    I honestly dislike this laptop for two main reasons. One is the keyboard is very hard to see - the letters are not a distinct color and therefore blend in with the background color of the keyboard. I tried increasing the backlight but it does not increase enough to make the keyboard more visible. I also dislike the "very small" button on the right side used to turn on the computer. You can hardly feel that it is there and it is something you definitely have to get use to when turning the laptop on. I would have preferred the power button to be on top of the laptop not the side. I do not recommend this laptop.

    My internal microphone did not work.

    My internal microphone came out of the box not working. I've tried many ways to troubleshoot and it will not pick up sound unless I plug another mic in. I contacted ASUS and they just said to return the computer to Best Buy. Spent way too much time trying to fix something that should be working.

    Microphone not responding

    I bought this laptop on 4/15. It worked great and had everything I needed. However, on 4/21 not one week after purchasing,the microphone stopped responding. I am a teacher and am currently teaching via remote learning. With needing to hold Zoom meetings and record myself teaching, a microphone that doesn't respond isn't helpful. I've tried troubleshooting via online help, but nothing seems to work. I am really disappointed because I really did like this laptop.

      To resolve the issue, please try to install feature or cumulative Windows update, if the OS is not current. After a successful update, try to do a system restart in order to apply the update to the System Registry. If microphone still doesn't work, please check input source inside the Volume Control properties if correct device was selected. If still the same results, we recommend sending the product in for service.

      If sending the laptop in for service is not an option since this is being used for teaching, meanwhile, please try to connect and use an earphone with microphone.

    The speakers when doing video chat were terrible. We had to use a separate Bluetooth speaker. Then the mic went out completely after about 3 weeks. Geek squad was unable to help and ASUS is unreachable at this time because of COVID 19. We ended up returning.

      Video-conferencing software or applications require a working and stable high-speed internet service or connection. If you are accessing web applications, please make sure the unit has access to an established router and internet service is working properly since this will definitely affect system speed and performance. Poor or unstable internet connection will cause audio and video distortion. Sound may become choppy or muter, and video may garbled or may black-screen in worst scenario.

      Also, please ensure feature or cumulative WINDOWS Update are installed periodically in order to maintain optimum system stability and performance.

      In regards to thee Bluetooth issue, please try to update the AMD chipset driver. Updates are downloaded at the ASUS Support website.

    Internal mic doesn’t work

    Overall this is an okay laptop. But for $700, I would expect the internal mic to work. It doesn’t. We found out on the first day of distance learning and had to purchase headphones with a mic attached. Would not recommend or buy this laptop again.

    Could not Run out of the Box

    I purchased this laptop before the Surface Pro 7 and ultimately before the Razer. It was the last available laptop at BB due to the Corona panic, and kids starting school virtually (like mine). It froze, repeatedly. I couldn't get windows updates to download. The machine freezes consistently and I never had the opportunity to install any software to it. I returned it. This is the second ASUS computer that gave me problems out of the box in the last two years.

      Do understand your disappointment and the inconvenience if you are experiencing stability or performance issues with the laptop.

      This issue is temporary during the initial WINDOWS setup and before installing cumulative WINDOWS Update, regardless what brand name of computer this may be. This may take a longer time depending on the network traffic from the update server and the stability of your high-speed internet service. Also, laptop may be unstabe, will do several system reboot, black screen temporarily or restart during the update process.

      Once initial setup and WINDOWS Update installation completed, system speed or performance will be optimized. Please make sure these updates are installed periodically in order to maintain optimum system stability and performance.

    This is my first ASUS laptop. I am not disappointed. The setup from start to finish was excellent and super easy to follow. The performance so far is very good. I have had and still have laptops from other manufacturers and this ranks up there with the best of them. You cannot go wrong for the price point either. I especially like the touch screen. You can fold the screen halfway to what is called tent mode for watching videos or go all the way back to convert it into a tablet. As long as you configure Windows 10 properly, it will either ask to change or simply automatically adjust the settings for that mode. The keyboard will lift slightly as you open the monitor which helps for the comfort of typing. The 14 inch, super narrow bezel screen is crisp and vibrant. There are sufficient ports on the machine. It has two USB-A ports, a USB-C and an HDMI port for connectivity of all of your peripherals. Also on the side is a headphone jack and a mini-SD reader slot. There is a built-in Harmon Kardon speaker set which provides very good sound. I travel regularly and I was very happy with the battery life. I would estimate that it lasted about 8 hours with average use before I felt like I needed to plug it in. I probably could have stretched it a bit more but didn’t want to chance it. For a relatively inexpensive laptop, it has an excellent feature set, seems to be very reliable and certainly more than adequate for the average user.

    Mediocre Quality Control - Display Backlight Bleed

    3 units, all 3 with noticeable backlight bleed. Returned all 3. Under powered for stuff such as Windows updates (Windows 10 1909 feature update took over 1 hour while unit was plugged-in at Performance setting). Running Virtualbox simple virtual machine really pushes the CPU. Bottom panel can get quite hot under sustained loatd. If you can get one sub-$400 without backlight bleed, only then you are getting your money's worth. Full price $699 is a rip-off. I can only recommend at below $400 and only if you find a unit with absolutely zero backlight bleed. Otherwise, I just cannot recommend the unit. There's nothing compelling about it and the regular price is just outrageous for what you get.

    It is not that easy to use to, for me

    I'm still learning to use this. I don't really like that I am having difficult time getting the Chrome to open some apps that are supported by Chrome, or just navigating around this, Chrome book. It is not for beginners friendly, like myself.

    Bad fan

    Was working fine up until a month ago. It randomly makes scary weird noises. I think the fan is slowly breaking. I don’t understand why?? I’ve barely had this laptop. It’s been less than 6 months.

When the electrical current is increased to a certain point, the magnetic field around the coil can cause it to vibrate, which produces the whiny sound. After a short amount of time the noise should go away as the components regulates.     Needed repair too soon

    My laptop is under warranty and showing battery, charger issues and fan is making random irritating noise. They need 4 to 6 weeks time to fix this issue. My son is doing online school and I can not afford any day without laptop but no solution provided. Best Buy and Asus services are poor. Don’t buy Asus laptop and anything from Best Buy.

      Certainly understand the inconvenience if you are experiencing noise and battery charging issue.

      Please ensure the battery has ample amount of charge to keep the laptop running. Please allow the battery to charge fully, do not power on the laptop. Also, please try to do a battery calibration manually, charge the battery without power on and being used. Once fully charged, use the unit without the AC adapter connected until it completely drained. If this is not possible, disconnect the AC adapter and fully-drained it, leave it unplug for at least 24 hours then charge it fully without the system power on and being used. Please repeat this process a couple of times.

      It is normal for the fan to spin at full-throttle and generates noise louder than normal while the laptop is under heavy load, especially during the initial WINDOWS setup and WINDOWS Update installation. Also, the fan noise will be louder while antivirus software or malware are running continuously in the background. Please make sure the system was not compromise by viruses or malware.

      When system resource utilization is high, this will generate more heat than normal and tends to trigger the fan to spin at full-throttle and noise will be louder than normal. It does decreases or normalizes once utilization goes down.

    Unresponsive touchpad.

    Great laptop until you get some updates and the trackpad becomes randomly unresponsive. I'm afraid of sending it in for warranty because of many cases of your hardware coming back in bad condition. I've kept this laptop in pristine condition and do not want to receive garbage from Asus. I will deal with using an external tracking device and forever avoiding purchasing anymore products from this company.

    Purchased as open box - "residue on cover"

    Don't ever want to purchase open box again after this. Needed laptop during COVID. Limited in-stock. Went with this one, Didn't have package open to inspect unit before purchase, just able to see the cover w/sticker residue thru plastic wrap outside box. When we opened box, Screen was cracked from corner to aprox 1/3 of screen. Huge disappointment. I like Ryzen 5, 7..and SSD. Returned item.

    I don’t recommend this laptop. Windows 10 caused issues with the camera not working. This made for very difficult virtual meetings. It was returned.

    Never again. ASUS sucks

    Two and a half months old and the screen won't turn on or the computer is dead. According to the indicator lights, it's fully charged and powers on, but there is no noise and our 2nd external monitor doesn't recognize the laptop (no signal). Unbelievable. Less than 3 months old, school started, and this happens.
