The first Apple device I have bought.
|Posted .Good device. Easy to use, and excellent resolution. I have purchased a good deal of stuff that is on my PC. I really do not want to match with my Apple device, with an ongoing charge. The cloud capacity pre charge is minimal. We want the BIG Apple!

Does not do what it was designed to do
Posted .This case is not appropriate for any iPad. A case is supposed to protect an iPad from getting damaged as a result of an accident (dropping or falling off of tables, counters, etc.). This case has not been protective of my iPad at all. For instance, today, I slipped on the ice and fell on my back. Even with this case fully in tact on my iPad and all of the books I had in my backpack (I'm a college student#, my entire screen still cracked. The crack is so bad that I can actually see the inside of the iPad if you look close enough. By definition and example, this case is inadequate by every stretch of the word. This is a warning. If you're like me #by that, I mean human#, this case is not for you. I bought this one because the only other case I could get at the time was $100. Plus, the idea of a case that I could attach and remove with ease was very appealing to me. I really wish I had bought the other case now #in case you were wondering, yes, I bought this case at a Best Buy). Don't make the same mistake I did. If you want your iPad to last, stay away from this case.

Not the best for protection, but its a good case.
Posted .I'll cut right to the chase, This is a good cover for the iPad (3rd Gen) and iPad 2. It's easy to put onto the iPad with just slipping it in and making the edges fit into the case. The holes are cutout perfectly to the iPad with no problems plugging in ports. It does offer a slight bit more protection to the back of the iPad while adding the smart cover to the front. Baby blue and the white iPad (which I have) goes well together and the case doesn't add weight at all being thin and light. Sitting it up to type is nice much like it is with the original smart cover. There is an Apple logo on the back that is in white and it looks like a premium product as I expected this from Apple. This is the part where some problem comes in...The case doesn't sit too well in the upright position. It feels like its ready to fall over with the slightest touch. I would be very careful when doing this as your iPad. I hardly will use this case/stand in the upright position. On another note this case will NOT give you total protection of your iPad, Remember this when buying this product. I see this case being excellent for around the house or going somewhere where there isn't harsh conditions. The iPad MIGHT survive a light fall anything else will still break the iPad. Some say that the gap between the case edge and front cover is pretty small and makes it a bit more hard to open, This haven't been hard for me to open at all. Overall it's a good case, Not great but good enough to maintain value to your iPad so nothing scratch the back of the case. But really $50 for a case is a lot and I'm sure there are much better cases out there for that price or under. Get this if your not going to be using your iPad in medium/harsh conditions outdoors. It's lightweight and stylish to the iPad. I like it so far.

Does a good job for its intended purpose
Posted .I like this cover. It's designed to function as compact screen cover for the iPad when it's not in use and as prop for it when it is in use. I've read a lot of negative reviews about what the cover doesn't do, but I think most of those things aren't things the cover was designed for in the first place. I bought the green one because I liked the color, but obviously the functionality is the same regardless of color. I chose the vinyl case instead of the leather one mostly because of price. Some people complained that the vinyl cases look tacky, but I guess that's just a matter of opinion. Some people complain that when the case is closed, it doesn't protect the back of the iPad. This is true. It's made as a front cover, and it works fine for that purpose. I also like that it turns the screen on and off when you close and open the cover. Another complaint is that the microfiber gets grubby and then can scratch the screen or get it greasy when you close the cover. You can help keep the cover clean by folding it with the microfiber facing in instead of out. and you can also help protect your screen with a clear screen protector. (If you're worried about scratches, you'd probably want to have one of those anyway.) It's true that the closed cover doesn't protect the back, but it's not designed to. Other kinds of cases and covers would be better choices if you want front and back protection. Some complain that the Smart Cover covers the back camera when it's open, which is true. But you can fold back one segment to solve that. (Since I don't rely on my iPad's back camera much--I use my iPhone camera much more--this isn't an issue for me.) My main wish would be that this case were also designed to work well as a prop in portrait mode (my iPhone case is great for both), but that's not really designed into it. You can use it that way, but it's not very stable. On the other hand, I discovered that it's easy to use the folded back cover as a "handle" to support the iPad in portrait mode when you're reaing on your lap. Bottom line: I wouldn't suggest getting this case if you're going to need a high level of protection against a lot of dirt, scratching the back of the iPad, or against damage from dropping it, but this case has many good features given what it's designed to do. I do wish it were less expensive (Apple brand=$$), but I think this vinyl case price is not bad given its functionality.

Did exactly what I expected!
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendFirst let me say that I got this for an iPad 4, then decided to return the iPad because the iPad 5 should be coming out within the next month. However, during the roughly 13 days I used this cover, i liked it very much and when I get the iPad 5, I will definitely buy the same cover for it. I loved the relative sleekness of the cover: I have had several different Android tablets and usually get cheaper cases for those on Amazon; those cases are usually much bulkier than this cover and that has always bothered me. I search diligently for the lightest, thinnest tablets I can find, then end up putting those heavy, bulky covers on them!! If I could get this same cover for my Kindle Fire HD, I would definitely get it. The cover adds virtually no weight to the tablet and it is sleek and easy to handle. The differing angles are easy to set and provide good viewing angles for the tablet. The only downside I can see is that this cover may not provide much cushioning for repeated drops, but that is a trade-off when using a cover that is light and thin as opposed to thicker and bulkier. For someone who has children, I might not recommend this cover as it may not give sufficient protection in little, uncoordinated hands. However, if only relatively coordinated adults will be using it, I feel that it definitely would do the job. I did not drop the tablet while I was using this cover, so I can't say how well it protects against drops. This is a well-designed cover and I will definitely purchase the updated cover when I get my iPad 5. If anyone knows of any comparable covers for Kindle Fire HD, I would love to know about it!!

Great but would be perfect with two changes
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendAfter spending a couple of hours checking out all the cases available at the Apple store, Best Buy and one other retailer, I do think this case secures and covers my iPad 4 better than any other case I saw from any other manufacturer. This case is a snug fit on the iPad and encloses it in a nice, non-slip case that the iPad actually sits inside of. There are no gaps in the case on the corners or sides like I saw on other cases. No cheap straps or corner pockets only to hold it in which would just make me worry it would slide out. However, I give it only 3 of 5 stars because of two things I think should have been done better. The edges on the flap that covers the screen should be smoother. They do not touch the screen though. They are on the outside of the flap. They are a little on the rigid side that seems to serve no purpose. (The inside of the flap is a soft material that doesn't scratch your screen.) The other flaw is that there is no way to keep the cover closed if you pick it up and carry it in your hand vertically. A tab and flap closure or something would have been nice to keep the case closed when not in use and when you are carrying it. Though maybe Steve Jobs would have just told me I'm holding it wrong. :-/ I bought this case and then to carry it in a tote bag, paired it with the slim, neoprene HP tablet sized zipper case I also found at Best Buy. I liked these two items much more than some of the pricier cases that were all in one but only used corner or end straps to actually hold the iPad inside the zipper case. Those were convenient only when the iPad was not in use. I found them to be bulky when actually wanting to use the iPad not to mention, once the zipper was open, the risk of it sliding out due to poor attachment inside the case.

The best Smart Cover from Apple
Posted .This is easily the best Apple Smart Cover on the market. It provides the same functionality as the leather models but it can take more abuse and it doesn't show dirt like the lighter colors do. I owned the black leather Apple Smart Cover for 7 months and I had to replace it with another case. The cover had worn edges that were almost exposing the metal underneath, new scratches had formed, and I had to wipe it down about once a week. The only upside to the leather ones is that they look more professional. Other than that, they are not worth it. Sme people might be turned away from the bland dark gray color but it looks more professional than the lighter and pastel colors and it hides dirt better too. This Smart Cover, like the others, works with the iPad 3 (aka the new iPad) so that it will wake the unit up and put it to sleep. The magnet that holds it to the iPad 2/3 is strong enough to pick the iPad up so you don't have to worry about it coming off at random times. You can fold the cover over and use the iPad in various positions. My only gripe against this is that the cover does absolutely nothing for the back of the iPad. It leaves it fully exposed and the brushed aluminum will scratch over time with standard use. I highly recommend buying a back snap cover for the iPad if you want to use this. Best Buy sells ones from Belkin for $30 that fits the iPad 3 and it doesn't add much bulk. Doing so drastically increases the cost of using Apple's Smart Cover though. I spent over $70 with tax on this and the Belkin solution. However, it is currently the only way to guarantee you are buying a case/cover that will wake an iPad 3 and out it to sleep. Until 3rd party manufacturers adapt their cases to the iPad 3, there is no other option except waiting.

Does what it says
Posted .I bought this cover in red leather and it does exactly what it says it will do. Some of these ratings are misleading, in my opinion, because they are rating the product on something it doesn't claim to do. The video even shows you how it protects the front of the screen so I don't understand why anyone would expect it to protect the back. The onus for that lies with the purchaser, not Apple. Just like any other electronic you have to be careful where you place it. Maybe the others plan on using theirs on a gravel road or in a puddle.
