Great portable component, not a laptop replacement

The battle is ongoing. First it was the Galaxy product and now the battle ensues between Microsoft's Surface and the iPad. What I like about it: This iteration offers speed, portability, crisp screen resolution, great sound. The edge goes to Apple with its extensive iTunes and App Store. It's about the apps. Seriously, what good is a tablet if you have nothing to do with it. There are so many powerful apps available exclusively to iPad that make it worth the investment. No other brand comes close. There is as of yet, no viable iPad killer. Why this model? For me, as one who has a laptop and desktop, this 16gb is the perfect size for me. I'm not storing any videos as I stream most of my videos from Comcast Xfinity On Demand (there's an app for that) and Amazon Prime (there's an app for that). There is also an app for Netflix and Hulu streaming. Moving on to music, iTunes allows you to listen to your music in the iTunes cloud without storing the music and taking up valuable storage space on your device. As a student, I downloaded productivity apps, education apps, magazines, books, games, word processing apps, spreadsheet apps, presentation apps. Pages, Keynote, and Numbers can read and be saved as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel and they are available free with the device. If you save documents in iCloud, then you don't waste storage space on documents. While 16gb can fill up fast, if you're using this to replace your laptop, you may get discouraged at the limited memory size. That being said, the memory goes far. This model has less memory per dollar than its counterparts, but unless you're using it to download and store lots of video and music, this should not be a problem. I maxed out every slot with apps and still had room to spare. Honestly, I don't use half of the apps that I download regularly, so if I need space I can remove apps temporarily for space and redownload when ready. Who would need more space? The user who plans to use iPhoto in a high capacity RAW images. If you're planning on saving large amounts of video, photos, spreadsheets exclusively to the iPad, then you definitely need more storage. What I love about iCloud is that you don't have to download your video, photos, spreadsheets to the device to be able to work on them, and you can remove items from the device without permanent deletion. At one point, I would insist upon the 32 or 64 but with the iCloud technology it is no longer a pressing issue. Siri, the voice-activated personal assistant is also included. Siri has proven more useful than times past. I like the ability to speak to my iPad and have reminders set, music or video played, or applications opened. The biggest competition will be the iPad mini with Retina display, but size is personal preference.

    Outstanding product for elderly

I bought this as a gift for my mother who's almost 80 years of age. Her husband has a 4th generation iPad with a bulky case on it and it's on the heavy side. For the younger person, the 4th generation may not feel heavy, but for a lot of seniors, holding and carrying a couple of pounds (4th gen with case) can be taxing. At just 1 pound, the iPad Air feels like you're holding a popcorn ball. Since my stepfather has a monopoly on the 4th generation, I bought my mother the iPad Air so she doesn't have to climb the stairs to go to her desktop computer each time she wants to look something up on the net or to check her email. She loves it, and was really surprised by how light it is. It has superb WiFi range and speed, and 16GB is more than enough storage for a senior citizen. We also set up the iMessage app for her so she can get text messages on her iPad. She loves that because she has an antiquated cell phone with a small screen that doesn't display photographs very well. Pictures of her grandchildren come in beautifully on the iPad Air! My mother is extremely happy with the iPad Air and uses it daily and I'm thrilled that she's getting so much usage out of it. If you have a loved one that you're struggling to find the perfect gift for, pick up the iPad Air for them. You'll both be happy you did so.

It does what it advetised but, my Samsung Tab3 is more functional, easier to use and MUCH less expensive. I don't use the I pad air any more, Tab3 blows it away.

    Great iPad Value

I decided on the iPad Air over the iPad Air 2 because it was a much better value. The Air 2 has a faster processor but really does not provide much benefit yet for basic activities such as checking e-mail, web surfing, basic apps, etc. I decided to save the money and go for the iPad Air. The Air is plenty fast and the retina screen is great with crystal clear text and images. This is definitely one of the best tablets currently on the market.

Nice Upgrade To the iPad line

I just upgraded to the iPad Air from the iPad 2. I was looking for something a bit lighter, easier to hold and something with the retina display. The iPad Air has delivered. The size and weight are exactly what they should have always been. It is easy to hold with one hand and read. The thinner edges makes the device feel very different and are a great addition. The best thing about eh device is the retina display. The display looks absolutely amazing. Also, it is extremely quick. The A7 chip is very nice. Great device from Apple.

    Great Tablet For Beginners

When I purchased in- store, I also purchased the Zagg smudge proof screen saver. Geek squad put it on for me for $15. That insured that it wouldn't bubble. I wouldn't have been able to do that on my own. My iPad Air came with 100% battery life. It was very simple to set up, since I am not that literate when it comes to computers, smart phones, electronics in general. I did have to call my 15 year old son, who was away on vacation to help me with a couple questions. It was that simple, that a 15 year old could help me over the phone. I also purchased a one year warranty to protect any damage issues, such as dropping it, spilling something on it, etc. this tablet is so easy to use and is super fast, clear screen, great size, and I highly recommend this. Love my new iPad Air!

Ok I was reluctant to spend $500 on a tablet but Best Buy has it on sale for $449 so that was a major plus. I saved $50 off the bat (that covers the cost of the Smart Cover which is 39). I considered the Kindle Fire and the Google Nexus but when it really came down to it, all I wanted was this tablet. Yes it is pricey but you pay for what you get & what you want. The screen is great. Sound quality is top notch. I have a iPhone so it was very easy to set up. Lightening fast. Wide selection of apps to choose from. So if you are on the fence about this device--purchase it. You won't regret it.

Should have got an android based tab. Apple is no where near as capable as the Galaxy or LG Tabs and way slower. You can't even upgrade the space without buying a whole new one on the Apple. The android tabs have memory slots so you can upgrade for much less cost. Apple is a monopoly.

Bought this to complement my iPad Mini, but it's quickly become even more essential to my independent writing business. Awesome screen size, but lightweight and easily mobile. Totally intuitive, even for a non-tech person like myself. I'm addicted to it!

    Great iPad, Apple's best yet

This is my fourth iPad and I'm loving it. I started with the iPad 2, but as time went on I felt like I needed something faster. Enter the fourth gen iPad. While I loved the speed and retina screen, I hated the extra weight that was added to the unit. I then tried out the iPad mini. The iPad mini was great as far as size and weight, but again I wanted something faster. I debated between the iPad Air and the mini retina, but after holding both in hand the air just felt better. I couldn't be happier with my selection......that is until the next iPad releases.

I typically purchase Apple products once the new model is announce and the previous model starts coming down in price. This strategy has served me well and this was no exception. Light and fast, I am glad to have upgraded.

Ok I am 14 ok and I know technology well. I am not some old persom impressed by every touchscreen migiger. It takes quite a bit to impress me and I love this like its my own. Its very fast amazing screen and beautiful design. But it does not feel as solid as the other ipads but this definetily off the scale. I love it so much and great quality, and people think it is so cool when u say u have an ipad air. I have the white one though, I would prefer it way more than the black one disign wise.
