They’ve provided satisfyingly lengthy and varied playing experiences which make you want to come back for more. Mirage comes up short in every one of these areas. It lacks the memorability and depth of the last few titles, and the playtime to 100% everything in the game was comparatively shockingly short. It’s reported that Mirage was originally meant to be a Valhalla DLC rather than its own standalone entry, and it shows. As a $10-20 Valhalla DLC it would’ve made some sense. As a nearly full-priced game, it just feels a bit shallow and lazy. I’m glad I bought a physical copy, so I was able to turn around and recoup some of my money by reselling it after completing the brief playthrough. For AC completionists it’s worth running through once, but only just. Definitely wait for a deep discount on this one; it simply doesn’t justify MSRP. Hopefully the next AC title returns to the substantive meatiness that the series deserves, and that Mirage fails to deliver.
