plug a digital audio cable into the headphone jack and get full surround if you have external speakers or surround headphones. The fusion drive makes a huge speed difference vs standard hard drives (see Mac Mini), though not quite as quick as an actual solid state drive at some tasks. The 3.5Ghz quad-core i5 processor is more than adequate for just about anything you can throw at it. Mild-to-moderate gaming can be had, though more avid gamers know Macs are not ideal gaming rigs. You should be able to achieve 30+ FPS with no problem playing most recent games at medium or high settings. This makes an awesome media center or workstation. Craftsmanship of the hardware is top-notch, as you would expect from Apple. Upgradeability is limited to RAM, so make sure it's what you want when you buy it. Memory is very easy to install though. The included keyboard and mouse are nice. I especially love that you can use swipe gestures with the mouse. I would personally choose the full-sized wired keyboard over the wireless keyboard if I had the choice, but that can be purchased separately for ~$50 if need be. The wireless keyboard is good for most uses, but doesn't have a number pad. You can spend the same amount, or less and get a PC that technically has better processor specs or video card, but it won't have a retina display or an Apple logo. If you already own Apple devices or are wanting to see what all of the fuss is about, the retina iMac will bring you into the Apple fold with open arms.

This is a great machine and with the lower price it is now at a great price. I purchased this for my parents and they love it. I've read that some people was seeing graphic slowdown/choppy graphics. I haven't seen that and assume it was corrected in an update before I purchased this unit. My only issue was the 8GB ram, I feel that is a little low for this unit. Wasn't a big deal as I bought more with my purchase and installed it myself in no time.

The newest iMac is a true thing of beauty. The screen is awesome, movies and games look great on it, and it runs so fast. The fusion drive makes boot up less than 20 seconds, and will make most other computers seem unbearable by comparison. I can boot up and read my email in the length of time my laptop takes just to load the Windows log in page. The only knock I would say on it is the common complaint with all Apple computers; they lack simple upgrade ability. With this iMac, the only user upgrade that can be reasonably done is the RAM. Otherwise, everything else is what it is for the life of the unit. So for gamers that need to upgrade a graphics card every few years to keep up with the market then this wouldn't be a good purchase, unless you're okay with the idea of selling this to get a new model when that time comes around.

Is it expensive? Yes. Is the value there? Absolutely. Now, keep in mind I'm no gamer or video editor, so what I found valuable was the screen size and resolution, not the GPU. Having said that, the power present in this machine is more than enough for everything up to modest gaming. Furthermore, even the most basic tasks are more pleasurable on this monolithic screen. Sorry, I'll stop gushing :P Basically, if you are looking for a reliable computer that will serve as a great media consumption device, this is an expensive but very worthy option. TL;DR -> If you wait for a good sale/student or employee discount, REALLY take a look at this monster!

What a powerhouse computer, even if its not top spec. Can't go wrong with this one. Got it on sale for $2099.99. What a fast, future proof, can't go wrong with this one. Love the resolution. If your on the fence between a regular IMac and a 5K IMac, take a look side by side. This is the top tier IMac 5k offered right now in stock configuration and I was initially bummed I didn't get it through apple with some upgrades. Clearly, I dont need the i7 as the i5 is a powerhouse on its own. Love the Fusion drive, so if you're looking at a lower sped with a regular hard drive, upgrade to a fusion drive at the very least. Cant go wrong. Its so sleek, thin (when looking at it from the side) and just rocks. Cant say more good things. Got the Time Capsule as well, even though everyone complains, its become apparent they clearly dont know what they're doing. Cant go wrong,

    We upgraded from a 2012 Mac Mini 2.5GHz i5

We upgraded from a 2012 Mac Mini with a Core i5 @ 2.5GHz. The difference is night and day. The display is huge and beautiful. The space this machine takes up on the desk is on par with the Mac Mini and it's monitor. The drive is a 1TB fusion drive. For those that don't know what a Fusion drive is it is a 128GB SSD and a 1TB drive installed in the computer. Software in OS X treats it like one drive. It is a big step up from 500GB 5400 RPM. This iMac has a graphics chip in it. It has improved our usage of the machine to play games and work with iMovie. Overall we are very impressed with this machine. I would buy another one just like this if I was in the market for it.

There is very little to say about this computer that is bad. The screen is huge, the resolution is fantastic, and the computer itself is a hotrod. I will do my best to keep the review limited to the computer and not the OS. Here are some of the highpoints in random off-the-top-of-my-head order: * Cold boots in ~20 seconds. * Bluetooth keyboard & mouse connect quickly & seamlessly * Excellent tactile reactions/feeling from the keyboard (although I prefer the extended/corded keyboard) * The mouse feels great and works like a charm - although I am torn about the whole rechargeable vs removable battery (this has a removable) * Screen is huge, bright, sharp & very responsive. Text is crisp. They boast of all sorts of color palette enhancements, but to my untrained eye everything simply looked nice. (neither more nor less "realistic" than before) With the absence of any real 4k (or 5k) content, it is hard to comment further on this. * The desktop wallpapers that come with it are great, but don't seem to be 5k resolution images. * The absence of bass that one would expect from an all-in-one form factor is normal, however this computer does have surprisingly good sound. * 8GB RAM comes in 2 x 4GB sticks (as opposed to 4 x 2GB sticks) - which easily allows me to up the RAM since there are 2 vacant RAM slots. Apparently this model can go up to 64GB (if I really want to get crazy) - which is double what the newer model can. Or course this makes me smile. Suggestion would be to get a base amount of RAM and upgrade it yourself. Get good RAM. The cheaper models (smaller screens I think) do not have removable RAM from what I hear. * The RAM cover release button is hard to push. You have to remove the power cord to find it, then be prepared to have something long, thin & strong (a chopstick...?) to push. Hard. * Whisper-quiet operation * I was dismayed to find out that this screen is glued in place as opposed to held in place by magnets (as in previous models). This lack of user-accessibility caused me to get the 3-year warranty - although I am a bit concerned thereafter (I am planning on using this beast at least 3-5 years beyond this warranteed period) * Integrated SD reader, but no CD/DVD/Blu Ray drive (external USB-based unit must be purchased separately) * 4 x USB 3.0 ports * 2 x Thunderbolt ports I haven't tested the USB 3.0 ports to their potential nor have I tried the thunderbolt stuff. (cables sold separately of course) From an OS standpoint, there is a stark contrast between getting this up and running as opposed to installing/getting my Windows 10 virtual machine/client up and running. But I digress... Al in all, up to this point this has proven itself to be more than a fine machine, and an excellent buy.

I purchased this beautiful machine to replace my old PC. I'll never go back to a PC and can't believe I waited so long to switch. The 5K display is simply spectacular. It's huge too. You will probably want to change the view to 200% when running your typical MS Office Suite programs because they will be pretty small because of the resolution of this screen. Photoshop, Lightroom, Movies, Powerpoint.... All amazingly smooth, fast, and crystal clear. I cannot say enough about this awesome computer.

We replaced our aging Windows Laptop with the new Retina iMac 5k 27" screen and this was the best decision ever! Mac is so easy to use plus we already have experience having owned other iOS devices. The machine is super fast with the fusion drive and the 3.5ghz quad core CPU. This will last us a long time with the ability to upgrade the components yourself. The screen has so much real estate to be able to open up multiple windows at the same time. Highly reccommended!

I resisted the urge to be an apple convert long enough. I've spent many years building my own PC's and have never been happy with the results...the moment I unboxed the iMac, I was impressed. As with anything Apple, it has a minimalist appearance yet is anything but. Plug it in and your ready to go; setup is pretty intuitive....I know very little about working with the iOS being a PC and android user, I'm not familiar with the apps or navigating the system in general. I found it relatively easy to pick it up. The display is incredible putting myHDTV to shame. I use the computer primarily for web surfing, productivity apps, garageband, and streaming video. iMovie is pretty sweet too, if you are interested in converting old family videos into something more artistic. The computer is also remarkably quiet relative to its PC counterpart...you don't even know it's on if you shut your eyes. I really like the ability to tie in all of our Apple devices from my kid's iPhones, iPods, ipads, and Apple TV. I give up....Apple's got me hooked; I'll be trading in my droid for an iPhone soon.
