      Dear MiaTexas,

If the laptop will no longer boot up or it's just black screen, please do the following.

Verify if the AC adapter is connected properly from the laptop to a known good power outlet or AC source. Try another power source.

Try to press and hold down the power button to shut it down completely, just in case laptop is not in hibernate mode, wait for at least 10 seconds then power on. Please wait, if the system is applying updates in the System Registry, it will black screen temporarily. If it still black screen after a few minutes, at least 10 minutes, please repeat the power cycle process again. Also, please try to disconnect the power cable and let the unit drain for 24 hours to clear the memory. This will reset the hardware to default settings. After doing this, please reconnect your AC adapter, do not power on the laptop until the battery was charged..

Certainly understand your concern regarding the issue with the touchpad.

In order to improve the touchpad responsiveness and stability, please install all recommended WINDOWS Update. If you are accessing web applications, please verify if the laptop has access to an established router and internet service is working properly since this will affect the responsiveness of the touchpad.

    Another Nice ZenBook

Asus ZenBook Laptop Q406DA Neat Features • Solid build • Extremely fast processor (Powered by an AMD® Ryzen™ 5 3500U processor, so it really zips along.) • 8GB DDR4 System Memory • 256GB SSD • 802.11ac (2x2) + Bluetooth 4.2 • Stunning 14" FHD frameless NanoEdge touch display (1920 x 1080) with ultra-narrow bezels for a smaller chassis • Good all-day battery life • Excellent backlight keyboard (Precision-engineered dual-action mechanism tilts the keyboard for comfortable typing; tested to survive 20,000 open/close cycles.) This is one of the best keyboards I’ve ever used on a laptop. • Infrared camera with facial recognition for instant, secure log on with Windows Hello • Responsive trackpad • Nice selection of ports • Solid hinge for converting the unit to tablet mode Cons Lack of documentation/information. This is the only negative I experienced with this unit. Neither Best Buy nor Asus.com even had this device listed by the laptop’s name and part number, so updating the unit and downloading the documentation was not possible. I suspect that since this is a brand new unit, this oversight will be rectified soon, Personal preferences While it’s fairly light, the unit is still a bit heavier than some other really lightweight laptops, such as the Lenovo Yoga line. However, making this unit lighter might not have been feasible without giving up some of the included bells and whistles, so the few extra ounces can probably be justified. If it was offered as an option, I would have preferred a 500GB or even a 1TB SSD. CONCLUSION After all is said and done, this ZenBook is definitely a winner! However, I subtracted one star because of the lack of available documentation and information. Had that been available, I would have given it five stars.

First, let me say the Asus Zenbook, has far exceeded my expectations, I at one time believed there were only 2 “real” PC manufactures that were any good. But I was wrong; This Asus Zenbook is Fast, super fast, and has a beautiful display. I have had an Asus Monitor for almost four years, it is still going strong, and has outlasted 3 Towers, and I love it. But I never thought of them as a legitimate PC maker. I can not speak for its long term ability, but for now, I believe this laptop will work to further Asus on the map as a reliable computer maker. The touch screen is pinpoint accurate, and the 256GB is incredible at this price point. I can't believe how much I love this laptop. Also, it's so lightweight, this computer is the best laptop I have ever had, and I would recommend giving this Zenbook a try, In my opinion, you too with be impressed. My final word is this; I am proud to say this is my laptop, and it’s the Asus Q406 Zenbook.

The best thin-bezel laptop on the market

I am not a newcomer to Asus products. I’ve had one of their smartwatches, two of their Windows tablets, and two of their Android tablets. The brand has come to mean quality for me, and the Q-Series ZenBook Flip – aka the Q406DA – is no different. This is a solidly-built laptop that’s stylish and feels great to type on. You could get the same features from other vendors, but you’d be paying considerably more. My system ran $699 but on Black Friday was just $549, and had I had the cash that weekend I would have snatched it up then. This machine is really more laptop than a 2-in-1, although the 360-degree fold-back screen puts it squarely in that category. It is NOT a tablet – the sturdily hinged keyboard cannot be detached from the screen – but it can be used in Windows 10 tablet mode. One distinguishing thing about the keyboard is that unlike other 2-in-1 units, it does not sit flat on a table – there’s about a 3- to 5-degree incline which I happen to like. So let me take various bits of this offering piece by piece so you don’t miss anything. KEYBOARD/TOUCH PAD Since I was just talking about the keyboard, let’s start there. I wanted a replacement for another middle-of-the-road laptop – a reliable but drab workhorse without a backlit keyboard. Score one for the Asus – it has a pleasantly lit keyboard with three illumination levels, as well as switched off. For those of you who think, “It’s a keyboard, so what?” let me assure you that typing on the ZenBook feels better. There’s a certain amount of spring and travel I want in my keys, and the ZenBook has that. Some keypads are mushy, while others feel cheap. The ZenBook keys seem built to go through millions of strokes. I am also pleased to say that the ZenBook Flip has the right sized Ctrl keys. On laptops smaller than 15 inches, I notice other manufacturers cut corners and make the Ctrl keys the same size as letter keys – that is bad. In addition, the left-side Ctrl key doesn’t have a key to its left – so your fingers can find that key without having to self-adjust at the last fraction of a second. The touch pad is a nice, reliable one. It’s not as stylish as the glass-covered one Surface laptops have, but I haven’t had any issues with accidental thumb brushes or latent clicks. TOUCH SCREEN Like most Asus products, the ZenBook has a beautiful, crisp, sharp full HD (1920 x 1080) screen. I’m not obsessed with having 4K resolution on my laptop yet, so this works for me. A key point I want to make is that the ZenBook DOES have a touch screen. Touch screens seemed to be a hot thing for a few sales cycles but I’ve noticed some systems have started leaving them out again. This laptop does have a touch screen. If you think, even for a second, you might want a touch screen, get a system with one, because you can’t have one installed after the sale. Another key point I wanted on my next system was a screen with a thin bezel. It seems such a petty thing to want, but there’s something nice about it – can’t tell you why. The bezel on the ZenBook Flip is about as skinny as any of the others, but the machine costs a lot less. A similarly appointed high-end workstation known for the thinness of its bezels – will set you back 50 to 100 percent more. PORTS Considering the slim profile the ZenBook has, it has two USB-A ports, which is a nice feature these days, as some makers are only offering one, or leaving it off altogether, so those external hard drives and other peripherals will work just fine with this unit. There is also a USB-C port, a nod to the new reality, as well as a full-size HDMI port to send your output to a flat-screen TV. Rounding out the ports is a micro SD slot for photos and digital media (no full-size slot on this, folks; get a USB adapter if that’s your situation), and a 3.5mm RCA jack for audio output – headphones, speakers, etc. Again, even with Bluetooth speakers and headphones rampant, it’s nice to have this jack if you forgot to charge your headset. BODY DESIGN I wanted something a little splashier than my previous laptop and in this unit, I got it. No, the Asus logo on the back doesn’t light up, but I’m not that pretentious. The body is a nice, silver color, without any cutesy tints like blue or rose. But at 3.5 pounds (I weighed it) no one is going to confuse this with a tablet, nor is it one of those units you can drop in your bag and forget it's there. This unit is sturdy and has heft to it – you won’t break your back carrying it, but you’ll know you have it. WEBCAM Yes, the Asus ZenBook Flip has a front-facing webcam that will be sufficiently useful, but it won’t win any awards for color reproduction or sharpness. But you’ll be able to do that Skype or Zoom meeting acceptably well. BATTERY The battery life on the ZenBook Flip is probably about right in the middle – about 6 to 7 hours. I don’t think there’s a single manufacturer out there that accurately claims battery life on their products, and the Asus is no different. That said, 6 hours is decent. When you need to recharge, you’ll have this nice, sleek, small power supply it provides. Unlike other vendors who provide a cord that looks like a snake that swallowed a rat, the Asus charger has a small block about 3 inches by 3 inches square, weighing just a few ounces. STORAGE AND MEMORY This particular model of the ZenBook Flip has 256 GB, more than enough for major applications like Photoshop or Visual Studio. If that’s not enough storage, as previously mentioned, there’s a micro SD slot to add more memory. Be sure to factor the 8 GB of RAM in when scrutinizing this system, too. Some thin-and-lights out there only have 4 GB of RAM, or only 128 GB of storage. All but the most taxing of applications should run fine on this Asus unit, but I would not consider it a gaming machine even if it has a Ryzen 5 chip. SOUND The ZenBook Flip brags Harman/Kardon speakers. Not being an audiophile, I can’t attest to how good H/K is, but those of you out there who know, this is another plus. I’m fine with the sound on this laptop. IRRITANTS Okay, so I’ve covered most of the pluses of the Q406DA. All that said, there are some things that could have been done better. The first was the promotional sticker affixed to the right of the touch pad. In addition to being very hard to pull off, it took the application of rubbing alcohol several times to remove the sticky residue. I urge you to use just your fingers and a washcloth dabbed in alcohol to extract the sticker – anything harder like a screwdriver or a knife will almost certainly scratch the finish and we don’t want that. In the meantime, Asus – the promo sticker is the first thing to come off on a purchased product – don’t make it an ordeal for customers to remove, okay? Another major thing – and this is more for power users (I’m a software developer by trade) is that this laptop uses an AMD CPU rather than an Intel one. What’s the difference? Well, often AMD units run a little less price wise (and this unit is no exception) but there’s other give-backs. For example, I wanted to use an application that suggested the installation of something called “HAXM”, a hardware acceleration utility. One problem – HAXM is an Intel product. Guess what won’t run on AMD? Virtualization is another thing I’ve noticed not as easy as on Intel laptops. Virtual machines – again, for you power users out there – let you spin up a Linux machine on a physical laptop – think of it as a “machine within a machine.” I had zero problems getting utilities like Oracle’s VirtualBox to run on Intel systems, but it’s been uneven going on the ZenBook Flip. I am still working through issues I’ve encountered – mostly having things freeze up inexplicably. If you plan on using this as a professional workstation rather than as a hobbyist one, look closely at the specs before you buy and if you do buy, keep that receipt and watch that calendar for the return deadline (14 days). And, perhaps, something could have been done to lighten it up, at least back to 3 pounds. I had been shopping a different device weighing in at about 2.5 pounds, but changed my mind because I prefer the 16:9 screen aspect to a more square one. Again – this is not a unit I could see avid e-book readers using – it’s too heavy to one-hand. VERDICT The Asus ZenBook Flip, the Q406DA, will make a LOT of computer users very happy. It’s stylish, so it gives an air of sophistication to users in public. It’s built in a clearly sturdy manner, so it will last without fraying or falling apart in bits and pieces. It has a beautiful screen, an amazing feeling keyboard, and a decent number of ports. While it’s not as light as the some other systems out there, it also costs a lot less. While power users might want to kick the tires a little longer or plan on coughing up more for a more powerful system, this Asus Q-Series notebook is the best value anyone else will find on a quality portable system. GRADE: A-

Asus has made a great, stout laptop that performs well and looks great! The first thing I noticed about this laptop was the weight of it. It is a little heavier than you might expect from a 14” 2-in-1 today. The weight certainly doesn't make it any less portable, in fact it makes it feel more solid and we'll built. As far as the build goes, I was impressed. The display is very clear and bright with small bezels. I like that Asus recognizes that people have not fully transitioned to USB-C and have included 2 standard USB ports as well as one USB-C. It also includes an HDMI and a headphone jack. The keyboard is backlit which certainly helps in lower light. Harman/kardon speakers are a premium plus to this model as well. Speaking of brand names, AMD has the processor and graphics card. Usually Asus uses Intel and their undefeated graphics. This AMD setup is fast! One of the greatest features of this laptop is a security feature. It actually has an IR scanner to read your face much like Apple does with it's latest iPhones and iPads, and it works really well! I also like the charging system. Every laptop I have owned to this point has the big bulky two piece charger. This laptop has a charger more akin to Macbooks. There is one block that plugs into the wall and then just a cable. It is a proprietary charger, not USB-C. I've only had the laptop for a week but so far it has met most of my expectations. I like the solid build, the IR camera, the great screen and fast AMD chip. I wish it were a little lighter and charged via USB-C but those are both very minor company's. I think this laptop would be good for work, school or even for your everyday gamer.

Kubuntu 19.04 Installed without a single issue. All hardware worked out of the box. 5.9 GB RAM usable as the Vega 8 card reserves 2 GB apparently. Still plenty for all I do. OS used about 1 GB after starting all applications. Battery life: 4-5 hours with moderate use. Games: Minecraft Java Edition: 50 FPS average Minecraft Bedrock Edition: 50 FPS average L4D2: 305 FPS average on medium setting Opened 30 tabs in a Chromium-based browser, didn't slow down. No observable keyboard bounce. Speakers are average. Nothing to write home about but not bad. The display is crisp and bright. My only complaints: The touchpad isn't the greatest. Texture tends to make my finger grip the touchpad so I have to make sure to not put any pressure at all when scrolling. Needs more IO ports.

Sturdy laptop that has lasted really well since I purchased it in 2020. My fiance and I went through an apartment fire two years ago and the laptop took on a lot of water while the fire was being put out; after drying for a day or two it turned on and has worked fine since then. Highly recommend it for college students or people that work from home.

While not a "gaming laptop" the AMD ryzen 5 supports many games at lower settings. This can be a major advantage to an Intel i5. Also helps with graphics editing and other software. Screen ratio good quality good. Medium speed SSD. Nearly useless USB c ( no charging no dp pass through). Keyboard ok

This laptop is a good machine for almost any user. It has a sleek design that makes it visually appealing and has seamless transition from pc to tablet mode. The AMD Ryzen processor provides great performance, which integrated with the SSD results in little down time. My only gripe is the battery life. It seems if you have more than 1 or 2 programs/apps open, it really takes a toll on the battery life, knocking off 10% in 20 minutes or less (even if on battery saver power option). Beyond the battery, this is a great 2-in-1.

I've had very little experience with AMD, but research on the Ryzen 5 processor in this ASUS Zenbook seemed to indicate performance on par with more costly competitors- I agree! The Zenbook is: - crafted from quality, non-plastic/cheap feeling materials - still has ports!! Many other slim laptops are moving away from ports to save space, but the Zenbook still has HDMI and USB ports while still delivering a small, lightweight package - flexible in its use as a laptop, a tablet and a "tent" configuration for video. My laptop usage rarely goes beyond web surfing, online research and prepping documents or presentations and the Zenbook handled everything I threw at it with ease!!

Overall this is a great laptop and I'm happy with the purchase. Pros: -Speed -Stylish -Great keyboard and touchpad -Quiet -Runs cool -No bloatware! -Small power adapter cable -Solid feel Cons: -Not quite as slim and light as other ultrabooks -Touchpad glitches from time to time -Screen isn't as sharp or bright as some other ultrabooks -Speakers are on the bottom of the unit and aren't very loud Overall this Ultrabook isn't quite as sleek and high-end feeling as some of it's competition (Surface Laptop, HP Envy), but for the $300 price difference, it's a good buy and I would recommend it. I was impressed with the overall speed and LOVED that there is NO bloatware on this machine. Very rare to find that these days. I also really like the tiny power cord. Just wish it was a little lighter and the screen was a little more detailed. I definitely noticed a difference switching from a Microsoft Surface to this. But you get what you pay for.

I've had this laptop for 2 years now and I commute to and from work with it. It's not heavy. I use full MS Office on it with Access. The ssd is very fast and I have another 80gb free after 2 years of daily use. I wish it had one more USB port and that the keyboard letters were easier to see so I took one star off. Other than that I have no problems with it and I use it every day. I even dropped it on concrete maybe 3 ft (fell out of car to driveway) and there were no bad effects besides some surface scratches.

Just get it, you wont be dissapointed. It has everything you need and not have to haul around a larger laptop. It looks good and runs very nice, classic Asus style and performance. I am ordering a slim laptop cooler though because AMD historically runs hotter than Intel but it's nothing to worry about thats just AMD. There is no lag in performance after hours of good use. I have been working with computers since their inception to the human race and I love where technology has taken us, we're just 100 years behind the times. This laptop is worth your hard earned cash. Take care of it and it will serve you well.
