Astral Chain is a very good action game for the Nintendo Switch. It has a unique combat style that takes a second to get your head around, but when it clicks, is very satisfying and fun. It has a great art style, cool looking world, and a fairly interesting story.

Platinum is known for delivering exceptional action games & Astal Chain is no different. While it features the over-the-top action that only Platinum can, it also offers exploration, investigation, and more. When you're not fighting the baddies, you have a base of operations to explore, secrets to find, puzzles to solve, etc. It's an excellent package. In addition, the visuals are some of the best that I've seen on the Nintendo Switch. They're not realistic, they're very stylized, and that works very well for what kind of game Astral Chain is. If you have a Nintendo Switch, buy this game ASAP.

I was very satisfied with this game, very simple controls but used in a very creative way. Combat is always fun, and the story wasn’t half bad either

I absolutely adore this game. The artwork, story, and soundtrack of Astral Chain are amazing. There are in-game achievements and rewards that keep the replay value high. When replaying each chapter, I discover something new and improve my chapter score. There is a co-op mode for couch co-op. I enjoy the external and internal case cover art. My physical copy arrived in excellent condition and the shipping was fast. I highly recommend purchasing this game and other products from BestBuy.

Astral Chain is a fantastic exclusive for the Nintendo Switch. Great story, combat, soundtrack and visuals. I'm not a huge fan of many Platinum games, but this is definitely one of their greatest. If you're a fan of fun, good story, awesome music and fighting, this is for you.

Astral Chain is perhaps Platinum's finest work to date, incorporating everything they've learned since their major debut a decade ago with Bayonetta. The action is still stylish, accessible yet deep, and turned up to 11. However, the overall mechanics outside the game also lend themselves to a more complete package instead of herding the player through empty corridors to the next fight. If you're looking for a great action title or just your next major Switch purchase, Astral Chain should be it.

For those who have no idea what this game is it is best described as a Hack n' Slash/Beat em-up/Shoot em-up game that likes to at times take a break and focus on detective work similar to a game like Detroit where you gather clues and information before proceeding through a level. These detective instances can be as long as you are curious of your environment and are usually the starting point when going into a level and is followed by the combat that is the central focus of this game. If this sounds like your type of game then you are in for a treat as this game takes the style and makes it satisfying especially with it's own unique mechanic that grants you more options than just button mashing. For the most part how the game plays is extremely satisfying, especially once you begin mastering the added mechanics that make this game unique. You're given a Legion that you can control either as an auto-attack AI, fully control the movement of at the expense of controlling the camera, as an addition to your chain of attacks to deliver a strong blow, or (again once you get a hang of every utility the game offers for you) all of the above. This Legion is linked to you via a chain which you can wrap around enemies to bind them in place for a moment or use to springboard off of as you pull yourself towards your Legion along this chain. It takes a bit to familiarize yourself with controlling it, but once you do the possibilities expand and you find yourself playing a game you've never played before. Now that you got the gist of what you do in the game and how it makes for your experience, it's time to discuss the faults of the game that prevent it from being the perfect experience it could easily have been and making you aware of what you're probably not going to like. First of all as the Legion is a second weapon at your dispense, controlling 2 things at once can make a hectic fight feel even more hectic, especially when your Legion is just getting knocked around or isn't quite moving as precise as you want it to nor does it always land a blow when you use it in your string of attacks as mentioned earlier. The main reason behind the frustrating control of your Legion would be the fault of the camera and how it operates particularly during. Your camera's position is ultimately what determines how your Legion moves and given the game locks-onto enemies (who of course move and dash respectively during combat) all it takes is an enemy to move a few feet towards you and now your Legion isn't going in the direction you were pressing it to go and more importantly intending for it to go. This makes wrapping around enemies frustrating especially in hectic fights with more than 3 enemies engaged at a time; also given the chain doesn't necessarily seem to have a consistency to snap onto an enemy and stay on top of that makes attempting a seemingly crucial, centralized feature frustrating to use in a lot of instances. Continuing with the lock-on given you change targets with the same input as the camera (right analog) when you're trying to get a better view of what's around/behind you you'll accidentally be switching targets when you don't want to which will ultimately lead you into swinging or shooting as nothing as it sometimes does even when you're locked-onto the correct target. Ultimately there are going to be moments where you should be hitting something, but you aren't. As for avoiding enemy attacks and stopping enemies there's fault in that too as the game doesn't make for a nicely-tuned way of assuring your dodges are successful as most other games do. You'll be taught in the game that if you dodge an attack just before it hits, you can swing back with a fury of blows. However there'll be times where even if you perfect dodge following up with an attack will only result in you getting hit and knocked off your feet as the game will not isolate your battles amongst individual enemies so if you got 2 enemies on you and they both swing at you one slightly later than the other, dodging will only mean you moved into the other enemy's attack and trying to attack is as futile as trying to dodge both attacks at once. Your attacks barely have momentum to them too so if you deal with a faster enemy don't ever expect to land a full series of attacks as hardly anything will make them flinch and hold them back from them knocking you to the ground or flinch with 1 or multiple hit(s.) If these things get touched-up in future updates then I'd have no complaints about this game. The more technical you can be the more satisfying playing gets. They do give you a "sparring" option in the Training Room in the HQ building and you can choose from various enemy types to practice on; use this to brush up on your skill and familiarity of the combat of the game. It's definitely a useful option that even someone like me who usually just picks up, plays, learns along the way, and avoids training modes in games even resorted to, invested in, and found great use in. As a wrap up the game despite the flaws mentioned (in detailed, horrendous length) is actually very comfortable and satisfying. From the genre it's definitely something I'd strongly recommend. While it's downfalls are frustrating it doesn't make completion feel impossible and it's unique use of the Legion makes for a feeling of a fresh new game that you've never played before. I've given a 4/5 stars as it's not perfect, but to put the frustration of the flaws in perspective in a 10-scale rating I can't put it higher than an 8/10 as 9/10 would be undermining the effect of those flaws.

Without a doubt, this is Platinum Games' best creation to date. So good it's their only game to reach #1 on the sales charts. +You can choose one of several ways to play. There's an option to focus on story, for easy gameplay, for a challenge, or slam against a wall until you get good. And all of these options are available from the start. +In-depth combat. Nail a few basics and you can get through the game. Or unlock moves and travel down the rabbit hole of creating chains of attacks that look beautiful when done correctly. +You can see how good you really are by seeing mission rankings. (only on the two hardest difficulties) +Costumes and colors to unlock by playing the game, exploring, or doing menu work. You're rewarded for trying all the things available to you. +Fantastic music. +Portable. I can't stress this enough. You can play this on the go. There really is only one bad thing I can say about this game. -You can and will be juggled by enemies if you're not careful. Especially when facing groups of enemies. This is even worse when you become stunned. Would I recommend this? With all the gusto I can muster. Nintendo gave Platinum Games a home when everyone else turned them away. And they are showing how just grateful they are. This game is sitting at a solid 8 and 9 across the board for a reason.

I went into this game blind/not having watched any trailers/gameplay. So I was expecting Bayonetta or DMC like gameplay. Which is kinda accurate. Starting with the negative, the game doesn't run at 60fps which is a real bummer for a action game like this, the framerate isn't always stable either. But beyond that you have a game with 3 difficulty levels but it expect you to play on Platninum which is the game's normal mode. It's where you'll unlock more things, be ranked and have an actual fair challenge. The game is not like Platinum's other outings, the combat starts out very, basic. You get a 3 hit combo + a optional weapon but as you play it greatly opens up and your hands will be all over your controller. Buttons for, summoning & holding to move your legion, button to change legion, button to summon/call legion for a team action, an attack button, change weapon button, roll etc. Tie enemies up with your legion's chain, have your legion pull you to it- either to close gaps or strike enemies as you fly by. You can ride on one legion, use another to shoot arrows at distant targets, perform team combos. The other negative that I can think of is, there IS a co-op mode but it's VERY odd. You are forced to use split joycons, so each player gets one joycon and the game's functions are literally split between you two. Player one can attack, change weapons, roll, call the legion over for a team-attack and player 2...controls the camera, has to hold a button to move, only attacks when they're not moving, can pull the protagonist to it and ...yeah it's confusing. Overall, it's a great game and has a lot more to offer than you might think. It's not just an action game it genuinely tries to build the world and I think it's a grand time.

Seriously amazing and underrated game/movie thing... it's a highly cinematic and curated roller coaster ride of complex and epic action, and basically sold me on Platinum Games. It takes some time to get used to controlling TWO characters at once, because you have your protag, and you can also hold a button to manually move your Legion with the other joystick- while also moving your protag if you want to, allowing you to do pincer attacks and wrap up enemies faster to slow them down. I like to describe this as "Pokemon Ranger on crack" because of that mechanic. Definitely seems like something that's "not hard to pick up, difficult to master" If you've played other Platinum Games made prior to this one, you can definitely see that they took mechanics from here and there that they had before and incorporated them into this one for an even greater experience. Like one Legion has a slicing mode in slowed time just like in Metal Gear Rising, which is also one of the funnest games I've played. I also really like the other chars who are your friends/family. ...Except your sibling is kind of a dick... they're just super angry for some reason! The game looks beautiful too, I can't believe it's on Switch...
