Okay, so that’s hyperbole, but seriously, this thing has changed my life. I am a writer and I’m old school, so I still write my first drafts by hand (in handwriting, you know, the stuff they no longer teach in school...). The Apple Pencil is perfect for this, and now my iPAD has finally successfully replaced my hard bound moleskines, a feat that I’ve been attempting for years but was unable to accomplish due to the lack of adequate handwriting ability with other styluses. There are abundant apps for this type of task, I.e. note taking/writing, and my favorite is Notability, with which theApple Pencil operates 100% seamlessly. I also use it to sketch on “Sketches Pro”, another excellent app for the Pencil. This thing is pressure sensitive and includes the capability to utilize the side of the pencil, as you would if you were lightly shading with a graphite pencil on regular drawing paper. I’m a little annoyed with the need for the adapter for charging, although you technically could (and I have) charge it through your iPAD lightning receptacle, but then you are using your IPAD power and can’t charge it while charging the pencil.....you see the problem. But it charges FAST, like I drive to work with it plugged into a charger in the car and it is 100% when I get there. So that’s awesome. And the charge lasts, sometimes for days, depending on use. I perceive (although I may be totally wrong) that it uses more charge on drawing apps than just writing notes. Anyway, I lost mine and had to immediately replace it, because the day I spent without it was completely disruptive to my work. I did add a silicone sleeve and a replacement lightning connector cap that functions as a regular stylus (the standard cap does NOT work as a stylus), which you can see in the photo (the sleeve is glow-in-the-dark...a great feature when I throw it in my bag and can’t find it later....). Got those through a certain online mega-retailer for next to nothing. If you think you want it, get the Apple Pencil. You won’t regret it.

I tried all of the other competitors, from Wacom to Paper, none of them worked as well or were integrated as well as the Apple Pencil. This integration, however, comes at a premium price since the Apple device is almost 2x the price of the other stylii.
Pros: well designed, same size as real pencil, charges quickly, weighted-side reduces rolling off the table, good OS integration with palm rejection.
Cons: pricey, slippery to grip (I use a pen grip to combat this), charging requires separate adapter (included) which is very small and easy to lose, can roll off of table due to perfectly round outer surface.

Okay, so $100 for a stylus is a little ridiculous, but I'm a professional illustrator and I can tell you that this works like a dream with the iPad Pro. Being able to draw directly on the screen rather than paper + scanner cut my work time in half. In the Procreate app I can't even believe how much this works like a real pencil (and I really like traditional media). Has made my work 100% portable - no more bottles of ink to carry around! It would be nice if the eraser end of the pencil was programmed to work like an eraser, but maybe in the next generation. Oh, and remember to turn off your bluetooth when you're not using the pencil, otherwise the pencil battery will drain overnight. But if that happens it's not a huge deal because charging for 15 seconds = 30 minutes of battery life!

So far this pen is lovely! It charges quickly, it’s sleek and lightweight and I enjoy drawing on procreate with it. The bottom cap is magnetic so you have to be careful about dropping it (I admit I dropped mine twice and both times the cap came off). Very good calibration and much easier to pinpoint small links and buttons on browsers.

This is an excellent input device for the Apple iPad Pro. It is not perfect in some ways but it is very good at drawing, writing and touch control of the tablet. Here are the pros and cons as I have seen them since my use of the pencil:
• Excellent for drawing or writing
• Excellent for reworking photos and doing graphic arts
• When used as a touch control it is very precise when using the tip. I even like using it to read with and highlighting text in a book.
• It comes with a spare tip that can be replaced.
• It comes with a lightning adapter that lets you use a lighting cable to charge the pencil.
• It charges quickly
• You can vary the pressure or the slope of the pencil tip to adjust the darkness or the width of a stoke of a bush while coloring a drawing for example.
• You can see the charge level of the pencil by pulling down on the daily window shade at the top of the screen and touching widgets. The charge level of your iPad and the pencil will be displayed.

The Apple Pencil is just awesome. I used to draw years ago, but over the years I backed away from it because I hated storing my work just to have it destroyed by a simple crease in the paper. Plus, I just did not have the time for it the hassle of it all — keeping drawing utensils ready, paper stocked, etc.
Now, that I have the Apple Pencil, I feel like I’ve gained that time back because I can be out and about and with a few minutes here and there, I can pull open Procreate or Affinity Photo on my iPad Pro and sketch something really cool.
So, why do I like the Apple Pencil more than the average stylus? It’s because it’s so close to using a ‘real’ pencil. The iPad and the Pencil work so well together that even slight pressure differences are detected and interpreted correctly on the screen. It’s so close to a real pencil that you won’t want to use anything else when drafting digital masterpieces.
Charging the Apple Pencil is easy. It comes with an adapter in the box that lets you plug into a Lightning cable and then you can plug the Pencil into it to charge or if you are on the go, you simply plug it into your iPad for a few minutes and you’re good to go.
In addition to drawing, the Pencil is also great for taking hand-written notes and marking PDFs up.
The only complaint I have is that when you set the Pencil down on a table or desk, it tends to roll away and the cap that covers the Lightning port can easily be lost as it only connects to the Pencil through a magnet.
In my opinion, the Pencil is worth the pricey investment if you want to get the most out of your iPad Pro.

Bought this because all the students in my class had one and they recommended it. Everyone in my lab was using Apple pencils to write on different PDFs with their iPads when we needed to download and edit documents for each other while I was downloading the attachment to my laptop and trying to figure out how to type in my responses. I’m happy I finally got one, because it connects automatically to my iPad and I plug it into the iPad to charge. I’m still learning how to use it, but like how I can now easily open any document for class and write on it using the app GoodNotes5 without having any issues. Highly recommend to anyone using this for school or work.

I never realized I needed an Apple Pencil... until I got one! Oh my gosh... I downloaded a painting app and went crazy! This thing can do everything and I don't even know how! I'm used to a surface pen on my surface that has lag and doesn't quite meet on the screen, with buttons I have to push to do things. Not this pen! Just plug in the end to charge. No cords. No buttons to push. It just thinks for me! I can't get enough of drawing now instead of on paper with pencil. I love it!

Probably the best stylus experience I've had as an illustrator.
Great pressure sensitivity and tilt. Feels right in the hand.
Of course, the charging is not ideal. You can either charge it with an adapter the pencil brings, or by connecting it to the iPad so it sticks out like a unicorn.
Price is honestly quite steep, I don't advise purchasing this if you won't use it for art or anything that requires that pressure sensitivity/tilt. You can get by perfectly fine with a 20 dollar stylus for note taking or browsing the web.
Be wary that if you use a matte screen protector, the tip will wear down incredibly fast. You can still use the pencil even with the tip worn down though, but if you want the aesthetic to stay intact, be prepared to spend on extra tips.

The iPad Pencil adds a different dimension to the hardware, both by easily scanning pages, writing notes, drawing, quickly moving between screens, apps etc. For me, the action response using the Pencil is faster than using my finger (except for typing). The Pencil is very responsive and changes shades with different pressure/angulation. It also holds a charge for a long time and has a fast recharge.

Absolutely love, love, love my Apple Pencil! I really wasn’t quite sure what it was that made it so special, but now that I’ve used it, I fully understand. I created a picture from a photo using an app and I am thoroughly amazed with it. It’s super fun to just color if you wanted. I love that you can write in your own handwriting and that you can write very small. It’s so precise and allows you to be detailed in whatever you are doing. It also came with an extra tip and an adapter to charge it using a lightning cord. And it takes like 15 minutes or less to fully charge. Your Apple device automatically connects to it as soon as you plug it in and you can view battery percentage in settings. My only negative is that I’m worried about losing it.

I've been hoping to be able to draw on a portable tablet for a long time, and finally the Apple Pencil + the iPad Pro is the perfect combination. : D Drawing on glass takes a little getting used to, but not too different from the Cintiq so it's not a huge jump. The pencil is incredibly responsive, and doesn't lag at all. Charging the pencil is fast, but a bit awkward if you're charging by plugging it into the iPad (don't knock it by accident). Thankfully, the pencil comes with an adaptor to charge it through an USB cord.

I love this Ipad pencil! I'm an illustrator and this is sooo necessary to produce awesome art. I've got 2 Ipads and 2 pencils because they both are game changers.
You can draw with the pencil, color with it, WRITE with it...and its great for all ages, all levels. It opens a new artistic world.
Pair it to your Ipad and start drawing...or writing.
Use it with Procreate and a new world is yours!

I love this Apple Pencile, which surprise the heck out of me. I thought for sure I was going to return it because $99 is a lot for a stylus. But that's the thing, it's not just a stylus. It's a pencil, pen, paintbrush, and highly accurate fingur replacement. I'm not the biggest artist, so art applies very little to the use of this to me. But I am a student that takes lots of notes. Now pair the Apple Pencil with the app Notability, and you have yourself one fine little note taking machine. So for students that hate carrying around 10 different notebooks and folders, just get the iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, and maybe that sweet apple keyboard, and you are beyond set.

The iPad Pro combined with the Apple Pencil works perfectly for MY needs. That is, for someone who doesn't like photoshop's ui but prefers Procreate's sleek design that doesn't get in the way of the art. My favorite pastime happens to be watching speed-paintings on YouTube, most of which use photoshop. Yet the actual techniques they use can mostly be done faster, smoother, and more naturally in Procreate.
Now, I will admit that procreate is a very FOCUSED app, and so you may have to switch apps to add text, but that said, Savage Interactive is very present on Procreate's forums, where users can suggest features. So it won't be long before Procreate is perfected.
But if you feel chained to photoshop you still have some wonderful options. The app 'Astropad,' which mirrors your Mac's screen, is designed for artists from the ground up, and supports both the pressure and tilt sensitivity of the Apple Pencil.
At the moment I am working on making a webcomic exclusively on the iPad Pro with the Apple Pencil, which you can follow at: http://theipadartistsjourney.blogspot.com/
I am not planning on even using Astropad, since that requires an external computer. So if you are interested in this being your only computer, definitely check that out.
As for the actual experience of drawing with the Pencil, I think it is wonderful. Tilt makes shading such a natural experience, and the palm rejection is a blessing. My only complaint is that the Pencil does not have a strong enough magnet to stick to the iPad itself, but only to the extremely expensive Smart Cover. Surprisingly I haven't lost it yet, though.
If you have any questions, comment on one of my blogposts; I'll be happy to answer them. Also, if you want to watch the speed-paintings of the pictures I included and more made with the Apple Pencil, check out my YouTube channel : https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCvSNAqg9OG_zrs7yODiNY-w

I was excited to receive my first generation Apple pencil. I started to buy a knockoff, but was recommended by friends to get the “Apple” brand. It was rarely available at the store when we first started social distancing, but with persistence I received a notification when it was available and quickly purchased it. The pencil is comfortable to hold and moves smoothly across my device. I’ve enjoyed using it to play games, and look forward to writing and drawing with it. The battery appears to last a good amount of time, and quickly recharges.

I bought this for my wife to use with her iPad 8th gen. She said you have to pair it with the iPad before you can use it but that was easily done. She likes it and said it's much better than using her finger. It comes with an extra tip and the coupling to charge it. We made 2 slits in the box it came in to hold the tip and coupling with the pen so they don't rattle around. I added a picture.

I love the pencil becaus there is little to no drag when writing. It feels close enough to a real pen/pencil. *Two small issues: No grip feeling when writing with it so it takes some getting use to. Must purchase a cap holder because it’s hard to keep up with the cap. *See picture
