Customers appreciate the ROG Zephyrus 16" gaming laptop's strong performance, impressive graphics capabilities, and vibrant display. Positive feedback also highlights its lightweight design and robust build quality. However, some users note that the fan noise can be noticeable, and the device may experience elevated temperatures during intensive use; battery life is also a point of concern for some.

I've only had it approx. 2 weeks, but so far my initial impressions are very positive. This laptop hit on all the key features I was looking for in a mixed-use work/play travel companion. Overall quality build seems excellent, keyboard feel, screen size, speed & brightness, discrete graphics, powerful CPU, expandability of RAM and storage (Of which I already did add an 1TB M.2), weight and choice of ports were my key features.

I love this laptop. It is very fast without all the bloat ware. The only negative s battery life. If the battery lasted longer I would have given it 5 stars. If battery life doesn’t mean a lot to you then I would recommend this laptop.

I am running into some issues with wifi, where coming out of sleep state, it will refuse to connect to internet. It will connect just fine to the network, but then it'll say that there is no internet connection. Aside from that, the battery life, display, and graphics are great. It does get a little toasty while gaming, especially when the game is GPU and CPU heavy. It has been a great laptop for the money.

Third asus laptop, first had the strix with a 1660, a tuf with a 3060, but dd4 16gb ram, and now this has 16gb but with ddr5, I’m going to upgrade the ram soon to 40 but this laptop is phenomenal. It performs remarkably well, and I have a desktop with a 3090 and an i9-10850k with 64gb of ram, and I love this laptop. It’s super slim, very sleek looking , almost like a sleeper build looking laptop, and I love it.

This laptop looks great and feels great and is equipped with a lot of high end hardware such as the i7 Intel core and the Nvidia GeForce 3060, you can almost play any game and VR on this laptop and I hooked it to a 28” Asus TUF Gaming external monitor and it’s a great gaming experience, outstandingly fast, no performance issues and the sleek design of the laptop itself is really nice

Amazing Desktop Gaming Performance in a Laptop
|
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
The ASUS Republic Of Gaming, Zephyrus Laptop is a very impressive performer. I built a custom desktop gaming computer last year and I have to say this laptop blows it away!
Setup and Configuration
The Zephy comes packed in a stylish black box. Opening the lid of the box raises the laptop up at an angle, showing the beautiful black casing with an artistic perforation pattern. Windows 11 Home edition comes pre-installed. The initial setup, installation of updates, and configuration with my Microsoft account went smoothly. The ASUS updates included BIOS updates for the hardware. The OS comes with the standard Microsoft applications and ASUS utility applications. There was no need for uninstalling a lot of unwanted third-party programs.
Since there are two graphics processors, an Intel Iris Xe internal and the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060, as a default the Zephy uses the Intel graphics driver for the main screen. I used the Nvidia Control Panel and selected the GeForce driver to be the default. The 16.1” display is beautifully crisp and bright with a 2560x1600 pixel, 188 PPI resolution.
Hardware
The lid is a flat black metal aluminum texture with thousands of tiny perforations. Depending on the angle of reflective light, a rainbow pattern can be seen through the perforations. The base is also a flat black aluminum with a nice solid feel. A hard rubber support extends across the rear and another extends across the front of the base, providing enough space for air ventilation and sound from the bottom facing stereo speakers. The back of the laptop has large vents for fan ventilation. There’s a row of vents on the left and right sides of the keyboard for ventilation and possibly for sound. When the lid is raised, the base helps to lift the rear of the laptop and provides additional spacing between the laptop and the screen. The top of the base has a nice texture feel. The keyboard keys are smooth topped, evenly spaced, backlit, decent throw depth, pressure, and are very quiet. The touch pad is smooth to the touch, wide enough for comfortable use, and supports both left and right clicking.
Armory Crate Software
Includes Aura Wallpaper.
The Zephy comes with the ASUS Armory Crate software, which provides the ability to configure the computer's performance, fine-tune the responsiveness of the graphics, keyboard macros, configure the keyboard backlighting, wallpaper and monitor the performance of the hardware. It also scans for installed games and has configurable profiles for each game. Armory Crate is convenient to have open for monitoring performance while gaming.
Gaming
My primary games are Microsoft's Flight Simulator and Eve Echoes on the BlueStacks Android emulator. Both of these are graphics intensive and can work the GPU. With Flight Simulator, I can maintain a consistent 50-60 frames per second with high-quality graphics. The fans come on at a low rpm, and the computer stays cool. I cranked up the graphics quality in Flight Simulator and did a flight From Everett, Washington to Port Angeles. At 4000 feet, I was able to see individual trees and details on the ground with no discernible jumpiness or lag. I’m especially impressed with the smooth and high quality graphics I was able to get with Eve Echoes while running on the Android emulator. I increased the resolution to the maximum available in the game and was still able to enjoy smooth gameplay, which is amazing since I was playing a game in high quality graphics while running on a program that simulates another computer.
My Software
I installed the following software on my Zephyrus:
• Steam
• Microsoft's Flight Simulator 2020
• BlueStacks 5 Android emulator
• Microsoft Office
• Eve Echoes
Hardware Configuration
• Processor: 12th Gen Intel Core i9-12900H @ 2.50 GHz
○ 14 cores

• Graphics: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060, 6GB GDDR6
• Drive: Nvme SSD, 512GB, PCIE 4.0
• Display: 16.1" 2560 x 1600, 16:10, anti-glare, 16Hz 3ms response time
• Keyboard: Standard keyboard with backlighting
• Sound: 2 2W dual-force woofer w/Smart Amp, 2 2W tweeter, Dolby Atmos
• Array Microphone with AI noise-cancelling
• Battery: 90W Hrs, 4-cell Li-ion

UserBenchmark.com Performance Rating
• CPU: 101% Outstanding
• GPU: 89.2% Excellent
• Drive: 292% Outstanding
• Memory: 140% Outstanding
• Gaming: 90% Aircraft Carrier
Summary
Overall, the ASUS ROG Zephyrus Gaming Laptop is absolutely the best performing gaming computer I have ever come across. I am totally amazed at the quality and performance of this computer. I highly recommend this portable performer for any hard core gamer.

Fantastic! Better than last year's model!

I really enjoyed using last year's model of the ASUS ROG with the 3050 Ti. But this newer one is even better in my opinion! Still relatively slim and light compared to other bulky gaming laptops. Clean lines with the "rubberized" feeling keyboard surface and a nice big trackpad. Display is super big, sharp and bright. And the facial recognition when starting it up instead of typing in a password has worked quick and flawlessly for me.
Gaming has been very fast again, and benchmarks and actual gameplay even a little more smooth with great rendering. Excellent for my Solidworks and Draftsight engineering apps as well. Speakers are really loud and rich so no matter what you are doing, it all just works and sounds great.
Battery life has only been through two cycles so far, but for my use I was getting over 7 hours each time which I think is great. Lots of ports again in this years model so very easy to hook up a drive or any other peripheral. Bluetooth has worked fine without bugginess like some computers and the WiFi 6E in this laptop finally allowed me to use that frequency with my 6E router (as fast as my wired connections). Windows 11 is similar enough to Win 10, but some differences that are quick to get used to.
Highly recommended and very happy with this so far!

Another Awesome ASUS

ASUS is my 'go-to' brand when considering home computer options. Especially, gaming PCs. There are, of course, other brands I'm familiar with, and have owned as well, and consider to be just as viable for home computing and gaming. However, ASUS is far and away my favorite, based on my own personal experience with the brand, such as build quality and style, but mostly having to do with overall performance.
That said, this laptop is a thing of beauty! The lid has this diagonal dotted design, with a rainbow of colors discreetly shining thru, if you look at it at just the 'right' angle! I've said this before, it's those "little extra touches" which can make things all that much more sweeter.
On the bottom, there are two rubberized "feet" running nearly all the way across from side to side, with the topmost one being slightly raised up more, thereby causing the laptop to set at a bit of an incline, which is nice and mimics the angle you find when using a wired (or wireless) keyboard. This is a noteworthy difference from the smallish rubbery 'feet' most laptops are known for having.
One thing I didn't like, though some might appreciate this depending on their preference, was how much empty surface area there is on the 'chassis' below the laptop's keyboard. While the smooth texture is nice, matte black and fingerprint resistant, with the trackpad being overly large, if I were to use the laptop's keyboard, I'm certain my wrists would inadvertently brush across or press into the trackpad, and all sorts of "chaos" would ensue. So yeah, to me, that's a downside.
After unboxing, getting a new computer up and running with Windows is becoming a more and more streamlined procedure. But I was hesitant about this laptop by default having Windows 11, when I am quite comfortable with continuing to use Windows 10. Yet once all the updates were installed, and I could navigate around familiarizing myself with all the changes, it wasn't long before I was downloading and installing my favorite games, and enjoying what this ASUS ROG Gaming Laptop has to offer.
With an Intel i7 processor and Nividia 3060 graphics, for the way I like to game, this is quite simply, the good stuff. For fun, I ran the FFXIV Endwalker benchmark test, and this new Zephyrus beat my current ASUS gaming laptop's score, big time. Actual 'in-game' performance was great. My usual MMORPGs ran well on high settings, with no pixelization, lag, stuttering, or noticably awful drop in frame rate to be found, even during graphic intensive fights. Gameplay was smooth and responses precise.
All the usual, and 'necessary' plug-in ports are there. The onboard speakers, found to either side of the laptop's keyboard, are actually not bad. Not bad at all. The level of sound coming from them was more than sufficient for basic video streaming, and for my gaming purposes, ample as well. Half the time I use a gaming headset, anyway, but it's good to know the laptop's speakers are pretty decent as is.
Air exhaust ports funnels the heat you will feel coming from the laptop, away from you, both from the two sides, and along the back at the hinged area under the monitor. The visual display is bright and clear, as it should be. And the 16" size is just right for me. I've no use for the number pad along with the keyboard, though this missing feature might bother some.
The laptop's keyboard is backlit well, and not only that, it's RGB, too! With ASUS's Armoury Crate installed software (make sure to update everything and create an account if you don't have one already), you are able to customize the 'Aura' lighting and color effects, check your laptop's CPU and GPU stats, temp, memory, storage, etc. There's lots there, and it's all good.
One of those 'little touches' I'd mentioned previously, is the unusually shaped power button. This makes me smile every time.
With Zephyrus, ASUS has given us another awesome ROG gaming laptop.

ASUS You've Done It Again! 5 Stars!

As I found myself gaming more frequently on PC when I travel I wanted to try the new i7 with a better graphics card than I was currently using so I was exited to try out the new ROG Zephrus 16" (GU603ZM) with the new Alder Lake i7 processor and NVIDIA RTX3060.
Unboxing: I've said it before and I'll say it again. I'm such a geek when it comes to the unboxing experience, and ASUS does it right! I love how the laptop sits on a section of the box that raises up when you open the lid almost lid - almost like it's presenting itself to you.
Physical Appearance: Not exactly light but lighter than I was expecting and extremely solid - that's the best way to describe it. A battery of presses and squeezes could produce no squeaks or creaks. Very impressive. The composite case material is starting to grow on me - while it's not cheap looking, it doesn't exude premium. On the other hand it does a nice job hiding fingerprints - so there's that. Overall a solid looking PC built very well. Not ultrabook thin, but certainly no one would look at you using this and think - wow that's bulky. The lights on the keyboard are sweet. I love how they light up brightly and you can customize how you want them to appear or the effects they use.
Gaming: Of course I was excited to play a couple of my favorite games of late. I was blown away with how smooth the gameplay was on Madden 22. The FPS was generally 57-60 during plays and everything looked great on the WUXGA display. I was really curious as to whether I'd like the WUXGA display but for gaming it has been fantastic. I'm not sure I'll be busting out any excel spreadsheets on this bad boy as text does look a little blurry if I had to do adulting on this, but again not as bad as I expected. What really impressed me was that the fans are pretty quiet and they were barely kicked in during my hours of gaming. I don't tend to use headphones when I'm gaming because I like to know what's happening around me and I'm oddly particular about fan noise. A+ ASUS.
I did test some basic Office tasks in between gaming sessions and I was surprised by how much I LOVE the trackpad. The size is perfect and it's easily the best Windows trackpad that I've used, maybe ever. Unlike my previous ASUS gaming laptop this does have a webcam so I had initially hoped I could use this for my work tasks as well and I was REALLY excited to see a Thunderbolt 4 port which should mean I could use my LG Ultrafine 5K monitor that only connects via TB4. Unfortunately...
The LG 5K experience was a total bust. I could tell the ASUS was REALLLY trying to connect but it just couldn't. I did every update available, installed the LG software from their site, and spent an hour on ASUS chat support and I was unable to create a workable solution. At on point it did connect for like 60 seconds then it lost connection and just flickers. Huge bummer because I would have loved to mow down some zombies then flip profiles over and earn my paycheck from the same machine, and my workflow involves that monitor.
Benchmarks put this in the 97th percentile compared to other high end gaming laptops so needless to say I am quite pleased with pretty much everything.
I'm still not a ban of barrel power adapters and I would love to see ASUS and other PC manufactures use USB-C for faster charging. It does work with the USB-C port but a message pops up and lets me know that charging this method will be slower and may not keep up with actual use.
Conclusion - If you're looking for a gaming PC that's solid and portable then this is a great option and should be under consideration!

I enjoy using it. Probably the brightest screen ive had on a laptop. Go ahead and spend the extra $40ish to get another 16 gb of ram when you pick it up. The only thing i dont like is that the vents blow hot air onto the bottom of the bezel because of the way it opens.

Upgraded from a 4 year old Alienware m15 1660ti
This laptop is very thin considering the specs.
Build quality seem sturdy.
The screen is nice and bright for a gaming laptop at 500nits. And 1200p
The 3060 6gb performed way better then I anticipated was playing black ops 3 and back4blood multiplayer all settings maxed out getting 100+ fps fans at medium speed.
The ram is very fast and the ddr5 is nice 8gb is soldered on but with ddr5 not to big of a issue.
The laptops batter was great I turned the brightness down to 2 clicks above half (still very bright)and browsing the web was getting 4-5 hours.
Haven’t tested gaming unplugged because it’s never good.
Only issue I had with it was the first laptop I bought the thermal pasting wasn’t spread evenly.
The asus rog amity software only shows the hottest core when I download a third party software I saw some core 66c and some at 96c. Which means uneavean Liquid Metal spread.
Returned and exchanged it out no issues these things happens sometimes.

Display and performance was excellent. Great color and brightness. Performed really well on COD and Destiny 2. Keys feels nice and smooth. LOUD for the fans but kept the GPU and CPU at 65-80C. Short on battery so you'll want it plugged in. But after 6 months of rarely using it, since
I play most on my desktop, volume down key started acting up to the point the whole keyboard died and unusable. Took the laptop to Bestbuy and Bestbuy sent to manufacturer for repair. Manufacturer contacted me after a month and informed me the laptop is unable to be repaired. Bestbuy issued me full refund including sales tax. Good customer service on both Bestbuy and manufacturer but poor quality control on the manufacturer. Getting another ASUS laptop and hope it'll be better than the other one.

Great performance from the RTX 3060 in demanding games but wow does it get hot. The fans do a decent job at cooling this machine and get quite loud.
The display is really nice and I bought this under the assumption this was the nebula display, which it's not. Still a nice display to have with its 16 x 10 aspect ratio. The display does not support HDR.
The footprint of this laptop is similar to my Acer Predator laptop with a 15.6in display and a 16:9 screen.
The weight of the M16 is quite balanced for a thin and light gaming laptop and it's not an issue for the type of machine you are purchasing. Don't expect ultra light like a macbook or lg gram.
Thunderbolt 4 gets two thumbs up from me. Works great with existing docks on thunderbolt 3 and have no issues with current 4 hubs.
A very small con, like tiny, are the indicator lights located in the center top of base of the laptop shining onto the display. The lights are quite bright and can reflect off the surface of the screen causing a halo effect on the bottom of the display.
I do wish battery life was better, during heavy use I get 2.5hrs of AAA gaming. I charger is a brick for sure. Charging times are around 1.5 hours in my case with good 0-50% charge times.
This model does not have a fingerprint scanner.

I ordered this laptop for my Girlfriend, this thing is awesome! The 16:10 display is eye catching, from any angle its great for viewing. The keyboard is very nice and sleek. She says the battery is okay, but what do you expect its a gaming laptop. There's one extra pcie slot for storage expansion which is nice. If you want to upgrade ram you cannot run at dual channel, because there is a stick soldered to the motherboard -_-...... but besides that at $999, you cannot beat this anywhere. I would try to pick this up around that price, we bought it during 4th of July Sale.

This might not be a high end laptop but it’s definitely worth it. It’s mid high. It will play just about everything on very high or ultra but ultra isn’t that much different than very high. This is a great entry level laptop for gaming and I highly recommend this. The high refresh rate in the screen is great and the only drawback is the 1080p but everything looks great on it despite that. On my pc I play on a 2k monitor, but you can always upscale your resolution. So if you’re on the fence, this has great performance and should keep you gaming for at the minimum of 3-4 years which is decent. I got mine open box and in perfect condition. My cons are the battery life. Always plug and play.

This device has seriously blown me away. After initially going through all the various updates, which took a while, this laptop has run so smoothly. I upgraded from an old MacBook Pro for my daily personal computing. Based on the price of the new MacBook Pros, and my desire to do some casual gaming and various PC-related activities, I opted for a "gaming" laptop. Also, the inability to upgrade or replace components in MacBooks is really offputting. Throughout my research, I kept going back to the Asus Zephyrus laptops. Their minimalist, sleek design and overall positive reviews kept me returning to their products. During the end of 2021 sales, I purchased a Legion 5 laptop and ended up returning it. I just didn't like the design and the trackpad location was offputting to me (coming from a MacBook). I decided to wait for the new Intel processors to be released as I hope to keep this laptop running for a while. I love its look and feel. Back in the day I had a black MacBook and can't help but be reminded of it. The trackpad is perfect. After some tweaking to the settings, it works just as my MacBook had. I also like the feel of the keys. I opted for the M16 because of Intel and the screen size. Yes, having a WQXGA display would have been nice, but honestly, this display looks amazing to me and uses less power. My only minor gripe is the status lights at the back of the laptop sometimes reflect off the display. It's a minor annoyance that I will somehow alleviate. Overall, after way too much research, I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend it to anyone looking for a covert gaming laptop to replace an old MacBook Pro.
