GREAT CHOICE AMD FTW! Ok this will help you bc I have looked for a long time to figure out the OC process in general. USE YOUR BIOS. Despite what people might say this is the way to do it. You dont need AI SUITE II it is no good. Make sure you do your research, I put my m5a99fx in a Storm Stroker... You must have good ambient (inside the case) air flow control. Pull in from tue front, bottom, and side. Exhaust through the rear and top.
So the goveaway! Bios settings. Go to ai tweaker, and disable all of the stuff right there like cool n quiet, i dont know the rest but they are all disabled (cool m quiet, amd turbo or tech w/e SVM- all of them.)
Next find the other area where fans are controlled in the northbridge and set em to 100% min max. This is just how i do it. Ok then the OC STARTS, go to the overclock set it to manual, disable amd turbo, set your multi to 20, front side bus 200, ram whatever you have set it to that number( i suggest a minimum of 1866- I am only able to do so much with my 1600) then set the next one to 2200 and the last one to 2600. Basically you are copying what is in yellow at the top o the screen. So now that is done, go down and disable most of the other things if not all- it says "if disabled you get a better OC" so when you get to voltages..... Set them to stock voltage. Like my fx8300 has 1.2 core, 1.175 dram, 1.5 etc etc etc. The point is to see what you can OC to without raising voltages then when it starts failing you slowly raise them. This is a rough draft DO WORK! Research! It is a fascinating thing. Also use a bleeping ssd! Use your big hdd for storage.

This Asus motherboard (M5A99FX Pro R2.0) was just what I was looking for when it was time to replace my 5+year-old dead ASRock and upgrade from the AM3 Phenom II quad-core to a AM3+ FX 6-core. This mobo has plenty of SATA-III (6GBs), USB 3.0 and 2.0, and PCI-Express ports. I'm only running slightly older video card, but it can run 2 graphics cards at x16-speed plus a 3rd at x4 speed.
The build quality is pretty good which means Asus hasn't really slacked much, and the heat sinks on the north/southbridge chips and power management area look to be effective and won't interfere with installation of any hardware. They thoughtfully included a 'bridge' to pre-connect all the case power, HDD, and reset switch headers outside of the case, which you then connect to the MB where we would normally connect them- This makes it so much easier than fiddling with all those little wire connecter heads in the dark corner inside the case. Their GUI BIOS is so-easy-a-caveman-can-do-it thoughtful with the mouse being available to go through a crisp BIOS menu with the manual and automatic/auto-tune preferences. Shiny!
I only wish that they would have included PCI-E 3.0 support, but I guess that will be coming to more AMD platforms around this time (late 2014). Not a big-issue however as I there may not be a big difference at this point, and I can easily get a second video card if a game ever comes out to finally stress out what I currently have. I'm quite satisfied with this motherboard and CPU combo which is running Windows 8.1 just fine.

Board has everything you need to get setup for a basic gaming rig. Nice expansion of memory, and able to hold a decent video card. Just make sure the case is mid or full size.

My fiance has an AMD computer, so I was looking to get her a reasonable upgrade so she can have more expansion space. This board is very impressive to behold. I am an intel person. My personal desktop has a GTX 1080 and an intel 4790k processor. Her computer is not as impressive as all that, but I was really jealous of this motherboard.
It's very clean cut, easy to find what you need. It's a great board for someone wanting to build an AMD computer that isn't a hassle to expand with. It's also quite sturdy. Well built. A+ from this intel junky.

I am not a computer guru or heavily involved with computer building. This is a NICE board. High quality parts, looks awesome and flexible memory banks and fan options. Could use more SATA connections. Plenty USB inputs, several 3.0 also.

The audio on my old 990FX chipset motherboard went out so I bought this as a replacement. Even though it it isn't as "top-of-the-line" as far as price and features, it is a solid performer and makes my PC run smoothly and efficiently. Highly recommended.

Pros: BIOS is really nice; Auto Overclock; It can monitor 2 CPU fans plus 3 case fans; SATA plugs are angled out so they don't get in the way of a large video card
Cons: No complaints

Bought this for a build to give to my son. Paired it with an AMD FX 8350, liquid cooled. GTX 970. Samsung SSD 500GB. 2TB HDD and Corsair Ram. Very simple UI for BIOS and easy to overclock. Runs very fast and smooth. Been going strong for about a year now and not a glitch. Very solid board. Does gaming real well. Good board if you are on a budget. Good benchmarks. Up to par with an i5. Highly recommend.
