I took back to the store and Geek Squad confirmed the laptop was defective.

I read the reviews and several people said the computer was quirky and gave a do not buy recommendation; I bought it anyway. I was able to get the laptop set up, but when restarting, it would go the the MicroSoft page, I would log in and it would go no further; it went to a black screen and would not populate with the Windows Desktop. On two occasion, after waiting 45 minutes each time, it finally came on. It was so unreliable, there was no question that it had to be returned. I like Asus, but this laptop lived up to several of its negative reviews.

It's great to know that you like ASUS! I do understand your disappointment if you are experiencing stability or performance with the laptop. These issues are temporary during the initial WINDOWS setup and before installing cumulative WINDOWS Update, regardless what brand name of computer this may be. This may take a longer time depending on the network traffic from the update server and the stability of your high-speed internet service. Also, laptop will do several system reboot or restart and momentary black screen during the update process. Once initial setup and WINDOWS Update installation completed, system speed or performance will be optimized. In order to maintain optimum system stability and performance, cumulative WINDOWS Update needs to be installed periodically. If you are accessing web applications, please make sure the unit has access to an established router and internet service is working properly since this will definitely affect system speed and performance. Slow and Bad

It was slow and paused often, the mouse pad was difficult to use as it also paused causing me to swim with it. For a Quad i7 I expected far better. I had very little loaded on it and used it for a several months and even with updates there was no change. I have owned 10+ laptops from Dell, Toshiba, IBM, HP, Lenovo. This is the worst laptop I have ever owned, and I no longer own it, went to an HP Spectre.

Total waste of money for buying Asus laptop

It is very very very slow to start up, and even after 20 mins it will just halt and not respond to anything. after 15 mins it may start responding, or just be frozen/restarting again. It is an incredibly frustrating machine and not worth half of what I paid for it. Total waste of money

Too many Blue Screen failures!!!!

It is useless as it is always getting Booting with a Blue Screen and shuts down. Not a happy camper. The computer may be good but Windows 10 renders it worthless.

In order to improve the touchscreen and touchpad responsiveness and stability, please install all recommended WINDOWS Update periodically. If you are accessing web applications, please verify if the laptop has access to an established router and internet service is working properly since this will affect the responsiveness of both devices. I started to get the i5 version, because of reviews on here were horror stories or some that gave me optimism. Let me tell you, people don't know how to use a computer. Lol. THE SOUND IS INCREDIBLE thanks to the built-in Harman/Kardon speakers. I use this thing for entertainment (movies and I love my music) and MS office mainly. I eventually want some music production software, so 16gb is worth it. I love it because I don't have to buy a tablet. because it's also probably the best tablet you can buy! This thing without SSD is pretty fast. There is an additional M.2 SSD slot you can use, and I eventually will. The start-up to login is about 15 seconds and the fingerprint reader is very responsive. Once in Windows, you can get to work almost immediately. I get about 8 hours on battery saver power mode. There isn't much of a difference in experience on battery saver mode honestly, except it will save your battery. This runs 4k videos on YouTube like its nothing. Use Chrome for videos, it looks noticeably better than Microsoft Edge. Download all the updates when you finish the setup. ( type windows setup in the Cortana search). Have Fun!

The set-up was simple and easy; just follow the on-screen prompts and you will not have any issues. Once the initial set up is complete, make sure that you download all the windows/Asus updates as necessary. It boots up extremely fast, especially for a notebook with a 5400 rpm 2TB HD; which by the way is a ton of storage space. The Fingerprint reader is responsive and makes logging in a breeze. The touchscreen is bright, has good color resolution and is also very responsive. This notebook also gives you the ability to convert it to a tablet by folding the screen down. This feature very useful for viewing and displaying powerpoints, watching videos and other multi-media programs. It has an illuminated keyboard and the lightning can be controlled by using the F3 and F4 function keys. The speakers sound good when listening to music or watching a video and battery life is exceptional. I mainly brought this notebook to do online classes, light gaming, and daily home use. This is my first Asus laptop and it has exceeded all my expectations. I definitely recommend this product and I'm loving my awesome ASUS notebook.

Was told because it’s soldered to the board can’t be just clipped off and replaced with just memory clip-on type, needs new mboard. Great but Asus doesn’t make them anymore! Few used ones linger on ebay alike sites, but repair stores don’t want to warrant these and refuse to repair! So whole laptop is useless now! Paid $800 for it with the hope it’ll last longer. Upon research turns out even better gamer laptops by this brand die prematurely. Sick and tired of planned obsolescence, Never Asus again for me, thatfor sure!!!
