Had this iPad for a few years now, just traded it in for a gift card. For this one specifically, don't buy it, it won't take the latest OS and many apps just won't work on it.

Excellent Product, but do you need 3G?

I bought an iPad with some reservation...do I really need this thing in my life? After spending 3 weeks with it, I can say undeniably that this is more than a gimmick product, or a frivolous splurge. This is the beginning of something amazing. Now, I really can't imagine life without it.
The 9.7 in. display is mesmerizing, the boot-up time is instantaneous, the apps are great, and the browser speed (provided you have a good connection) will blow your mind. Having a fully-functional browser is what really stands this apart for me. Oh, and the battery life is unbelievable. With 'regular' usage, you're probably only gonna need a charge every 2 or 3 days. But then again, what's regular?
The negatives of this model are well-documented elsewhere, but to re-iterate:
- Price: Don't get 3G if you don't absolutely need it. I use my iPad in cyber cafes and at home. There have been only a few times where 3G connection would've been nice, but not enough to warrant the extra $120 you have to fork over. Although, I will say that the AT&T 3G cost is fair and non-exclusive. Don't think you're getting roped into some kind of contract: You purchase bandwidth usage in bulk and use it until you run out. Again, I haven't had to use 3G yet, so buyer beware.
- Not Flash compatible (which only means you can't go to some sites that are Flash-intensive). I have to say, this hasn't been a huge issue for me.
- No cameras: The new model coming out next year will have these, so if you really need a camera, hold out...although the newer model has a smaller screen size too (which is a no-no for me)
- Only one application at a time: This is the only pain in the rear for me. You can't open the browser, then minimize the browser to open up another application...or perhaps use Skype to talk to a friend while playing a game. Although, I have to say this isn't a huge issue either.
All in all, an amazing product with a very bright future. I honestly see the world of technology being changed forever because of this beauty...no joke.
The iPad has made me seriously reconsider my lifelong loyalty to PC-based computers. I'm overdue for a new desktop, and it will definitely be a Mac.
No hesitations on this recommending this product. Just make sure 3G is what you really need!

This is my first Apple product and I love it. It is so easy to use and the WiFi works great and it is so fast. The screen is so sharpe that if you rent movies it looks like HD even if the movie is not. Netflix works great. Internet use is easy and sending email is just like a computer. I have down loaded movies from my DVD collection for travel and each movie took less then 1gb space so I have 12 on it and it stills has 17gb free. The 3g network is good and will come in handy at times and the best point is you don't have a contract and can cancel and signup any time you want. Apps is the best feature and there are a couple 100,000 of them if you can't find one to use you'll never find one. I would buy a 2nd one for my wife but I'll share. This is the future and I can't wait to see what happens in the next 10 years and for info I'm 62.

Loved the iPad so much I exchanged the WiFi for 3G

I loved the iPad Wi-Fi so much that I exchanged it for the 3G version when it came out.
At first I was convinced that I wouldn't use it much outside of the house and therefore didn't need 3G-- but boy was I wrong. Once you start using the iPad-- it's hard to put it down. I almost don't even like using my iPhone anymore for internet/email/apps because I'd rather look at it on the 'big screen'.
I've used the iPad for travel, school--- while waiting for hours on end at the DMV. I purchased the $29 dock and already had a bluetooth apple keyboard. I can use it to respond to emails, review PDFs, PowerPoint, sync with MS Exchange, listen to music, watch netflix, read the WSJ, check Facebook--- all in the same device. It's like the 'magical book' that fell out of the sky. I have no buyer's remorse.
It is NOT a laptop replacement- and was never advertised as such. If you need to be typing long documents or graphic design on the road-- stick with your laptop, but if you know you won't need much past internet, email, and short letters--- the iPad is about 5lbs lighter and much easier to travel with.-- Worst case scenario when travelling-- most hotels have business centers- so if an emergency comes up- you can always use one of their desktops.
The other great thing about the iPad is that you'll find yourself curling up in bed to read your iPad rather than reading a book. Laptops are too big and awkward to balance on your lap when you're trying to fall asleep-- and the iPad feels as natural as a book when you're trying to surf the web from your couch.
I recommend DropBox to keep your files in sync, GoodReader for email attachements and PDF reading, Pages for word processing, Early edition for RSS feeds, Zinio for magazines, and IM+ for your chat clients.

I've had my iPad for six months now and figured I could write a reasonable and fair review...
Overall this is a great device for those on the move that still need access to the internet or reference material. So far the main reason I find myself using the iPad is for listening to music, reading books and browsing the web. It's much more convenient to have a small device on your lap instead of huge bulky laptop...NO THIS IS NOT A LAPTOP REPLACEMENT but it is a mobile device that replaces the need to carry around a laptop for minor things like browsing the web...etc
The battery life is great on this device...I use it everyday but find myself only charging it roughly once a week. I recommend changing your brightness to half way which really saves the battery. Sound from this device is also decent. One thing I do recommend is to get a protective screen cover. Doing so will cut down on the glare from the light along with minimizing the dreadful fingerprints.
Overall I would recommend this device to others who are looking for a mobile device but not to those who are in the market for a laptop...once again this is not a laptop replacement!

Ipad vs Netbook

I have the iPad 32GB wifi + 3G, it is awesome. I am thinking about getting another one wifi only 16GB. So far, the only negative is not having a webcam. I definitely recommend the iPad over any netbook. Here is why -
1. Lightweight.
2. Smaller than netbook.
3. Better for travel.
4. Good looking device.
5. Touchscreen.
6. No need to store software cd's and manual, everything is stored in iTune for backup.
7. Applications / Games cost around free - $10. Less than a minute to download.
8. Applications / Games loads up in about a second compared to Windows apps.
9. No need to wait for Windows to bootup and/or shutdown.
10. Longer battery life (10 hours per charge).
11. Read eBook anywhere - couch, bed, traveling, car, outdoor, not with netbook.
12. No need for Anti-virus, spyware, firewall, drivers, etc to slow down your device.
13. Listen to music with speaker or headphone on the go.
14. Play games anywhere without being at home and not having to take game disk along.
15. No need to upgrade RAM, Video Card, drivers, etc. Apple products works exclusively with their products so speed is never an issue. Windows trys to be compatible with everything so it loads every drivers, ports, etc. which is why they are always slow.
16. Does not produce heat, like a laptop. Can't set it on lap due to heat.
17. It is easier to use.
18. Try using Safari (Apple's web-browser) on you PC; I did and web pages load up 3 times faster on my Windows PC. The problem is Internet Explorer.
19. Netbook - boring, iPad - WOW! Just ask around.
20. Resale value: PC / netbook - lose value after first use. Ipad - currently sells more than retail at online stores.
21. It can also be use as a digital picture frame for photos.
22. Over 150,000 Applications and Games to download on the Apple's AppStore.
23. Pay as you go 3G data plan (no contract).

Bought this for one reason and one reason only - the ability to view downloaded/email documents/attachments easily. Technically the device is excellent: great screen, easy to use, fast, etc. Many here say that the unit does no more than their iPhones and other devices. Essentially correct in my view. I do not use it for music, movies, etc. However, the ability to instantly view in a very readable format documents that are sent to me without having to boot my laptop and run WORD, Adobe, etc is a real boost to my productivity. For those of us with that need, this is a Godsend. Highly recommended for those people. For others, a neat toy to be sure but not an essential purchase.

I picked up my iPad today at my local best buy, and I was pleased with it's performance. I'm actually writing this review on the iPad too!
The internet is very fast, haven't had an issue yet. I don't see why many people would care whether it had a camera or not... It doesn't bother me. Youtube is really cool on this compared to my iphone. Setup wasn't to complicated, I never used iTunes before today. The only issue I really don't like is the fact that everything you want on here has to go through iTunes but really big whoop. It is an apple... Heck I'm a PC guy and I even enjoy it!!
I recommend this product to anyone interested, I was not disappointed!

I received my iPad yesterday. I played with it for about four hrs non-stop and I still have 50% battery life. I like that the battery indicator give you a percentage of how much battery life is left. The only thing that I dislike about the iPad is that you cannot multi-task. You cannot listen to Pandora radio and surf the net at the same time.

My Dad purchased an IPad for me and I tried for a while and took it back. Then friend of mine got one, (this one) I tried it out for another 2 weeks, but other thant the size of the memory it was essentially the same, so I wrote another review about this one.
Other than the memory size, this is exactly the same as the 64GB one.
The virtual keyboard is ok, but I type by feel, so for me a real keyboard is much more efficient. With the virtual keyboard, i Find that I had to keep looking at the IPad to make sure I was hitting the right keys. It was actually a little distracting as i was concentrating between typing correctly, and trying to focus on taking notes. But I could deal with it.
The biggest problem came when I was trying to use this for serious reports. In other words, when I sat down and tried to type for more than 8-10 minutes at a time, this was just not comfortable and kind of annoying. Not the same as having a real keyboard at all.
I also realized just how important USB is for a college student. You wouldn't think so, but it is a MUST!!!! And this does not have one...
When it came to printing out reports or projects, that was a bit of a problem as well....not to mention multitasking!!!!!!!
My friend says it will get it soon, but when i had it I definitely needed it and didn't have it. How can you have a computing device without the ability to multitask????? If it eventually gets it, great, but I needed it now, not in the possible future.
It was great for the web, (except for the ones with blank spots), but i realized I needed more.
Also because I go to college out of town, I was using my friend's computer to SKYPE. Nice way to keep in touch with friends and family, except the IPad didn't have a camera, so not really feasible.
I took it back and got another laptop. It gave me all I needed and more. Trust me when I say that my laptop can do everything I need to do and more, and still cheaper than the IPad. I can also get my college books in a digital format on my laptop, so it is easier than carrying around a bunch of books. Anything the IPad can do, my laptop can do and probably better, and probably more. And definitely for cheaper as well.
Not that the IPad is bad, it just needs to be cheaper. As a "starving" college student, I definitely need the best deal money can buy. Maybe if you need something for entertainment, then the IPad is for you, but for me, I needed something for more, and a laptop gave that to me and the entertainment value as well.
Took it back and got a laptop. Problem solved.
This wasn't much better than the other IPad my dad purchased for me to try. In fact it was the same.

This is a great toy / laptop. I travel a good bit and have been able to use my ipad a lot. The unit itself is great; as always it has a wonderful touch screen (apple products are the best on the market for that), is very snappy and easy to use. The wi-fi and 3G connections could be improved. I have an EVO and Droid in our house and both seem to get better cell service / coverage and wi-fi signal. That being said, I have had no trouble connecting with only one bar showing and can't remember ever getting disconnected. I would like to see Apple include some sort of USB connection, and the case selection out there is not very good, they are bulky and expensive or very cheaply and still expensive. For the most part I love my ipad and hope this becomes a trend...the laptop is nice but I would much rather carry this on trips!

I bought the 3-G / WiFi 32-GB model.
So far, over 4,000 pictures and 100 'FREE' apps downloaded, and just loving it. Syncs easily with my Dell laptop.
Looking at my 401K - I can keep tabs on my stocks instantly, and check out CNBC news and real time quotes ANYWHERE I am. I do NOT have to sit in an office or at my home desk any longer - I can move about freely and still be tied to EVERYTHING on the internet.
As a Florida licensed Broker/Associate Realtor(R) and Mortgage Broker, using the wireless entry to the Multiple Listing Service, I can assist my clients, and SHOW them incredibly great Photos of any home they are interested in. And there are many more LOCATION BASED "Apps" that show all the homes and condos in the surrounding areas.
At home, I use 'Yahoo Entertainment' app to 'see' what is on TV, and for my grandkids, I have 2 pages of Apps for my 4-1/2 year old, and 1 page of kids apps for my 11-month old.
In the car, I use Trapster to tell me where all the Police and Red Light cameras are, and it also shows traffic congestion points too.
The bottom line is very simple - just use it for a half-hour, and you will be ADDICTED to it - not just because my 11-month old granddaughter can play with it, but because you will SEE and FEEL the usefulness of it to yourself.
I also bought the Bluetooth Keyboard so that I do not have to be 'attached' to the iPad (as with the combo keyboard/stand). You do NOT need to buy a separate Keyboard though - as the iPad's virtual keyboard is plenty good - but just easier when at my desk.
Also, for WiFi usage, I got the Apple AirPort Express N-Router - which is separately reviewed and works just great.
Enjoy.

I have had my 3g since Friday at 5:00 p.m. and so far I love it! I am looking forward to dumping my cable provider for TV and internet service as the 3g in my area is quick and reliable (so far). I use the iPad in the morning for music as I get ready for work (the sound is pretty reasonable) and in the evening as a TV for the Nightly News as I cook dinner. Of course it does a bunch of other helpful stuff too. I am not a technie but what is not to love about this exciting new product. We haven't left the house together yet but that's the next step ...... go buy one, you'll love it too :)

Very disappointed with my purchase of this device. If it was priced at about $300 (with everything) it would be a cool toy but this device is not a serious instrument. Web browsing is hit and miss, if the site has flash content (lots do) the ipad will not play it, not load it and not show it. Pitiful. All of google's free services such as google documents, you can view, but you cannot edit. Can't download music from competitive web sites such as walmart because it uses flash. Even if you do have the 3G and are paying for unlimited use... it will not allow you to download content such as purchased movies and tv shows.. you get a message saying download using wifi. The device comes with ipod software... however it will not work using ipod hook up in car etc... I have limos with ipod connections... not compatable. Just basic things you expect in a device this costly it just does not have. It's a toy, worth about $300 with everything. I bought 2 , returned 1 in time, 1 not in time. Huge disappointment. Just buy a laptop and an extra battery instead. You'll be happier and more productive.

I have an Iphone 4 and a MacBook Pro and love them both. I thought the Ipad would be a good addition to take with me when I travel. I tested it for a week and just returned today. Here's why. The Ipad worked flawlessly. I had no connection issues with either the 3G or WiFi. Apps performed the same as on my Iphone. Screen was nice and bright. No quality issues. However, for me it was an expensive Ipod. I can access my Itunes from Iphone and majority of apps I use on a daily basis are on my Iphone. I couldn't justify the cost of the Ipad as a way to view email, surf the internet, watch movies, and listen to music. Great unit but was just not for me.

If you need a portable computer to compliment your main computer then it's the best. Showing your photos with it is an excellent experience as well. The virtual keyboard is easy to use especially if you have an iPhone. Speaking of portable, this thing is easy to take with you and the battery really lasts longer than you may think. No exaggeration on battery expectancy. Multitouch internet is awesome on a device this size. I don't like using my laptop anymore.

I'm a senior person and had the ipod touch with wifi. I loved the ipod but had terrible experience with the wifi and for senior eyes the ipod became more and more straining. I've wanted an ipad ever since they came out and finally bought one 2 weeks ago. LOVE LOVE LOVE it. I take it everywhere I go and have used it each time------either for info, surf the web, play games , check facebook for new pictures of my grandbaby, etc. I got the 3g this time and absolutely love it. My grown kids all have iphones but I found the screen too small and I'm not good at multitasking. Got the 2 yr Apple protection plan and get tech support regularly. Very nice. I can't say enough about Best Buy. I had the geeks transfer all my stuff from my ipod and hooked me up. The first ipad must have been a lemon because they worked on it for hours and had nothing but trouble. 2 geeks, Casey, Rapheal, and a store mngr stayed over one hour after closing time to get everthing set up to my satisfaction. Great store! fabulous product! Thanks guys from Best Buy and Apple. I'm a happy Sr.

I have had an iPad since day one. It is the best device I have ever bought.
Not to say it is perfect, Steve messed up with Flash but that is about as far as the negatives go.
The iPad to me is the ultimate personal entertainment device. It allows me to check my mail, surf the internet, watch movies, listen to music, play games and do light work. It is extremely portable, runs long on its battery as advertised and is flexible enough to join wifi networks or ATT's 3G network if necessary. It's GPS is awesome to use when travelling as a navigator can find places and search reviews all at the same time.
It's an amazing educational tool as well. My son has excelled with learning and much of this has to do with the amount of educational apps available in the app store. He was writing the entire alphabet before he was 3.
My kid has done unmentionable and horrible things to this device and it still runs. It has a dent in the back, has been tossed, jumped on, dropped, hammered and it still chugs along. Last night at Cheesecake Factory he literally used it as a plate for his pizza. I bought it home, washed it down with a moist cloth and it's perfect. I do use the macally hard case for it though but no screen protector anymore.
If I could recommend one device to anyone it would be this one. Over ANYTHING else. If you have kids it's the greatest travel companion and dinner saver of all time. Why spend $1000 bucks for a car upgrade for a walmart quality DVD player on the roof when you can instead buy 2 iPads.

So, I was very skeptical about the iPad. At first I thought it was the most useless device made. The more I researched and looked into it, the more I became interested and liked it. I ended up buying one before June 7 when AT&T changed their data plans so I now have the unlimited data for $30, which is awesome. Right now I am a college student and found many useful apps for school only for the iPad. I do not mind that it does not have a camera. I do not take many pictures or video chat anyways. I do have many pdfs and files that I can now put on iPad and read. I do not own any other Apple products so I figured if the iPad was a dud at least I would have a nice portable media player lol. All in all, I love the iPad and find it very useful for my lifestyle.
(p.s. The iPad has sparked interest in more Apple related products lol) I am hoping to afford a macbook in the next year or two. :)

Gave this as a Christmas gift. My girlfriend loves it. Just keep in mind if you have kids, they WILL fight over it because it is great. She barely uses her laptop anymore, and the battery life is great. I have an I-phone and thinking of getting one for myself due to the larger screen and better aps (in most cases).
