Fantastic gaming laptop

In summary, this ASUS ROG gaming laptop is fantastic. It has an amazing performance and a beautiful screen which is perfect for gaming. It is small enough to take with you anywhere you go. Yet it doesn't get too hot and isn't too loud. Impressive, comprehensive connectivity with various ports keeps you connected and lets you stay productive no matter where you are. For example, one of the USB-C ports is Type-C PD, power delivery, and allows the laptop to be charged by a power bank. So, the charging options are the original power input port, Type-C port simultaneously or individually; this gives the user more options for quicker power charging. With the power port and Type-C port simultaneously, the laptop can be used while gaming and charge the battery faster. There are two USB Type-A ports and a MicroSD slot. The magnesium-aluminum chasing helps make the device light, and at the same time, it feels durable, and it is solid, not flexible. There are plenty of heat vents on the chasing to allow the device to be used for an extended period of time without getting overheated. Mainly when I game, I use my headset, but when I watch movies, the speaker quality is very good. The keyboard has a sleek design with an awesome backlit RGB and is customizable in the ASUS ROG software. It has comfortable keys which are easy to press and allow you to use them for a very long time. The keyboard does not get very hot, even after long sessions. The touchpad is very nice for a laptop as most of the time it is hard to use properly, but in this design, it is very convenient to use. The Nivida RTX3050ti, alongside the Intel Core i7, gives the laptop a great performance. I have tested it on a variety of games such as Minecraft, rust, rainbow six siege, and Ark. All the games ran fine with no issues.

I am a reviewer in this invitation-only program and was provided this product for the purpose of writing an honest, unbiased review.
I received ASUS - ROG 16" WUXGA 144Hz Gaming Laptop - Intel Core i7 - 16GB Memory - NVIDIA RTX3050Ti - 512GB SSD - Off Black with 2 USB Ports. 2 USB C Ports. 1 HDMI Port. 1 Micro SD Card Slot. 1 integrated camera, 1 LAN
I went through the setup and all the updates with Windows. That took about 1 to 2 hours total. Going through the setup was pretty straightforward. Follow the prompts and you are all set.
I then used SiSoftware to benchmark the PC prior to testing functionality. The benchmark came back showing that the PC met the specs as advertised.
I then tested transfer speeds of USB to local solid state HD. USB C transfer speeds are FAST. Huge files moved flawlessly.
HDMI plug and play was easy. I viewed 4K raw video on online streaming was really nice. No problems. Image was nice and crisp. Viewing angle was about 30 degrees. So if you are a spectator your view of content will be distorted and not as clear. I did not like that.
Color (physical color of matte black) is really nice. The weight of PC is good. Well balanced. Opening up the screen pushes the laptop up so it can ventilate. Great design. No need to get a stand.
Video Calls were fine. No issues. Onboard camera was good.
Sound and mic was great. No complaints. Speakers were good. Came with Dolby Atmos..... Not a trial. So straight up full Atmos sound. NICE!
On board ROG options are nice. Easy to customize. Keyboard lighting is nice and subtle. Not crazy bright and distracting.
Only other thing I could ding this PC is the touch mouse kept on accidentally getting hit and my cursor moved to type things and it jumped all over the place which is typical for these types of mouse pad setups. Also the distance between the keyboard and the wrist rest area is a bit awkward for me.
Battery life was okay with full on gaming it lasted full throttle for 4 hours straight for me.
Full on gaming with Rainbow 6 Siege was really good. No lag. Both wifi and hardwired LAN. Video and gameplay was really nice.
I have owned Asus Chromebox and Asus Chromebooks and they are all solid builds. This Windows based is no different. Well done Asus. Even down to the presentation of the box. Where you open the box and the PC comes up towards you. Nice.
I would recommend this product for hardcore gamers that want the most out of gaming and blast away your opponents.

The screen light comes and goes back. Even I am not using for games, and it is still too slow. I don't know what is wrong with it. I just used couple weeks. I am very disappointed my friend suggested to me ,did not meet with my expectations.. My 2017 MacBook Air is faster than this laptop. Battery life is not long also..it is too heavy. Currently I can't return it is too late:(

The screen constantly flickers and distorts the image. It's barely usable on battery, but if I plug it in the screen goes absolutely nuts. I did all updates for Windows 10, nVidia, Armory Crate, MyAsus, and even the Windows Store updates. Nothing fixes the problem. Returning it today.

It is a nice laptop that seems to play most games. However, it does not have long battery life if not plugged in. Especially for gaming. It also gets really hot on the bottom of the laptop and on the keyboard itself sometimes. I bought a laptop cooler and that has fixed that problem for the time being. It can be a little on the loud side when the laptop fans are on high for a more intense graphic game. But overall, it has been quite nice for gaming and for work. I'm a little bummed it doesn't have a num pad for how big the laptop itself is, but that can obviously be changed if you hook up a keyboard. I've had the laptop almost 2 years now. The only issue that's popped up is something with the internal speakers, but other than that, it's held up quite well for getting used nearly daily.

My gaming preferences are all over the place. So because of that I was able to test performance on a variety of games. Sports games such as FIFA and NBA 2k, FPSs such as Halo the Masterchief Collection, to strategy games such as Civ 6 which in my opinion can be very CPU intensive if you run the largest maps with full leaders. This PC ran them all very smooth.
Barring compatibility issues, I was able to run max settings on most games with no real problems. Games with heavy ray tracing will take a dip on this rig but still well within acceptable performance for my needs. Keep in mind I'm not a elitist when it comes to gaming needs. I don't NEED to have the highest visual fidelity AND high FPS at the same time. Given the choice between visuals and performance, I tend to take performance.
As a rough test of strength I ran the Bright Memory: Infinite Ray Tracing Benchmark and was able to get 72 fps average in performance mode and 85 fps in Turbo mode. Keep in mind the laptop will automatically switch to Turbo mode when plugged into wall outlet and Performance when running on battery. That's pretty solid.
Out of my friends that primarily game on PC, I don't know anyone that uses the standard touchpad in game. Playing with the touchpad is cramped in the center, but If you're investing into a gaming laptop it's almost mandatory to use a dedicated gaming mouse or controller. So I can't fault the laptop for that.
It took a few hours to break in the mechanical keyboard. The little nephew had some frustrating moments in Roblox from a slightly sticky spacebar as well as myself on platforming games. After a day, no more issues whatsoever with the keyboard.
Battery life isn't the strongest. I was only able to get 2 1/2 hours of game time, even with less intensive games like KOTOR, Morrowind, or The Stanley Parable.
The sound quality is more than great. Feels like it was optimized for gaming. weapon sounds, ambient noise, dialogue, in game music, it all sounded crisp and full.
Other than mediocre battery life and noticeable fan noise I think this is a pretty good gaming set up. Easy enough to use out of box because the laptop will sense which mode to enter, Silent, Performance, Turbo.

The ASUS ROG 16" WUXGA 144Hz Gaming Laptop has exceeded all my expectations! As someone who isn't necessarily a gamer, I've discovered the true power and versatility of this machine. Its reliability is unmatched, handling everything I throw at it with ease.
The Intel Core i7 processor combined with 16GB of memory and the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti graphics card ensure smooth performance and lightning-fast response times. Whether I'm multitasking, editing photos and videos, or simply browsing the web, this laptop handles it all flawlessly.
I never thought I would need the power of a gaming laptop, but now I can't imagine going back. This ASUS ROG laptop has set a new standard for me, and I can confidently say it's the best laptop I've ever owned.

As point of full disclousure, I typically use computers that run macOS, but I do appreciate Windows machines as well - especially for gaming. One of my favorite games to play is Gears of War. Once I got this laptop set-up, that game was the first thing I downloaded. I was impressed by how smoothly game play was and aside from getting used to the controls (I usually play on a console), I thought the expereince was quite enjoyable. The only criticism I have about this machine as a gaming laptop, is the hard drive size. It’s very difficult to have more than a couple of games stored at one time. The laptop has a built-in ‘riser’ of sorts to help with ventilation, but if you are playing for a long time, the computer still gets hot. I haven’t noticed the heat causing any problems for performance, but it’s something to be aware of if you are long-term gamer.
I love the overall look and feel of the keyboard. First of all, it’s RGB backlit and that makes me super happy. The keyboard itself doesn't get very hot and you can adjust the colors and patterns of the keyboard within the ASUS ROG software. The keys feel soft and are easy to type on. One of the things I typically do as a test for keyboards is to run a typing test for speed and accuracy. When I did that with this keyboard/laptop, I got a score of 74 WPM and accuracy of 99%. That is a higher score than I usually get. I usually average 70-72 WPM. Comfortable typing is a big feature for me and being able to move around the keyboard faster than normal is great for gaming.
PERFORMANCE
To get a sense for the computer’s actual performance I ran a series of tests using Geekbench, Novabench and CrystalDiskMark. As I said above, the computer has been running very smoothly. It’s been very responsive and able to handle the tasks I’ve thrown at it. Given that this computer is mainly built for gaming and application performance, those are the main areas that I was testing when I was using the laptop.
GEEKBENCH RESULTS
The GU603HE ended up with a single-core score of 1089 and a multi-core score of 6549. According to other Geekbench results, the top scoring machine with an Intel i7 processor is 1710/9891. In this regard, the ASUS is performing below the top performing machine. The OpenCL test looks specifically at how well the GPU performs. The GE603HE has an GeForce RTX 3060 Ti Laptop GPU integrated graphics chipset. The OpenCL score was 60954. Looking at other GeForce RTX 3060 Ti Laptop GPUs that have been tested on Geekbench, the average score is 50661. With that in mind, the GU603HE is performing a bit higher than the average.
NOVABENCH RESULTS
NovaBench does a similar type of testing on your system but provides you with a different set of scores and analysis. The overall score of this laptop was 3141 and had a CPU score of 1758 and GPU score of 876. According to Novabench’s comparison tool, the GU603HE ranks 96th in overall performance. It’s overall score is 24% higher than other mid-level gaming PCs, CPU score is 76% higher and the GPU score is 12% lower.
HARD DRIVE SPEED
Finally, I wanted to test the hard drive’s speed. This model of the HP Envy comes with 512GB SSD. According to the stress test I used (64GB), the top read/write speed of this SSD is 3459/1630 MB/s.
The ASUS ROG is a wonderful gaming laptop that can be used for other purposes, too. It’s a mid-level gaming computer that will work just fine for most users. If you are a competitive gamer, you will likely want a more custom machine. Overall, I think this is a good investment.

I am new to computers in this price range and don't really know what it is I should be expecting. I can only compare it to my Core i3 Alienware 8GB Ram 2GB GPU my parents purchased 10 years ago for the same price while I was in college. I was able to find this computer open box for a fraction of the price, and given what I paid for it, I cant rate it anything less than 5 stars. the graphics card alone cost what I paid for this computer. It runs amazing. Had I paid full price however, and the review gets substantially more critical. There are several things about this computer I just do not like. The keyboard for example is extremely squishy and causes me to mistype a lot. the backlighting is pretty dim. the trackpad is nice, but I got to get used to it because it's hard to get the right clicks and the left clicks correctly since its one solid and quite sensitive square. my least favorite part were the speakers, because although they sound very good quality, they don't get loud enough to hear anything when my fan is on. if I'm not playing any games the battery lasts about 5-6 hours but with a game on it goes down to about 2-3. which is about the same battery life I got from my AW. I suppose its to be expected since this computer is twice as fast. I am running it on windows 10. I owned a windows 10 laptop which I upgraded to windows 11 and the performance tanked, became almost unusable. That being said I am waiting off on windows 11. This computer should have no issues running it given the fact that it costs 10 times the price, but I wont take any chances messing up such an expensive laptop. overall 4.4/5 or 8/10.

Overall, a great laptop for under $1500. Checks almost all boxes that gamers need and I can see this running modern games smoothly for at least the next 3 years but there are some small features missing:
Pros: Graphics, accessibility, screen size, light weight, and tactile keyboard
Cons: Loud when running any game, only 4-6 hour battery life, some high end games struggle @ 60 FPS without tweaking, not enough storage for many modern games, missing NumPad (why is this not standard on any laptop >15"??)
Graphics - The graphics run fairly smooth with most modern games. I did have some struggle hitting a consistent 60 FPS on extreme graphics settings on games like Halo and Gears of War 5. But tweaking some graphics settings in the game and NVIDIA settings helped smooth the frame rate.
Another nice feature is the full 16" screen with super slim frame. The laptop size feels like a 14", but the extra screen size is noticeably large.
Accessibility - The keyboard response is very nice (honestly tilted the scales from another laptop with similar specs). Of course not the mechanical gaming feel, but its not too flush as to feel your typing on a tablet. The function keys are nicely layed out for gaming purposes. This laptop has all the modern and older ports that we gamers actually like to use. (Yes, I still hardline my internet for multiplayer games and large downloads).
Storage/ Memory - with 16GB of RAM, there is no issue with multitasking, even while running a game. However, with 512 SSD, I found myself out of storage after 5 of my favorite games.

Definitely one of the best laptops I’ve bought for under $1,500.
It is powerful. Asus makes it a priority for the screen to be vivid and lush for images. I tried couple other brands before this and the screen is definitely the best in Asus for gaming.
It is not the quietest, but not too loud either. Can get little heated up when gaming hardcore.

Bought this laptop almost two years ago for my brother. Still works great to this day. Obviously hindered by the amount of storage it’s easy to customize. Has plenty of ports for storage and the ram can be replaced easily. Battery life hasn’t noticeably dropped yet and still runs all of the games my brother plays without any slowdown. The only reason it’s 4 stars is the storage, if you’re looking to download multiple games especially today where most games popular run 90+gigs; you may want to consider something with more storage. Other than that this laptop was the perfect gift

I love it for my PC games. Processing speeds are astronomical, game quality is almost flawless. High graphics. It truly is an amazing laptop for gaming.
The battery life is not the best, but what do you expect? It’s a laptop.
Also, the fan can get kind of loud when the laptop heats up (which is quickly), and the storage space is warm.

Amount paid: $1200
Who is it for: People who want lots of cores and cuda with design quality comparable to the best. Great for work and light gaming.
Not good for long battery life or high resolution gaming.
Pros:
- Raw performance comparable to the 5900HX and M1
- Easy to overclock or undervolt and tinker around in general
- Beautiful and compact design
- Outstanding display
- Thermals are very good
- Space for second M.2 and additional SODIMM/ram
- Great speakers with custom EQ options
- Amazing array of ports including thunderbolt 4, 3.5 aux and micro sd
- Touch pad is pretty good
Cons:
- The keys on the key board are arbitrarily small
- RTX 3050 ti is memory deprived at 4GB, expect to be limited to 1080p at low textures for gaming
- Some tinkering is required to achieve optimal performance
- One of the memory modules are soldered which is unnecessary and removes dual channel if upgraded
- The torquing tolerances of the bottom plate screws are ridiculous and clearly out to damage your system
- Battery life is poor out of the box, and even with tinkering
you only will get 5-6 hours of screen on time with light usage.

The ASUS M16 series has some of the most compact yet powerful laptops available right now. This laptop has a great screen with powerful specs and is absolutely a delight to work on, but has a couple of flaws that's forcing me to return this and perhaps wait for the Legion 7 Slim 2022 laptops to become available.
This laptop heats up a lot. With mild tasks in silent mode, the CPU temperature reaches 70C very frequently and the top region of the keyboard (and the backside too) feels really hot. I'm not sure what impact does this high temperature have on the longevity of the components.
Secondly, the compact design of the laptop with a 16 inch, 16:10 screen has a vent at the front that directly exhausts hot air to the bottom region of the screen. I'm not sure what effect does it have on the long term performance of the display.
Also, the battery life is 4-5 hours for mild tasks, and not even close to 10 hours as claimed by ASUS.

I really wanted to keep this machine. It had a beautiful screen, all the power I needed (I am not a gamer, but as a developer I needed a powerful mobile machine), good keyboard, good connectivity, light weight (I didn't have time to test the battery). However, I returned it the next day. The first thing I did was to install Linux and this thing ran hot to the point of being almost unusable (extremely hot under the chassis and above the keyboard) and the fans were uncomfortably loud. All this even if the machine was idle. Thinking it was a Linux issue (poor support for a relatively new processor at the time perhaps?), I re-installed Windows. Same issues, so not related to Linux. I had to return the machine, I have no time to research solutions. Unfortunately, I have since then avoided Asus laptops since I can avid noticing how hot these machine are just sitting in Best Buy doing nothing. I got a Lenovo instead for my wife recently and I am considering getting a Lenovo Legion machine (still for my programming needs) even if on paper some of the specs of similar Asus laptops are more tempting.

TLDR: May not be worth the price because of some significant drawbacks.
I've been using this laptop for over a year now. Although it's been great performance-wise, it has several significant issues as well.
Pros:
1. Great performance. I've been playing games and using it for coding projects and I don't have any complaints.
2. Great screen.
3. Decent keyboard. Although my 'E' key stopped working, the keyboard's feel is pretty good.
4. Ports: you can plug in everything you want. Having an HDMI port has been really helpful.
Cons:
1. Battery life: this is the worst battery life on any device I've ever owned. My battery saver is almost always on and even then it only lasts for 2-3 hours.
2. Webcam: similar quality to a 2002 flip phone camera.
3. This may be a Windows issue and not specific to this laptop: it sometimes doesn't go to sleep when the lid is closed and is really hot when I use it again.
4. Speakers: they're really bad.
