This 2 in 1 is my first laptop of 5 owned of various brands ASUS, HP, Dell. The versatility of a flip-keyboard and screen is a big benefit. I find it useful in bed to watch a show for example. To half size the fairly heavy laptop, fold it over for touchscreen operation, this is great. Boot-up time for Windows 10 is T-Minus 10 seconds. Screen image quality is as expected. Only concern is for the full charge to drain time when used with DVD-ROM usage on battery power. (Normal ?). Also the back-light keyboard is hard for me to see in dim light conditions. I need to have my reading glasses and find the key lights hard to differentiate with the special characters. Otherwise I love my new laptop. Clean lines with the brushed aluminum a finish that is classy.

I bought this laptop computer because my last one physically gave out. My young son would constantly carry the last one by the screen, and he almost ripped it into two pieces. The rotating hinge on this ASUS laptop seemed to be the most sturdiest one at the store. But even though my son has moved on to Xbox and WiiU, and rarely touches this machine anymore, I now have another laptop with hinge issues. There is a crack in the plastic case on the right side which appears to only get worse if not addressed. If it were my son't fault, or if I had heavy use on this machine, I would say so. But I use this machine about an hour a day. I'm going to look into the warranty, and I'll try to remember to let you know how that goes. I hope it wasn't a one year warranty.
I'd like to share a few other comments.
Start up is excruciatingly slow. I don't know whether to blame the machine, Windows 10 or my lack of ambition to fix the problem. But when I turn it on for the first time, I wait several minutes before I can use it. I may be spoiled at this point, but I'm still annoyed daily by it.
Also soon after start-up, apps just close if they are too tired to run.
The other thing that I am surprised about is the broken English I find in the ASUS materials. I may sound like an entitled US citizen, but in this day and age I find it surprising that they don't either have anyone with a full grasp of the English language or someone they could hire to proofread.
But, on a positive note, I have never had any system issues. It was easy to network and runs reliably when it is ready to do so.

I've had a Toshiba Satellite for at least 4 years but it's now worn out of so much use mainly in terms of performance so I decided to buy a new laptop for my remaining 2-3 years in the university and a Masters. I was looking for a new laptop with overall excellent performance and features for the foreseeable lifespan I need it and what I will need it for; not only Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. But also for more demanding Engineering programs such as Matlab, modelling programs and simulators.
So far I'm very happy with the laptop's speed, it's i7 processor allows very fast processing, it's incredibly fast. The graphic card allows for a nice HD playback and a smooth running of programs, the audio is very good and the screen display is excellent as well. I love the functionality of a full keyboard nicely distributed and of course the screen size. It's a very nice feature the touchscreen as a 2-in-1 device. Also the lit keyboard is a very nice feature.
The built-in Windows 10 OS is an excellent added feature and always runs smooth. It would have been excellent if Office was integrated. Nevertheless as it is out of the box it's ready-to-go.
It's a great option at this price range. You do get a lot. Specially because I got a $250 discount (A special offer and student discounts).
I would highly recommend this laptop to someone who will need high specs for more than just Office applications and internet surfing and enjoys having a high performance device able to have HD playback for multimedia. Only thing that would make this better would be a Blu-ray disk drive. I'm very satisfied with this laptop from Asus. It's an amazing computer.

I needed a laptop to use primarily for college work but also for personal use (surfing the web, listening to music, etc.). Looked at many brands, including boutique. If you consider yourself any kind of power user then you will probably drool over the higher end offerings from Sager, Xotic, Alienware, MSI, Gigabyte, Razer . . . and . . . while it would be nice, these are typically approaching a couple of thousand bucks or more (a couple of years ago I ended up with an ASUS ROG that is a beast, but also a huge heavy tank with short battery life). This time I needed something portable yet powerful and the Asus Q551LB answered the call for around $900 (minus some rewards money I cashed in). Mine is a lightweight, slim, and attractive black (fingerprint magnet) with a nice polished silver metallic bevel around the edge (matches my Note 4), Intel I7, runs W10 preinstalled (like it more than I thought I would, though it does annoyingly lack simple access to basic system information -> learning curve), has a touchscreen (didn't want originally but love it now), 8 G RAM, 1 TB drive (for another $350+ consider springing for an SSD; the HD is obviously slower and makes mechanical drive sounds when running - usually not that audible), DVD optical drive (uncommon these days), built-in battery - excellent battery life (I get 5-6 hours with moderate web surfing and music), decent sounding internal speakers w/ additional external sub (realistically no-one expects their laptop to rock the house through internal speakers, but these are adequately audible and quite improved with the sub - quite loud enough to play music at my desk at work and to actually hear the dialogue from video even w/o the sub), can be used as a 2-in-1 (not a big deal for me though tablet mode is excellent for full-screen viewing), the full HD 1920x1080 display is quite beautiful (sure 4K would be nicer - think price point), the keyboard has white backlighting on silver chicklet keys (turning it off actually improves visibility of the black key characters at times), it vents out the back (under the hinge) - don't care for laptop gaming and have not used it for that (prefer the ROG w/ W7, or desktop, or XBox) and my guess would be that it would get hot, Nvidia GeForce 940M dedicated graphics (not bad for $900 bucks people), the multi-gesture touchpad is smooth and responsive (flat built-in button type), 3 USB (3.0 incl charge), 1 x HDMI, Bluetooth, WIFI/WLAN, external monitor capable . . . Probably left some things out of this review . . . and . . . bottom line = this is an excellent computer for under $1k. I am pleased with my purchase. Thanks Best Buy (and Quac at the Tiffany Springs store). I'm out . . .

Nice PC for power user

Laptop review by a power user.
1) Network connection: I use my laptop in wireless mode while traveling. At home I connect it to my LAN.
a) I found that you can use the LAN connection and a Wireless connection at the same time.
b) My router is wireless N, I have not tested the laptop on a wireless AC network.
c) I have a media server attached to my router. The laptop connected to it with no problems.
d) I have a NAS (WD EX2) connected in my router. The only problem is that the protected section of this drive will not let me logon from multiple PC's at the same time. This is a network problem, not a problem with the laptop.
2) Display options: I have used the laptop in multiple modes.
a) laptop only
b) laptop and a HDMI monitor in both clone and extended desktop.
c) laptop, HDMI monitor, and a 3rd monitor (via WiDi) in an extended desktop
d) when using the WiDi it gave me options to assign the WiDi monitor as: Clone monitor 1, Clone monitor 2, or extended desktop as monitor 3
3) Sound: I found one problem but it was correctable via Windows Settings. I have a HDMI monitor (w/o speakers) however when I plugged in the monitor it assumed that it was a HDMI TV (with speakers) so my audio went away. I had to go into the audio setting and tell it that my default speaker location was the laptop. Problem solved.
a) the external jack is for a microphone/headset combination. I have tested it with a set of headphones only.
4) WiDi connection: For my test is ran a NetFlix movie (video) on monitor 3 via WiDi, with the audio from the laptop. I did not find any delays in the sync of audio and video. The WiDi connection is from my laptop to TV (not thru my router).
5) DVD: The computer has an installed DVD. I have used it to install some programs. I have also played an Audio CD. Windows 10 does not come with a DVD player software, but software can be purchased. If you had Media Player on Windows 7 or 8 the upgrade is free.
6) Printer: My printer is an HP 8620. I am directly printing to the printer (by WiFi) without passing it thru the router.
7) Windows 10: My precious laptop was Vista 32 bit. I am happy with the operation of Windows 10.
a)The only problem I have noted is that some internet sites I visited are not yet compatible with the Microsoft Edge of Windows 10, as a workaround I am able to used Internet Explorer 11 accessible in the start menu.
8) problems that I did encounter that are related to my setup (not the PC).
a) In expended display mode 'only' the laptop has touch screen, external monitor do not have touch screen
b) When multiple monitors are used the 'Tablet Mode' is not available. If used with laptop monitor only the 'Tablet Mode' is optional

I walked into Best Buy wanting the Surface Pro 3, but I walked about with the Asus 2-in-1 instead. I can use it anywhere, anytime without having the feeling that it's going to fall out of my lap because the screen is awkward. I can fold it up and use it as a tablet or I can sit at a table/desk and use it like a computer. The touch screen is amazing. There is zero lag. Documents/photos/music transfer extremely fast from old laptop. If you want something for work & personal use, get this 2-in-1. There is insane amounts of storage and Windows 10 is really easy to use. Highly recommend!

I purchased this computer to replace an older, out of date laptop. It has excelent speed and is great for multi-tasking. The touch screen is very nice feature that makes it easy to transition between different tasks. The abitity to transform it to a tablet makes it very versatile and fun to use. I would recommend this 2-in-1 and would most definitely purchase again.

It's very fast, Love the 2 in 1 feature, Windows 10 is very nice really like that I can use the start menu and bring up the apps and programs instead of having them littered all over the screen for quick access plus there is quick access to recently used files. although I don't like that I can't right click and have the option to move the file to somewhere else...you have to copy and paste instead. I really like the backlit keyboard and still have the DVD/CD drive. Pictures and games look really good on the screen, Quick access to the Windows store, wish it had a VGA output along with the HDMI also, Battery life is ok wish it was longer, I don't use the mouse pad I use a wireless one instead it's what I'm used to. it's nice that it has a separate Nvidia graphics card with 2 gigs of dedicated memory, and I can upgrade to 12gb of Ram in the future. It's a little finger printy though on all surfaces, but overall love this machine

Great power for a thousand dollar laptop. It's about the only laptop left in this size category that still has a disk drive. Also the added function of tablet mode allows the laptop greater productivity flexibility. The included graphics card isn't to terribly powerful but for the price of the laptop it's great. It can power most newer games on low to medium settings and older games on higher settings. This laptop is a nice midrange laptop for someone that wants the extra functionality of a more powerful laptop but doesn't want to pay a high price.

I needed a new laptop after having issues with the one provided for me free by my university. This is amazing. The touch screen is a bonus but the best feature is being able to play my video games with my husband. I can run League of Legends, Smite, and Fallout New Vegas as well as other steam games without any trouble or crashing. The ability to change it into a tablet is awesome too. Totally recommend

When coming to a decision about buying this product, I was thinking about this or the surface pro 3 and they where the same price at the time I bought this. I decided on the Asus because it can do more and do it at a better performance than what the surface pro 3 can. The surface is more for convenience than for doing things at higher processes (like gaming), which is why I decided to buy the Asus in the end. More bang for my buck.

My second ASUS. Pleased with the Q551LN-BBI7T09 layout. New touch screen is a treat. System seems to have necessary explanations available for a person who needs help (like me.) I hope to give excellent overall rating after I have it a bit longer. Definitely faster! Yea!

I never owned a laptop before but I have had the best experience with this particular laptop and would never go back to a standard desktop PC. Very fast speed especially to graphics card which has 2 Gigs of dedicated memory. Outstanding quality of streaming videos. I also like the fact that this a 2 in 1. I also love the touch screen feature with this laptop as well. I give this laptop the highest rating and would recommend to anyone wanting a great laptop/tablet.

So I purchased this laptop because I am starting my studies as a Computer Science major. I didn't want to skimp out so I decided to invest a little bit more into this purchase. I cannot be more happy with this laptop. I don't even use the touchscreen or tablet features regularly. However, when I fooled around with them they worked great. This rig can do anything you need to do. Runs smooth. Looks great. Can even run modern games on decent settings.

Light, thin and packed to the gills with goodies, this laptop has 8gb Ram, a Geforce 2gb video card, a 1tb hard drive and is 1/2 the weight of my 3 year old Asus "Gamer" laptop. It can be opened backwards into a tablet mode that makes using it in cramped spaces easy. Can't beat the price for an all around laptop that will game or edit high megapixel photos.

Everyone loves a new computer but the 2-in-1 feature makes this computer convenient as well. The only negative to it is that it's heavy for a tablet. I love the touch screen and I've definitely got more computer than I need for a reasonable price ($849). I'm learning Windows 10 since I came straight from 7 but so far this laptop hasn't disappointed.

Touch Screen is Iffy - would give 3.5

So overall the computer is great, but there are a few glitches. I would give it a 3.5 if I could.
The Good:
1. Good size, light weight for the size (too heavy for a tablet but still great for a computer), great battery life (not measured, but in comparison to my Samsung tablet or phone, it is in a completely different league, and I'm multitasking all the time).
2. Multitasks multiple internet sites and document programs great - only slows down when uploading or downloading (when first setting up, I was doing both with about a 1/2 TB of photos to sync).
3. Great for photoediting. No problems using photoshop even with big files. I don't do any color calibration, but the photo's I've had developed after editing on this computer are much better than on my old one.
Problems:
1. Touch screen is slow to come on initially (i.e. when computer is first turned on from either being asleep or from being completely off), the touch screen sometimes won't work for minutes, and sometimes won't work until the computer is completely reset. I have geek squad protection - took 8 hours to log into my computer, couldn't replicate the problem as it is intermittent, and it hasn't been fixed. Not sure if this is a computer problem or a windows 10 problem.
2. The lag when uploading or downloading pictures is significant. I tested my internet speed and it was 50mb/sec at the time, so I don't think it was that.
3. Not sure how I like windows 10. It seems very buggy, not many games on their shopping site, and there are a ton of updates all the time. I had geek squad log in and they supposedly fixed some problems - I haven't noticed any difference in performance although they claimed there were a ton of things that needed optimized or drivers that needed updating. However windows 10 is much more user friendly than windows 8 so far.
4. Not sure if the dedicated graphics card is worth the extra money. Games that lag on my other I7 (2 years old, no dedicated graphics card) still will lag on this one. Again, I don't think it's my internet speed as that has been tested. And, geek squad said they updated all drivers, so not sure what I paid for.
Again, overall, I like the computer. I got it on sale and tax free, so it was a pretty good deal. It's also very quick to turn on and just easy to use (I've given up my tablet for the most part when just hanging around the house). If I had it to do over, I would probably go for the 13 in to make it lighter and smaller as I don't think the dedicated graphics card was worth moving up to a 15 in screen.

When it came time to replace my 5+ year old laptop (also Asus) I did a lot of research to see what model would best fit my current and ever changing needs. The 2-in-1 laptops seemed a good fit for me, but many of them seem to lack power or flexibility.
The Asus 2-in-1 is fast, powerful, has an amazing screen and great overall performance for everything from video editing to live streaming games. It's got everything I need, is a solid and well built machine (with very solid hinges, important in a 2-in-1), and seems flexible enough to keep up with my ever changing needs.
