Budget tablet that gives flagship user experience

I currently own nexus 7 (2013),samsung galaxy tab pro 8.4 and this tablet. I have to admit this tablet is my main tablet now. I absolutely love this tablet... Beautiful full HD screen, super thin and light, amazing battery life(about 8hours screen on time with some playing of graphics intensive games), very loud and clear dual speakers(not sure if two mono or stereo speakers), microsd slot. The only bad thing about this tablet that every other tablet has is its camera but since I don't use camera on my tablet, this doesn't take away any bit of my user experience. $$$ very well spent.

    The "Perfect Budget" Tablet

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

For a $180 tablet that Asus competitively put out on shelves, competitors like Samsung are crazy to sell their budget line up of Tab 4 series to compete with this device. This Asus Memo Pad 7 is elegant, sturdily built, and performs like a premium tablet while having a top notch screen. The new screen coating they have truly does shine as well, and makes the tablets highly visible even in sunlight; not to mention it already having a gorgeous full 1080p display. It is extremely light, and perhaps the lightest tablet out on the market right now, and does not flex or creak. Simply put it this way, if you were expecting a Nexus 7 for 2014, look no further. I believe this tablet would have been Asus's vision for this years Nexus 7, and for whatever reason they were able to knock out every budget tablet with a $180 price tag and being able to maintain quality and performance that easily holds up to premium tablets out on the market. The new Moorefield Atom processor is no slouch despite benchmark scores. These processors were made to run full Windows operating environments, and in an ARM environment like Android it simply beats out many out there. Now the cons, simply this. Asus packs the Memo Pad 7 with bloatware that users cannot delete. This is expected, but is more of a nitpicking issue that most will take notice immediately. The other con would be the 64bit chipset this tablet is using. It performs flawlessly, but for graphically intensive games it is not optimized yet. When running graphical benchmarks, the tablet scored and passed with flying colors. When playing graphically intensive games like Dead Trigger and even lower end games like Shadow Fight 2, you'll experience slowdowns. I think it's due to the fact that the support for 64bit is still limited, and future updates especially through Android 5.0 L will resolve these issues in due time. I claim this tablet as the Perfect Tablet, even if you do have the budget to buy 10 Ipads. This tablet brings a fresh feel to Android that is elegant yet familiar, and it especially plays it safe for those on a budget. With the holiday season just around the corner, you owe it to yourself to buy what will be considered as one of the greatest tablets ever built in my opinion.

I bought this tablet mainly for price, but turned out to exceed my expectations!!!!!! The specs are great and I'm very impressed with battery life. The display is amazing and in my opinion better than the nexus. I like the speakers and also the thin profile. One of my favorite features is the ability to move certain apps (example large games) to my SD card and or otg USB drive. The cameras aren't great, but I don't use it anyways.

I bought this to replace a Samsung Galaxy, which was nice but only had 8 GB on board, which would not support all my apps. At the under $200 price point, the ASUS was the only unit with 16 GB. (Most apps do not transfer to the SD card, so you need more on the tablet itself). I was surprised and delighted to discover that the ASUS also has a faster processor, much better graphics, and was much easier to hold (It's longer and more narrow, easier for a woman's hand). So it's fast, easy to use, easy to hold, responsive screen. I would like a couple of improvements- the ability to move more apps to the SD card (especially bloatware), and I'd like to buy a 32GB model (not sold in the US- yet). And it's on sale for $149! I bought one for my husband!

So i purchased the Me572c and the first one was a complete dud. DOA. Replaced it same day and love it. PROS: Great UI Snappy response Great Audio Amazing battery life Bluetooth works great ( Tablet Talk App ) Fast booting Amazing sreen. I use PLEX Media Server and stream my movies in 1080p and they look amazing. no color issues. CONS: Camera is lacking a bit. Could be software NO Flash for Camera Cases by ASUS not available for purchase as advertised online. Fingerprints attracted to screen No NFC No Qi Charging ( not a biggie ) No 5ghz WiFi WiFi has an issue when screen off. DOES NOT stay connected as it should even with current software update. It will reconnect but should not happen. Checked all my settings and its set to stay on always, and set properly in the Power optimizer settings to allow it. Also had to turn off Minimize WiFi power while on battery. Is this a great device? Yes. I have owned a Samsung 8 tab 4 and it was ok. decent but heavy. Acer iconia 10.1 and slow. this amazing 10x better Will i keep it? Yes. very slim, clean, and portable. Helps when doing builds for customers at work too. Makes searching for items easy.

Great Tablet! - Beware of Samsung "experts"

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

INTRO: I'm an app developer, and I picked this tablet up as my 7" testing unit. I would have went with the Nexus 7, but even the newer model is getting old now. I also heard many reports that the Nexus 7 was very slow with the Android Lollipop. I wanted something that was sub $200 and would last a while. This tablet has been a perfect fit! PROS: This Asus tablet is outstanding! - Speed - Power - Screen - Audio - SD Slot - Zen Interface - Feel in Hand When I was first researching this product, a reviewer had mentioned that this tablet might actually have been designed to be the 3rd generation Nexus 7, and I agree. The speed and versatility of this tablet is well beyond what I imagined. It doesn't get bogged down like other tablets I have. The screen is crystal clear with great resolution. By far this tablet has the best audio I've ever experienced from a tablet (especially 7"), no questions asked. The memory is expandable with an SD card. The zen interface they use on this Asus is one of the best I've come across (besides Google's). It hasn't become annoying like others I've experienced and it adds some nice features to the tablet. The tablet is light and feels very good in hand. It is easy to hold and has a grippy feel on all of it's sides. CONS: There aren't too many cons, and none of them have detracted any stars. This is just me nitpicking. - Flashing Display (FIXABLE) - Preinstalled Apps - Square Corners If you use auto brightness, the screen seems to flicker a lot and becomes overall inconsistent. To fix this, just turn off auto brightness. There are a lot of preinstalled apps. This may or may not be an issue, I would have rather had less of them installed. Although I haven't had a problem with them, I could see the pointy corners being an issue at some point. It is quite possible that the tablet is just light enough where it isn't even an issue. NOTE: I want to let anyone looking into tablets, laptops, phones or wearables to be cautious of the Samsung "experts" in the Best Buy stores. When I went to pick up my Asus tablet I asked an employee, in the tablet area of the store (nowhere near the Samsung area), what were the best 7" tablets. He pointed me at the Samsung Note 4. I had done some research on it and I knew it had sub par specifications for the same price as this Asus tablet, but I played with it in store for a bit. To no surprise, the Note 4 was agonizingly slow. I then asked him if he had any knowledge about this Asus tablet. He told me that Asus wasn't as developer friendly as Samsung and that the Note 4 was better. This is when I became suspicious and realized that he was wearing a lighter colored Samsung shirt. I then watched a few other Samsung "experts" guide customers from different brands of products to Samsung products. If Samsung ends up being what you want, great, otherwise watch out.

this is a great 3rd generation Nexus tablet. My first Nexus 7 tablet generation 1, was showing its age. This new tablet is extremely fast and has no lag in its response time, it has great screen quality, and the new memory slot for the micro SD card is a must for storing your music locally as well as downloading movies for that long flight. You cannot beat it for its price. I bought one for my 80 year old mother, and she loves it.the only issue I have with the tablet are the sharp corners but I bought a case that was made for the tablet and I no longer notice the corners.

    Near Perfect!!

I'm on an never ending quest to find a decently priced tablet with good performance and I got lucky enough to snag up one of these bad boys at a local Best Buy the day they received them Form factor - This tablet is really small and pocketable, I can easily grip it with one hand while surfing the net or on random apps, but i prefer to still put it in my lap. It has a nice attractive design, and Asus really did something different with the way the back is designed, plus it is really thin!! Performance - It is running Intel's newest 64 bit processor with 2 gigs of ram and you really don't see any noticeable lag anywhere. Antutu bencharks score well over 35,000. Take that with a grain of salt tho. UI - ZENui is clean and elegant, the system runs zippy and Asus put more of its core apps in the Play Store so they get updated a lot faster, hopefully this could mean faster update to 5.0 in the future. The LCD is bright and easy to read with colors that pop plus some of the Asus apps are useful. Camera - not much to say, keep your compact point and shoot. Overall, I'm really happy with the purchase. The tablet flies on pretty much any app and it is responsive to touch. I say near perfect because nothing in reality deserves a perfect, but I still love it nonetheless. Asus outdid themselves, lets hope they put out Android Lollipop for us soon!!

Great tablet. Got mine for 139.99.been using about a week. Only minor issue I'm seeing is occasional screen brightness calibration, even with auto brightness off. And some apps thumbprint icon don't show up in 'recent apps' function. Super fast. The built-in apps aren't worth much and can't easily be removed. However the launcher is surprisingly good. Haven't seen need to switch to nova. Form factor is odd. Long bottom and upper bezels most universal cases won't fit. Having said all this, love it. Would buy again (so far). Really hoping at native 64bit version of Android 5.0 is released... Should see even more performance then. I've had kindles, nexus, ipad, nook etc.... And so far this ranks very highly for me.

Before this tablet, I used a Nexus 7 2013 model which I was satisfied with, but not thrilled. The ME572 easily beats out the Nexus 7 in terms of performance. It is fast, handles streaming video and has done everything I have asked it to without slowing down. Battery life is great. I can use it all day at work without charging, but.games with graphics and ads will drain it faster. I purchased this tablet as a Christmas gift to myself and have used it for over two months now and would definitely buy it again..

I wanted a cheap tablet to play one game. I found this one online, a worthy choice, as the "Successor" to the 2013 Nexus 7. It was on sale, and had to drive an hour to BB to get the last one in stock. I didnt want to wait for one to ship. Expand your In Store Availability search if not in stock locally. Plays my game flawlessly while others complain about performance on their more expensive devices. Average battery, 11 hours. Moderate to heavy use, depends on your perspective. I find it to be better than expected, true to advertised or at least the reviews I read, not sure, maybe blurring the two. Just over 2 weeks in now. No longer on sale, but still worth the Price! I put it in a generic case, so the form is fine with me. Lots of ASUS apps to "Help" you. Not a problem other than being in your view, if that bothers you. SD card slot (micro) is a huge plus! I would recommend this to young, old, new or experienced, you will not be disappointed with this affordable tablet. ASUS ME572C

essentially a "3rd gen Nexus 7" sans AOSP, plus SD

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

it's very tough to give out 5-star reviews on tablets/phones. they're all very nice, but usually lack one or two very critical features which would otherwise make them worthy. if the ME572 had come with the faster Z3580 Atom, AOSP, and shorter top/bottom bezels, it would simply be perfect. as it is, the Z3560 performs flawlessly, and the excessive top/bottom bezels do not affect comfort/usability in any way. though, I have no intentions of carrying it around outside the house. I have a sizable phone for that. regardless, I can't, in good conscience, take off a full star for coming up a bit short of perfection. I could easily take off for the non-AOSP-like rom, but this is only really an issue for a limited set of people. and even then, it's just not the end of the world. pros: • thin/light • I can palm this quite comfortably (to be fair, I have pretty large hands# • not excessively warm/hot #my Lenovo S8-50 and new Z3 phone get much hotter# • microSD • excellent USB/file-transfer performance #30mbps vs unusable in S8-50# • better scaling #the S8-50 is closer to 1:1, and everything is fairly small, and some apps get confused and render poorly# • zero issues playing app-embedded youtube #Shield can't do it# • price cons: • excessive top/bottom bezels #unless you want to carry it in a pocket, this is mostly cosmetic, and at that, not really an issue# • Zen launcher/rom/bloat #you can disable most non-Zen apps, but there's a lot of Zen apps, recommend you install Nova launcher# • corners come to somewhat of a point #not sharp enough for any kind of concern, I'd just prefer rounded corners on this device #I'm being really nit-picky here# • only 16gb internal storage #closer to 10gb you can actually use# - it's very difficult to find a tablet in this price range with more, though #IIRC, they do intend to make a 32gb/LTE version of this device# the ME572 is only about 1/4in both shorter/narrower than the Lenovo S8-50. surprisingly, that 1/4in made all the difference in the world for me palming it. YMMV. I've only had the ME572 over the weekend, and there's no question, I'll be handing down the S8-50 at my earliest convenience. the S8-50 is by no means a bad tablet. I just prefer the ME572 that much more. of course, I wouldn't have any issue if someone could make an 8in tablet just as narrow as the ME572, with similar scaling. for all I know, the reason my Z3 and the S8-50 get so warm #only playing games, though# is because they may be using heat-sinks which bleed heat closer to the shell. I honestly can't say whether the Z3560 runs cooler or not. but, if observed warmth is something on your radar, you'll definitely prefer the ME572. I simply wanted to add, I don't understand the lack of good 7in tablets this fall. a year ago, google began selling the 2nd gen Nexus 7, and AFAIK, it was extremely popular. I understand them selling the Nexus 9, to compete head-to-head with the ipad. that would be a very profitable market for them. but how they decided not to update one of the most popular tablets ever made, I can't imagine. at least Asus has seen fit to not only ship a 1920x1200/2gb tablet with an updated CPU, they even added a microSD, and priced it very competitively. overall, the tablet has a very nice feel to it. it doesn't feel cheaply made. at this price, I wouldn't expect it to survive much of a drop #short of a $1,000+ "ruggedized" tablet, I wouldn't expect that of any device). but kudos to Asus for doing an exceptional job of at least making it feel like it's not junk.

A promising tablet, yet I was let down

I have had a Google Nexus 7 (2012, 32gb) for years now. It's a great tablet that still works surprisingly well to this day- especially with the latest Android Lollipop update (5.0.2). I bought this Asus ME572 because it was a similar tablet but with vastly improved specs. This ME572 does a lot of things right, but there are some glaring issues that ultimately left me feeling cold towards it. - Light bleed on the screen. It's not terrible, but it's there on the top and bottom of the screen. That said, the color reproduction and the overall look of the screen is very good. -Unresponsive power button. This one really confuses me. Often times (randomly), you have to hold the power button down for 2 seconds+ in order to wake the device. The button feels fine so it must be a software issue. -So-So performance. This is a powerful tablet that does well in benchmark scores, yet in my daily use (browsing in Chrome, watching Youtube), it just doesn't feel nearly as fast as it should. Scrolling in Chrome is barely faster than my old 2012 Nexus 7. It's odd. -Perceived typing lag. If you like to have the tablet make a clicking sound as you type, this Asus lags. The click sound that accompanies each key press is delayed which can really throw off your typing. The easy solution is to turn off the typing sound effect, but still... this is odd. I did try both the Asus keyboard AND Google's keyboard. The problem persisted. I ultimately just decided to turn off the sound effect. -The tablet feels cheap. Granted, the tablet IS cheap so this doesn't t really matter. I personally just don't like the rubber feel that surrounds the tablet. It is easy to grip, but every time I pick up the tablet, the overwhelming feel is that it's a toy, rather than a premium device. The older Nexus 7 feels better. FINAL THOUGHTS- This is an OK tablet. For under $200, you're probably not going to do much better. None of the cons I listed were true deal breakers, but considering that this Asus didn't impress me any more than my 2012 Nexus 7, I was disappointed. ALSO, if this thing gets Android 5.0 Lollipop and it can take full advantage of the 64bit architecture, then this Asus might be fantastic. Right now though, it feels like a very powerful tablet that is severely hampered by it's software. The technical specs are absolutely there, the screen is very good and the price is fantastic. If the software gets sorted out, this could be an absolute steal

For the price point, there is nothing on the market that can beat this tablet IMHO. The graphics are clean, exceptionally clear and fast!!! The speaker quality provides good stereo, a tad limited on volume but extremely adequate with headphones. Only issue is the power on/off button which may take a couple of presses to activate when in sleep mode. No lock ups. No problems after 2 months. Keeps charge for days on standby but wears out in about 10 hours with heavy game-play, not too shabby... I recommend this to anyone looking for a <$150 solid android tablet.
