Many may think this is a good deal and see this laptop with good specs and a 3080 and think they can game at high or ultra graphics, but they'd be poorly mistaken. Although this does have a 3080 equipped, the cooling system cannot handle any kind of a load for more than 1 minute at a time. Minecraft with raytracing on? Yeah, you'll get thermal throttled down to a 2050. Starcraft II ultra graphics? 2050... How about Fortnite at high graphics? 2050... And it is for this reason why I returned my laptop after 2 weeks of testing different settings. That, and the keyboard layout sucks.

It is normal for the laptop, with the same hardware configuration and regardless of the manufacturer, to generate more heat than normal while under heavy load especially during gaming, WINDOWS Update and antivirus scan. When system resource utilization is high, this will generate more heat than normal and tends to trigger the fan to spin at full-throttle. Please ensure ventilations are free from obstructions in order to have an efficient air flow for better heat dissipation. While gaming, please ensure no resource hungry applications, and services and processes running in the background are running in the background, since this will definitely cause spike to the temperature. The heat or temperature does decreases or normalizes once system resource utilization goes down.

Has done nothing but randomly reboot since I've owned it. Sent in for repair in august/sept. returned same condition. Called back and since they replaced the motherboard theres nothing they will do. Told me to call best buy. No one will help me. Still under factory warranty

I would have purchased the RTX 3060 variant and saved a lot of money, matched-gained performance. There are other manufactures with the 3060 that hit harder than the Zephyrus 3070/3080 and you need to understand why. Wattage! Because of the Zephyrus slimmer design, it is limited/restricted to 80w and there is no way around it. Unless you want to download a different BIOS like the one Strix uses at 110W. But why deal with that headache? Why own a Ferrari that is governed to 40mph? All benchmarks that I ran placed the Nvidia graphics card in the lower 20% range in comparison to other units running that same graphics card: 80% of that graphics card, just gone. Let that sink in. No amount of overclocking configuration you attempt to make, will make a difference. Lack of GPU performance aside, it is still a decent laptop. Even though I wouldn't purchase it twice nor would I recommend it to others (as a gaming laptop). It has proven to be a great daily driver and workstation. Benchmarks as high as 112% with stock hardware + overclocking as a workstation in complete configuration. This laptop will take majority of the common users where they need to go (as a regular laptop). With one memory stick soldered you are only eligible for 16G of dual channel. Recommended go no higher than 32G total, with some who agree no higher than 24G. With only 16G of it being dual, the rest will be single channel and at 1440p you really aren't going to see a difference (game performance). 1440p is a nice medium and at 165hz it is hard to complain about. Depending on the game you can reach/dip around 165hz like in COD Vanguard (thanks only to AMD). Warzone is 80 - 120fps. Each game is different. All though it works, and games are play-able, and it looks nice, if you're competitive and want the most FPS and bang for buck, this laptop isn't for you. That 80% of your GPU that is paralyzed will severely hinder your performance and you are not going to utilize the 165hz that is advertised because of it when gaming. I've abused this laptop and have ran it for HOURS upon hours, and it keeps on giving. Makes it really hard to knock and fault this laptop. Cause it really is decent for what it is. It is the price tag that doesn't make sense. So, if money or mid - leading gaming performance doesn't matter this really is a slim, very nice quality build, with great picture, daily driver, from on the go to sitting on a desktop. Truly is a "Jack of all trades, master of none". From gaming - programming - web browsing - multi tasking - design... You name it. I just wouldn't call it primarily a "gaming" laptop and recommend it as one.
