Customers are saying

Customers consistently note the strong performance of this 15.6" laptop, particularly praising its capabilities for gaming and demanding design applications. The graphics card also receives positive feedback for its ability to handle modern games. However, some customers express reservations about the screen quality, citing issues with light bleed and a less crisp image compared to other screens. The matte screen, while potentially reducing eye strain, is noted as a point of adjustment for some users.

This little powerhouse laptop has just about everything that you could ask for. A fast processor, good memory, a decent video card. The only thing that I do not understand is why ASUS puts 5400 hard drives in their computers?

I haven't gotten to explore all the features yet, but so far this seems like a pretty powerful machine. It did have some crash issues the first two times I turned it on, but I ran an update and that seems to be resolved. It's a little heavy, but that's to be expected with a dual state drive. Not impossible to tote around, but maybe not the best if you need to take your computer with you to school everyday. I did notice the heat issue that other's talked about, but a cheap fan mat or even just raising the computer off the desk slightly with a plastic hanger seems to work. My only hesitation in recommending this is the screen: before this, i had a glossy, HD-type screen. The matte one has taken a bit of getting used to, though it does produce less eyestrain. I just don't get the same crisp, fine lines I was used to. It also works better in awkwardly lit/ sunny conditions.

Light in weight for simple and easy mobility. Powerful in gaming performance. Excellent HD display resolution where I've seen lacking in other more expensive units. Bought two units.

    Pricey, but worth every penny

As a college student, I wanted a laptop that I could use for gaming alongside my schoolwork. I did a lot of searching around, and eventually I decided to buy this thing. While the price is a bit high, especially for other college students, it was worth every penny. I would definitely recommend buying this laptop, and be sure to read my review because I will explain what the pros and cons are, as well as address some of the complaints that I've read in other reviews. Here's a summary of pros that make this laptop a must-buy: 1. The graphics are incredible (It can handle any of the newest graphic-monster games you can think of and handle it well). 2. There is plenty of storage space for your games and data, and it's hard to find a bigger size SSD drive in a gaming laptop that's under $1,500 (This computer gives you 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD of storage). 3. The device never gets too hot when sitting on your lap, thanks to the design and placement of the heat fan. 4. The device contains a CD/DVD burner, a feature that is dying out and most laptops don't have. 5. As expected, the device streams high-speed, crisply, and efficiently. While I am a big fan of this laptop, it's not without its flaws. Some of the negative things I can say about it are: 1. The price is definitely on the hefty side, and you may not be willing to spend that much on a laptop, especially if you're a college student (However in my opinion it's worth every penny). 2. The mouse pad can be a little sketchy sometimes, especially if you don't do a good job of keeping it clean. 3. The battery can drain pretty quickly if you play graphic-mammoth games like Battlefield 1 or Call of Duty, (I'd estimate that I can get between 40-60 minutes of battery life if I play a game like Battlefield One). But if used for basic web-surfing, document-typing, YouTube, etc. the battery life is much better (I'll usually be able to get 5-6 hours of battery life on 50% screen brightness if I don't play any games). As I was reading reviews about this product I noticed there were several things that other people consistently complained about, and I wanted to address some of them: 1. I noticed a number of people remarked that they thought the heat fan was loud and obnoxious even when not being used for anything strenuous. I will admit that the fan often blows even if being used lightly, but I don't think it's very loud, and it definitely doesn't make enough noise for me to say that it's a problem. 2. On other sites, I noticed some people said that they didn't like the speakers on this device, however I think the speakers are alright. They're loud enough, clear, and I haven't had any problems with it. Overall, while the computer is a bit pricey, especially for other college students, I would definitely recommend buying this laptop, it's a perfect mix for gaming and schoolwork.

This laptop is fast. It boots right up and is ready so much faster than the HP I replaced. It's fairly clean as far as extra software, especially compared to HP machine I got rid of. As far as looks, the finish and details are great.

For the price you get good performance but it lacks in other areas like aesthetics and screen quality. In a bark room you can see the light bleed from three corners of the display. I am returning this laptop.

    Asus Headache

Bought a very, very similar ROG model but not this exact one, for my son. Specs identical: 16GB RAM, 4 GB video card, 256 GB SSD, 1 Tb 7200 rpm HD, 4K UHD screen. It worked great for 6 months. Then my son couldn't get it to turn on. He found he could get it to turn in by hitting power button repeatedly for 1-4 minutes. Sounds crazy but he continued to use it out of necessity (1st year in college). We contacted Asus and they said send it back to them in Texas. A month later it came back after they replaced the motherboard. Seemed to work fine. Son called me from out of state on his first day back to college 2nd year, it won't turn on. This is 2 weeks since it came back from Asus. Completely dead. No lights. Call Asus again and they say send it back. This time they replace the motherboard again, the in-out board, camera, and front and rear panels. We get it a month later. In the meantime, I dust off my 10-year old Dell and it fires right up so I send it to my son to use since Asus doesn't do any loaners. This time, the notebook works for 2 whole days! Incredible! Call Asus again and after talking to a supervisor, they agree to replace it with another one. But, their policy is to replace it with a refurbished one. I have no choice but to agree to their terms. They tell me to ship the notebook back and they will process the replacement within 2 weeks. Three weeks later, I haven't heard from them so I call them again. They tell me that a Pause has been placed because they need to contact me about offering me a different model. I complain that it's been 2 weeks since the Pause was placed and no one has emailed me. The next day, I get an email where they ask me to select a replacement from 3 choices. One doesn't come with an optical drive (mine does), another does but is missing the SSD drive altogether (fast boot up), and the last one came with only a 128 Gb SSD. And the worst is the fact that mine came with the 4K Ultra HD screen and none of the 3 options come with the 4K display. What a deal right? So none of these options are acceptable and I'm still fighting with Asus. This is my story and experience with Asus. I do not recommend them. Be warned!

    Solid Laptop, kinda loud

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I decided to go with a 15" laptop this time around as my 17" had become just too much to carry around consistently. This thing is awesome and it screams through basically anything you throw at it. The only thing is that it is incredibly loud all the time. Even when its just sitting there with nothing running fan is going nuts. So if that doesn't bother you this is a solid option. I switched to this after originally buying MSI GS63VR STEALTH PRO-001. That thing's speakers are atrocious and its too thin to really be functional with how hot it gets. The ASUS doesn't get to hot at all since the fan goes insane constantly.
