While the Mac Mini (3.0ghz 6-core, 8gb ram. That one.) does just about everything I’d intended it for, it’s pretty slow with some things (rendering vectors in Illustrator, for example) and gets cuh-razy hot. I slapped some external fans on ‘er and am upgrading the RAM myself in the near future.

Bought this to replace a 2011 Mac mini and I'm glad I waited. I'm using it for my work desk at home. I still use the MacBook Pro for Mobile use and setup the 2011 Mac Mini at work instead. It's fast enough for what I need it for. I might upgrade the memory in the near future. Mac Mini's still offer the best value for Apple computers.

If you need Mac and have monitor/keyboard already it is very good choice! Yet 8gb is too small for serious work like software development, but totally enough for non memory hungry tasks. Very energy efficient device and very fast CPU at the same time. Even though i5 does not have hyper-threading you still have full 6 cores!

I use to have a Mac Pro with 4 cores and 16G RAM and an after market SSD drive. Due to its age the hardware was no longer compatible with any of the updated macOS releases, so I looked for a new Mac replacement. I wanted a small foot print like the Mac mini, but the mini at that time was an old design that Apple hadn't updated in years. So I waited for the Mac mini to be redesigned and I am glad I waited as I have used the Mac mini for 3 months now and I am very satisfied with its performance. I would recommend the upgraded 6-core unit with the 256G SD drive over the 4-core unit. It is plenty fast, and I have parallels desktop running Windows 10 as a virtual machine on this new Mac mini as well. With 4 thunderbolt ports (USB-C), 2 USB 3.1 ports and HDMI port as well as an audio output, I had plenty of ports to plug in multiple monitors and external SSD drives, DVD burner, etc. The small size of the Mac mini means I don't have that large space being taken up like the old Mac Pro and I still have a relatively fast machine.

What I absolutely love about the mac mini is how quiet it is. It runs smooth and I added more memory to it, since its upgradable. The value for money is just not there for any apple product so that is the only downside. But for its compact size I couldn't find anything comparable.

I’ve carefully waited and researched all options in my price range before making this purchase. The MacMini i5 model is the perfect balance of value and performance. It’s faster than i could’ve imagined and runs smoothly without any issues, lagging or freezing up. It has plenty of Ports for external accessories and is quiet as can be. To get this type of power and performance in a laptop, it would’ve cost me twice what this one did. I’d highly recommend the i5 model to anyone in search of a good future proofed pc which is portable and versatile.

This is the best way to get into the apple eco system, and it's totally worth every penny. This computer has more I/O than nearly every other computer they offer, and you can grab it for a lot less than the others. It's powerful, fast, and easy to hide away on your desk. I've been using this to edit 4k videos with no issues, and it renders video footage about the same time as my 2017 5k iMac. I wanted to use my favorite monitor, which is a 34 inch wide screen. So having owned the 5k iMac for a while, I got tired of not being able to be flexible. So I got this little guy, and I couldn't be more happy. I've got huge speakers (thonet and Vander), 34 inch wide screen monitor, external mic, external hard drive, 4k webcam, DSLR (camlink), and more connected with no issues. You'll enjoy this computer if you decide to buy it, it's very solid.

Yes, this is my second Mac Mini. My first one lasted almost 10 YEARS! Talk about reliability, right? It was truly a sad day when #1 just wouldn't boot up. I do mourn the poor thing as it has stood by me all these years. Now I'm not a gamer or a super user but the little thing was running pretty much 24/7 during those years. It went through power outages and some days with crazy higher than usual high temps in the house. But it was always there for me. The new kid on the block is very noticeably faster but that is a given with all the changes in technology over that time period. I had always had a time machine running so it was pretty much a plug n'play setup to get going. I'm just hoping that the nooby will have somewhat the same robustness of it's predecessor.

Excllent upgrade from older Mac mini

Eighteen months ago I acquired from Best Buy a 500GB Mac Mini then available to do heavy mobile programming using XCode and Visual Studio. The old mini was incredibly slow, sometimes requiring hours to do a compile. Correcting a single coding error and retesting could take half a day. And OS updates took a day or more. The new Mac mini now has the responsiveness I've longed for and makes the old one (now returned for rebate credit) seem like a toy. I was worried about the decreased storage area (256GB SSD instead of 512GB HD), but needn't be. Got a compatible LaCie drive to extend storage and programming is a breeze, at last! As I already had an external drive functioning as a "Time Machine" data transferal from the old mini to the new worked pretty well, but when the new reported it had run out of storage space I just revised my transferal choices to exclude my own coding, placing that instead on the LaCie. I am very pleased with how all this works seamlessly together with alacrity,

The 2018 edition of the next-gen Apple Mac mini is a great little box providing sufficient processing power and portability making it an invaluable tool for application development or other productivity tasks. The small footprint, essentially silent operation and sufficiently robust quad-core i5 processor makes the Mac mini an easy choice over the new MacBook Air. For my development studio, 256gb is more than sufficient for local storage as everything really huge is on a server or cloud! Video output and animation is fine with the on-board Intel graphics. Again, I did not buy this to build 3D games - but it hums along quite nicely for what we ask it to do.

I was in the market for a computer when I stumbled upon this machine. Since I was always more familiar with Apple products I decided to buy it. I use it for online classes, video editing, and some music recording other than the usual web browsing. It works great for a novice and i would recommend it. I have not maxed out my 8gb yet but I'm sure I will within another year. Easy to use if you are familiar with apple products.

This pocket rocket is a super fast computer for 70% of users. This little guy is surprisingly portable and just fun to use. The only issue that I ran into was that my kids couldn’t play all of the games that they wanted to play due to the lack of a dedicated GPU. All-in-all, this computer is going to do just about everything that you need it to do... unless you are a power user.

I replaced my 27” iMac 2014 with 32Gb with this 6 core 8 GB Mac Mini and I love it, the only significant difference is the hard drive is only 256 GB and my monitor does not have a camera. Other than that the speed is wonderful both in normal use and start up

Bit bullet and bought this a month too soon. Wish I had waited for the new models with same specs but twice the HD. It was on sale, but would pay full price for a 512GB HD. Very happy with speed of the i5, which i read is essentially the same as the i7, and significantly faster enough than the i3. Hopefully it’ll last like my old Macs did...for 7-10 years...I’ll be realistic and expect 6 years again. My mid2014 grew too slow after 5ish years (It was the base model then). This being the mid model, maybe I’ll get my wish.

Picked up the new Mac mini a few weeks ago. Stating to move into the Mac ecosystem, and everything works great. This is really the best bang for your buck for a Macintosh. I had monitors a mouse and keyboard so it works well. Mac mini still has all the ports you need to connect peripherals if needed, unlike all other macs that only give you a couple USB c ports.

Long time Apple user left for a PC two weeks ago, and just had to come back. We didn't want to spend money on another iMac and this did the trick perfectly. This computer is very fast and works great with the monitor, keyboard and mouse I already had. Would defiantly recommend it to anyone looking.

I’ve been patiently waiting for Apple to update the Mac Mini. Don’t let the mini moniker fool you. It’s got just as much power as a $5,000 5k iMac. It’s an outstanding machine at a very reasonable price point.
