Customers are saying

Customers often highlight the excellent performance, impressive build quality, and long battery life of the ROG Zephyrus 15.6" QHD Gaming Laptop. Many also praise its powerful GPU, lightweight design, and vibrant display, along with the keyboard. However, some users mention that the laptop can get hot, and the fan noise can be noticeable. Other criticisms include the soldered RAM, less-than-stellar speakers, and the absence of a built-in webcam.

If your thinking abt buying- PICKUP AT A STORE- if you pick it up, you can ask to open it there in the store to check for QUALITY Control. None, take it home, if you find some ask for a refund or a new model if they have it in stock. Yes there are quality control in some units, but that’s only a few out of 100s of models. Mine came and the only thing “wrong” is the screen bended a bit when closed (noticed a bit in store but decided to get it anyway) remember, asus/bestbuy is trying to help you. If you get low performance make sure you restart your laptop before benchmarks. 8700 in time spy to 9300 after a restart. Temps are OK. My unit was pretty good as in warzone maximum cpu temp were at around 90-93C. And sometimes spike to 95. But warzone is the most cpu temp heavy game. But playing esports titles, it would spike 90 max, but when your playing avg is 77-80C in valorant 1440p high [150-200 FPS ] Battery life is great, getting around 8-10 hours of browsing the web with multiple tabs and programing. It’s a good laptop, performance is ok, you can expect performance to be exactly like a 5700XT or 10% better than a desktop 2060.

Asus Zephyrus G15 (2021) - An Absolute Beast!

I have owned the laptop for just around 4 days now and these are my early impressions…spoiler: they’re pretty great. Overall build quality is excellent and it comes in a space grey color. It is constructed from a mix of aluminum and plastic. The top lid itself is a nice aluminum, while the rest of the body is plastic. While the materials aren’t premium, it does allow the machine to be more economically friendly as well as lighter, which is a plus in my book. It is prone to smudges and light wear, so keep that in mind. I think it will be fairly durable, but it won’t look new for long (you can actually see the smudges in my photos-I didn't clean the laptop to help show this - it does clean easily though). The hinge is the best in the business. It is Asus’s ergolift hinge. There is rubber feat on the bottom of the display which lifts the bottom of the laptop at an angle. This has two benefits: first it allows for proper heat flow into the intake vents on the bottom of the laptop. And lastly it allows the keyboard to be positioned at a more comfortable typing angle. The hinge allows the lid to be a one hand open and rotates 180 degrees, allowing the screen to lay flat on the desk. It’s also very firm, so when opening or closing, there is perfect resistance. It is really, really nice. The Display is a 15.6” LED matte display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 and it has a refresh rate of 165Hz! This display is excellent and it easily has one of the best panels I’ve tested. Colors are very accurate (see calibration results below) and contrast is nice as well. Viewing off-axis is good, but not great. There is some minor color washout as you move past 120 degrees off-axis, but it is minor and still looks nice. sRGB – 100% NTSC – 86% AdobeRGB -89% P3 -95% The keyboard is as close to perfect as I can think of…not only is it angled thanks to the ergolift hinge, but it’s properly spaced out, the layout is perfect, it is backlit and has excellent travel. My only personal nitpick is the feel of the keycaps themselves. It has a rubberized feel to it. I prefer a nice plastic keycap myself. Again, personal preferences. One thing to note: there is a LOT of heat that comes through the keyboard itself and it can be a slight discomfort over time. It was something I most definitely noticed, even during normal use. Below I have included thermal readings to illuminate this. The touchpad is a slight negative as well…It is VERY large, which is a good thing, sort of. The palm rejection in Windows isn’t anywhere near as good as the Mac side of things and my cursor constantly drifts. I always disable touch to tap feature in windows, so nothing gets activated, but it could be a problem for some, if that feature is left on. The trackpad is constructed from glass and is a windows precision trackpad and it feels wonderful. Palm rejection aside, it is an excellent trackpad. It’s as close to a macbook trackpad I have seen, even down to the click mechanism (by this, I mean the auditory sound produced, not the actual force touch side of things). The speakers are nice. They’re not MacBook Pro 16 levels of greatness (nothing is) but they’re better than about 90% of the laptops out there. The mids are great, the highs are good, but tend to falter and the lows are boomy and leave a lot to be desired. They don’t get overly loud either at around 81db’s. The placement is perfect as they are adjacent the keyboard and we have stereo separation too, which every device should strive for. Okay, let’s discuss the internals. This particular model came with: o AMD Ryzen 9 5900HS 3.3ghz 8-core Processor o Nvidia RTX 3070 Max-Q 8gb Graphics Card o 16gb’s DDR4 RAM (8gb’s soldered on motherboard & 8gb Stick -upgradeable to 32gb stick) o 1tb m.2 Solid-State Drive CPU performance is excellent - geekbench results below. Normal tasks won’t move the meter in terms of stressing this machine. Editing 4k video stressed it slightly but it still handled it without any issues. This is easily capable of editing video up to 4k as well as photo editing. Geekbench 5 numbers: 1461 single core & 7363 multi-core performance GPU performance is exceptionally good. I have only used the built-in screen for testing so far. And I have tested a few games at 1440p resolution at high settings. I plan on testing more games as well as running 4k tests as well, but I’ll save that for the video review. Below are my numbers so far: o Wolfenstein: New Colossus = 99fps o Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order = 53fps o Ori & the Will of Whisps = 79fps There is several fan presets you can cycle through with a simple touch of a button (fan icon on keyboard). I usually utilize the “silent” mode when doing basic computing and switch to “performance” mode when gaming or editing. The fans in silent mode are exactly that: silent (38.0db’s). During gaming or editing, they were on full blast and were 46.9db’s loud. A tremendous amount of heat is given off during gaming. Below is my temperature readings after just 30 minutes of gaming: WASD – 101 F Top middle keyboard – 118 F Top right Keyboard – 78 F Bottom Left Keyboard – 89 F Spacebar – 109 F Bottom Right Keyboard – 97 F Left Wrist Area – 86.3 F Trackpad – 81 F Right Wrist Area – 87 F Screen – 92 F Port Selection is almost perfect. While I don’t like proprietary power plugs, I understand it’s necessary here, so you have to accept that. Otherwise we have an HDMI port, Ethernet port, 2 USB type C ports, 2 USB type A ports and a micro SD card slot. Battery life is very poor. Yes, this is a gaming laptop, but still worse than I expected. For my reviews, I usually do a battery range, so I test the lowest demanding settings to get the longest life possible as well as stressing the laptop completely (editing/gaming) giving me the shortest battery life under high demand. While gaming at max brightness, fans on performance mode and a light backlight to the keyboard I got 83 minutes of battery life. While having the screen at minimum brightness, no backlit keyboard, fans on silent and web-surfing and word-processing, I was able to get 4 hours and 37 minutes. Total recharge time was impressive at 1 hour and 45 minutes. Okay the major negatives on this laptop: o No web-camera. This is bad, especially right now, in the day and age we live in. The web-camera used to be something not many people cared about (including myself), but it has become essential. Not having a web-camera in 2021 is a bad move on Asus’s part. o The lack of a full-size SD card slot is such a misstep. This is a powerful laptop, capable of editing, and to omit it is a bit shameful on Asus’s part. This is a gaming laptop, yes, but it’s an editing monster too. o The display doesn’t have touch integrated. This isn’t a big deal for me, even though I’ve been an advocate for touch displays, and is probably a cost saving on asus’s part. It is something to consider though if you just have to have a touchscreen. o The Fingerprint reader is bad. It is built into the power button and it just doesn’t work for me. I work with my hands a lot and wash my hands regularly, so it could just be me, however none of my other devices have given me this much trouble. It plain doesn’t work for me. Overall this a beast of a laptop. Whether you plan on using it for gaming or video editing, or both, you’re going to very, very happy with this. It is priced appropriately at $1799. With the impeccable quality and high-refresh rate of the screen, the incredible processing power, the amazing RTX 3070 gpu (desktop counterparts are impossible to buy right now), the wonderful keyboard and the state of the art hinge make this a recommended buy. It will be my daily driver for a while. It's great.

This is probably the best portable gaming laptop of 2021. Super slim and light for what it’s packing inside. It really bugged me about the 8gb of soldered ram, but I personally dont do any heavy graphics work or editing so 16gb dual channel is fine, and upgrading to 40 would be more than enough for me. I was also hoping for hdmi 2.1 on this but sadly that’s not the case. I’ll be getting a usb-c dock for my main desk set up with this laptop. I dont really like how close both the usb-c ports are and I would’ve preferred having one on each side like the other usb ports. I was torn between this and the ROG STRIX g17, but the easy of carry on this was much more suited for me. I ended up getting some great skins from M2 skins because the novelty of the reflective perforations got old quick, and I really wanted the laptop in white. Fingerprint scanner isnt the most reliable from my use so far. Keyboard and track pad are one of the best Ive felt from a laptop, great when Im traveling. My unit did not experience audio popping from bass, and I’m up to date on all bios and drivers. If you need more info on this, I’d recommend checking out digitaldigest on youtube. He’s had some in depth reviews with periodic updates over having used this laptop. It’s been nothing but a great purchase for me.

This is my second gaming laptop and this one will last me for a long while. Great for gaming and everything else. Love the screen, keyboard is nice, and so is the touchpad. Battery is decent too, but doesn't last too long while gaming, but this is to be expected. All the ports are on the left side, not a bother to me, but I can see why some might take an issue with it.

I have owned this laptop since July of 2021. I use it primarily for homework and gaming when out of town for work. It handles most AAA game titles on High settings at 60fps or higher. More performance focussed games such as FPS titles will make great use of the high refresh rate display. The smaller screen will let you get away with lowering your resolution if needed and with the use of DLSS you can get some great performance out of supported games. Be aware that the speakers on this device are decent, but not loud. Consider a nice Bluetooth speaker if you plan to watch movies with friends/family. Also, do NOT expect to be able to use this device easily in direct sunlight. Office use with open windows in fine.

I want to preface this by saying I really only play a few, less demanding games (overwatch, civ V, etc.) and I mostly use this for work. I have to tell you this thing is amazing! I have a USB-C dock set up with 2 HDMI (1080p 120hz) connections and a wireless keyboard/mouse attached to that and the fans are non existent. I had this exact same set up on a razer bade 15 and it sounded like it was going to blast off to the moon! Don't take a star off for the lack of a webcam, you know that going in, come on, folks. You can change the lighting and effects on the keyboard, I thought it was just white backlight or nothing. I was pleasantly surprised! Going to add a 16GB stick once it gets here. Key board has great travel distance and is spaced great. The increased trackpad size is an added bonus! The best buy pre order process is the only gripe I have as it is ATROCIOUS. My first order still says "in process", yet, today, I was able to go to my local store to purchase this. If I pre-order a month before it comes out and it's still faster for me to just go to the store 3 days after release date to get the product, that's messed up. Best Buy needs to do better.

A beautiful laptop with almost no flaws. This laptop ticked every box for me, it’s fast and powerful, I avg around 140 to 150 FPS on the built in performance mode on ultra setting at 1440p on overwatch, battery life is excellent for a gaming laptop, screen looks great build quality is good. Very nice large trackpad, loud speakers with some bass and the fans even on performance are loud but not whiny. However there’s a few minor cons, the keyboard does get a little warm after prolonged gaming. The screen although beautiful isn’t the brightest, don’t expect to be blinded by whites in a normally lit room. Cosmetically there is single zone rgb if you care about that and the colorful dots in the back they advertise so much are hardly noticeable

The specs on this laptop are great and they'll be more than enough for any user, whether it'd be gaming or professional editing. Considering this is a low-powered thin & light chassis (low TDP), it's not worth getting the 3080 model, in fact the 3060 will be more than enough for most people. The design is pretty sleek and the laptop looks and feels way more premium than in pictures or than similar gaming laptops that favor portability. Battery life is absolutely amazing when using Asus' power management profiles. The only real con or complaint I have is that one 8GB is soldered to the board, meaning dual-channel support and upgradeability ends at 16GB. Expensive, but very much worth the price and a great deal considering what you're getting.

Early review since I just received it. This might help for those wondering about the hardware internals. First surprise was that it does have multi colored lighting for the keyboard though with only a single zone. I had original thought it was just a single white light like my previous Zephyrus 14 was. The lighting show through the keyboard much better than the all white one did. Unfortunately, it does come with 8GB soldered leaving just one module that can be upgraded. However, 16GB is plenty for gaming use. If you are into lots of Chrome tabs being open and other heaving ran intensive tasks then this might not be for you. Yes you can upgrade the single slot and max this out to 40GB but losing dual channel support for most of it might not be worth the performance hit that it would take. Other than that, early impressions are very much positive.

Great balance between performance, portability and battery life. Beautiful QHD display. Played Shadow of Tomb Raider on max settings 1440p without ray tracing 60+ fps. Unfortunately I received a defective device. Mine had a noticeably darker dim light on the bottom right corner. See picture. Overall a great laptop. Highly recommend.

So far after having for a few weeks i have no major complaints other than when playing games the laptop gets really hot, up to high 80s' and almost 90. I managed to fixed the issues and its now at high 60s' mid 70s' which is quite the improvement. It runs games smoothly so far and maybe ive had a few issues with the ROG armoury crate and Nvidia experience application but i suppose its not a deal breaker. Overall, this laptop fulfills what i wanted and i am satisfied, there are probably many better laptops than this but for my budget and the specs i got id say it was a good purchase.

The laptop is a plastic shell with a internal metal frame. The plastic is pretty nice feeling. The speakers seam pretty good. I have no complaints. The screen is great. Finally a 1440p laptop. In my opinion FHD is to low and 4K is to high because it drains the battery and at this screen size it doesn't make much difference. Fans: Fan noise can be loud under turbo and full load but in performance and silent I found them to be fairly quiet. An interesting note. In a CPU only load with the screen on the fans ran flat out, but when the screen turned off (Yes hibernation disabled) the fans ramped down and became silent with no performance lost. I think this is the laptop being prepped for more load vs when it anticipates a sustain load. So letting it run something over night is not a noisy affair. A note about the Fan modes: In quiet and performance in CPU only loads the CPU will have a TDP of 45Watts but in Turbo the CPU is peddle to the metal at 60+ Watts. This is thermal limited so if there isn't enough airflow you will see lower power limits. In all modes the cooling is split between the GPU and CPU in a combined load such as gaming. Ports: This is another key feature about the Zephyrus G15: 4 Gen2 USB3 ports. 2x C and 2x A. I'm also very happy it has a LAN port. The HDMI is apparently connected to the integrated GPU and the USB/Display ports the the Nvidia one. I heard this in one review but have not been able to verify myself yet. Power Draw (At the Wall): This is a key feature for me. My desktop draws about 80Watts at the wall, plus 20 watts for the monitor. The Zephyrus draws around 20watts with the screen on and ~5-10Watts idling screen off. The full load while in 3dMark Time Spy Stress Test was 130 Watts. This was in Turbo performance mode. So some thoughts be for is how off some performance numbers: Is this 4K gaming capable Native Res. Yes and NO, but mostly no. With all things depends and the games you want to play and at what settings. DLSS will allow this laptop to run games at higher resolutions. For the older games I plan to play with this laptop 4K will be a non-issue. I will say this is a 2K / 1440p power house but one caveat, Real Time ray tracing takes a hug performance hit, so depending on the game it may not play at the FPS you want. Interestingly if you are running a GTX1070 the RTX3070 mobile is about 1.8x the performance. See pictures for Performance tests.

Laptop is great and is definitely worth the price you pay for when you buy it. Lots of performance at youe finger tips, only wish I had the extra cash to go for the 3080 model haha but even with the 3070 it still gives me max settings and high FPS on all my games. The laptop is near perfect for the price to performance. -Screen: The screen is gorgeous with all its colors ans high refresh rate. -Build: Since this is a metal construction throughout most of the laptop, it feels extremely well built and will definitely last you a long time before you start feeling a lot of the wear and teae you normally get from plastic builds. -Thermals: Not going into the tchnicals about cooling (especially since there are videos out there) but it's really well done and the laptop doesn't overheat and thermal throttle any of the components. -Trackpad: Very large and smooth trackdap allows for easy use when not using an external mouse. -Good port selections: 2 USB and 2 Type-C. The Type-C accept Power Delivery so if you have a good USB charger you can charge this laptop on the go (not when gaming). -Battery life: it's a gaming laptop, dont expect a 12 hour battery lol My only problem I have with the laptop is the keycaps (mainly the WASD keys) are fading away with only a couple months of use... After almost paying $2000 (after taxes) I expected the wear and tear to appear after at least 1 solid year. I'll be attaching a picture of the keycaps. Apparently this is common for these laptops... sucks but what can you do. Other than that I still do recommend this laptop especially for what you get for a sub $2000 well built laptop.

I really think this laptop is the most well rounded laptop. It has long battery life. There are many built in conveniences both hardware-wise and software-wise. Most importantly it is a good value for the price. I would recommend this laptop to someone who doesn't have a console and is looking for an all in one gaming/work portable system. When it comes to the battery life, I believe it requires a bit of tweaking, but you can get up to 9 hours of streaming videos, web browsing, and productivity tasks. I set my Armory Crate (included software) to Silent and set Windows to battery saver mode. Then, I got 9 hours of battery life with rgb set to blue (255), green (255), and Red (0) to low and the brightness to like 50%~. So ya, I would say kudos to battery life. As to hardware, I know a lot of people complain about no webcam. However, there is built-in software for that. In the included MyAsus app there is a Shared Cam app, you connect your phone and then it becomes your webcam. I mean my phone has a 1080p camera opposed to most 720p cameras included in most laptops and I am pretty sure a vast majority of people's phone's cameras are at least as good as mine if not better . . . I used it on zoom and discord no problem (but you need good internet connection . . . The greatest hardware advantages are that it has a huge trackpad and it has a fingerprint reader. The trackpad can be programmed with "advanced gestures" to pause/play, play next/previous songs. I swipe four fingers to skip or go back a track, I tap four fingers to pause. I have all the multimedia control I need. The fingerprint reader is so convenient. Out in public with a mask I could unlock with windows hello via my finger upon boot. Ya, I am lazy. The internal specs allow you to play any game out there today at 1440p 60fps ggez. I am not a digital art creative type so I cannot speak to the rendering times etc. The software I touched upon. There is single zone rgb control and the color hue is unique its really vibrant. Uh, the battery can be limited to charge to 60%, 80% or 100% via the MyAsus App. The BIOS updates itself no need for a flashdrive. Auto updates are simple and convenient. Uh, there are five power modes Windows, Silent, Performance, Turbo, and Manual. There are tons of controls in the Armory Crate to customize this laptop to your hearts content. You get both AMD and Nvidia with this so its cool to have stuff like freesync and Gsync. The built in monitor will be using gsync no MUX, but the dGPU can be shut off completely on battery mode automatically to get that long battery life~. Sorry for rambling because software-wise there is a ton and I am quite scatter brain thinking about it, but you don't have to tweak anything, out of the box this thing runs fine. TL;DR I really think it's a good value laptop on sale especially for like ~$1,550. No other laptop will give you a nice software for your own camera (I only have 1080p and I know at least it does 1080p); convenient software updates; a color accurate, high refresh rate, low response time panel; 9hrs battery; RGB keyboard, big trackpad, fingerprint scanner, nice internal specs, great thermals for the sale price of ~$1600 plus tax. If it were not on sale the ~$1850 is still a pretty good deal. So, in my opinion if you are looking for a good gaming/productivity laptop this is it.

    Bottom Panel Removal Tips

Great notebook for the price and given the current shortage of parts for both Ryzen and nVidia. I made this review specifically for those looking for some help getting the bottom panel off and making your lives easier when you decide to upgrade the RAM and/or M.2's. 1. After you unscrew the 10 outer screws, there are 3 hidden ones under the rubber plugs in the middle of the panel. Carefully take a very small tipped flat head or whatever you have available and pop them out. There is some adhesive on the backside of the caps, make sure it stays on them as it will be needed when re-installing. 2. The second M.2 slot that is open has the screw already pre-screwed in. You will need to do either the rubber band or electrical tape trick to avoid stripping the head as it's extremely tight from the factory and the motherboard has nothing directly underneath it to support any pressure pushed down on it. 3. The 1TB OS drive that is included is an Sk Hynix that is rated at 3500 MB/s Read and 3200 MB/s Write. 4. The pre-installed RAM stick is an 8GB Samsung DIMM. (there is 8GB soldered onto the board totaling 16GB in total)

I would be perfectly comfortable giving this 5 stars, but i have one gripe. The "W, A, S, D" Keys have all broken and fallen apart. Also the paint scratched off them within the first 6 months. Otherwise the machine runs great, and is more than strong enough for every game I have ever thrown at it, with top settings enabled. I'd simply chalk this up to wear and tear.... but I have had 4 gaming laptops so far, and this is the highest quality one.. and the ONLY one to do this. Even my HP keys are all still perfectly intact and readable. And this is a much more high end, expensive machine than that.

I love this laptop! It checks all the boxes when it comes to all around performance, gaming, and productivity! It’s light, looks good, and feels great to use. My only complaint is lack of an oled screen and some speaker issues. But other than that I really can’t complain! 9/10
