Arlo, worth it IF they sync, often issues

I have/had 4 Arlo camera's now for a few years. The quality of the video's are great. However, I had to return and switch out numerous of these cameras and just this week another one wasn't syncing with my router, for no reason. Many of these Arlo's are not able to sync for no reason. I know how to sync them as I have done it very often and the ones that work will work very well. But the headache when the no longer sync is for me a reason to give this 3 stars and no longer will I add new Arlo's. I have discovered cheaper cameras who work well, sync easy and even if they stop working, which hasn't happened, they cost me so much less. I bought a Wyze camera and it was the easiest set up just as my Blink camera. All for a fraction of what Arlo cost me and the headaches of the no longer able to sync. If you read Arlo reviews then the issues I had/have seems to be that many other people seems to deal with. I love a working Arlo and had the 1080p (still have 3 of them) wired version. I just threw one of them in the trash as after over a dozen attempts including rebooting my router I can't get it to sync. So I ordered a $ 37 Wyze camera instead.

Will Not Work During "Peak Hours"

I bought the Arlo Q camera with high expectations based on features and free 7 day video cloud storage. I spent 15 minutes setting it up and all seemed fine. However, when I subsequently tried to view the camera live and set up an activity zone I could not access the camera. After many attempts I simply gave up and called Netgear Arlo support, who told me the problem was on their end. They said they did not have the bandwith to handle the feeds from everyone's cameras, and that I could expect the cameras to not work every day during "peak hours". Well, peak hours now seems to extend to much of the day. These cameras do not have local storage, so if someone breaks into my house during these hours, I guess I'll have nothing to show police. Not good for a security setup. Returned.

I have other Arlo cams and this model is a big disappointment. It struggles to stay connected while my other 2 Arlo cams are fine. On 1080 the camera stalls endlessly so I have to reduce resolution to 720 to stop the stuttering. It may not require batteries but I find that the other cams do well under battery power, have a better picture and stay connected. I wish I had returned it. With out the 1080 resolution this camera has no value over the battery models and the mounting for the battery models is also better. The stand on this cam is restrictive especially with the power wire in the way. Arlo is a great system but this camera is a set back. Hopefully the resolution issue will be addressed.

    Camera is mediocre

The functionality design has a few issues. I have been using two of these cameras for a few months now. They are good, but... 1. I sometimes get alerts to my phone that there is activity and the recording is not available on the arlo website or on my phone. 2. I have my cameras set to record until activity stops. This feature is no where near perfect and they really need to fix this. There have been occasions when there is activity and the camera does not record all of it. It will record maybe up to 30 seconds and stop. For instance, if someone is walking in front of my house, it will record. If the person stops for a brief moment, it will stop recording and it won't start a new recording when the person begins to move again. This to me is a major flaw. The camera should wait 10-15 seconds if there is no movement before it stops, or it should start a new recording. Again, this is when the camera is set to the maximum recording level. Netgear, don't be stingy with your cloud server disk space. 3. The Arlo website can be a little slow. I have excellent internet speed, yet sometimes there is a big delay when trying to view my cameras live. 4. Zoom video quality could be better. Positives: very easy setup. You can manage the camera from their website or mobile device. Video is good quality when not zooming. Nice looking camera.

The camera is very easy to get up and running. It took longer to download the Arlo app on my phone then to get the camera up and running. I wish there was more directions on setting the camera up with the app because the entire time I was adjusting settings my email and app alerts kept going off every couple of seconds until I figured out how to set the Geofencing. Partially my fault, I could have researched on the Internet more. I must say the video is VERY good, but like a lot of people say, there is a 3-4 second lag in the video. It has to be on Arlo server side because my WiFi router is about 20 feet away with no obstructions. The only other issue is the sound. I can hear what is going on in the room (although it does sound like the sound is coming from a tunnel), but I can't seem to get it to where my voice is heard in the room. Just got it yesterday, so maybe user error in setting things up. I decided to get the "Q" model that is plugged powered because I did not want to deal with charging the battery on the other model. The power cable is plenty long at about 10-12 feet. One thing I am wondering about is how warm the camera gets. After it was running, I decided to move the camera to a new location and the camera was pretty warm. Not sure if this is normal, but I kept my receipt just in case. Overall, I would recommend this camera and after about a month if everything is gong well, I will buy another one for my rear door of my house.

I purchased the Arlo Q at the same time as a competitor product and compared the 2 side by side. The Arlo Q streams in real time with no data delays and set up was a breeze. The app, picture quality, audio, features, configuration and more are good quality for this type of product. I recommend this over all the competitors - the real time data and 2 way audio features are hard to compete with!

This was so simple to set up and works very well. It's a great way to keep an eye on my vacation home. The camera has a very nice range of view. There is a slight delay in the feed, but that doesn't bother me a bit. My internet speed is not fabulous and my wireless router is the one Verizon gave me yet this camera works just fine. I'd highly recommend it.

The Arlo Q is a much better product than the Arlo pro at least as far as the speaker is concerned. The camera met all of my needs and was very positionable and had a great night vision sound quality both in and out however just like other Arlo products geofencing does not work with Android. I would have kept this camera except the power cord had a short in it right out of the box. Also my store rarely carries more than one of any product on sale so I was unable to exchange this for the same camera again and had to "upgrade" to an Arlo Pro for which the speaker is horrible.

    Excellent Indoor Security Camera

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this camera because I needed an indoor security camera with at least minimum 1080p resolution. The picture clarity is perfect. It was even better than a 2k resolution indoor camera that I purchased (now returned). What I like about this camera is that you get notification alerts pretty quick when it detects motion or audio. Also, the Arlo app is intuitive. Very easy to use and navigate. Though the camera does have some delay in motion and audio detection (this is due to wifi), it's still an awesome camera to have at home.

This is simply a common sense answer to a wireless camera. The motion sensor, night vision, and ability to speak through the camera makes this a worth while investment

Very Fine Security Camera...Works Great With Apple

Decided to try this camera. Actually works great. Saw some people had trouble using with Apple products. I had no such problem. I have the Airport Time Capsule Router, etc. Set up was easy. Just follow the directions. I had some issues re: the microphone (but that just need the firmware update) The customer service at Arlo was great. They listened and helped me through a couple of questions. The wait time was under 2 minutes. I would highly recommend this to my Apple friends. I have it hooked up to my IMac, IPhone 6, and my Apple Pro 9.5 IPad.

The night mode works great, the image quality is great. The two-way audio is too quiet for some to hear. But my main beef is connectivity. I have two Arlo Q cameras, and the smart home stuff get their own separate router at my house. The two Arlo cameras are the only high-bandwidth devices on that router. The WiFi signal is reasonably strong where the cameras are at (I measured). Despite this, I occasionally have connectivity issues, and it takes many tries to actually get those cameras back on the WiFi network. Most recently, I was forced to give up trying to connect these cameras to the network. They are now decorative paperweights.

2 stars = Fair and my experience is short of that

I initially purchased this product off Amazon. Upon receipt of the Arlo Q unit, the microphone feature (where the user can talk through an app or web browser to the unit did not work even following a firm ware up grade After a failed attempt to resolve the issue with their support group, I returned the unit thinking it was hardware. I then bought my current unit from Best Buy. Not only do I have the same issue now with this Arlo Q (and further reading in the support forums show I am not the only one), now the unit has to be unplugged and rebooted every 24 hours for it to continue to get a live feed. If you do not physically unplug the unit every day, for some reason the Arlo Q status light says the unit is active but it is not connected. I have tried to push numerous firmware updates to the camera and the camera status says it is up to date. I have had just one instance out of many where I was able to get a somewhat helpful individual online for support, but I say helpful only in that the communication barrier was minimal. I have opened numerous tickets and either the ticket could not be resolved under and hour and I had to leave, or they keep me in a loop trying the same things over and over again that had failed to fix the problem in the past. The unit itself is great and the video quality is excellent...when it works for 24 hours. But in terms of using it as a full time security camera while away on vacation or while out for the day and looking after the dogs, this product falls well short. It is disappointing too as for the price, getting seven days of stored content is great. I wanted to give it two stars for the fact the video quality is so great and there are numerous options to be able to utilize for camera settings, but two stars was equal to "fair". This camera falls short of fair in my opinion.

Offers something invaluable: peace of mind

I live in an older apartment, where mandatory repairs happen all the time. On top of that, I just got a new puppy whom I'm afraid to leave home alone. I had been debating getting a security camera for a while, and so I finally decided to take the plunge. There were lots of options to choose from, including Nest and Amazon's Cloud Cam. I looked at these options for at least 3 days before deciding on the Arlo Q. One of the biggest factors that led to this purchase was that both Nest and Amazon essentially require you to pay $6-10 a month for very basic access to video recording. To me, this is outrageous. Why should I pay once for a camera, and then pay AGAIN for a video that MY camera has recorded? I understand there are server costs for the cloud storage, but why not allow local storage via SD card? This seemed too much like "consumer lock-in" to me, and that's a model I distrust and cannot support. To top it off, after only one year of usage your looking at paying nearly DOUBLE the original price, and that price tag keeps going up the longer you own the device. With the Arlo, I'm able to view up to 7 days worth of footage without paying an extra dime. In reality, that's all I need! When there is planned maintenance, I check in on the contractors either live or view the video on the same day. If my puppy starts crying, sound alerts notify me and I can speak to her over the two-way audio. The only issue I've had so far is with "Geofencing", which is supposed to turn alerts and recording off when an approved device is near our home. When I am home, nothing happens. However, when my wife is home and I am not home, the camera will record and alert like crazy! Her phone is on the approved list, and the camera acknowledges she is "in zone", yet the camera will still alert me. It's not a huge deal but it is annoying.

Bought this as a baby monitor for our newborn since they show it on their website as a good monitor. Well be aware that the service goes down and you are left with them telling you to wait 3-4 hours to see when it comes back up. Are they joking? Parents don’t get this expecting continuous monitoring of your child it does go out of service and you will be left with no way to wat h your children. Would not recommend as a baby monitor.

    Excellent Cam for the $$$

My only complaint was when I tried to set them up, Arlo Q couldn't read the code on my cell phone. I tried & tried. Finally got online chat session with Netgear & was told to use my PC monitor to display the code & both cams instantly worked. They were very friendly & patient with me. As for the camera review, I've owned mine for about (3) months w/o any problems at all. Very nice cam. Love the 8x zoom too. I have mine configured to send me an email every time they detect movement or sound. That particular email is then forwarded directly to my workplace email, which I monitor 8+ hrs M-F. So if my cell phone stops or is misplaced, I still get instant notifications. The peace-of-mind while I'm away from home, and while I'm asleep is well worth the cost to me. I actually only paid $129 for mine a few months ago. Appears their popularity is keeping the price up nowadays. Even on-sale they're not as good a deal as before, but still worth it IMO.

I bought one of these cameras off Amazon after seeing the great reviews - however I ultimately decided to return it. The camera itself works great, but I had a lot of issues with the mode switching. I could not get the geofencing to work with my wife's phone. I would leave for work, and it would arm - despite the fact that she was still home. Other times it would not go into disarmed mode when I returned home. The software appears to be holding this one back from being a reliable solution
