    I'd probably go with a phone over the iPod since you can pick up an iPhone for about the same money (the SE or 6+) and you get the added functionality. BUT, my kids don't need a phone function yet, and they wanted a way to stream spotify and be able to text while on our home wi-fi. Its perfect for that, and you don't have to add a line to your wireless bill going this route.
