Simple, Robust, and Speedy! A Great WiFi Gateway!

Bought this to replace an older gateway that had fried due to a lightning strike. Very happy with my purchase. Setup with Cox cable was a breeze, the indicator light is obvious, easy to see, yet not blindingly bright in a dark room. The wireless connection is robust and goes to every corner in my two-story home. Speeds are as advertised. All around a great product with great attention to design.

My old Motorola surfboard modem no longer worked with my Comcast/Xfinity service. This model was listed on their website as a compatible modem for use with their service. I used curbside pick up to purchase this from Best Buy. The modem was in stock and within half an hour from online purchase to curbside pick up, I had the item with no problems at all. Set up was easy. You do have to download the Xfinity app in order to provide your MAC ID numbers to Comcast. I ran a scan with my Norton suite and Norton said that this unit provided strong encryption. All said, I'm happy with my purchase. My internet is up and running once again.

This is a great and fast modern/router combo. Setting it up is frustrating, as you have to use an app that doesn’t function well. I ended up calling the company to have them walk me through it. Would give a higher rating but Best Buy customer service was terrible. I went into the store and asked for help and was sent to the service desk, where a worker was looking through another customer’s phone. He didn’t greet us or look up for 20 mins. When I told him I needed help he told me to go to electronics but no one was back there. He yelled at another worker who walked past and we waited another 20 mins without anyone helping. I went to both customer service and the checkout desk and both were empty. After an hour I found a worker who was helping another customer. He saw us waiting but when he finished up with the other customer he just walked off and began fixing displays, occasionally glancing at us but not helping. I eventually had to ask security to find a worker and when I finally did get help the worker was rude and asked why I didn’t know about router brands and speeds (it’s his expertise, which is why I came to the store in the first place). When I went to purchase my item two workers were huddled by the counter and walked off as I approached. I had to flag down ANOTHER worker to have them ring me up. Does anyone work in these stores? It feels like no one wants to be there or do their jobs. It took over an hour to get help to purchase a single product on a day when the store was empty. It was a truly awful customer service experience.

It's too tall to fit where my previous modem/router were located. I wonder if having modem and router together will mean replacement if one goes bad. This combo seemed significantly more expensive than what I had previously. After some initial connectivity problems, it has been working fine--but if I have any problems with computer or iPad, I know I need to turn it off and back on again. Arris does make good items.

Save your self the rental fee from the cable company. I’m saving 115 dollars a year. Took out of the box plugged it in and called the cable company and game them the numbers they requested off the machine and minutes later it was ready to use. My internet is so much faster and streaming is lag free. Great purchase. It works with Antietam broadband in Maryland!

    Arris G36

This is not a review of Best Buy. This is a review of the Arris G36 working with xfinity. Best Buy was great. The modem/router combo actually dropped to a lower price and BB honored that lower price with a credit. The Arris G36 reached my door in 24 hours. I replaced a no longer supported Cisco modem from 2013 with the recomendation from xfinity as being compatible and "future-proof". I figured any purchase would be an upgrade and with the G36 being the latest and greatest I thought this was goi g to be great. When the G36 arrived I changed to the fastest plan with xfinity and gave them the modem info. I now have worse reception in a 1300 sq ft home than i did with the ten year old modem. Connections continually disconnect and reconnect, and the instructions as others have said, are not clear and you end up with a setup on the app that you dont want, just to boot up, because your on with xfinity and they want to make sure its up and running. Then you realize it is no better than a 2013 router out of the box. I dont have time to set up a user name and password to read the Arris forum to learn how to tweek this. Basically its a wireless router so the things connected to the old should connect to the new. As others advised look for something else as this is not a good product for xfinity to be pushing.

It's pretty good but not as good as the salesman suggested. It is a very fast machine. I don't have the range that he said I would plus it keeps dropping my computer and I have to re-connect several times a day. We had to have the Geek Squad come out to set it up as it was impossible to do with their instructions and their online help was useless and made it worse.

Good quality Modem-Router. Set up process was at first challenging due to Xfinity instructions being confusing. I figured it out after a few tries and have had no problems since. It's a little pricey but definitely performs as advertised.

Great item! My speed has doubled for downloads. The range of the wifi reaches my whole house and out into the yard. No more spotty connections. Will continue to stay with the arris line of modems.
