I am very happy with this headset. The sound quality is excellent and the volume is plenty loud enough for me. The microphone works perfectly and can be detached completely when not in use or just moved up out of the way. It is a little expensive to be sure but if you want a good quality headset with 5.1 surround you cannot go wrong selecting this headset. You do need to update the headset when you first get it to make sure you have the latest firmware. I chose this one over the wireless headset mainly because of the cost. I was a little concerned about cord length but it is plenty long enough. There is a long cord that connects the amp to the xbox and then a shorter cord from the amp to the headset. Both work fine for me. The volume control allows you to increase/decrease the chat/game sounds, adjusting the level from one to the other without increasing/decreasing overall volume. This is done via a large dial that you just move from game to chat. The middle setting is a perfect balance but I have found that I tend to move it more toward the chat setting when in a party, just for extra clarity. There are two buttons on the amp. One is to switch between 4 different presets and the other is to toggle Dolby on/off.

I see why these a40's are #1. The quality and comfort level is BARNONE to any maker out there!. I do wish they were cheaper, but you have to pay for quality. The ONLY downfall has to be that..... you cant hook up to both X1 and PC "and" use mic on both. It hooks up to X1 with optic cable and gets mic from usb cable that can goto X1 or PC

This is a great headset with the mix amp and with out. It's pretty expensive But it's very good Quality. There so much you can do with the mix amp. The sound quality is amazing! If it's to expensive for you, you can buy the headset by it self for like $100 cheaper and then you can save up for the mix amp later.

I have to say, these are WONDERFUL and I was not expecting them to react so well. There is something to be said about having an amp in front of your headphones, and an equalizer on top of that. The headphones are crystal clear, block amazingly well, and feel SPECTACULAR. For me, I like to sound check to Ori and Halo 4 (for Xbox). Ori has great orchestral range while hiding low tones that have otherwise caused static on other $100+ pairs. Halo 4 has the beautiful vocals at the intro as well as large explosions and talking AI, to test the headphones for their ability to handle the gambit. The final thing I will mention is that you will have two hefty cords coming from your machine to the amp (optical and micro-usb for power). I, personally, don't mind them because it means a better signal than compressed wi-fi (look it up if you didn't know) necessary to send it through your controller. If you're willing to spend $150, spend the extra $100 and you won't ever look back!

The sound quality is superb. The comfortability is off the charts. The wires are not too much. The mix amp is very easy to understand and very simple to use. The mic is also another great aspect of this headset. All in all I am very happy with my purchase and love his headset.

I’ve been back and forth about spending the money to buy the A40s for about a year or two. I have owned top of the line Turtle Beach headsets and I have used the Astro A10s and A20s, but I can honestly say these A40 are unreal. They change the game and give you a whole new gaming experience. The sound is so crisp and puts you in the game. The surround sound the A40s provide will give you a competitive advantage over other opponents. I love this headset and i dont know why I waited to pull the trigger. Sound quality is far superior to any other headset. The A40s are very comfortable for me to wear for an extended time. My only negative to the A40s is I wish they extended a little more for my big head. They fit and cover my ears and are comfortable, but it’s very close.

I’ve had these for about a week after returning a different headset and I am completely satisfied with these A40s with the mixamp. After hours of playing at a time the headset remains comfortable. My friends say I sound nice and clear in the party chat which makes me wonder if the people with issues didn’t upgrade the firmware. I also read to put the mic on streamer mode and that helps as well. The command center program is easy to use on the PC and comes with all the wires you need. I have Corsair Voids for my PC but I’m thinking about using this when I want to game because they sound a lot better. The surround sound is also immersive and spot on. I’m glad I spent an extra $100 from the returned pair for this higher quality.

My first thoughts about this headset is the comfort and build quality! These are extremely comfortable and feels very durable. The build is great. The sleek design is an immediate eye catcher. The sound quality is superb. There is an excellent range of customizability. The ability to be able to access the ASTRO Command Center allows me to customize the equalizer setting to however I please. I have this headset paired with the mod-kit offered by ASTRO. It allows background noise cancellation. The microphone blocks background noise very very well. I love this headset & wouldn't pick any other one! If you are on the edge between the A50s or these, grab these!

I purchased one for myself about two years ago, still works great with no problem. Friend of mine took a look at them and really liked them. This second pair is a gift to him for his BD. He’s been having it for 5 months and he is enjoying them. No problem with the headset what’s no ever. Pros -Comfortable level is great. I sometimes play 3-4 hour sessions with no problem. -Head cushions don’t make my ears hot like other headsets do. Major plus -Audio quality is awesome mostly play shooters and have no problem pin pointing directions of the shots. -Setup is quick and simple even if you don’t follow the directions it’s pretty straight forward. -You can customize your audio settings by plugging in your hub to your computer and downloading the Astro app to customize your levels for a more personalized experience. I have done this for when I play online shooters compared to when I play adventure games. -If you are using this to play a good amount of distant from the screen it’s great long wires and will have no problem moving the Hub. Cons. (Most are just preference of mine and not really a big issue on the product) -Wires that comes with the device I feel are extremely long. Should have came with maybe a second wire with half the length. As a gamer most of us have our setup and play a few feet from the screen or setup. -Only comes in one color, wished they really had more color options. Also maybe released a few limited edition such as a halo, battlefield, COD, something different besides this just one color. -Noise level coming out the head set is pretty load if you have the volume 60% up. People around you can pretty much hear all the chatter. You can purchase a Mod kit that helps with this. -Mod kit most store that has this headset for sale don’t have the mod kit. It was a pain to try and get one myself at the time of purchase. Overall the quality of the headset is great. If you don’t mind having the wires compared to the wireless version than it’s really awesome product. With a wire Product no need to worry about battery levels so that’s a good thing.

I upgraded to the Astro A40's a few years ago from the Roccat Kave headset which was a true 5.1 set up. After trying several brands/ models the A40 was that headset that met my needs. Recently my original A40 mix amp started having problems that I blame on myself from knocking the amp off the desk one time too many. Instead of just replacing the mix amp I decided to go ahead and just and spend some coin and get the TR model and I really wanted the white and gray headset to. Adjustments can be made on the mix amp on the fly and with the TR model there's software to further tune to your preferences. As many of people have stated these are not audiophile headsets. If you are ready to drop the bucks and move up from those Wally World $20 cans your wearing now you won't be disappointed.

I got this headset to replace a Turtle Beach headset I had for a few months. The Turtle Beach headset was uncomfortable after about an hour of use, but the Astros are absolutely amazing. They are comfortable for long gaming sessions, the built in equalizer allows for adjusting the headset to sound how I want it to, and I'm even able to hook my speakers up through it so I can use them easily without having to change any settings on my PC. Would definitely recommend for anyone who plays games for an extended period of time.

The only headset that has lasted the longest. The sound is great. Not a fan of the white as they get dirty pretty quick.

I purchased this headset to use with my Xbox one and PS4. I originally purchased the A50's, but returned them for these. They were heavy, and I actually prefer the separate mixamp compared to the built in one on the a50. The sound quality of these is fantastic! The mixamp works wonderfully. The biggest draw back to any of the Astro headsets is that the mixamp is not compatible with PS4 (or vice versa if you buy the PS4 set). You can use them for game audio on the PS4 but not for chat. You can plug the headset directly into the controller, but that really defeats the purpose of this set. I ended up buying a PS4 mixamp online for relatively cheap, and some longer cables. I was skeptical about spending the money on these at first, but well worth it!

This headset is great for new to older players, amazing sound quality and great for long gaming sessions.Theres only one small issue, is that you need a PC or mac to update the mix amp.

I had the Astro A50s and they broke after a few months. I went with these cuz they were 100 bucks cheaper and honestly thought they looked cooler. Thought i'd give them a shot. They are a lot more comfortable than the 2015 A50s. They fight more snugly. The interchangeable parts are cool too, its nice to know that if one thing goes I don't need a whole new headset. The mix amp is pretty cool too. Its easy to adjust the volume and the audio/voice balance. They look like the will work with any headphones. Overall I really like these. They feel well built and I can wear them all day without any issues. Some people might be turned off by the higher price but if you game a lot this is a worthwhile investment.

Have had many headsets in the past. Most break or just aren't the best quality. These headphones are durable and will last the for a while. Sound quality on my end is superb. Only negative I can put with this product, I'm constantly told that it's difficult for others to hear me.

For the last 5 years, I used Turtle Beach XO Fours headphones for gaming. I had been thinking about upgrading for the longest, and finally settled on these when they went on sale. I am so happy I did! When I would wear the XO Fours for more than an hour, my ears would start to hurt. The first time I put the Astros on......I didn't even feel like I was wearing them. Hours later, still just as comfortable. The sound is amazing, and can be tweaked with the included MixAmp. It still can't replace true surround sound, but it sure comes close!

This headset works great with my XBox One. Good sound quality and comfortable. If I were to change one thing, it would be to make the mic easier to position in front of my mouth.
