I could just leave the initial subject. But I'll expand some.
The microphone is terrible. On XB1 everyone I teamed with said it crackled. I literally had to put the mic in my mouth for it to function. And even then I still had to mute myself at times. The stock microphone is better.
I bought the set November 7th. December 13th, it popped in the middle of a game and died. Yeah, that's right. The whole thing short circuited and died after owning it for 36 days. Oh and by the way, I work ~60 hours a week. So it's not like I have a ton of gaming time. These died from limited use in limited time.
Bottom line. Go burn $200. Or buy these. Both activities are equally productive.

They sound great the only thing I don't like is the M80 adapter. It started acting up and had to get an echange. Now I'm saving for a set of the TR models which don't have that issue

My Turtle Beach headphones that I had for my PS3 sounded better than these and were $50 cheaper. Switched to these when I got my Xbox One and I'm disappointed.

Yeah, they're comfy, but their is no outstanding difference in quality from Turtle Beaches, or even the Xbox headsets.

The first headphones I ever bought for gaming were Turtle Beach PX22's that were made (more or less) to be used with the previous gen consoles (360, ps3). I thought they were pretty decent, considering I paid $60-70 for them. These were a bit more expensive, but I got them on sale along with a GCU discount so it definitely made the upgrade worth it. The sound quality is noticeably better. Sounds are more distinct and the bass and treble are more defined. The microphone quality is pretty similiar; however, the astro a40's don't come with a pop filter on the microphone (which is necessary if you don't want to seem like you're spitting at people while you talk). I just took the one from the PX22's and slipped it over the A40 mic.
The weight of the A40's is decent, but feels light on your head. PX22's were light because of the build materials. The A40's feel more solid and durable while also maintaining lightness after prolonged use. The M80 mixamp that comes with it doesn't perform as well as the turtle beach xbox one headset adapter mainly because there's no mic monitoring/voice feedback when you speak into the microphone. That might not be a deal breaker for some, but I've gotten used to having the feedback when I'm in party chat. The M80 has more options for audio tuning, so if I'm watching shows via my Xbox One I might switch to the M80, but in general the TB adapter is more than adequate.
Overall, combining the TB adapter and A40 headset is a huge win. (Yes, two different brands, but what can I say?)
