I purchased this model because i like the stand that your ad shows. if the stand was not supposed to be included then the ad shouldn't have a stand!

First, this product does exactly what you expect. It reads, and writes both CDs and DVDs with the appropriate software on your computer for play back and writing of course. The packaging contains all of the necessary materials to run the equipment, and helpful materials on getting started. Second, the drawbacks are relatively few, but notable. The unit is relatively noisy. If you can manage to get your sound sufficiently high, and don't mine a little background noise, it would be completely fine for a movie on your computer. If that won't work, then this won't work well for a movie player for you. You notice the noise, so that is something to consider. If you use it primarily to instal software, it is no problem as noise doesn't matter much there. It also really needs 2 USB ports to function correctly. The cable provided has a double ended USB cable that plugs into the unit and two plugs go into your computer's USB ports. This could be a problem if you either don't have 2 available, or if you don't have them close by. The reason you really need 2 is that the unit draws a lot of power. It could run on one, but it may slow down the speed, and give unsatisfactory performance if you do that. Hubs won't accommodate lack of USB ports because the power supply isn't boosted. In conclusion, this unit is functional. It is a work-horse. It isn't a power sipping, stealth machine. It is a piece of computer equipment that needs power, makes noise, and you should really use on a desk. If that is good for you then you should buy it. I gave 4 stars because it does what you need, but may not be perfect for everybody.

Sure would be nice if BB included the STAND. It's not in the box. ASUS says optional.

Got this Asus Slim External Optical Drive for the new Asus 2-in-1 14” i5 126 ssd laptop I bought for my niece. This device is beautiful! Nice diamond design & it has a high gloss finish. On the Best Buy website, this drive is shown with a stand. There is no stand included in the box. This device comes with a Y usb power connector, which one usb connects to the device & the other 2 usb plug in to you laptop/computer— it is a must to connect both usb to the computer or else this device will not work properly. Inserted the setup cd that came with the device & followed the simple setup instructions. A “Setup Complete” dialog will pop up when it’s done. Setup took less than 5 minutes. I inserted a music cd to test it — no problem. The only challenge i have right now is to get the new laptop to play movie dvds. I was told that to be able to do this, i have to download an app. I like this drive, even though at first look it looks like an art piece. It is also very light compared to my older external optical drive. But it works just as well, so i’m very glad i got this good looking drive. I’m sure my niece will like this drive & will be playing & burning dvds & cds with it.

My new laptop no longer has an optical drive so this serves the purpose just fine for the rare occasions I need it. It's a little thicker than I was hoping for which is why I didn't give it 5 stars. The included software works fine for recording files on a DVD-R/RW or CD-R/RW. However if you are using Windows 8 & above and want to play DVD movies, you will need to install external software to do this. The included software will not allow you to play movies on your windows 8 computer. I located software on-line to do this at no cost. I bought this to provide DVD/CD support for my Toshiba Satellite Radius laptop. I don't really know if it's a necessity, since most programs are downloadable, but I have some old software that might work on the new PC. I haven't set it up yet because the STAND shown on the Best Buy website isn't in the box and the store doesn't know how to get the STAND. I sent ASUS an email and am awaiting an answer. The installation manual says the STAND is optional. If I can't get the STAND, I probably don't want the External DVD-RW.

I am VERY dissatisfied with this purchase. I originally purchased this item from Amazon for $23.99. Returned it because it DID NOT have a stand. I saw this one for $29.99, and used the "CHAT NOW" option to speak with a sales rep, and he told me that they do have a stand (as pictured on the site 2x) and yes, it is Windows 8 Compatible (Also LABELED on the box); and NEITHER of these statements were true. I went to the ASUS website in hopes of getting the correct driver, but no luck...looks like it only goes up to Windows Vista. I couldn't use the CD that came with the drive; so I used another computer to extract the CD contents and uploaded to my Windows 8; and the content has a huge glitch. Spoke to the sales rep at Best Buy, they told me to call Bestbuy.com 1-888-237-8289; which the first time I called, they hung up on me; 2nd time I called, talked to them for 37 minutes, and they tell me to go to the store to troubleshoot this issue, or return the product. I want this to work, because I like the look of the ASUS SDRW-08D2S-U... My experience is NOT good. False advertisement, bad customer service. VERY UNHAPPY with Best Buy and Bestbuy.com

My son received an ASUS laptop for Christmas. However, he was disappointed because of the lack of disk drive. I purchased the ASUS external drive for less than $40 and he couldn't be happier. The USB connection and lightweight design is perfect for travel.

This drive was very simple to set up and does not require its own power supply, just two USB ports. It has been very helpful since my laptop did not come with a disc-drive. I haven't had any problems with it.

Works just as it should. Our new laptop didn't have a cd-rom and we needed to install a program that came on a cd. It was easy to set up and installed the software without any issues.

DOES NOT COME WITH STAND. External disc drive works great. Plug and play on Dell Windows 11.

I got this external disc drive because my new laptop does not have an integrated CD/DVD drive. It works just fine; I plugged it into my USB port and it started up just like it should. I selected this drive in part because it was shown with a stand so it could be used vertically; unfortunately the drive as delivered did not have a stand.

I've used this for about a month, with no problem, frustration, or worry. The drive was easy to install & setup & is easy to use. I save accounting documents & files with ease & speed. This drive is well worth the price & recommend it to others.

I use this with my ASUS Chromebook to provide for backups on a weekly basis, to play movies, and to offload downloads to keep my dirve cleaned up. Use Nero with it and no issues so far, good speed and quite a good drive, I have had no issues and didn't expect any since my drive and chromebook are both ASUS, good product, good price paid, good value.

I had to buy this product due to the laptop I purchased for my daughter came with no internal disk drive like I thought all laptops came with. In a quick pinch this product filled that void and despite it being something that has to be plugged in externally it does the job.

I got it for a great price and it does what I need it to do. I just plugged it into the USB ports (it takes 2) and loaded my software on a mac mini. I like that it's portable and I can just put it on a shelf when I'm not using it.

Asus have a killer product here. Looks really nice. Seems like a router. Most people would not be able to tell it's an external DVD drive.
