Packing a Ryzen 9 CPU and RTX 2060 GPU, the 2020 Zephyrus G14 was a powerful 1080p gaming laptop. While it can still run many modern games at decent settings, consider newer models with RTX 30 or 40 series GPUs for the latest performance and features. If you find a great deal on the 2020 G14, it's a good option for casual gamers or those prioritizing portability, but aim for newer models if possible.

This thing is amazing in so many ways. The gaming performance is amazing even when left on default Performance settings in Hybrid mode. It does get hot but I use a laptop desk while gaming so I don't notice it. The screen is great. It has great brightness and no backight bleed of any kind. The battery life is amazing. The sound from the 4 speakers is the best I've ever heard for built ins. It's simply a great machine.

Great gaming laptop. Typical Asus quality I’ve grown to expect. I wish the HDMI worked as an output, but the USB-c works fantastically. I can play every game on full specs. Definitely want a cooler mat if you’re using it for very long.

Maybe my opinion doesn't count because I am a person who despises laptops and has never had a good one before, but this is the best laptop I have ever seen. Yes, it is true that it is no longer the amazing value that the older models used to be, but it is still a fantastic laptop for the price. I have been extremely impressed with the performance, and this is coming from someone who has built custom desktop gaming PC's before. The screen is amazing. 16 by 10 displays feel really nice and uncrampted. I have also gotten the battery to last all day thanks to the MUX switch which allows you to turn on or off the dGPU. Just a small warning, I did not realize that this is the model that does not have the Anime Matrix, so don't make the same mistake I did. If you want that one, look somewhere else. Great little laptop regardless of that small mix up I had.

This version of the laptop is outstanding for productivity on the go with the convenient size and taller screen aspect ratio (2560 x 1600). The gaming performance runs into issues as it struggles to run the native resolution at usable fps unless playing an older game. The power profile settings controlled by Armory Crate cause it to use aggressive boost unless on silent mode or a custom windows power profile. You can adjust the boost by altering the windows registry to unlock power profiles and changing the windows power settings to efficient or disable boost, which will drastically reduce temperatures while having minimal loss in performance. The 6800S and boosted CPU power profile use a significant amount of power and make the laptop run scorching hot, as high as 95C. If you want this for gaming, I would recommend considering the 6700S version, which will have lower power draw and temperatures. Unfortunately, only the 6800S version is capable of reaching the platform's maximum memory capacity due to the permanently soldered RAM module. The SSD that it comes with has mediocre speed and capacity. This year's addition of a 720p camera is better than none, but could have been better. The keyboard and frame are good quality, but develops hot spots on the keyboard that are uncomfortable to touch when gaming.

Awesome laptop for gaming. Love how compact and lightweight it feels. The display is super vivid and beautiful. It runs pretty hot when playing stuff, but I suppose that's to be expected. Would recommend!

Even though this was the 3rd Zephyrus that I owned and bought from Best Buy, it was worth the effort and trouble to get.
I have the model with the 6800S AMD GPU, and I can play all games at reasonable Frame Rates, all the while having much better battery life (10 hours) than I was expecting.
My first Zephyrus Laptop with the 6800S had a defective GPU, so I traded it in for one that had the Nvidia 3060, and was not impressed, other than the fact that this particular model did not have a large Touchpad and had no RGB lit keyboard, either.
The games played at decent rates, but overall I was not impressed, so I went back to the AMD 6800S GPU, and thus far, it's been a really good find for me in Game play and in Battery Life, which has been 10 hours between charges, so that is a good thing.

Great laptop that's a great size if you're looking for a smaller portable laptop. Haven't had any issues playing any game including new titles like MWII and Battlefield. Also great for Adobe products like photoshop and lightroom. Gets warm/hot while under load like others have said but nothing that has been worrisome. The screen was a big selling point as well, and after playing games and using for creative things it definitely delivers.

This laptop is clean. I’m not an expert or pro but it handles my games beautifully. The graphics are clear. It does get quite hot while running my games so I paired it with a Targus cooling mat and I run another fan next to it and it helps cool it down significantly. Overall very happy with my first laptop that’s not a MacBook! Great for running games and doing work.

Best Laptop, Possibly Ever

I bought the 2020 model of the Zephyrus G14 2 years ago to finish up my last 2 semesters of mechanical engineering. It ran all of my CAD courses, Fluid Dynamics courses, and I compiled everything with my senior design project the same year. From compiling code, running simulations, and just typing my thesis out, it excelled in. While my peers lugged huge laptops around that sounded like jets and required an outlet, I could pull mine out in the middle of class and run all day on just the battery.
But this review isn't for the 2020, this is for the 2022. I had such high recommendations from the model year I had, I bought this laptop for one of my best friends so he could also use it for his own projects outside of school. He's an avid electrical engineer who has a ton of projects going on all the time. However the laptop packs way more punch with much better battery life compared to the 2020. Both had the Ryzen 9, but the 6800HS is absolutely ridiculous both in terms of performance and is better than my desktop i7-8700K in almost every measure. Being paired with the 6800S for a GPU it also beats the RTX 2060 max-q in the 2020. I don't know if ray tracing performance is better but with access to AMD FSR 2.X, it doesn't matter. It handles gaming with ease. It also benefits from the ability to game on the go much better because of the MUX switch so it can use the dGPU to run the display rather than the iGPU. Sure the battery won't last long, but for a couple hours it's great for a short coffee trip. The I/O is better now including an SD card slot so he can throw prints directly from the laptop into an SD card for his printer with no issues. I've been debating on upgrading since I also 3D print and take my camera with me wherever I go and being able to directly download the photos is awesome.
If you think you want a gaming desktop but are extremely casual, this machine is a much better choice. You don't need to buy any peripherals, except for a mouse to make movements easier. For students in engineering school, forget what any store associate says about getting a Mac (the M1 is just barely more efficient than the 6800HS anyway). Windows will load any program you will ever need for your entire degree from Bachelor's to a PhD. For content creators, the only benefit might be to go for the RTX 3060 model so you get the GeForce suite for recording and clips when in game (AMD Adrenaline isn't bad, but GeForce is objectively better).
Tl;Dr this laptop is great, get it. Especially when it goes on sale.

I was initially a little unlucky with my first model having a display issue, but after returning it I got a good one this time. My new one has a little bit of backlight bleed but is definitely good enough.
The real strength of this device is the power inside of this kind of form factor. It is basically a thin and light with the power of a good desktop from a few years ago. Can run doom eternal max settings (no raytracting) at 1440p at above 100 fps. Thing is an amazing hybrid gaming/school/ productivity device. This thing is great for gamers who want device that is a good regular use laptop as well. Was considering getting a Dell XPS 15 before but given the price and performance and size and quality of this device, it was an easy decision. The only other 14 inch laptop that has this kind of size and power and build quality is the razer blade which is considerably more expensive for basically the same performance.
Despite having a bad one initially, this is definitely the best gaming laptop on the market for a power AND portability combo.

Gaming: Can take my favorite Steam/Xbox games on the go. Barely any issue running AAA Games at near Ultra Settings.
Work: Editing and processing videos is a breeze. Loading files and working off an external hard drive is great. Has also saved me a few times when my work desktop goes out while teaching and need to quickly bring up my presentations via hdmi port.
Entertainment: Love watching movies and plugging into my monitors.

I’ve been a user of the G14 since the initial 2020 model. My overall review of this laptop is great, however, I’ve noticed a major drop in battery life on idle between this one and the 2020 model. I use to get 5-7 hours on idle or light internet browsing. But with the 6800s model, I only get about 1-3 hours of light browsing until I need to recharge. Disappointed with the drop in battery life, but the unit is a powerful machine.

This laptop is great. I don’t think it’s worth paying the full $1899 price though because the 2023 4070 g14 would be the better value.
1 star off due to being extremely hot. The laptop would shut down on me even in performance mode while gaming. Had to switch to turbo to play anything.
