In general it is a great computer, in my opinion the touchpad could've been better, other than that performance is great. I would also add light indicators on the keyboard for the caps lock and num lock.

The I3 processor, keyboard layout, and DVD drive make this a great value. However, I am writing to help those who find it slow and awkward "out of the box" due to windows 8 and how to fix it. As soon as you get an internet connection, do all the regular windows updates. Then download the free program like "classic shell" which will give you a normal "desktop" instead of that goofy touch screen format [this laptop is not touch screen capable.]. Then, on the windows 8 screen go to the "store" app on the default Windows.start screen and download the Windows 8.1 upgrade (it is NOT in with the normal updates). Then, download the free ccleaner program and get rid of jumk files and registry errors. Then run the windows disk defragmenter. After doing this, my ASUS i3 laptop runs even faster than my more powerful Dell Windows 7 desktop. I also recommend a wireless mouse for all laptops.

I bought this laptop for my son for college and I am very happy with the purchase. It is built of good materials and will be very useful for my son as he will be using it a lot for his courses. I was not too sure of windows 8 but after playing on it started to get the hang of it and now I want to purchase another one. Great laptop and will be buying again.

Great computer for the money. Easy to set up and use. No issues so far after two weeks of use. Computer loads very quickly from sleep mode.

I got this during the Black Friday deals. It's a great lightweight laptop for everyday use.

I bought this laptop when there was a good deal and the price was the primary reason to purchase this laptop. After using it for a while, after doing some upgrades(windows 8.1) and installation (antivirus), I will definitely rate this laptop as a Ok product only. I am still trying to find ways to make this laptop more efficient, hope it will last the distance. Better luck when you buy this one.

It came with Windows 8. Sure, 8.1 is a free upgrade, but it has been running a great while. First you had to patch up the 8.0 updates, which took a great while (and my internet is 60mpbs), and now many hours later (over 6) it's still working on the 8.1 update. The HP I bought recently (months ago) came with 8.1 pre installed. Much less hassle. Still, I like ASUS and this otherwise seems like a good computer for the money, but upgrading to 8.1 after it has been out over a year is a real headache.

It does the job for the price. Good for Browsing, streaming videos, Skype!!

Good value for the price. I bought this for my wife for casual web surfing. The fan runs a lot making it relatively noisy. I'm not a fan of Windows 8.1, but I won't hold that against this computer since that's the current PC standard. My son is ready for a new laptop for college and I'll spend a few more dollars to get him something that's runs quieter and keyboard has a higher quality touch.

The battery had issues staying charged within 3 months of purchase. The exterior feels cheaply made. This was a gift for my father and I haven't used it since setting it up for him, so I cannot comment any further on the product.

Was looking for a basic laptop as a backup to desktop. For the price, this provided everything we were looking for. Most likely not something for everyday use or someone looking for a laptop with a lot of power/features, but if you are looking for a low cost, basic laptop this may be the one for you.

The laptop is budgeted and has almost all the necessary features that are needed for a normal operation. I am very happy with the purchase. Could be made a little lighter however I think you get what you pay for. Thanks, Anand

I had been looking for an low/mid-range laptop to replace an old one that was on its last legs and saw this online. The specs and price were in line with what I wanted so I got it. After using it for a couple months I am happy with the purchase. It is pretty thin and light (especially compared to the old laptop) and runs what I need it to. Windows 8 takes some getting used to, but I have no complaints about my purchase.

It'll work for a kid who wants to do some reports and a little patient web surfing. We ended up returning it but not because of speed. We knew what to expect at this price range. We returned it because the trackpad felt terrible and the keys felt like they would break fairly easily. I'm not saying it's a terrible choice. It just wasn't right for us.

The computer has a cheap feel to it. The keyboard is not very solid. The mouse trackpad is clunky and noisy and not very responsive. Overall the computer feels cheap and think it will not last. My previous business built laptop was solid with great solid keyboard and solid mouse pad. Everything on this ASUS feels cheap and is made of plastic. If they had a floor model to demo, I would not have bought it. But for $250, its an ok laptop but not counting on it to last. Would not pay more the $250 for this laptop.

Great product however windows 8 is known for randomly dropping wifi. Be prepared until the fix is given

Quite pleased with this laptop. It is our backup/travel computer and is more than adequate for our needs.

I am not a huge user of laptops and have not been quite fond of them over the years, but this one is very simple to set up, use, and learn about easily. I love that it has the apps and updates on its own. being able to personalize it to my preferences makes it easier to look for what i need.
