I bought this item because my Griffen Survivor case finally became unusable and finances prevented me from getting a Lifeproof. I am aware that the Smart Cover in no way advertises protection but I thought I would give it a try anyway. I am impressed with the strength of the magnet and it's pretty cool that the ipad wakes up when the Smart Cover is removed. Just know that this item is NOT a protective case or cover in any way, but it IS easy to use, light weight and keeps the ipad slim.

I bought this as a gift online. I did not realize however that it did not cover the entire ipad it only covers the front. So the bottom of the ipad is still exposed for scratching. It does protect the screen well and looks very nice on the ipad and my mom enjoys it .

After spending a couple of hours checking out all the cases available at the Apple store, Best Buy and one other retailer, I do think this case secures and covers my iPad 4 better than any other case I saw from any other manufacturer. This case is a snug fit on the iPad and encloses it in a nice, non-slip case that the iPad actually sits inside of. There are no gaps in the case on the corners or sides like I saw on other cases. No cheap straps or corner pockets only to hold it in which would just make me worry it would slide out. However, I give it only 3 of 5 stars because of two things I think should have been done better. The edges on the flap that covers the screen should be smoother. They do not touch the screen though. They are on the outside of the flap. They are a little on the rigid side that seems to serve no purpose. (The inside of the flap is a soft material that doesn't scratch your screen.) The other flaw is that there is no way to keep the cover closed if you pick it up and carry it in your hand vertically. A tab and flap closure or something would have been nice to keep the case closed when not in use and when you are carrying it. Though maybe Steve Jobs would have just told me I'm holding it wrong. :-/ I bought this case and then to carry it in a tote bag, paired it with the slim, neoprene HP tablet sized zipper case I also found at Best Buy. I liked these two items much more than some of the pricier cases that were all in one but only used corner or end straps to actually hold the iPad inside the zipper case. Those were convenient only when the iPad was not in use. I found them to be bulky when actually wanting to use the iPad not to mention, once the zipper was open, the risk of it sliding out due to poor attachment inside the case.

I bought this complement my Oakley iPad case. It works great and I like that it is real leather. The price is very steep for just a screen cover. I know of leather cases I can get at a lesser price. I originally wanted a navy blue one but that color has been discontinued. One big con I believe is that the microfiber side is used as the stand which leaves potential for dirt debris and particles to get trapped when used as a stand. Then when you undo the stand to cover the screen, it can make scratches on the screen from the trapped dirt, debris and particles. If you can afford it, I say get it but there is more out there that will be worth the money. I only got it because I had 2 gift cards and couldn't find anything else in the store that I wanted.

To be honest I only bought because I had $45 in rewards certificate therefore making it almost free. I have definitely seen cases (even those with the options to wake iPad) for waaay cheaper. Outside of the price-range, the case does what it should so if you do not mind the price tag and must have everything Apple then it is a pretty decent case. One thing I do not like it that it does collect oil on the case (I have oily hands). I am not so sure how easy it comes off but just an observation.

If you want a nice cover for the iPAD it works. If you want it to stay on, it doesn't. The magnet attachment to the iPad is nice if you want to grab it and go, but is comes off with equal easy in my bag or when I carry the iPad which can be very annoying since it's job is to protect the screen. If it where to cost less that would be one thing, but this is a very expensive cover and the second one that I have purchased in two years. The first one got warped and would no longer cover the iPad to turn off the iPad so it would remain on in my bag draining power. Once I replaced the cover the problem stopped.

I bought this case because the salesperson told me only Apple cases put the iPad to sleep when closed. I have since discovered that is not true. Other brands do that and more for a lower price. The cover has now gotten so sloppy to use (after only one month) that I ordered a Snugg leather case online this week to replace this one. This one is okay,, but not as functional as I hoped.

I needed a case for my recently purchased iPad, and this is what the salesperson recommended. The grey is quite boring, but it is low profile which is nice while traveling. It does protect against scratches and bumps, but not anything severe like dropping it. For the price, it works just fine but I'm not thrilled.

The cover will only tilt the ipad at a slight angle even though it appears to have two positions it stays steady in only one. I require a more pronounced angle to work hands free as well as either having the option of landscape or portrait positions. This cover is fine if you like the ipad to lie mostly flat.

    Decent Case - Better Options

Apple had a real chance to make something that would perfectly fit their own product and somewhere along the way they fell short. The backing on the case looks like it would be padded in some way but don't be fooled it offers nothing in the way of damage prevention. The edges that surround the case create an unneccesarily large lip that become extremely uncomfortable when using for extended periods of time. Why they didn't create a smooth contour like just about every other case on the market is a real head scratcher. The biggest oversight is the lack of a simple row of magnets across the back edge of the case so that you could flip over the Smart Cover and have it attach securely and not flop around. With all the "magnet technology" in the iPad itself and how it functions with the Smart Cover why wouldn't they stay on par with Belkin, Speck and several others? Bottom Line: There are simply way better options out there for far less than the $50 Apple is asking for this product.

Probably better products available. I feel the price is high and the product is limited in the number of positions I can set up for viewing (only 2). The case needs a least one additional position for viewing at a 45 degree angle.

I bought this case because I wanted my iPad to fit in my tote bag for travel while adding as little bulk and weight as possible and still offering protection. It does all that just fine. Here's what is disappointing: the cover leaves lines on the screen, after a month or so of use the corner I use to open it is slightly elevated from the screen, and I don't think the "stand" aspect of it works very well in that it slips and flattens quite easily, even when using on a counter. For the money, I wouldn't recommend it. I went back and bought a Logitech keyboard cover that fits beautifully on the screen side and has a slot for standing the iPad.

I think this iPad cover does the job, as I wanted something to cover the entire product and keep it enclosed safely. I like the design and the material used for the cover is good, non-slippery. However, it doesn't seem to fit correctly. Not too big nor too small, but it just won't "pop" into it's case completely; it ends up being a little off-kilter. Perhaps it needs a little "break-in" time. Also, I have trouble trying to plug the cord in at the bottom, through the case where they created a hole just for this reason, but it's not correctly lined up together. Sometimes it's frustrating and I take the iPad out of its cover so I can easily plug it in. Overall, it is a good cover for an iPad, and I do like the way it flaps open and closed on top.

While I've since replaced this cover with a blue tooth keyboard cover, this simple cover did all I needed it to do while in use. It's a stand, it covers the screen to protect it from damage, no complaints other than what I thought was a tad high cost. 3 stars due to cost

Pretty easy to attach the smart cover. Got it as a gift for the holidays. The light grey color is probable the most generally neutral color option available. Unfortunately, the Project (Red) color smart cover (despite being offered directly from Apple), isn't carried locally at my Best Buy store. Was not offered the ability to exchange it. Limited number of other color options as a possibility. Does lack any option to keep the cover end place when using the iPad as a book reader, ending up constantly having to put in extra effort to keep it open. Does manage to protect both the front, and rear of the iPad well. Best suggestion for anyone, sign up for Best Buy rewards program. Try to keep track of how much it takes to acquire and keep getting effective coupons. The rewards program does help making it much more affordable. However, I do wish it wouldn't take quite so much in purchasing to get more effective coupons.

Is a good item to keep my ipad from scrathes and dents, but no so good when I want to set my ipad in a vertical position to watch videos or movies. I would like to exchange this for a another brand.

The iPad Air Smart Cover is a perfect fit for the tablet protecting the screen and the back of the tablet. A big negative is the $79.00 price tag. It's leather, however, a very cheap grade of leather...almost pleather-like!

Way over priced for what you get. It is a standard cover with no advantage over other products. I would have expected more thought and innovation behind an Apple product.
