I love Asus products. They have never let me down. I have quite a few and am glad I was able to add this to my collection. This laptop is the absolute perfect size for me. I have owned some that were too big or too small but this I feel is perfect.
I was quite impressed with the packaging. This is the first time I’ve ever opened a box and the laptop was pushed up for easy removal. Very neat. Asus did a great job presenting the laptop with the packaging. They also kept it simple. Laptop and charger and not a lot of junk. Great job Asus.
The laptop is absolutely beautiful and feels very high quality. I love the look of the outside and when you open it up you are presented with an equally aesthetically pleasing and quality design. The keyboard is perfect and the keys are very comfortable to type on. This makes for a very nice experience when typing is your main focus. I also find it easy to use the keyboard to game on. The trackpad is nice and responsive but I don’t use it much as I purchased a wireless gaming mouse to use with it.
The setup was simple. Windows 11 makes it a very easy step by step process that anyone can follow. I also used armory crate, the built in Asus system management software, to update drivers and setup profiles for the machine on the initial setup. I was able to go to the Asus website and pull down the latest BIOS update and updated without issue. The windows updates took a little while but they pretty much run un noticed in the background. Overall, the setup was quick and easy and I was ready to install my favorite FPS games in no time.
I installed Fortnite and Call of Duty Warzone to test out the system performance. They both did excellent and this is partly because the Nvidia 3060 GPU supports DLSS. DLSS greatly increased my framerates at higher quality settings on both games. Both games ran like a champ and looked great on the beautiful screen. The one thing that I didn’t like and the reason for the 1 docked star, is the fans are very loud and it is next to impossible to play any game without them spinning up full blast. Its definitely not something you can do in a quiet environment as it sounds like a jet engine spinning up for takeoff. I get it, it’s a small portable, and very powerful machine which needs adequate cooling, its just loud.
I am glad it comes with another M.2 slot for hard drive expansion. This is definitely something I will be looking in to because the primary hard drive is not that big and these modern games are getting larger and larger in size. I will also explore memory upgrade options as well.
Overall, this is a great system at a fair price for the hardware inside. It can handle the most modern games without issue and is a great portable gaming machine. I would highly recommend it.

Pro's: it handles a majority of modern games with ease during "performance mode" but when its set to "turbo" mode virtually every game I play gets 120-200fps, with a 165hz monitor its extra nice. Keyboard is crisp and the layout is nice, the mouse touchpad is very accurate and responsive, the speakers are good, the camera is decent, and the processor makes everything load relatively fast and seamless. The RAM is upgradable to 32gb I believe, and the SSD can be upgraded as well
Cons:
The fans are loud, like an airplane preparing for takeoff. The laptop runs hot and needs to be raised to allow for better airflow if playing demanding PC games. The battery life is mediocre, lasting 3-4.5 hours with normal use and about 1-1.5 hours while gaming. There is also no nvidia G-sync for some reason

Super fast and powerful notebook PC.

This notebook is a beast! It is lighting fast and handles all of my Steam games with zero issues.
The first thing it does out of the box when you power up is enter the startup mode. This is common for all PCs I have had. The only frustrating thing is how much Microsoft sells you on their products. From Xbox live subscriptions to Office 365. And don't try to install Google Chrome...it does not like that! I eventually got it configured to how I like it.
At first it had a little lag, I assume it was due to everything being new and fresh. It went away after the first day or two. I then threw everything I could at it. I browsed, created a PP preso after installing Office, then installed Steam. I downloaded a few games to give it a good test run. All of the games booted up quickly and I was playing within a few minutes after downloading. I first played GTA V and it was so good. No lag, no video issues, I had the settings set to the auto max settings. I played for longer than I should have given I was simply testing the capabilities.
There are a few issues. The touchpad is very large and can become an issue when you are doing things like typing a paper or creating a Power Point presentation. I know this is primarily a gaming laptop, but a lot of people might want to take this to college since it has a powerful graphics card. The other issue is the exterior build quality. I do not have a lot of confidence it it's integrity. The soft plastic scratches very easily. My lid scratched after only being used and handled for like 5 minutes. And since it is black, you can see it very easily. Maybe I will have to find some cool stickers to throw on it or something.
Overall, I do feel that this notebook PC is super fast and performs excellent. From the i7 processor to the RTX card, you can literally feel the power as you use it. It also performs very quietly, I forgot to mention that earlier. But I can easily say that this is the fastest PC I have ever owned and I do highly recommend it.

Disappointment

I’ve owned this computer since September of 2022 and don’t have many complaints. I researched and watched countless videos and knew to expect that the computer gets hot easily and the fans can be extremely loud but besides that I liked it. The computer has amazing graphics and makes playing games amazing BUT for some reason my backspace button keeps refusing to work…I don’t use the computer often as I work a lot and only game occasionally (the main game being sims or planet zoo/coaster). So I don’t understand how the button is having issues when I rarely use it and the games I play don’t require me to spam the button. Also the little strip on the top of the computer came off because it got hot (even with the fans on full blast) and came off. I’ll attach a photo for reference. So after spending $1800 I’m alittle disappointed.

ASUS Strikes Again: Incredible Performance & Value

I've been using the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G15 for the past year as my primary gaming laptop and my go-to machine for photo editing while on the go. The G15 hits an excellent balance of performance, design, and portability, and I was excited to see ASUS bring these same qualities to this new M16 model at a more affordable price with some much-needed upgrades. The performance of this 2022 M16 model is greater than the more expensive 2021 G15 model in many ways, and includes some excellent additions like a Windows Hello-enabled webcam, Wi-Fi 6E, and a beautiful 16:10 display.
=== DESIGN ===
- This M16 is only available in an "Off-Black" color. The color maintains a sleek, professional look allowing you to use the laptop in any setting without attracting too much attention. Compared to the G15, the black of the M16 is slightly darker. The holographic microdots on the laptop's lid add just enough flare so as to not be over-the-top.
- The dimensions of the M16 are identical to the G15. The laptop measures 14" wide by 9.6" deep, and less than 1" thick. At just over 4 pounds, it is very portable and should fit in most backpacks and travel bags.
- There are a decent amount of ports available, though more would be nice. On the left, there's the power port, an HDMI port, an Ethernet port, one USB Type-A port, two USB Type-C ports, and a headphone jack. On the right, there's one USB Type-A port, a microSD card slot, and a Kensington lock slot.
- Like other ASUS gaming laptops, the power port on the left side is oddly placed right in the center of the laptop rather than towards the back. As a result, the power cord runs along the length of the laptop, which looks awkward and sometimes covers the left exhaust vent. I was hoping ASUS would rethink this placement for this year's M16 models.
- The power brick is surprisingly compact for a gaming laptop. You will need it for the laptop to run at full power, but the machine can also be charged via USB-C with any 100w adapter. Note that the CPU and GPU will not run at full speed when the laptop is being powered via USB-C.
- Build quality is excellent, with minimal flex and no squeaking. Most of the machine is a soft-touch plastic, which is great for keeping weight to a minimum. The hinge is very smooth and can be lifted with one hand. As you raise the display, the base of the laptop begins to raise at a slight angle to improve airflow. I haven't noticed any significant wobble with the display raised.
- Overall: The Off-Black color is great and I appreciate the understated yet modern design of the laptop. The power port positioning is an awkward choice, and I wish there were a couple of additional USB-C ports especially on the right side. Build quality seems top-notch and I'm confident it will last a long time.
=== DISPLAY, KEYBOARD, TRACKPAD, & AUDIO ===
- When I first saw this machine's specs, I was skeptical of the slightly lower screen resolution compared to the more expensive configuration. But having used the M16 for a couple of weeks now, I'm completely sold. The 1920x1200 display is stunning and the 16:10 aspect ratio is perfect in a laptop of this size. The extra vertical space of the 16:10 ratio is invaluable when you use the laptop for web browsing or productivity. Pixel density is excellent, and colors are rich and vibrant. The 1920x1200 resolution is perfect for the RTX 3060 GPU -- any higher resolution would sacrifice gaming performance for negligible display improvements. There is a small amount of light bleed along the bottom left corner of my display, but it's hardly noticeable except on black loading screens. The 165Hz refresh rate means that games look incredibly smooth with no tearing or choppiness.
- The keyboard is very spacious and comfortable. It has a nice amount of travel and it takes a satisfying amount of force to depress the keys. It has just the right amount of "clickiness" that you would expect in a gaming keyboard. The keyboard is RGB-lit, though the entire keyboard can only display one color at a time (there are not multiple RGB zones to control). The RGB brightness is sufficient, though I've certainly seen brighter RGB keyboards.
- The trackpad is a joy to use. It is very large, soft, and easy to click. It works perfectly with gestures and is extremely responsive.
- The speakers on the M16 are excellent. These are not the tinny, low-quality speakers you will find in budget laptops. Mids and highs are well balanced with a nice amount of "oomph" in the lows. The included Dolby Access app provides some pretty good preset audio profiles as well as an equalizer for custom settings.
- Overall: ASUS took the already-excellent display aspects of the M15 and found a way to add a larger screen with a better aspect ratio. At this price point, a 1920x1200 display is perfect and in some ways preferred to a higher resolution. The keyboard, trackpad, and speakers also live up to the hype.
=== PERFORMANCE, COOLING, & UPGRADES ===
- The RTX 3060 in this machine is very capable. It is only a small step down from the 3070 offered in the 2021 G15. The slightly lower screen resolution of this M16 configuration means that the 3060 can deliver similar gaming performance.
- Time Spy benchmark: 9016 (graphics score 8558). Cyberpunk 2077 (Ray Tracing Medium, DLSS Balanced): 75 fps average. Guardians of the Galaxy (High preset, Ray Tracing High): 95 fps. Halo Infinite (High preset): 65 fps average. These numbers show that the M16 can handle very demanding games even with higher settings. Performance obviously improves at lower presets, but the 3060 in this machine is certainly no slouch.
- The Intel i7-12700H is just as impressive. The TimeSpy CPU score is 12,943, which is almost 60% higher than the AMD Ryzen 9 5900HS in last year's G15 (TimeSpy CPU score of 8198).
- Gaming performance will depend greatly on the settings you choose in the ASUS Armoury Crate program. There are presets for Silent, Performance, and Turbo. "Turbo" gives you the best performance and cooling, but the fans get obnoxiously loud if you're not wearing headphones. "Performance" is a good middle-ground with less fan noise, but you will sacrifice a bit of CPU and GPU power (the clock speeds of the GPU will not boost as high as quickly). You will have to spend some time in this program to tweak the performance settings to your liking.
- The laptop stays fairly cool, but that definitely comes at a cost of loud fans during gameplay. You will most certainly want to wear headphones while gaming unless you have a high tolerance for fan noise. On Turbo mode, most games push the GPU temp to about 80°C, and the CPU to roughly 75°C. Luckily, the fans are hardly noticeable when using the laptop for routine work and web browsing.
- Battery life is very good, lasting over 8 hours with standard web browsing and day-to-day tasks (screen at half brightness). Obviously, gaming is going to result in much shorter battery life.
- The included SSD is only 512GB, which is borderline unacceptable in a premium gaming laptop these days. Luckily, there is an extra M.2 NVMe slot to add an additional SSD for more storage.
- 8GB of DDR5 RAM are soldered onto the board, with another 8GB SODIMM in the memory slot. The RAM clock speed is 4800MHz. According to ASUS, you can swap out the 8GB stick for a 32GB stick, allowing for a maximum of 40GB of RAM.
- Overall: Performance is great and the RTX 3060 pairs perfectly with the 1920x1200 display. Cooling is good, but it comes at the cost of loud fans that will have to be closely monitored through the ASUS software.
=== SOFTWARE AND OTHER THOUGHTS ===
- ASUS has added a 720p webcam on the bezel above the screen. The camera quality is mediocre, but it is Windows Hello capable so you can log into Windows with just your face. Finally, no more crummy fingerprint readers!
- The included Wi-Fi card is capable of Wi-Fi 6E, allowing the M16 to connect to very fast 6Ghz networks. I've run several speed tests while connected to the 6Ghz band of my ASUS GT-AXE6000. Amazingly, I can nearly max out my Internet speed of 940mbps (download and upload) with the Wi-Fi 6E card in this laptop. I'm very glad ASUS decided to future-proof the M16 by including Wi-Fi 6E capability.
- The ASUS Armoury Crate and MyASUS apps are essential for tweaking the performance and cooling of this laptop and performing updates, but both apps are very clunky and confusing to use. Luckily there is a button above the keyboard that you can use to switch between your cooling/performance presets.
=== OVERALL ===
It seems like every year, ASUS introduces new laptops that achieve greater performance for an even greater value. This ROG Zephyrus M16 is no exception. There are certainly more powerful laptops on the market, but the performance gains become rather negligible for most gamers above this price point. Paired with the beautiful 16:10, 1920x1200 display, the RTX 3060 in this laptop offers impressive performance that will satisfy gamers looking for a portable gaming rig. The Intel i7-12700H is even more impressive and is the most powerful CPU I've ever used in a laptop. ASUS has future-proofed the M16 with the inclusion of a Windows Hello camera and Wi-Fi 6E, though I wish they would have included a larger SSD. Regardless, this machine is perfect for all but the most hardcore of gamers. Highly recommended!

I have been using this gaming laptop for a little over a week now and can tell you that It definitely has the quality and accessibility I have been looking for. I game pretty frequently but have always been one to use my desktop when gaming in the past until now. I would say that this laptop checks all (or at least most) of the boxes needed for the games that I am wanting to play recently. 16 GB ram and 512 gig of storage is more than enough needed to get any game up and running. The graphics card that comes with the laptop is sufficient as well. From an accessibility standpoint the laptop is very comfortable, the keys are comfortable on my fingers and the track pad seems very responsive. Again, very suitable for most gamers. The laptop does run a tad warm at times but that can be expected when all specs are running near capacity. Its light weight as well and doesnt seem to be cheaply made, I feel it could withstand a bump here or there compared to other similar laptops that are made cheaply on the exterior.
All in all if you are looking for a laptop that can perform right with the best in the market I would recommend unit as its specs are very competitive and the bright display is very easy on the eyes.

I love this computer so much. It’s light, has a fan key so I can turn up or down my fan. I usually leave it on turbo while gaming and balanced while watching videos. It does get hot so I have a laptop lap pad thing. Great gaming computer good specs. Absolutely love the display on this computer. It looks amazing and the casing is very cute with the colors on the back. Only complaint is that’s it’s a half keyboard and the keys are a bit big so that was a bit of getting use to.

Bought my M16 (i7-12700H, 16GB RAM, 1920x1200) Open Box "excellent" 10 days ago. It was insanely cheap at $800, so I took a chance at a used (or store model) ASUS.
Given the reviews and known QC issues for almost entire ASUS portfolio, this was a gamble.
Well looks like it paid off. The laptop came in pristine condition. I think this was either a late store model or somene bought it and returned it recently.
Only negative: BestBuy website lists this model's resolution as 2560x1600, I was bummed to see 1920x1200. Almost returned, glad I did not.
A few points to help a fellow potential M16er:
- No fan coil whine
- Runs perfectly cool for daily tasks
- Fans are silent during daily tasks, they kick in when in turbo mode. Very effective too, temps go down instantly.
- Expansion friendly: There is a user upgradeable DDR5 RAM slot (8GB is soldered on, 8 is in on this slot) and a second open SSD slot
- Speakers are really, really good. Almost matches my XPS 13 Plus.
- Screen is bright enough out doors. I love that it is MATTE! So much better for productivity.
Have been using this machine exclusively plugged in, can't comment on battery life, but I am not expecting miracles on that front.
Disclaimer: I am not a gamer - I just needed a portable powerhouse to complement my under powered ultrabook.

Great value for a gaming/photo editing computer. Able to easily add a little extra memory and storage space with a simple Phillips screwdriver. This computer has greatly increased my workflow over the m1 Mac mini I replaced. The load speeds are great and what used to take 40 seconds per file to render now takes about 8 (I use 42+mb files) The fan can get a little noisy during gaming and it does give off a little heat bit no more than expected. The 16in screen gives plenty of space to view and edit my files and the colors and resolution are good for me. I've only done some gaming on it I'm happy with the performance so far. Battery life is low as to be expected with this type of laptop but I really need to have it unplugged for more than a few hours. I find it to be fairly portable for what it is, but I do find the charging block to be pretty big. Wish I would have picked this up sooner as I am impressed overall.

I was looking for a gaming laptop and something capable of editing videos and running Nuke. I waited for the 40 series to release but with the price hike and the tested difference being low i decided to go with the 30 series. Love it! Had it for 4 months now and love using it every single time. I get around 155 fps on apex which is fine for me. Screen is only 165. So almost full usuage. I have several games and no issues with playing them. I even used the micro sd card slot as extra storage to save games. Load times are great. Gta, apex, doom, jurassic park evolution 2, street fighter 6, nba 2k23, borderlands 3 all play great. Screen is bright 500 plus nits. Storage is low but expandable. If youre looking for a capable laptop for gaming and production. This is it. No heat issues. Back raises. I have on desk so no issue. Has mux.

Screen Brightness is good. Screen also hurts eyes. Good speed can expand Ram to 40 using a single ddr5 32gb stick. It can run hot and loud under pressure. if doing minimal tasks that are not gaming it doesnt get hot or loud. Maybe when first updating everything. Can easily configure how you want fans to be controlled under Armory Asus App. I opt to have them turn on and lower heat levels so that it stays cooler more consistently. There are some complaints with keyboard lighting flashing in sleep mode. This is user oversight as there is a setting in the Armory App to disable.

This review is for i7-12700h/RTX3060 version. I love this laptop! I’ve owned many productivity laptops but this is my first gaming laptop. Screen gets very bright and the colors are vibrant. I invested a little more to upgrade the RAM to 40 gigs, but 16 is enough for most users. Removing the back cover to upgrade RAM/SSD is very easy. Both pats mentioned are also easy to get to. The keyboard feels good to type on. One thing I really like is the touchpad. It’s very responsive and just feels good to use. Battery life is about 1 to 1 1/2 hours when gaming but for best performance keep it plugged in. I bought this on sale for $1100 and it’s been worth every penny. I’ve had it for about two months.

I received ASUS - ROG Zephyrus 16" WUXGA 165Hz Gaming Laptop - Intel Core i7 - 16GB DDR5 Memory - NVIDIA RTX 3060 - 512GB PCIe 4.0 SSD - Off Black
Setup and all the updates with Windows took about 1 to 2 hours total. Going through the setup was pretty straightforward. Follow the prompts and you are all set. Windows 11 straight out of the box... Yeah... No waiting for Microsoft etc.. thank you.
Ran SiSoftware to benchmark the PC. Benchmark came back showing that the PC met the specs as advertised.
Color is nice... Unit easy to hold. Balanced weight. Opening up the screen fully pushes the laptop up so it can ventilate. Great design same as last model. No need to get a stand.
Transfer speeds of USB WITH Huge files WAS flawless AND FAST.
HDMI plug and play was easy. No problems. Image was nice and crisp. Viewing angle was full viewing. No black outs like last model. Great improvement.
On board camera and mic and speakers were good for video calling and online gaming.
Comes with Dolby Atmos..... Not a trial. So straight up full Atmos sound. NICE! Love it.
On board ROG options are nice. Easy to customize. Keyboard lighting is cool and customizable.
Asus even improved the mouse issue I had last year. Great listening. I did not have the accidental mouse moves like the last year's model.
Battery life is still okay with full on gaming it lasted full throttle for 4/5 hours straight for me.
Rainbow 6 Siege my go to was really good. No lag. Both wifi and hardwired LAN. Video and gameplay was beautiful. Crisp. Sharp. Colorful. No lag.
Wifi and hardwired with my Gig service gave me full speeds no problems.
I would recommend this product for hardcore gamers that want the most out of gaming and blast away your opponents.

Very good specs for the price (got it when Best Buy had it on sale). 12700H, 16GB DDR5, RTX 3060. The screen is really good. The fans get pretty loud when gaming, but it does keep the temps reasonable, haven't noticed any thermal throttling. Would have liked to have a 1TB drive, but it does have a 2nd NVME slot, so I added a 1TB drive there. Gaming performance is pretty good, haven't had a chance to try too many games yet, but WoW, Tiny Tina's Wonderland, Diablo 3 all play well with good framerates at 1920x1200. I also really like the design of the chassis, the rainbow hologram thing built into the top of the lid looks really cool.

Beast of a gaming rig that looks professional

Glad I picked this one up, what a beast!
The ASUS ROG Zephyrus M16 with 16gb DDR5 and an RTX3060 GPU is a high end rig, no doubt. Everything about this unit feels and looks high quality. The black matte is a classy finish while the matrix and subtle colors on the lid of the screen look professional and not too "gamer-ish". I'm in my 30s and don't need RGB or crazy edgy logos everywhere, this unit is really toned down on the flashy stuff and focuses on a clean, sharp design.
Performance wise, the M16 has handled everything I've thrown at it, however, I do tend to play older games like X-COM and similar strategy games so maybe not as demanding as the latest FPS but the GPU still rips at over 130 fps on max settings. The sound quality from the speakers is full and has plenty of bass. The first time I used the internal speakers I had to double check to be sure it didn't connect to my sounds bar accidentally as the sound quality was that good.
The ASUS Armory Crate is awesome as well. Instantly find your temperatures and system load as well as adjust fans, RGB, even enabling or disabling the boot up sound. Really awesome software.
The only thing that I can think of that is not a positive is the heat. This unit gets hot, which is totally understandable. The turbo setting for the fans will dissipate the heat pretty well but they're quite loud. Again, understandable given the power in this sleek beast of a gaming rig, just worth noting if you're planning on gaming near a sleeping partner or something. I've invested in a (hopefully) high powered fan unit to sit my laptop on so we'll see how that pans out, I'll be able to test that out later today.
Overall, I'm beyond happy with the Zephyrus M16. The power, capability and design all come together for an "adult" looking computer that is even more impressive once you boot it up, which takes about 6 seconds total. There isn't much bloatware to deal with and the packaging itself is also high quality with a popup function that lifts your unit up for easy unboxing. Seriously, the quality level even starts at the unboxing. I can't speak highly enough about the M16. If you can snag it on sale for around $1000 then it actually feels like a bit of a steal, even the Best Buy employee was surprised that this particular unit was on such a sale. This unit actually beats my friend's gaming desktop in certain benchmarks. I've never been disappointed with ASUS products and this rig just keeps that quality going.
If you can swing the price you'll be getting a beast of a unit that would look great anywhere, from on your desk to hanging in an airport. You won't be disappointed.

I love this laptop. I scored this beast on an open box deal for under 1000. The ASUS software is above the rest. I love being able to game and use the laptop as an everyday machine. The Intel 12 gen processor is unmatched in power. The Nivida 3060 kicks in cutting through games like butter. The feel of the laptop is premium. Light weight but durable. The keyboard is something you have to try, lots of key travel. Making for a satisfying experience. lastly, the display is beautiful. The 16:10 viewing angle gives you an awesome game time. I would recommend this laptop even at full price.

Great performance for the value. RTX 3060, PCIe 4.0 storage, 16GB of ram. Can be charged using a 45W USB-C charger but use the original power adapter for full performance mode. When on battery mode laptop runs in what I like to call efficiency mode where it does not activate the RTX GPU and relies on the integrated graphics from the CPU. Great as a work machine or for the gamer in your life. Please note that this is only a 1080p display but if you connect a 4K monitor to it you can game in 4K

I love this laptop. It is very fast without all the bloat ware. The only negative s battery life. If the battery lasted longer I would have given it 5 stars. If battery life doesn’t mean a lot to you then I would recommend this laptop.
