Wanted to love this item, but can't. Returned and bought a My Cloud Home Duo. I kept losing connection and time machine would not back up automatically. I had to disconnect and reconnect several times to get it to work. Router option is nice, but not needed and signal could be stronger. By a separate router and cloud.

If you use all Apple products, you need this.

If you're all wrapped up in the Apple ecosystem, then this is for you. It works seamlessly with all your apple devices, never causes unwanted issues, and always preforms. I've had mine for almost a year and it out-performs ANY router and backup device I've ever tried. Well worth the money. Plus, it's pretty to look at if you have it as a stand-alone device in the center of your home or office.

    Typically good product by Apple

I purchased the Airport Time Capsule for two reasons: (1) I needed a new external back-up device for my computer after Iomega stopped supporting my "old" external drive with software updates after it was discontinued, and I wanted a wireless option; and (2) I wanted a better Wi-Fi router, since the new cable modem with built-in Wi-Fi provided to me by Comcast really did not work well at all, especially for streaming. The Apple Time Capsule works excellently on both counts. The set-up was easy to do back-ups with both our household Macs, and the Wi-Fi is great - reaches all corners of our house, the basement, etc., and streaming is smooth as pie on our Apple TV device or on the computers. The back-ups happen seamlessly in the background whenever your computer is on. I even had a chance to have to recover a file from a back-up version on the Time Capsule (due to corruption), and was able to do it no problem - it was intuitive. I would highly recommend it. PS - if you have a Comcast modem with built-in Wi-Fi and you want to use this instead for the router, just call Comcast tech support and they can remotely turn the Wi-Fi off on your modem so that you can plug in the Time Capsule with an Ethernet cable. Simple.

I have the router up and running, and it works great. However there are a couple of gotchas in there. Firstly be careful if you're with Comcast. You must set the local address to be the one beginning with 192.168.... - the default value is 10.0..... and Comcast doesn't like that. As soon as I changed that it connected perfectly. The other one is setting the time limitations for the kids. I was using Mountain Lion to attempt this and the numbers were just not taking. I couldn't even tab out of the fields without them changing back to their default values. Applecare suggested I try it with my iPad Air, running ios7, and it worked first time. It also worked perfectly on my MacBook Air running Mavericks, so I guess it's a Mountain Lion issue and not a fault of the router, but it took me a little while to figure that out, so I'm posting this in the hope of helping others. Apart from that everything works great.

You let me buy this knowing it was dated and doesn’t do what I need to do. Crazy device that does hold all my pictures only to 2 t and then what. Very confusing. Waste of $$$

It's like another iCloud. Doesn't just save my pics and documents. If I need anything from it I have to reformat my entire iphone or use a backup device to restore everything. That's a lot of work if I lose a single item

I have used many wireless routers and this one is so easy to setup and configure, no other WiFi router can compare. The AC wireless speed on my apples devices is amazing. I can download 50+MB sec off my DSL. The storage is amazing and also very easy to setup.

Finally a router that can handle it all

This is my 3rd router this yr. So disappointed in the other slow download times. I bought this router and was thrilled until it stopped working fast. I was told my 3 yr old modem from comcast was too old to keep up with the speed of the router. So I went to comcast and replaced it. It is amazing on all devices in my home. The wifi travels to each device instead of an area. It is so fast that sometimes I think the page shows up before I click the button. If you want to stop waisting time online for pages to appear this is the best router yet. I bought this to save all my files and payroll for my company so it gives me peace of mind and time to enjoy other things.

I am not happy with this product at all. Instructions that come with it are of no use. I had to YouTube in order to be able to work it and even them it tooke forever. I recommend to just stick to other products.

Wish I hadn't waited so long to purchase

First off let me just say if you are considering this, BUY IT! My only regret is I hadn't waited so long. Kept waiting for it to go on sale, then when it was on sale I was still hesitant to spend $279 on a wireless router. With some gift cards though, I managed to minimize the damage to my account. It is WORTH EVERY PENNY. Our brand new Comcast wireless router would only provide shady connection strength at best if I was anywhere but in the same room as the router. With the Apple Airport Time Capsule, we can connect halfway down the street (not kidding). I even ran a speed test and my download speed more than doubled. Setup was easy, and I feel much better knowing my iMac and my family's iphones are now backed up. Overall - just really impressed with this item. The jump in Wi-Fi quality itself is worth the money to me; the added storage is just a bonus.

    Excellent product

As one would expect, the Time Capsule plays very nicely with the other Macbook products that I own. I live in a small apartment, so I cannot comment on wireless range for a large household. Within my apartment, I have excellent coverage throughout, with absolutely no dropped service or other issues. This is definitely a step up from my previous router. The backup process is fantastic. I have great piece of mind knowing that my laptops are backed up hourly in case something happens. It is too bad that the backup won't work on PCs as well, but it is a limitation that I can live with. Best buy shipped the item much faster than they said they would, so that was a great added bonus.
