I use advanced softwares for my schooling like 3ds Max and Unreal Engine, so I needed a computer with high specs, but nothing too expensive. We searched online and found this computer for an excellent price!! Runs like a dream, and renders very fast!

I bought this computer to serve as my media center to stream HD video to my TV and to play a few MMO games on. So far I like this computer. It's as to be expected from a typical big box retailer. The information Best Buy had about this coumputer in store was limited to a price tag and the sticker on the box itself; needless to say it wasn;t very much at all.
Like another reviewer, the first thing I did when I got home was tear this rig open and look under the hood. The specifications say it has 8GB of RAM expandable to 12GB. I find this to be odd for a modern computer. Expansion limited to 12GB? There are 4 slots for memory inside and one has an 8GB stick already installed. Trying to do the math to get to 12GB doesnt work. 4 slots and all I can have is 12GB? I am completely confused here.
Im going to grab another 8GB stick and throw it in and see if I can get 16GB total out of it. I am betting the information is not stated correctly and I can have 12GB in each slot.......
The on-board video was unable to perform as well as I had expected so I tossed in a 2GB Nvidia 630 I already had. This seems to be a much better "temporary" alternative, but I am still going to get a Radeon based card at a later date and give that a try to see how well it works.
The motherboard has "CROSSFIRE READY" stamped on it. I dont have any experience with the dual-video card link but this might just be a good opportunity to give it a try.
I am a MAC user primarily but wanted something I could tinker with so I got a PC. I would have been better off building my own PC but for the ease and money, this desktop from Asus fits the bill so far.

What the heck ASUS

Ok so I needed a PC that could handle some light/medium gaming, this was the best bang for the buck... so I thought. But before we get into details, let me say, I did buy an AMD R9 270X and a EVGA 600W power supply specifically for this machine. I knew the AMD processor wasn't going to do much when it came to gaming, so I had to make a couple upgrades. So I bring the PC home, take off the side panel, remove the installed power supply and put my own in, connect all the cables, double check them, put the video card in, checked all connections again. Powered on and greeted with a "please select a boot device, press any button to continue" I push a button and it repeats the message. Luckily this is easily resolved by entering the BIOS (press DELETE at the first ASUS screen). For some reason, the "storage" partition of the HDD was selected as the default boot device, instead of the partition with windows installed on it, which you have to change in the BIOS. Therefore it couldn't boot into an operating system. Finally everything worked great. Downloaded a few games I own, like Tomb Raider, Guild Wars 2, and a small handful of others. Played a few of them, and played around with the graphics a bit, and the PC shuts off after about 20-30 min, WHY? Because there is no exhaust fan in the rear of the PC case, which means all the hot air coming from the GPU, CPU and PSU is just hanging around inside the case, with no fan to push it out... or pull, whatever. So the PC shuts off automatically to protect the components usually when the temps reach over 100 c, which happens in about 20 minutes of any gaming, granted I did add some of my own stuff, this issue could be 100% averted with a rear exhaust fan. I never recommend anyone buy a stock PC from ANY manufacturer, but if you have to ASUS is usually the best way to go. I didn't have the cash to do a custom build so I had to go this route. If you do buy this PC, plan to purchase an 80mm or 120mm fan, which is fairly cheap, $5-$20 depending on what you want. Right now this PC is sitting on the floor with the side panel off and a floor fan sitting in front of it. I do recommend this PC if you don't plan to put anything extra in it, I don't recommend it if you plan to add even a cheap GPU, If you buy it, get a fan as well.
Also a side note, If you do plan to buy this PC or any other, the AMD A-4 through A-10 series CPU's will bottleneck any GPU over a AMD R7 260/ GTX 750, which means the video card will NOT perform at it's maximum potential with those CPU's, IF you plan to add a better GPU than those stated above, get at least a AMD FX4300, Intel i5-3570K and higher, is the best option and will not bottleneck any GPU, though it is a bit more expensive, but you wont find those in stock PC's.

We were looking online to buy a computer, and we definitely going the perfect one. All year we were buying refurbished computers and they're broken! Great computer, really quiet, fast, I can play Rift on it with the highest settings! It's great and I highly recommend it!

Can run good a high fps on gaming with low settings and it's fast for web surfing and other general uses. Window 8 is typical but fast. If on a budget and want to play games without worry from specs, this is decent enough where you could do other things in the background (email, googling, youtube, etc) as well as gaming.

I decided to go with a desktop as you get so much more for your money when compared to a laptop. Great processor, lots of room and a reasonable amount of memory. Would have liked a bit more room for growth in memory, but it's OK. The only thing that may be a problem for some people is the keyboard. Whoever decided to put grey letters on dark grey keys really wasn't thinking! The feel on the keyboard is very nice, but it is quite hard to read the keys. I ended up getting some white keyboard stickers for the keys and that has made a major difference. Didn't really need the wired keyboard as my wireless one works fine, but it's nice to have a backup.

8Gigs of disappointment. Took a chance on ASUS and the PC runs terribly slow, even when showing less than 30% of RAM being used. Just a slow PC and Windows 8, which is horrible, doesn't make the experience any better.

Awesome computer for the price. The power supply is rather low wattage though. The A-10 APU is awesome running alongside another Radeon card. For the price a GREAT machine, even better when upgraded.

This was my second ASUS purchase and it will be my last! My hard drive crashed while under warranty. Called support and they advised to send the WHOLE computer in. I advised that I replaced the hard drive already but just needed the OS and product key. They still insisted that I return the whole unit so they can install the OS. Stick with HP or Dell, and make sure you get copies of the software you purchase.

This computer is junk... I've only had it for a year and now it shuts off by itself. ASUS support was so clueless. I'll be in the middle of using it and all of a sudden the display will shut off while the power still stays on (and no its not my monitor or cables). I would never buy an ASUS computer ever again in my life. I hate this company. Horribly built computer. Works great until it shuts off...

Great computer, but misrepresented by BestBuy

As of 10/17/2014 Best Buy's website shows that this computer has a Bluray player. To be fair, the specs do show DVD, but the overview which is what is first shown to the customer, lists a Bluray. I bought the computer for this reason. I tried to get in touch with Customer Service, they just gave me a generic response that did not address my concern.
The computer is great, and it is not the fault of ASUS that this website mistakenly claims that the product boasts a Bluray player.
I thought I was getting a great deal, but ended up getting a good computer at an expected price.
I would absolutely recommend ASUS to a fiend.

Terrible. Two months new & going in for repair, better yet to the factory. Can you believe that each line is typed on top of the line & that you cannot read the print? Said it was the printer, then the monitor all that is left is the computer. Returned the printer & monitor still the same problem. Do not purchase this model.
