All the settings you need are on the adapter it comes with. Easy to adjust/balance game play volume and chat volume to your liking. So you can turn down/up the people you game with online and turn down/up gameplay sound so you can hear footsteps, gunshots, etc and hear where people are at: above or below you on different floors or to the left or right behind walls and closed doors. People I play with say my mic sounds great and I get no echo at all. After you find the balance of sound you like, when you adjust the volume it keeps the same balance of sound. The adapter has a mute button to quickly mute your mic if your wife/girlfriend/parents start complaining that you game to much lol. Only thing I didn't like are the earpads it comes with. I bought different ones for $50 a bit much imo. The A50 earpads are compatible with these A40's. I bought black leather earpads for the A50 headset and swapped them with what these A40's came with. If these are in your budget I highly recommend them. The pic of the green ear pads are the ones the headset came with out of the box, the black ones are the ones I bought for $50. Again the black ones are boxed for the A50 headset and are compatible with the A40. All the magnets on the back of the black earpads dont match up perfectly but they stay on with no problems posted a pic of the headset held upside down and the earpad staying on. Did this just because the boxing said A50. Maybe you can find a pair already boxed with black leather earpads, but I bought what was store that day.

I have used Turtle Beach headsets for gaming for many years. I got tired of the earpiece breaking off the adjustment band to just have the whole piece hanging by the wires. Started to look into different headsets and was recommended Astro's by a friend online. Decided to buy one. First impressions were good. The mixamp is a lot like the turtle beach controller adapter, except way better. It has a main volume knob on the bottom, and then a really nice mixer between game volume and chat volume on the front with an LED light that moves to show the amount applied to either side. Has a mute button on the bottom of the volume knob, which I love having the mute right there on the controller and not inline like a lot of other versions or having to flip up the mic to mute. There is also 3 EQ presets you can select from, and as with the game/chat mixer, the LED's signify which EQ setting you are on. The headset seems to be really good quality construction, and has a flexible boom mic. What I really like about it is the adjustment brackets are made of metal instead of plastic, so I don't see them breaking like all of my Turtle Beaches have. I have a pretty large head, and the headset fits a little snug, but comfortably. The cups are large enough to completely cover most ears. I have longer ears so they don't cover completely but most of the way. The mic clarity seems to be really good. I have gotten a lot of comments on how good and clear my mic sounds online. The sound quality is great. No, it doesn't give earth shattering bass like there is a subwoofer in your head, but It is very well blended and the directional sounds are on point. Very easy to hear where footsteps are coming from in the game, and I haven't had one disappointment in the sound quality yet in the month I have been using them. After the month of use though, there are some things that stand out as an annoyance. The mixamp cord to the headset is too short. It is just long enough to set the controller down next to you and it's already stretched out so any head movements are hindered and easy to forget so the controller goes flying if you make any sudden head movements. There is no way to counter that because the cord is hard wired into the mixamp, and not changeable. Also the input jack on the headset is at a terrible angle and is pointed straight up and down so the plug will sometimes rub into your shoulder while gaming. It's a minor annoyance, but enough that it should be addressed. Also included with the headset is a separate cable to use the headset with your phone or other devices with a headphone jack. Cable has an inline mute button. Overall is a great headset and is well worth it. Only 4/5 stars though for the minor annoyances I listed above.

To start off, I previously owned the Turtle Beach XO Sevens and loved the sound quality. I also thought they were very comfortable to use over 3 -6 hour gaming sessions as a person who wears glasses. This is why I was hoping the these Astros for $200 would atleast live up to that being as my Turtle Beaches where only $120... That wasnt that case as far as audio quality goes. Let me also mention I am a Audio Engineer by degree. I found the astro with the M80 mixamp to have a very muddy mix. The low end was too exaggerated no matter which of the 3 mixer settings I selected. It was almost like the footsteps had a drum sound to them for every step. The mid high to high frequencies weren't accentuated enough to give the environment from the perception my character in PUBG, to feel like I was in a open space when I'm running through a open field or through the desert. The Turtle Beaches got the EQs right as far as this goes. Now, I decided to switch over to Astro's due to the cheap plastic that Turtle Beaches use. Astros build quality was definitely better from my experience. Overall, the Astro a40's werent bad as far as comfortability and build quality goes, but with this particular package paired with the M80 mixamp it fell short. Its definitely not worth the $200.

Astro has established itself as one of the top brands to buy in gaming headsets, but having been around a few years now, I find no significant advancements or improvements. The design itself hasn't changed in 3 generations, while the same tired design continues to be recycled to the next generation, in my opinion. So, I purchased these headsets already having owned the gen 2 a40 version thinking it would be a noticeable improvement. My gen 2 headsets were having mic and sound intermittent and static issues only having them for about 18 months. The good news is I purchased the new Gen 3 headsets at a decent bargain at $149 during a sale. I actually tried the Turtle Beach Elite Pro and found them to be better sounding and better quality, however the TB Elite Pro headsets missed a few things on design, too many wires and additional parts to buy. So I reverted to the Astro A40. TB is stepping up and I'm looking forward to the next iteration, Astro needs to do the same and still keep the price affordable. I bought these with conflicting opinion, as far as design, they are still the best headsets, keeping things simple with Mixamp for Xbox One included is good enough, but fails in new innovation. Between the TB Elite Pro and Astro A50, I felt the TB's provided better surround sound and comfort with noticeable premium feel. The Astros demonstrated no improvements from the Gen 2 sets while the premium feel is lacking when compared to the TB Elite Pro. The saving grace is at $149 price point, it's a bargain enough.

I purchased this headset after owning several lower end headsets. I was very hesitant to spend so much on a gaming headset. Once they arrived I was extremely happy with the purchase! The build quality is outstanding. They are a bit heafty but I wouldn't say it interferes with the comfort. I've worn these for several hours and my ears never got sore. All of the included cables are very high quality. In my opinion they get plenty loud for gaming, and they're great for listenening to music or watching movies on your mobile devices. All of my friends could instantly tell a big difference in the mic quality. They all reported big improvements in clarity and quality. The only negative I can give this headset is the color scheme. These things are UGLY out of the box. I considered the A40s with the mixamp pro, but I didn't really feel any better about the solid white color scheme. I opted to buy the mod kit for the A40s in Red and Black. It's a huge upgrade in comfort and aesthetics with "leatherish" ear cuffs and closed back speaker tags, plus they include a color matching noise canceling mic. This is a great headset and I expect that it will last a long time. If your on the fence about the price they are well worth the price! Fit and finish are excellent. I would absolutely recommend this headset to anyone looking for the best.

I bought these after trying on several headphones at best buy. They are extremely comfortable and I decided to pay the higher price than others for sale. Although comfortable and feeling very solid, I was unhappy with the sound. Max volume was not as loud as I would expect from the price, even with chat turned down. Installation was easy, but even after updating the controller, sound would occasionally sputter. I guess I might have expected more since I paid $100 more than the ones I went to originally buy. The biggest gripe was the fact that the wire is hardwired into the controller module. So if you dont wan't to use the headphones, you will still have a wire connected unless you take off the sound controller. My concern is you can't replace the wire down the road if it goes bad or shorts. So back it went and replaced it with Earforce XO Four Stealth. Although not as comfortable, the Earforce was louder, no sound drops and the cord plugs into the control module so I can unplug it when not in use.

These have been the best headset I've owned. I've gone through the low-end sets, TB's, and Triton, and these have been the best set for the money. Yes they are a little pricey, but Turtles don't last for what they charge, and while my Tritons had the best sound with true surround sound, they were more expensive and they didn't last either. These have great sound, they are really comfortable once you get them adjusted, and the mic has good pickup without being overly sensitive. I really like the ability to adjust the sound volume and mic on the controller instead of trying to memorize and feel around on the headset while I'm gaming. Total plus! My only issue with them would be the warning they have about not having the Mixamp plugged into the controller while you do the update. The warning is very small and not right up front at the beginning of the instructions. (If you miss it and do the update, your headphones won't work. Don't freak out, just turn off the console, unplug the Mixamp from the controller, and then turn the console back on. Once it is up and running, plug the Mixamp back in. Also, make sure the plug is REALLY plugged into the headphones. It has a hard push and then click.) Other than those little quirks, these are fantastic headphones and mic combo.

These are a bit pricey, but I game a lot and wanted something comfortable. The ear muffs on this headset are great, very comfortable, however, I don't know if it's cause of my head size (I didn't think my head was THAT big), but after a few hours the headset feels like its squishing my skull and requires a lot of adjustment. The plugin adapter "mix amp" is useful for being able to adjust ratios of game sound to party chat on Xbox Live. I don't mess with the EQ settings as there's only really 3 settings, and they're kind of generic, you can't do any fine tuning with them. I'm pretty sure you can with an external Mix Amp, but that's too bulky for me and costs extra. Sound quality is good for the most part, although sometimes I hear slight audio distortions when I'm in party chat with friends, but when unplugging the adapter and plugging it back in, it resolves itself. I have no idea if this is because of Xbox Live or not, but it's only a minor nuisance, although I shouldn't be having it.

Definitely 2.5 to 3 star rating. Especially considering the price. The headset gets the job done for those first person shooters and to hear the cracks of the sticks being stepped on behind you. Padding on the ear is definitely the most comfortable I've dealt with for a gaming headset. The cord that plugs into the controller is under one of the ear pieces, and when lying on ones side it jabs into your shoulder, annoying but tolerable. The MixAmp M80, is nothing special. I like my games loud, especially when playing FPS's and the sound isn't loud enough. It has 3 EQ modes, which without googling, you won't know what each one does because the instruction manual doesn't tell you anything about them. Have used a better "mixamp" type of attachment, on another headset... turtle beach. Guess it is up to what you like. I prefer the other brand if you know what I mean...but it is the lightest headset I own.

Purchased this and from the first day I noticed the ear muffs missing from the package. the batteries die quick. Makes the controller heavier. The cord ALWAYS gets tangled up very annoying. the design has sharp edging, not fun bumping your knuckles/hand against it. The sound was a little staticky. And 7th just the over all of the headset stunk lol. I would have to say the microphone was the best part. The flexibility of the mic was great. I did buy the upgraded one thats white and it’s connected to the mixer which runs a fiber optic line straight to the back of the Console it’s Dolby surround sound and I have to say it sounds so good and so comfy and no more of the battles dying fast. It’s the A40 amp mix pro.

My SON AKA (Mr.Picky) HAS NOT SAID A BAD THING ABOUT THIS HEADSET....AND AFTER DEALING WITH HIS EXTENSIVE ARRAY OF ELECTRONIC AND COMPUTER GIZMOS....and AN OCCASIONAL MEME THROWN IN FOR GOOD MEASURE (What Planet is he from,.I'm wondering) I DETECTED A SENSE OF UPHORIA AS HE ZONED OUT AND TUNES INTO HIS COD AND BATTLEFIELD. THESE WERE WELL WORTH THE PRICE AND THE CREME DE LA CREME WAS THAT THE SHELF PRICE WAS ACTUALLY LOWER THAN THE ON-LINE PRICE SO I SAVED AN ADDITIONAL $10. LET'S BE REALISTIC HERE....YOU CAN BUY FIVE $20 PIECES OF JUNK THAT LAST A COUPLE MONTHS EACH or STEP UP AND "BE THE MAN" and MAKE A SOLID PURCHASE WITH THESE ASTROS I WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THESE WILL REQUIRE YOU TO PURCHASE A MIX AMP TO USE IT WITH PC.. I WONDER WHY COULDN'T THEY JUST OFFER ONE HEADSET WITH BOTH FUNCTIONALITY BUILT IN....FOR A BIT MORE $$ BECAUSE THEY KNOW KIDS WILL NEED TO USE GOOD HEADSETS FOR BOTH???

I had a Turtle Beach Elite Pro that the audio cable went bad on and I had to constantly keep twisting the cable to get a good connection even though it was $200 and just over a year old. This is my first Astro (always preferred Turtle Beach previously) and so far the flat cable seems to resist any twisting issues and it includes the USB attached controls for mute and volume adjustments, which costs an extra $50 for the Turtle Beach equivalent. I still like both companies overall, but I think this Astro A40 is a good value for the money and I have had no issues so far. For those who say to go wireless to avoid this cable problem, i play too long at a stretch where battery life is a constant issue for any wireless models :)

All of astro’s headset products are all the same, they work perfectly with sound and quality. But when it comes to the cords and wires they don’t deliver what they promise and stand in the way of making it a 5 out of 5 stars. I’ve gotten a warrenty on them and have to renew it every 1-2 years because the wires. The problem is that if you bend them a little bit even if it’s by accident they will completely cut out, and they can easily break, and good thing they come with a backup. But the backup didn’t even last me a week. I don’t know if it’s just me who is having the problems, but just be aware and take good care.

This headset has improved my ability to hear specific sounds or actions within the videogame that may not be picked up with a less expensive headset or by just using your tv or surround sound speakers. The headphones provide for both left/right ear specific sounds so you can pinpoint where certain things are coming from. There is a limitation on the volume you can set it to, although this is probably a good thing to prevent any adverse affect to long-term hearing. It is important to note that I bought this while it was on sale for around $150.00 as it generally goes for around $200.00. It is a wired headset to your controller, so you don't have to worry about charging the headset or having it run out while having a long-playing session.

Xbox: Xbox One X Had to power cycle the xbox to get them to connect so if they arent the first time try that. The volume preset options dont really seem very different and I wish you could toggle chat volume vs. game volume at the headset. Doesn’t seem to be a way if there is it is not intuitive. I do this through the xbox and it’s fine. The cord is unneccessarily short, I like wired headsets since the audio is usually crisper but this one’s cable is very short. Overall: Sound Quality - great Features - good Appearance - great Comfort - great (seriously the most comfortable headset I’ve owned and I own 5 other gaming headsets) Cable length - mediocre

These are rated high for a reason. They are the best gaming headset I have ever used and I have owned them all. I purchased the top of the line Astros but I have always had problems with the mic and having to speak louder than normal for people to hear me. This is my second pair of these and other gamers hearing me has never been a problem even when I have to speak low so not to wake up the whole house. Purchase, you will not be sorry. Tip: Always purchase the 2 year warranty, All gaming headsets are subject to having problems between the 1st and 2nd year if used a lot and Best Buy will replace with new ones if this happens. So no matter how much you baby these you should purchase the warranty.

I used this headset for the last year and recently the connection between mic and the headset is starting to go out. I wouldn't be concerned if my friend who encouraged me to get the headset didn't have the exact same problem. Until this issue I really liked the headset. It was working great in both my xbox one and pc. Sound is fine the mic sound quality was fine. But now for people to hear me I have to fuss around with the mic until it has a sold connection again. $150 isn't a lot for a headset and I got over a year out of it, but for someone who feels like they are making a larger investment be warned you might want to look into other brands.

I was originally going to by another brand recommended by friends. A BB associate, however, asked if I needed help and after a short, friendly discussion recommended this headset instead of the other brand even though they cost $50.00 more. Being a gamer himself, he recommended this set as the ear pieces would be more comfortable after a long period of gaming. After daily wear for over a month, I could not agree more. Being powered by the controller batteries instead of a separate power source is also a big plus. Sound is exceptionally clear and game/chat volumes are easily adjustable.

Overall best headset for the price. I tried a few different headsets before I settled on these. I tried a pair of turtle beaches and returned them (uncomfortable). I then tried a pair of lucid sounds and returned after a week ( these were great, awesome sound/bass, comfortable, but were a little too heavy and wanted to fall off my head). If your as picky as me, then get a pair of Astros. I gave these Astros 4 stars only because I have to unplug them and plug them back in to my remote, because the chat/voice sound disappears for some reason. Other than that these are the perfect package.

Good headset overall but there are many other options that are less expensive. The M80 mix amp is not needed if you have a 3.5mm headphone jack on your controller. Most people do because it was added a few years ago. The EQ modes are really worthless as only one is worth using and with Windows Sonic and Dolby Atmos you don’t want to adjust the sound. I exchanged these for the Plantrinics Rig 500 Pro HX for $79 and actually like them better.
