One of the best DCEU films, and as good as some of MCU movies I think. The DC has stepped up their game - this is another level. Never had I expected this movie will this be good, after the Justice League and Batman V Superman because those movies are done and let's forget about those. This is the most ambitious comic book movie I've ever seen so far. Finally a movie that DC fans deserves, this film is just beautiful within the cinematography, visuals, also the action scenes. The action scenes kinda remind me of Romanticism painting, it is visually stunning and breathtakingly beautiful. James Wan did a marvelous job for Aquaman. The cast are outstanding, outstanding performances. I don't think any actors can take the role of Aquaman better than Jason Momoa. The atmosphere of this film looks magnificent vibrant and has high-quality then any DCEU film. Finally we can see the light after those dark days. It has clear motivations for both heroes and villains, pretty solid.
But, DCEU really need to fix their poor lines. The writing isn't the best - some dialogues are still cheesy and awkward. Nothing new for the plot, but it is simply enough - almost the same with any superhero film - save the world, family issues, etc. But it has a great message about polluting the water. Also the film scoring and soundtrack was a miss. And I don't see how and why Black Manta is the best villains, his story kinda flat and lacking for me. Black Manta has daddy issues seems not enough for me to think he is the best villain.
After all, this is highly recommended movie for superhero movie fans. Also you have to watch it in an 4K. Worth it!

Great Looking 4K Blu Ray

I saw this movie in theaters and it was awesome and loved it. This is DC's best movie in my opinion. Good narrative, great visuals and action. Jason Momoa is the perfect Aquaman with his rebellious sense of humor, Amber Heard (wow so beautiful) steals the movie as Aquaman's brothers wife Mera. I like the narrative involving Aquaman's brother King Orm. Of course we had to wait some years for filmmakers to actually create these underwater effects, because it couldn't have been done 5 or 8 years ago. Maybe it could have? The budget was $160 million, almost 200 million! But, again, the effects look great. I gave the movie 4 stars out of 4 but I am also reviewing the 4K Blu Ray and I must say that this is the best looking 4K Blu Ray I've seen so far. I was almost off the 4K Bandwagon but this brought me back in a big way.
I love new technology and I hope 4K can survive but some 4K Blu Rays look OK whereas Blu rays look awesome already. Not for the Aquaman 4K Blu Ray, the scenes that shine brighter are the IMAX Shot sequences (All the underwater scenes of course). If you're STILL looking to impress your friends with a 4K Blu ray then I would definitely recommend this 4K Blu Ray.

I have been a DC fan for so long. Joining the DCEU universe has been interesting. As I say Wonder Woman has been my #1. Aquaman was incredible! I seen the movie in theaters it was a wild ride. Comparing this movie to the animated Aquaman movie Justice League: Throne of Atlantis both are just great. Jason Momoa shines in this film. Every actor shines in this film. I’m just happy that DC is rising. As for the steel book I’ve purchased I love it. The comic book art is incredible nice marketing as well. I hope you’ll check this out. If this review even helped at all. I know that I enjoyed this.
Later on I hope that Warner Bros. #ReleaseTheSnyderCut
Next up: Shazam!

The DCEU has not been nearly as successful as the MCU in terms of content or box office. Only one of their films, WONDER WOMAN from 2017, has been great, in my opinion. Last night, I checked out James Wan’s AQUAMAN from last year. I was intrigued, as Wan comes from the horror world and directed a couple of films I liked in the original SAW and INSIDIOUS. So, was it any good? I’d say mostly.
The film begins with the unlikely relationship of Aquaman’s parents, surface dweller Tom Curry (Jango Fett himself Temuera Morrison) and Atlantean queen Atlanna (Nicole Kidman). Atlanna is eventually forced to return to her submerged realm, but not before giving birth to Arthur, our titular hero and the illegitimate heir to the throne of Atlantis. In the present, Arthur (Jason Momoa, basically playing himself) thwarts the hijacking of a submarine by ruthless technologically advanced pirates. In the course of the struggle, the leader of the pirates dies, leaving his son (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) to plot revenge against Aquaman. Meanwhile, plans are being put in motion by the current king of Atlantis, Orm (Patrick Wilson), to initiate a war against the surface world. Though warned by Princess Mera (Amber Heard) and royal advisor Vulko (Willem Dafoe), Arthur wants no part of Atlantean political struggles. He soon finds that the threat Orm represents is substantial, while also contending with the pirate’s son who has utilized Atlantean technology to become the armored villain Black Manta. Other notable cast members include Dolph Lundgren as Mera’s father, King Nereus, Randall Park as a surface dweller trying to convince the world of the existence of the undersea kingdom, Graham McTavish as the ancient founder of Atlantis, along with the voices of John Rhys-Davies and Djimon Hounsou.
That’s obviously a star-studded cast. I would say your mileage on the film may vary based on your appreciation of Momoa. I don’t mind him, but I could see where others might find him to be annoying. The other possible stumbling block is that there are at least a handful of goofy and borderline campy moments. Momoa’s tendency to play almost everything for roguish laughs doesn’t quite mesh well with Wan’s uneven attempts at gravitas. It’s also the type of flick that doesn’t want you to think too hard about what’s onscreen. Again, that could be a strength or weakness, depending on what you want out of the film. Pacing isn’t really an issue, but at almost two and a half hours, the picture borders on being overstuffed.
Yes, there are flaws, but there’s also a huge entertainment factor. Wan goes all in on presenting undersea action and intrigue. No easy task, he succeeds with flying colors. This is a visually astounding film. The CGI is about as good as it gets at this point in cinematic history. Creature design is extremely well done. The various armors employed throughout the film are impressively realized. Black Manta in particular is amazing. Action scenes are worthy of the film’s blockbuster status with huge set pieces that absolutely dazzle and thrill. I also really enjoyed seeing Ludgren having a largish role in a big budget film.
James Wan’s AQUAMAN isn’t the best of the DCEU so far, but it’s close. If you can ignore some tonal missteps, a few cheesy moments, and you like star Jason Momoa’s personality, there’s a lot of fun to be had here. Wan shows he has some range and I look forward to seeing the inevitable sequel. Let’s hope DC can continue this success so we get an actually good Justice League film. Recommended for fans of David Lynch’s DUNE, THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy, and CLASH OF THE TITANS.

Aquaman is probably one of the most impressive movies visually you'll see. With a lot of "underwater" scenes you'll forget what is shot practically and with CGI. Beyond the visuals, this movie feels like a DC movie should. You get Aquaman's past to get started and begin to see how Arthur is a virtual fish out of water. Half human and half Atlantean, he is drawn to protect the sea after being trained in his powers by one of his mother's closest allies.
Aquaman also brings in his two most iconic adversaries: Black Manta and his half brother Ocean Master. The latter wants to be the undisputed king of Atlantis... and to destroy mankind of land for polluting his oceans.
The story goes into Arthur needing to fight his brother for control of the kingdom to save mankind from an enemy most have no idea even exists.
If you've enjoyed the other DC movies, you should enjoy this one. I would probably put it as tied with Wonder Woman in its own way for the best of DC universe movies so far.

Both my husband and I love DC and Marvel and this was the next movie on our list to buy to complete our growing collection!
We missed seeing it in theaters, but this was an amazing movie! We loved the origin story flashback that's in the beginning. You really get a feel for Arthur and what makes him tick. I also enjoyed the fact that he will panic occasionally (like in Justice League) when faced with enemies/foes who match his strength level. It makes him a more rounded character and, frankly, the old Aquaman was lame to me. This one is much better and its not the actor's looks (even though he is attractive); it's his swagger, expressions, and line delivery (including his humor!) that really makes me excited for the next one!
Don't miss this movie! It's a great story, great acting, and the behind the scenes extras were super cool to watch! It didn't look like such an easily made movie with all they did, but it came out amazingly!

Aquaman is an awesome movie! I know a lot of people will hate this movie, but that's probably because it's not a Marvel movie. This movie flew by the entire time (2h 23mi) I watched it. There are two minor annoyances in this movie, but they didn't bother me that much. The first minor thing that bothered me, is the ratio bars on top and bottom would switch back and fourth between 16:9 and full screen, but it mainly stays full screen and looks absolutely amazing in 4K. The second minor thing is the whole King Arthur part. I thought they could've thought of something a little more original than that. Besides those two minor things, I absolutely loved this movie and had to give it 5 stars. Jason Momoa and Amber Heard were great together also. They make a perfect Aquaman and Mera. I would love to say more about the movie, but I don't want to spoil anything. If you're a DC fan, you'll love this, and if not, you probably won't. There's a little minority of people who like both DC and Marvel like me, but not many.

The establishment movie for the Aquaman character does a fine job with his background and his superpowers. Watching via 4k UHD Blu-Ray is a real pleasure. Wonders are done in the many CGI underwater shots with the colors and lights. The audio also sounds great.
As it is a “superhero” kind of movie, there’s a lot of fun in the story with Aquaman saving various people and fighting the “bad guys”. The actors are fine, but particular mention goes to Nicole Kidman in a small role as Aquaman’s mother, and Willem Defoe as sometime mentor and trainer. Momoa performs as expected in the title role, and Amber Heard is a pleasant surprise as female lead.
As expected, this is no “Citizen Kane”, but for a superhero film, there is a lot to like. There is humor, and only a few things that were too over the top for me. As a genre superhero movie, it’s fine, maybe 4.5 stars. An enjoyable entertainment, well worth the time.
I believe that those who stream this movie are missing a lot of excellence compared to the optical disc 4K Blu-ray product.

This movie shows that DC is finally finding it's way. Wonder Woman was the start of something good, and Aquaman is the proof that they are figuring things out.
That doesn't mean this is an exceptional movie, but it is very good. The character development is much better than recent DC flicks. It doesn't just assume you know Aquaman, because of his existence in Justice League. There is plenty of action, humor, and no depressingly dark orange overlay on the fight scenes.
The down side is they introduce Black Manta into this film. Without spoiling anything, the character was barely used, and was basically a throw away villain. He really serves no purpose, and uses up screen time, that I think could have been better used elsewhere. I would have preferred they saved him for a sequel. My best guess is that's the ONLY reason they had him, so he can return later. Still spent too much time on him though.
I know some people had issues with them speaking under water. That's something I looked past, since it would have been weird to have them constantly create oxygen bubbles, to talk, or radiate their lines, through telepathy.
If you enjoyed Aquaman's character, in Justice League, then I think you should have no issues enjoying this movie. Jason Momoa continues to deliver the same character, and personality.

I am so happy 3-D North America home version is here when 3-D is scarce these days. The only gripe I have is the 3-D should be a 3-D/4K combo pack and that needs to be the standard on every release! The steelbook is incredible for this movie that is not the 3-D version. I’m so happy that I got the 3-D but just wish this was a 3-D steel book at least as well as a 3-D Lenticular steel book cover which Best Buy should take notice across seas that do Lenticular covers on steelbook like your Asian Competitors.

Aquaman is a fictional superhero from comic books published by DC Comics. In the movie Aquaman/Author Curry, half-human heir to the underwater Kingdom of Atlantis, goes on a quest needed to prevent war between the worlds of the ocean and the land. Jason Momoa provided personification of the strength, brawn, intensity, credibility, and yes-even the sensitivity needed to round out this version of the powerful character of Aquaman. The casting and acting were good overall for the movie, although considering the intensity needed for a good pairing with Jason Momoa, Amber Heard might not have been best cast for her role.
The visual underwater effects were realistic and stunning. The costumes were striking. This movie, with its’ artsy underwater scenes, dramatically intense scenes, and humorous scenes, was surprisingly good for its’ type, although the fighting scenes were too extensive. There was a scene in a bar that was laugh-out-loud funny. Some of the dialogue could have been better, especially when considering someone’s choice to have Jason Momoa spout out just a humorous word or two rather than meaningful lines during some of his initial scenes. This resulted in a corniness that was unnecessary, and detracted rather than added to the effectiveness of the scene. Temuera Morrison’s face looked strange in one of his earlier scenes with Nicole Kidman, appearing to be a CGI creation rather than that of a human being. That was disturbing for a scene that would otherwise have been done well. Aquaman could have been a better movie, but was done well overall for its’ type, particularly when considering the age group and type of audience to which its' appeal would have been focused.

Saw this in the theaters and glad to have it at home on 3D!!! Still don't understand why the studios continue to release movies in 3D in the theaters and have moved away from that for the most part on the home versions. This is a bit of an origin story for the DCU... hopefully, the DC movies will continue - a lot of trouble holding onto their cast and moving forward with next installments. Marvel laid a great template and DC continues to move forward without a solid plan. Effects in this movie are great, a lot of underwater action.

I remember when I was a kid in school and Aquaman was the one superhero that was constantly getting made fun of......man, how times have changed! Taking place after his appearance in "Justice League," Arthur Curry (a.k.a Aquaman) must journey to the underwater city of Atlantis in order to stop his brother Orm from starting a war that will destroy all of the surface world! This movie takes place in modern times, but the vibe definitely takes you back to the Saturday morning cartoons and action-fantasy films of the '80's......and in a good way! Jason Momoa does a fine job at portraying a likeable hero in Arthur Curry, and I can't wait to see more films featuring Aquaman in the DC Universe!

Having collected all the other DCEU comic book art steelbooks, this was a must own for me. It complements the rest of them so well.
This is a 4K edition of the movie which comes with all the same special features and a digital copy of the movie. You’re safe getting either edition, but if you’re a big fan of steelbooks and comic book artwork, this is a great set to pick up.
Aquaman is a great installment in the DC Comics movie universe and really takes your breath away with gorgeous underwater special effects, amazing fight sequences, and really fun adventure story that throws you into a who new world.
Seeing it on crystal clear 4K UHD is just stunning and the improved sound quality is tremendous. It also comes packed with over an hour of in-depth special features and a digital copy of the film. If you’re a fan of superhero movies, this is a “Must Own”

One of DCs best

Easily one of DCs best offerings.
Jason Momoa is at his best here, and his charisma continues to make Aquaman, the butt of so many jokes throughout the years, one of the most compelling and empathetic characters in DCs film universe.
The film itself is a globe-spanning adventure, from vast deserts to the undersea kingdom of Atlantis, full of humor and incredible action.
Visually, it's amazing, with "The Trench" offering one of the more stunning pieces of eye candy in recent memory during their attack on a small ship carrying our hero.
The biggest issue with the film is a tad too lengthy a movie... or, perhaps a misdirection of focus in its over 2 hour running time.
As there's two main antagonists- Aquaman's brother and his long-time nemesis, Black Manta, they split the time a bit unevenly.
Manta seems the "cooler" of the two, while Oceanmaster is the one that feels more fleshed out. It feels as if the film would have been better-served by dropping one of the two and giving more time to the other.
Still, James Wan "gets" Aquaman in a way that, if DC was smart, would have them racing to lock him up for future films, and putting him in the running to tell even larger stories, perhaps as a frontrunner for the next (or rebooted) Justice League. As far behind as DC is to Marvel currently, as well as losing two of their three "trinity" actors, they need to keep a grip on those that have offered success.

A DC movie that isn't all washed up

A fun superhero film and pleasant surprise from the DC universe, Aquaman gives an entertaining origin story to the underwater hero. While, at least for me, the story felt a little overstuffed with unnecessary subplots - Black Manta was forgettable and mostly wasted, the "trash in the ocean" point about humanity is pretty much dismissed after the first act, and there are more underwater kingdoms thrown around just to bloat a CG slugfest third act. The need for these superhero movies to fight an army of CG cannon fodder just sucks the story quality down the gutter. It seems like every superhero MUST face off against a garrison of nameless, faceless drones in the final act, regardless of how it makes any sense.
The film tends to go for spectacle over substance, hopscotching all over creation for scenes - from the desert to Italy to the hidden world trench of creepy monsters that aren't really explained. The villian (or two, if you count Black Manta) is weak and really vanilla, given this generic power grab as motivation and nothing really to make him stand out.
But having said all that, it's still an entertaining superhero film. Comics are not made as perfect reflections of reality (most of the time) and so we can forgive some of the liberties taken. It's not as high a mark as Nolan's "The Dark Knight", but still a good popcorn film. Take it for a swim, just don't let the plot holes sink you.

Aqua man didn't come into being until I was 9 or 10 years old.
I purchased it rather reluctantly at the behest of grandchildren.
We sat together on the livingroom floor and watched it well into the night.
Everyone but me was asleep by the end of the movie.
Not because the movie was dull (it wasn't) but it was very, very, late. I finally get the plot of how Aquaman came into being.
The visuals effects are excellent. The story line is plausable.
The acting is quite good. This is a very good "rainy day at home" movie for the entire family. It was / is well worth the price.
So; get the popcorn, soda, juju bee's and good & plenty's.
Settle in for an entertaining few hours.
This one will probably have a sequel.
There are so many place it can go from where it ended. Enjoy.
Spoiler Alert: The butler didn't do it this time. :o)
