I bought this computer for travel and was very surprised that this computer, being rebuild, works better then my daily laptop. I would recommend this laptop to anyone for a student or as a second laptop.

I had high hopes for this computer upon buying it. A buddy of mine had said that refurbished laptops were generally good if bought from a reputable dealer. I stumbled upon this last week and thought I would give it a go since I needed a basic machine to use for school.
I generally regard ASUS as being a better brand, but I guess that was a mistake I made in assuming that they didn't also offer cheaper builds.
First impression I had was that it felt very cheap and hollow. The keys on the keyboard make this very empty noise when you are typing and feel very loose to the touch, and my 'R' key has actually almost come off a few times. "Well, I get what I paid for" I thought to myself. I wasn't too worried about it, but I felt like it could easily be physically broken if I wasn't too careful.
Performance wise? It is an absolute joke. My 15 year old Alienware outperforms this thing. I had ONE program running; iTunes. And I checked the system performance because it was running SUPER slow. CPU was maxed out and the memory was up there as well.
I figured I'd really test this thing out and play a video game....from 2003. Horrendous results. It just couldn't handle it. I was jumping all over the place and the game subsequently crashed shortly after.
Well, no big, right? I wasn't planning on using this thing for gaming.
Then last night happened. I get a message about the computer needing to update. Cool, computers do that, so I start the updates and let it do it's thing.
30 minutes goes by...still updating
45 minutes goes by....still updating
just over an hour goes by....whoops! updates couldn't install for whatever reason, undoing our changes.
Another hour goes by and this contraption is STILL 'undoing changes'. Annoyed, I left it overnight to get itself straightened out. 6 hours should be enough time, right? Wrong. Still "undoing changes" at 5am before I left for work.
I finally just shut it off. It can be Geek Squad's problem when I return it this weekend.
I swore to my friend that I would never again buy anything refurbished or second hand because I've had nothing but bad experiences. Do yourself a favor, do your research and get some hands on time with the product you want before you actually buy it and save yourself from the same headaches I've had to deal with.
If I could give this thing negative stars, trust me I would.

I only gave it a 4 star because the mouse pad did not function when I received it but it was fixed
