Apple products do so much with our your input it is sometimes difficult to know if it's working. Takes a while to do the first backup. Plan to back up multiple devices

I had high hopes for this product due to issues i am having with wireless backups and storage. I have att uverse in my home and a network attached storage device. the storage device has issues backing or copying large files due to inconsistent wireless performance.(when backing up the mac, the process takes days for initial backup, then after about two weeks of flawless time machine backups, you are informed the backup is corrupted and needs to be done again, and this 4 day long process starts over. when accessing the company file from quickbooks on several occasions the drive crashed because the file directory needed to be rebuilt. Tech support from seagate has been great helping me with this!) this device has its own wireless network built in and was extremely easy to set up on my mac. 1. HOWEVER, you cannot copy files to it. you can only copy them to your mac or pc and then they will transfer when you back up. 2. it is not compatible with windows xp. I believe it needs windows 7 or newer. and then still only backup. This is important if you are working with a file like quickbooks and want to use this device to protect it. while if you use windows 7 or newer you can actually backup the file, you cannot simply store the company file when finished using it. this is a problem because the restore process is lengthy in a program like quickbooks. so i learned a lot more than I ever wanted to know about wireless networks, Network attached storage, and time capsule.
