I think AC: Rogue got a bad rap for a couple of reasons: first, because it was released on the same day as Unity (which most people know wasn't too well-received, but I won't get into that), and because it supposedly rehashed a lot of gameplay elements from AC IV: Black Flag (which is a popular title in the series). I personally found Rogue to be similar in style but not in spirit to Black Flag--which I also enjoyed--and perhaps even more enjoyable overall. There weren't any parts of the game like there are almost all the other AC titles where the game gets tedious or boring, or just too challenging (or too easy) to the point of frustration. The bottom line is that anyone who enjoys the AC games, particularly Black Flag, should have no problem enjoying Rogue.
The story is interesting and deviates from the typical storyline, which is nice. Without spoiling anything, there are a fair amount of cameos in this one, which is pretty cool. The time period may not be as familiar to people, but then I'm no history buff myself and I've never had trouble getting into AC games. I would actually give this 4.5 stars were it an option, but you get the idea.

Better than Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag

While the story is much shorter in Rogue compared to last year's Black Flag, it's a lot better and no eavesdropping missions which in itself is a huge positive. Rogue looks, sounds, plays and feels the same as Black Flag but that's a good thing. Instead of the warm tropical setting that's in Black Flag, Rogue is set in a cold, rainy, snowy and very cold atmosphere. The Naval battles are back and better than in Black Flag. There's also so much side content and collectables that it surpasses Black Flag. Add in a good modern day story and the on-disc Naval campaign (Shay's fleet) and you'll easily have more to do than in Black Flag. And of course, if that wasn't enough, for the first time ever in the Assassin's Creed franchise, you play as a Templar Shay Cormac. Overall, a great game and the better AC game this year.

This game is essentially Black Flag, with a few pros and cons. The scenery is more dynamic, but not nearly as captivating or beautiful. The game play is identical, but with a rifle and fireworks, not unlike those in the Freedom Cry DLC. The story isn't as charming or interesting, despite the high hopes we all had considering this is Ubisoft's chance to give the Templar side of the story. The modern day is lacking for that reason, as well.
Ultimately, it still has the amazing naval battles, whaling, exploration, and shanties, but none of the feeling of joyful freedom that came with the Caribbean setting. While black flag was all about the theme "A good life, but a short one," this game is more about killing and anger.

When Assassin's Creed Rogue came out I initially didn't buy it day 1 due to me already having a next gen console and was super excited to play Unity instead. I was horribly disappointed by Unity unfortunately. But recently I decided to go back on my 360 and play a few games I never got to play or finish. That's when I started playing Rogue and it surprised me at how much more fun I had playing Rogue than Unity and how the main character Shay Cormack was more realistic and likeable than the main protagonist Arno in Unity. The gameplay is pretty much a successor to Assassin's Creed 4 so you will pretty much feel comfortable playing this game off the bat. But that's when this game feels more like a expansion than an actual triple A title due to the fact it's really just a reskin of AC 4 than a original AC game. Overall great game but not worth full retail price.

Assassin's Creed Rogue is an amazing game and it's interesting to see how Shay is different than other characters in the other Assassin's Creed games. I can't wait to see how this game turns out.

AC Rogue is one of the best titles in the Assassin's Creed series. It's not quite as solid as ACII, Black Flag, or Syndicate, but it easily holds it own against the best games in the franchise. It also helps to flesh out the mythos of series and finally see things from a perspective other than the Assassin's. There's plenty to do, ship combat, and all of the hallmarks of the AC games which adds up to many hours of fun. As a fan of the series this game is a must own.

Assassin's Creed Rogue continues the Assassin's Creed series as the 7th installment. It comes right after Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag and serves as a prequel to Assassin's Creed 3. Much like Black Flag, it features a strong Naval concept, while also mixing in numerous land-side missions, and it also brings back the income perk, which was a great/big part of older installments. I haven't complete the game yet, but it has an interesting storyline thus far and I am looking forward to finishing it.

This game takes advantage of the assassin's loyalty being tested. It is the story of an assassin turned templar. The game looks gorgeous for a last-gen game, running the same engine as Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. What I have the most complaints about are the lack of NPCs in the game due to limits with the hardware launched. Because of the hardware, it limits the game and I would like to see a port to current gen systems soon.

This is great to play before playing Unity since if you find all the hidden collectables there is so much information that can be applied to the next game. Spoiler* The ending of this game basically leads into the story of Arno (main character of unity) and its amazing to see the stories connect in such a personal way to each other.

You'd think that the last Assassin's Creed on previous gen systems would be just a phone in. Think again. This is arguably one of the most realized Assassin's Creed games since Part 2. Also I won't spoil the hook but If you're a fan It's more than worth a playthrough.
