Customers are delighted by the ROG Zephyrus 14" gaming laptop's impressive performance, long battery life, and portable design. Many appreciate its lightweight nature and the vibrant display, although some users note that the device can get warm under heavy use and that the fan can be noisy at times. The lack of a built-in webcam and limited storage are also frequently cited drawbacks. Overall, the laptop receives positive feedback for its combination of power and portability, despite some minor issues.

Solid machine, but not as beefy as 2021's version

The 2022 Asus ROG 14" Zephyrus looks physically and on-paper almost identical to it's 2021 counterpart. The main difference between the 2021 and 2022 versions are that the newer version sports a slight spec downgrade from the 2021 version, which is what I'm comparing it to. In terms of what you get in the box, you get the 14" laptop, power brick, 120v power cable, and some standard info sheets. That's it. The presentation that Asus puts into the ROG packaging is amazing. When you open the box up, the laptop actually tilts up towards you to make getting it out of the box easier. It's the same presentation as the 2021 version, but hey if it ain't broke, right? In terms of specs, you get: - 14" 1080p LED display w/ 144hz refresh rate capability - AMD Ryzen 7 5000 series CPU - Nvidia RTX 3060 Laptop GPU - 16GB RAM - 512 PCIe SSD - 2 USB-A ports - 2 USB-C ports (left one can be used to power laptop or as DisplayPort) - 1 HDMI output port - 1 Unified headphone / mic port The machine comes with Windows 11 Home pre-installed and ready for setup. It took about 5-10 minutes to complete the startup, owning mostly to the Windows 11 pop-ups, customization options, and several reboots. Once I was into Windows, I set out downloading Steam and the various other software updates. It kills me that in 2022, you still need to set aside about an hour running software updates on a machine right out of the box. Once that was done, I pulled down the updated GeForce Game Ready driver and launched Doom Eternal as a test run. I was able to use about the same specs as I could on my 2021 Ryzen 9 laptop and didn't notice too much difference between the 2. Asus's Armoury Crate app allows for customization of the laptop depending on the situation, when I fired Doom Eternal up, the fans immediately picked up. I swapped over to Armoury Crate and switched it from Balanced to Performance mode which kicks the fans up and allows the machine to run hotter. I have to use headphones when I play, because the fans on this thing can get LOUD, like more than white noise loud. It's cool, because I want to push this to game as best as I can. I'm not sure if the spec downgrade was Asus's response to dealing with supply chain or chip shortage constraints, but going from a Ryzen 9 series to a Ryzen 7 and cutting the hard drive space in half while charging about the same is a bit odd to me. For example, at regular price, this version is only $150 cheaper than the 2021 was. But the 2021 is on clearance now, and it's actually $50 cheaper at Best Buy... and you can find the 2021 in stores for pick up while the 2022's availability is like 2-3 weeks out. All that aside, I really like these ROG laptops. They pack enough of a punch that you can use them as either gaming or content creation devices without missing a beat. The Armoury Crate software allows for some nice system control and customization. The battery life is OK, but if you're going to game, plug it in. The screen is bright and beautiful and even Pantone validated. If you're looking for a good gaming on the go machine, this is a pretty nice catch. If you have the 2021 Ryzen 9 version, this would be a downgrade, so I'd hold off for next years version if you're dying to upgrade.

It works well, its a good spec computer that can run the Esports titles ive thrown at it with ease on high settings. Had to wind down the settings to medium for Fortnite and it gets 100+ FPS on the 1080p 144 hz screen. Using it for schoolwork, I put it in Silent mode, which as the name suggests, silent. Make sure youre in a cooler room, because as far as i can tell it completely turns off the fans. While gaming with the Turbo or Performance modes in armoury crate, it is LOUD. The fans on turbo can crank up to over 5000 rpm, and its a noisy little monster. Performance mode can be audible, but not moreso than any background noise or an AC. Final gripe, the keyboard is kind of weird and the backlighting isnt the best. Keys feel fine. And theres no Webcam, so youll need to link to your phone, which you can do, or buy a webcam and plug it in.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great laptop. Just... watch more than one review. I don't want people's expectations to soar with the hype surrounding it. The Ryzen CPU is great, and the RAM capacity and speed match the CPU well, The GPU is a little overpowered for the display, but otherwise great. The soundstage produced by the speakers is honestly pretty wild, and the Bluetooth audio was the easiest experience I've had in Linux so far. The storage is adequate, although a user-upgraded 1TB SSD might not hurt. However, The keyboard has very... strange spacing. It doesn't have a webcam, and the speakers on my unit were damaged, although it was an easy repair. Plus, Linux compatibility was hit-or-miss, and I have yet to get the fingerprint sensor working because of this. Also, the battery life is middle of the road, with even low-intensity use getting maybe 6 hours. So, overall, great laptop, just don't get drowned in hype.

After a couple months of use, laptop is pretty good. Runs games well and able to do school work on it. Only problem is that the fans can get loud and laptop can get hot. Laptop also came with 1 dead pixel but its not too noticeable.

Great looking modern computer, solid feel, and fast. The screen is very clear and the keys feel nice. Weight is a little much for a smaller gaming computer, but larger battery is part of that weight, and get several hours of gaming. Good buy if you can get it on sale.

Everything about this laptop is an amazing upgrade from my 7-year old Lenovo laptop. It's super fast, and it runs games pretty well. However, the reason behind the 4-stars is due to a few things that I feel like was enough for me to bump it down a star. There are some issues with it having to disconnect often from my Wi-Fi at home for whatever reason, and it could just be my router, but it's disconnected multiple times while I'd be gaming or browsing the internet. My old laptop, while slow, hasn't had this disconnecting issue all too much. I feel like if this laptop had an ethernet plug, it would make up for this issue I've been having, but you'd need to buy an adapter (most likely a USB-C to Ethernet adapter) if you don't want the constant disconnecting issues. Other than that, the laptop itself is pretty solid. I highly recommend it.

Absolutely perfect gaming laptop. This is a BEAST! The only thing..get a monitor since the screen is tiny. It does get hot fast so I recommend some sort of cooling pad/fan to keep it off of a flat service. Graphics are incredible. I use it when I stream and I’m blown away.

A Very Nice Gaming Laptop That Can Work Too

Acer Gaming Laptop I have had purchased and used a fairly large number of laptop computers over the past 33 years. I confess, I am not a gamer though I have played games on PC's from time to time. My intention was to provide my grandchildren with a PC to play games when they come to visit. What I have found about this ASUS computer is that it makes a decent work computer as well. With that in mind, this is what I liked about this ASUS laptop. The packaging for this computer does a good job of protecting the computer during shipping. The shell is metal and looks very nice. The PC build is light but solid. The screen size is 14" which I think is the perfect size for a laptop. The keys on the keyboard are a nice size and the layout is comfortable to type on. The config I received included 16GB RAM, 512 GB SSD and AMD Ryzen 7 processor. Those specs are similar to the higher end laptops I have purchased recently. The screen is excellent. I am very satisfied with the hardware. Ports Included Left Side Power Connector HDMI Video 1-USB-C Headphone Jack Right Side 2-USB Ports 1-USB-C Not a big deal to me but the PC does not include a camera. Overall the specs on this notebook is more than sufficient. I have only had this notebook about 3 days and I have not spent a large amount of time testing and trying it out. I have to say so far, I am impressed. I would have no problem recommending this notebook PC to someone and I look forward to my family and I using it for years to come.

I bought this computer because I wanted a powerfull yet small pc that I could take anywhere, since I move around a lot. I made a lot of research and concluded that the G14 was the best choice for me. So far my experience has been amazing. I can play all the games i had always wanted at max graphics. When I am not gaming the battery last a really long time. The keyboard is a real pleasure for me. The only downsides are that it gets noisy when gaming but since I use headphones it is not a problem for me. Also it gets a little hot in your lap but only if you are doing medium to heavy stuff. Finally, i strongly recommend this product if you are the kind of person that tends to move around and need a pc portable to move around. Be prepared to invest a couple more dollars for gadgets (HUB, 65W usb-c wall charger, etc) and upgrades (RAM, SSD) to get the full out of this machine.

Played Destiny 2 and Diablo 4 on it in the hospital after several surgeries and was as happy with the performance as I am with my Alienware 17” except this thing can go places with me and that thing makes sure nobody could steal the dresser it sits on as long as they don’t take it off first. Super portable while having excellent performance and a great screen. For getting a great deal on it for Black Friday I couldn’t complain about this if I shut my finger in between the screen and the case. Would probably just apologize to it and thank it for being there for me. Get one, it’s a solid little device.

I bought this laptop for my wife while this was on sale during Best Buy's back-to-school sale. While my time with this laptop has been fairly short (took about 2 1/2 weeks for this to ship and deliver) I believe I can still write up a fair summary of my experiences. Coming from a GTX 1050Ti, the RTX 3060 is a clear upgrade. We're currently playing Dying Light 2, set to High Quality Raytracing (DLSS set to performance) on 1080p. While we're not getting anywhere near 144fps, it still runs at a modest 45-50fps, which I believe is playable with no complaints. This is my first time using a processor that isn't Intel, so my knowledge is limited, but it seems the i7-8700k is comparable to this Ryzen 7. My only complaint with the CPU is that ASUS' dynamic boost causes the CPU to run very hot, very quickly. We reached 85°C playing games, in less than 10 minutes, even with a cooling pad. This purchase doubled her RAM capacity from 8GB DDR3 to 16GB DDR4, so only positives there. The reasons I'm knocking this down to 4 stars is because of the following: There's no Ethernet port. The laptop runs hot. The SSD, while decent capacity, 512GB drains quickly. I know USB-C is pretty much the future, but I feel like only 2 USB-A ports isn't nearly enough. Obviously a few of these can be fixed by buying an external hard drive for more space, a usb hub for more ports and one that even includes an Ethernet port. Overall, I'm happy with the purchase and would purchase it again. This laptop seems like a good purchase for someone looking to do mid-tier gaming, possibly photo and video editing while on the go.

The laptop is powerful enough for its price range. Havent had any issues running games on it. I was even able to play Starfield at 48+fps. Not a perfect experience but still was able to play it at work until I got home to use my desktop. For work the laptop is nice and slim which gives it great portability. Definitely suggest getting a good type c hub to allow broader connection options. The display is a bit dim but using the scenery profile in Asus Armory allows the laptop to be used in non-direct unlit environments. At least enough to see the screen and get work done.

    Portable and Powerful Gaming Laptop

When evaluating a gaming laptop, I am looking at factors related to performance. I want a laptop that is fast, powerful, quiet and has stunning graphics. This laptop is a top performer on all of these levels. ASUS packed a lot of power into a small laptop that is capable of performing with much larger computers. Once the game was downloaded, it loaded quickly and was up in no time. I evaluated it using Halo, since it is a game that I am familiar with and is graphic intensive. There was virtually no lag while playing and the components all responded very quickly. The keyboard was much nicer than with others I have used. While the trackpad was very good, I prefer to use a gaming mouse with programmable buttons and ease of use and fast response times. The screen was stunning with colors and the graphics were very high quality. Everything about this laptop exceeded my expectations. It was an added bonus that it allows for biometric sign in and it works flawlessly. Boot up is extremely fast and programs load quickly. This is an ideal laptop not only gaming, but for all business applications as well. It did not become overly hot, but the cooling fan was working hard with turbo mode. While the fan isn’t overly quiet, it does a great of not allowing it to overheat with intense use. The Armoury Crate configuration program is also very handy for optimally configuring the system, offering several views into system performance.

Fantastic laptop. I purchased as an open box item but it was basically new. Battery life is great when on battery in standard mode but no dGPU (Meaning, not using NVIDIA GPU) - i get about 8-10 hours depending on how many tabs are open etc. Gaming wise, plugged in i am able to play Spider-Man remastered at about 90-120FPS with DLSS enabled. On battery, i have used on a plane and it limits the FPS to 30 and i get about an hour. At the end of the day, physics wins out. It is my secondary gaming device for when i am travelling and does so very, very well.

I run games like Fortnite, Sea of Thieves, Call of Duty, and plenty others on high to ultra graphics. This laptop is much better than any MacBook you could get for anywhere near this price.

Looks nice and it's a capable PC, with one major missing component being that it has "NO camera" which prompts you to be moving around with a webcam always if you plan on doing video calls. Quite a solid battery that can last 4-5 hours using straight. It's not exactly slim, but it's light in weight. and the fingerprint being at the power button was quite confusing at first too!

Bought this laptop on sale for $899. At this price, it's a heck of a bargain. Performance is excellent, can handle some games such as Mw2 on Ultra at 30 FPS. Gets quite hot but that's expected for a laptop. I have had some display issues with it not detecting monitors or the screen blinking sometimes, but not enough for it to be a problem.

Gets hot quick, to be expected from a gaming laptop. Battery is decent. It def needs a charge after an hour or two, depending on game settings and pc settings. Ark on Ultra is obviously going to turn any pc into a furnace, but this bad boy transforms into the core of a nuclear reactor. So be sure to grab a cooler and exercise proper charging routines. (Dont leave it plugged up) and this thing will last you through several years of expansive playthroughs. Every game has been put into the highest graphic option and runs flawlessly. (Ark, biomutant, stray, scum, division 2, etc.) Grab it on a deal if ones active cause its definitely worth it. Wife uses it for school/work/gaming but like stated heat is definitely a deterrent for extended play sessions.
